Welcome to the Tuesday show of the Dennis Prager Show.
I immediately go, which is pretty rare, usually open up, with thoughts about the passing parade of life.
But I have an eminent thinker on, and I'm happy to begin with him.
Charles Murray, his official title is Hayek Emeritus Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
One of the most serious thinkers in our country, and he has a short book just out now, Facing Reality, Two Truths About Race in America.
Charles Murray, welcome back to the Dennis Prager Show.
Dennis, it's been too long.
Glad to be back.
That's true.
It's been a while.
Where are you right now, in Maryland?
I am in Burkittsville, Maryland, looking out at the pond behind my home.
Yep.
Is Burkittsville in rural Maryland or a suburb of Baltimore?
Believe me, it's not a suburb of anywhere.
We're out near the Appalachian Mountains.
So isn't it true to say, I felt this passing through Maryland, there really are two Maryland's?
Just as there are two Americas, yes.
the Maryland of Baltimore and Montgomery County which is right outside Washington are completely different from the rest of the state and the rest of the state is small cities small towns Tocqueville in America for fans of Alex Tocqueville yes You're writing about two truths facing America, about race in America, and I'm obviously getting to that.
I'm just curious, in light of what we just spoke about, Periodically fantasize, simply separating.
I have nothing in common with most people in Los Angeles.
Literally nothing.
We're homo sapiens and the similarities end there.
And I suspect you have a very similar feeling with many people in Baltimore.
Is it just a silly, and I fully accept that it might be, a silly thought that The half of this country that holds American values and the half that hate this country can simply separate?
That's a question which five years ago I would have said, oh, don't even talk that way.
I mean, we're so far from that.
And at this point, it's something that we all have to be thinking about more.
You know, I think theoretically it could happen.
Suppose it were recognized by the elites.
That actually, a whole lot of America doesn't need much government supervision.
That they can get along without a whole lot of regulation and laws and other things.
But the megalopolises, for better or worse, seem to have to have.
That it is possible to have two governing regimes in this country.
Theoretically, that's possible.
I don't see it happening.
But what you can do, I just want to encourage you, Dennis, you actually can separate yourself from the half you don't like.
I've done it.
And my wife and I and family live out in a place where it's indistinguishable in the way that the community functions from Newton, Iowa in the 1950s.
And it has all the virtues of that.
There were things wrong in the 1950s, but small town and small city America still has the same kind of life.
You can live that.
You don't have to live in Los Angeles.
Do you know when I felt this?
Because believe it or not, even though I live, it's nearer to Pasadena than L.A., but it doesn't matter.
I live in this area.
And from the first day of the lockdown, I comported myself exactly as I had the day before the lockdown.
I went without a mask.
I went anywhere I wanted.
I was with...
Numerous friends.
I am an observant Jew.
I had Shabbat dinner every Friday night with 15, 16 other friends.
There was not one Friday night missed.
And I lived a different life because I chose to.
So, while I'm not in Burkittsville, I lived as if I was.
Yeah, that's possible.
Yes, and I encouraged others to do so.
Back, or not back, but to your book now, Facing Reality, Two Truths About Race in America.
Okay, we're all ears.
Well, it all came about because of last summer.
And I listened to the unquestioning acceptance of the systemic racism narrative by everybody in the mainstream media.
And nobody would mention the unmentionables.
There are two of them.
When it comes to policing, why is it that you have problems with policing in low-income black communities that you don't have elsewhere?
