Dennis Prager Show - Larry Elder Explains the Recall Process in California Aired: 2021-07-29 Duration: 08:02 === Voter Recall Rules (03:03) === [00:00:00] Just going to electelder.com or just going to dennisprager.com where we have a link to it. [00:00:06] I don't understand something, and I'm sure most of my listeners do, but I don't, Larry Elder. [00:00:13] And that is, why does Gavin Newsom have unlimited expenditures allowed and you don't? [00:00:21] Well, it's a little complicated, but if you want to get on the ballot and have a 500-word statement about you, you have to agree to... [00:00:30] Only spend $9.7 million. [00:00:33] You cannot have that bio description and raise unlimited amounts of money if you want, but then nobody knows who you are. [00:00:40] John Cox, for example, has been able to spend unlimited amounts of money. [00:00:44] He's a very wealthy guy, and he did not sign that thing that would limit him to the $9.7 million. [00:00:48] But he's run for office before, and so people know who he is, and he didn't feel the need to do that. [00:00:54] But everybody else... [00:00:55] If they're going to know anything about you, you need to have that bio on the voting pamphlet. [00:01:00] So that's what the condition is, and the condition is if you do that, you're limited to a certain amount of money to spend. [00:01:05] I contemplated not signing it, and my staff, my expert campaign people said, no, Larry, you're not going to be able to raise more than that. [00:01:13] I said, I think I will. [00:01:14] And it looked like, Dennis, I am going to, but now I'm handicapped because of the decision that I made earlier. [00:01:23] The PACs that are working to recall Gavin Newsom. [00:01:28] That's correct. [00:01:29] And they can spend unlimited amounts of money. [00:01:31] And are you allowed to give the names of those PACs? [00:01:34] One is called Rescue California and one is called Recall Governor Gavin Newsom. [00:01:39] But those are the two major ones that were behind the signature gathering to get this guy off. [00:01:44] So let me just explain, if I may, Larry, for one second, to people. [00:01:49] There is a two-prong process here. [00:01:51] First, people get to vote. [00:01:53] Do you wish to recall the governor of California? [00:01:56] If you do, then you have a list of people to vote for. [00:02:00] But if you don't want to recall the governor, and that wins, a majority of people vote not to recall the governor. [00:02:08] Nobody even gets to vote for Larry Elder. [00:02:10] That's correct. [00:02:11] And it's a two-step process. [00:02:13] It's real simple. [00:02:14] On the ballot is the very question that you mentioned. [00:02:16] Do you want to recall Governor Gavin Newsom? [00:02:18] That will be counted, of course, later on. [00:02:20] 50% plus one has to vote to recall him. [00:02:22] Then the next question is, whom do you want to replace him? [00:02:25] Now, you could vote to recall him or not recall him or ignore that question and then vote for somebody to replace him. [00:02:32] So unless 50% plus one votes to recall him, it doesn't matter the number of votes you get to replace him. [00:02:39] I'm far ahead of my Republican rivals. [00:02:42] So I'm not worried that I'm going to be the one to get the greatest number of votes to replace him. [00:02:45] What I'm worried about is whether or not a 50% plus one will, in fact, vote to recall him. === 5% Increase in Teachers' Union Power (03:05) === [00:02:49] And right now, that is neck and neck. [00:02:52] A new poll just came out, 47% want him recalled, 50% do not, right in the margin of error. [00:02:57] And that's a 5% increase on the side that wants him recalled just over the last two weeks. [00:03:03] Well, the very fact that you mentioned the teachers' unions and the SEI, whatever it is, SE, what is it? [00:03:11] S-E-I-U Union. [00:03:12] Yeah, S-E-I Union, right. [00:03:14] Service Employees International Union. [00:03:16] I think they're the largest union in the country. [00:03:18] Right. [00:03:19] Well, we can thank John F. Kennedy for allowing government work. [00:03:23] Dennis, I'm happy you mentioned that, because I mentioned that to some people talking about the power of the public sector unions. [00:03:28] I said, you know one of your heroes, FDR, when he signed the National Labor Relations Board Act? [00:03:33] He said that there ought not be public sector unions because he thought it was a conflict of interest for a public employee to negotiate his own raise. [00:03:40] And the quid pro quo is if you work for government, you're going to make a little less money, but you're going to have greater job security. [00:03:46] Now they make more money and greater job security. [00:03:49] And can strike. [00:03:51] And can strike. [00:03:52] He thought it was unfair for the public sector people to put a gun to the head of taxpayers and withhold their work until and unless they got paid. [00:04:00] And again, you're right, Jack Kennedy is the one that signed the executive order to reverse that. [00:04:04] And about the teachers' union, here's one other thing, too. [00:04:07] There are 300,000 public sector teachers in California, 300,000. [00:04:12] It is estimated by virtually every expert I talk to, at minimum, 5% of them are utterly incompetent, should never have been teachers in the first place. [00:04:19] That's 15,000. [00:04:21] And by the way, they just got rid of the so-called C-BEST test that required a series of tests to prove minimal competency. [00:04:30] Now, if you just get a B in a college course, it could be anything. [00:04:34] It could be critical thinking. [00:04:35] You're qualified to become a public school teacher in California, and after two years, you get tenure. [00:04:40] Dennis, you and I have been in radio a long time. [00:04:42] We don't get ratings. [00:04:43] We get fired. [00:04:44] We don't have tenure. [00:04:45] Now, out of that 15,000 that are incompetent, in any given year, 2.2 out of the universe of 300,000 public school teachers are fired. [00:04:53] 2.2. [00:04:55] Now, I'm in Los Angeles. [00:04:56] You're in Los Angeles. [00:04:59] Imagine if 5% of them were incompetent. [00:05:02] By that I mean planning evidence, engaging in racial profiling, or using excessive force. [00:05:09] Can you imagine? [00:05:10] We wouldn't put up with that. [00:05:12] But we're putting up with 5% of bad public school teachers? [00:05:15] It is outrageous, Dennis. [00:05:17] And again, most black and brown people living in the inner city, they want school choice. [00:05:22] teachers adamantly opposed to it because the teachers are not automatic union members, and they don't therefore get the automatic dues. [00:05:28] That's why it's so important, my dear listeners, that Larry Elder have a national voice, obviously a statewide voice in the biggest state, because nobody in the politics at any rate is saying this. === Magic Wand Line Matters (02:24) === [00:05:42] Of course, we say it on radio, but now he has a bigger forum, or at least another forum. [00:05:47] Talking about your forum to speak, why don't you tweet out your magic wand line? [00:05:52] Probably? [00:05:53] Tweet out your magic wand line. [00:05:57] I will. [00:05:59] And I'll tell you now, I mean, you say things, you bring data that others don't, and you have a voice at the very least, at the very least through September, and hopefully well beyond that. [00:06:14] And you've got to use it because these will shake people up. [00:06:19] That magic wand question is unanswerable. [00:06:24] Anyone who thinks clearly. [00:06:27] Has to be persuaded by that powerful question. [00:06:31] Well, I appreciate it. [00:06:32] I appreciate it, Dennis. [00:06:33] No, no, listen, you know, Larry, the joy that it brings me to that, there's a very real chance you'll be the governor of California, Larry. [00:06:43] I mean, on the rare occasion that you have the moment to think about that, do you sort of get goosebumps? [00:06:52] It's almost overwhelming, Dennis. [00:06:54] I'm getting phone calls and inquiries out. [00:06:58] It's an international phenomenon if I can take this guy down. [00:07:01] And Dennis, people in the center are now increasingly being called racist. [00:07:06] It's no longer good enough just to be a good person. [00:07:08] If you're not an anti-racist, you're accused of being racist. [00:07:11] So this is going to strengthen people in the center who are sick and tired of these so-called progressives, pulling them in a direction that they don't like. [00:07:18] So this is going to be beneficial, I believe, for the entire country if I'm able to do this. [00:07:24] First of all, I think it'll herald the Messianic Age. [00:07:27] But beyond that, you know, I think in religious terms. [00:07:30] But I'm smiling when I say it. [00:07:33] But I want you to initiate a series of debates with the Ibram X. Kendi's and the Ta-Nehisi Coates of the country. [00:07:41] Wouldn't it be an honor to debate the governor of California? [00:07:44] Larry, the amount of good you can do gives me the chills. [00:07:49] Folks, again, electelder.com or the two PACs that are working to unseat Governor Newsom. [00:07:57] Also, it's all up at dennisprager.com. [00:08:00] God bless you, Larry. [00:08:01] Thank you so much, Dennis.