Okay, there are some racist cops.
That's true.
It is also a statement of fact that the environment in which professional, well-trained, responsible police officers operate is much more dangerous in low-income black communities than it is in L.A.R. It simply is.
And that when police are operating in that kind of more dangerous environment, they appropriately use more means to establish their authority, and they appropriately call for backup quicker and a variety of other things.
Dennis, this does not mean that I'm excusing the egregious examples of police misbehavior that have been caught on video.
I'm saying these go viral.
And nobody sees the body camera footage of the tens of thousands of cops doing a wonderful job every day in the face of great difficulty and danger.
So they ought to have mentioned that.
They ought to have mentioned it's different in terms of cognitive ability.
Why don't we have enough senior-level black managers in the IT industry in Silicon Valley?
Well, there is a difference in mean test scores that is persistent and real and substantial.
Between blacks and whites and the reason this is important, no matter what you think of IQ or psychometrics or any of that, the reason it's important is those differences in test scores are predictive of differences in classroom performance and differences in job performance.
And so when people in industries that would love to have more senior black managers are trying to find them, the pipeline is not feeding into their employment interviews.
The number of people they need.
And that is an important explanation for the disparities and outcomes in the labor market.
In both cases, I am not trying to paint a picture of a blameless America.
I'm asking for realism, understanding the degree to which differences in groups, mean differences in groups, affect these social outcomes.
Alright, so the second is obviously controversial, and I have questions about it.
One obvious one is, why do African, black African immigrants, sub-Saharan, so we're not even talking about North African Arabs, sub-Saharan black immigrants in America do better than whites in America in terms of science, technology, engineering, and math degrees and income?
I don't think that's correct, Dennis.
Well, I just read it in queue, so I can't comment further.
But go ahead.
No, and I will, you know, we can't pull out the books on this.
I think the correct statement is that they have much better outcomes than a lot of native-born blacks.
Not that their outcomes are better than white Americans.
But let me make a broader point.
Suppose that your statement were true.
And that statement, and this is an essential part of the book, I don't want to talk about causes, and the reason I don't want to talk about causes, which people obsess about all the time, is because we need to start focusing on what is.
Suppose that your statement was just true.
That does not affect the reality of nationally representative samples of blacks and whites and the differences in test scores.
It's a very interesting observation, if it's true.
It'd be worth exploring for all sorts of other reasons.
It doesn't affect the state of affairs in June of 2021. The same thing goes for all the many explanations for the causes of crime.
These are important.
I'm glad people look at them, but that's all they look at to the exclusion of the reality of what is, for whatever reasons, in violent crime rates.
Okay, and the disparity between Asians and whites, does that account for anything in the society?
Oh, that's one of the more interesting topics.
The Asian advantage in test scores is now quite clear, and it is not insubstantial.
It's pretty good size, and where that really has an effect, Dennis, is at what we call the tails of the distribution, which means But you can have a difference in means that isn't very big.
And it has a much bigger effect when you say, well, what about the people in the 99th percentile?
All right, so hold that thought, please.

So, Senator Cruz, what did you think of that exchange?
Well, look, he didn't call her a lying dog-faced pony soldier.
So, you know, I guess that was good.
It actually was very revealing when she asks about what is it that's going to make Putin change.
He said, well, you know, if he doesn't have the full respect of the community of nations, what utter garbage.
Unlike Biden, Putin is not some terrifying little campus lefty who wants everyone in the faculty lounge to like him.
I mean, that's Biden's foreign policy.
He went over to Europe, and his approach to all the people of Europe is, like me, please, like me, please, and what will I do to make you like me, please?
Anything you want.
What would you like me to do?
I mean, we're America, for God's sakes.
And listen, the Putin meeting was a disaster, but it was a disaster before Biden walked in the room.
Why is that?
Because Putin had already won.
His number one geopolitical objective was to finish building the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
This is a massive natural gas pipeline that Putin is building between Russia and Germany.
And within weeks of Biden getting elected, Putin starts building the pipeline again.

They can't agree on whether or not they should curb inflation.

But the one thing that Congress has decided to agree on, and every single senator voted in favor of this, was to create a new federal holiday.
14 members of the House of Representatives deserve credit for voting against this.

Back with Charles Murray, Facing Reality, Two Truths About Race in America.
And one of them is, in Charles Murray's view, the issue of test scores and different racial groups or ethnic groups.
And I asked about the disparity between white and Asian test scores, and you were saying?
I was saying that Asians are really overrepresented statistically at the very high end.
So you have a lot of absolutely brilliant Asians.
That is even greater than the difference in means.
I was thinking over the break, Dennis, some things I just have to say because any time you're talking about test scores and IQ and race, it's really easy for people to confuse a difference in means With a difference that sorts people into different bins That's just not true.
As I constantly put it, millions of blacks are smarter than millions of whites.
We're talking about overlapping distributions.
It shouldn't be a big deal.
We have made it into a big deal because we have taken the differences that exist in the population at large, and we have, through public policy and university policy, translated those differences all the way through the steps of the educational process.
So the people who graduate with educational credentials have been chosen all the way through.
It's like evil genius.
So you have exactly the same disparities among black and white bachelor's degree holders and black and white master's degree holders as you do in the population at large.
That should not exist.
There should be no important difference between people holding the same educational credentials.
But there is.
And the reason for that?
It's affirmative action.
If you are black and you have a test score of X, you have a chance of getting into Harvard that would be zero if you were Asian or white.
That's just a fact.
Being black, or for that matter, being Latino, is factored into the admissions process.
So that you end up with SAT score differences of up to a couple of hundred points between Asians and blacks, for example, in the same university incoming class.
I have opposed affirmative action from the very beginning, and my argument was that it hurts blacks.
and I don't know why one would have goodwill toward minorities and still do this.
Among other things, it cheapens black achievement.
Because, I mean, I know, I'm sure you feel the same way.
I feel passionately the same way that you do.
Imagine what it's like.
By the way, I understand you have two white guys saying, oh, blacks should realize how much it's hurting them, and I know it sounds condescending.
It's not nearly as condescending as affirmative action.
As changing standards because of your color.
That's condescending.
Exactly.
So imagine the situation.
If you were a black in the 1940s, you had to be twice as good as the whites to get the job.
Because in that time, you faced real discrimination in the job market.
These days, you're a talented black, and you get hired.
Everybody in that company is saying, well, is this guy an affirmative action hire?
And you have to be twice as good as the white guys today.
Just to prove to everybody, no, you really belong there.
And I'll tell you another thing that's even sadder as far as I'm concerned.
You have very talented black kids that enter MIT or Harvard or Princeton or Yale.
And let's say they want to be engineers.
They'd make great engineers, and if they went to a good, solid state school, they'd graduate and be fine engineers.
But they are going into an MIT class where they aren't up against other kids that are...
Pretty smart.
They're up against some super smart kids, and they're at the bottom of the class, the black kids are.
They aren't stupid.
They're smart.
But they have been mismatched into a situation which leads to a lot higher dropout rates for talented blacks than these elite universities that should exist.
Now, I say that if I'm wrong about that, admissions officers and presidents of elite universities publish the data.
Prove me wrong.
That they do just fine in intellectually demanding courses and don't drop out in larger numbers.
They won't release those numbers.
It's an invitation to failure.
United Airlines announced that it's reserving half of its pilot places to women and minorities, people of color, I think is the term they used.
And all that will do, in my opinion, is, and I fly constantly, The next time, not next time, but five years from now, if I meet a female pilot, if I meet a female pilot now and I've had any number of them, all I thought was a talented woman became a pilot, fine.
It's not an issue.
I don't give a hoot.
But I'm not going to think I don't give a hoot five years from now.
Exactly right, and even now.
Even now, here's another commentary on what Affirmative Action has done to us.
If you are going to go out and choose a cardiologist, and the only information you are given about the alternative cardiologists in your area is their race, a rational, non-racist person will say, well, if that's the only thing I've got to go on, I'm choosing the Asian.
Should not be true.
You actually don't have that much information knowing they're Asian, but you have better than zero.
And we also go into that knowing that black medical students are admitted with far lower MCAT scores than the white nation students.
That is not just a recipe for, well, it generates racist responses.
So if you, I'm not usually big on policy solutions.
The effect of the U.S. government saying we will no longer give preference to any person because of race.
We will have no programs that incentivize the economy to treat people by grace.
Our goal is to be completely impartial, treating all Americans as individuals with equal rights and equal innate human dignity.
If the U.S. government, it's impossible to conceive of doing this, if that were to happen, Ninety percent of the racial polarization that's going on in this country would end.
So finally, I don't know if you even know if it's answerable.
I have wrestled with this question all of my life.
Given the utter damage affirmative action does, what motivates the people advocating for it?
Well, white guilt is a real thing.
White guilt among the elites especially.
It's a real thing.
And I think there are lots of people who are completely sincere in thinking that this is appropriate.
Are they sincere in saying, and there are no differences in ability just because you have 200 different points difference in SAT scores?
Do they really believe that?
Are they so dismissive of those kinds of things that involve their own children?
Here, I think there's a lot of condescension.

The realm of the absurd that we have entered is indescribable.
Speaking to my producer earlier today, he described it as evidence of a multiverse.
We live in different universes.
Listen to this as an example of the alternate universe.
A group of student climate activists is disbanding this week after arriving at the conclusion that they are too racist to continue carrying out their mission.
School Strike for Climate Auckland, obviously New Zealand, that's SS4C, Student Strike for Climate.
A New Zealand chapter affiliated with Greta Thunberg's climate justice movement among students decided its disbandment was, quote, well overdue, unquote, after getting what was apparently a very convincing woke education on how BIPOC, black, indigenous, and people of color, Communities are disproportionately affected by climate change.
It's a little hard to follow, I fully understand, but I will continue.
School Strike for Climate Auckland disbanding As they are self-diagnosed racist and need to decolonize.
In a lengthy post on the group's Facebook page, leaders explained that the organization, quote, has been a racist, white-dominated space that has avoided, ignored, and tokenized BIPOC voices and demands.
In addition, SS4C, Student Strike for Climate Auckland, Leaders say, quote, the urgent need to decolonize the organization has been put off for far too long.
Now, you may wonder, what does decolonize mean?
Decolonize means remove whites.
And their organization delayed paying financial reparations for the work Some in the New Zealand climate movement
are not putting SS4C Auckland on the back for their supposedly brave decision.
Disbanding is not taking accountability, it's quitting, said one fellow climate warrior.
Acknowledging you have a problem or made a mistake without taking a step towards resolving it is meaningless.
Well, the truth of the matter is, and it is something I have said for many years, the environmentalist movement is overwhelmingly rich white.
and That's exactly correct.
Because it harms poor non-whites.
Environmentalist movement is an almost entirely destructive movement.
I'm not talking about caring for the environment.
Every normal human being cares about the environment.
Environmentalists don't care about the environment.
They care about changing the economy and power structure of society.
That it's just the left using climate like the left uses blacks, and the left uses everything else to gain power, expand the power of government, and further ruin the society.
That is what we have in this particular instance.
Yep.
So they're disbanding.
I think this should be a model for...
For virtually all environmentalist movements, they have very few BIPOC in their midst.
You know why?
Because most blacks on the face of the earth actually would like to have electricity in their countries that are poor, in Africa mostly, and they will do that by carbon emissions.
The fight against carbon is the fight to keep blacks impoverished in Africa.
That's basically what the fight is about.
Spoiled brats in the West who have too much time on their hands and bored out of their minds and need a secular religion.
That is the description of environmentalism.

Sometime next year, the Supreme Court will decide whether to continue to find the right to abortion in the Constitution or give up on its deeply misguided half-century-long effort to do so.
The court will have before it the case of Dobbs v.
Jackson Women's Health Organization and the constitutionality of a 2018 Mississippi law that banned abortions after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.
The court will also be deciding on whether or not to uphold a poor decision made at the intellectual low ebb of its post-war era.
The court made law at Roe v.
Wade, and Justice Blackmun's opinion was simply awful in its reasoning.
In fact, I would argue the 1973 was the point of origin of the culture wars, because in Roe, the court seized territory reserved for the state legislatures.
Will the court let us have peace at the cost of admitting that its ambition to rule was the real spark for the fire's long burning?
Wisdom and the express language of the Constitution counsels it to quit the field.

They almost seem naively to say, well, we don't want to fight for America.

But I'm in a faith crisis because I've been raised a Mormon my whole life.
And our leaders are going left, and it's been extremely hard for me.
Can you give me an example?
Well, Elder Renman, you know, we have apostles that we believe are prophets.
He came out with a video saying masks were a sign of showing Christ-like love, even though I knew they didn't work.
Another apostle, Elder Uchtdorf, got caught donating to President Biden and also those two Democrat senators in Georgia.
And then they've just adopted the language of the left using terms like diversity, and they've always used all these social distancing, and all these terms that the left came up with through COVID. All right, let me address this.
This is a subject dear to my heart.
I think I mentioned this, but I'm not certain.
I know I mentioned one aspect.
I spoke this past weekend.
In St. George, Utah.
And about a thousand people, I believe, and the great majority were LDS, Latter-day Saints, Mormons.
And I am a big LDS fan, as I've said very often.
Just so many wonderful people that I've met who are members of the church, and I rely on my instincts in this matter.
I don't think I fool myself, and I have no reason to.
It's an impressive group of people for the most part.
In my talk, however, I said to them, the left has poisoned mainstream Protestantism.
It's poisoned mainstream Catholicism up through the papacy.
It's poisoned mainstream Judaism.
You have no guarantee it will not poison Mormonism or the LDS Church.
And there was actual applause to that.
There's a realization that that it could happen.
No one is immune from the toxicity of leftism.
Because you have to be very strong to resist wanting to be thought well of by the New York Times and all the mainstream media.
Not to march with the left.
Is to court loathing and mockery.
So this is a great test of all religious people.
Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Mormons.
It's a great test.
Do you fear God or Twitter more?
That's it in a nutshell.
My suspicion is most religious people fear Twitter and the Times more than they fear God.
There are very few truly religious people.
It's a sad realization I've come to.
There are many people who attend houses of worship.
Many people who actually love their religion.
But there are very few truly religious people.
And the essence of religiosity is fear of God.

It's biblical values versus left values.
It's really as simple as that.
Secular conservatives do not acknowledge that.

And that's okay.
My problem is with religious people who don't take God seriously.
They take God seriously as a butler, asking God for things.
I admit that I've asked God for things twice in my life.
And, I mean, for myself, I've prayed for others, but for myself I have twice.
It somewhat shakes me up to tell you that both were realized.
But my view of God is not at all what can He do for me.
But how can He approve of me?
I seek God's approval.
And I worry about our mainstream faiths.
Back in a moment. Back in a moment.
This discovery proves that he is coming back.

My parents didn't teach me that I was a victim.
And Uncle Tom is somebody who has sold out.
I will not pretend to be a victim in this country.

Well, you know, CNN recently come to our church and said, are you a Christian nationalist?
They love to throw that terminology around.
I said, if you mean by that, that I love the nation and I follow Jesus Christ, then absolutely.
But to them, those are two terms that are irreconcilable.
They can't understand how can you love God and love the nation.
My question is, how can you not love God and still not love the nation?
Because he's a God of nations.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
The God of Israel.
And I mean, the gospel, redemption is for all nations.
And so I think if you're going to be a believer, you ought to...
You ought to stand up because we do have a church issue.
Judgment doesn't begin at the White House.
Judgment begins at God's house.
And because God's house is not in order, because we're not humbling ourselves and repenting, I believe we're watching this horrible tidal wave of a tyrannical government take over this nation.

On kids wearing masks, it's a form of child abuse.

Telling young people that they should have an experimental vaccine or they can't go to college is a form of child abuse.
Telling young kids who have already had COVID and have the antibodies you still have to get an inoculation, the vaccination, is a form of child abuse.
Every religious leader should have said that.
Should have said we're opening up.
We are not allowing the secular authorities to tell us we cannot have services.
Safety is not the purpose of life.
There are higher purposes of life.
If you don't want to come to synagogue or church because you are afraid of getting COVID, don't come.
But if you are not afraid, do come.

Trump had suggested in 2018 that California start sweeping its forest floors of debris that often aids in the spread of wildfires.
But by August 2020, at the peak of the state's wildfire season, his suggestion became an ultimatum when he withheld wildlife financial aid on the basis of California's failure.
To clear its forests of dead trees, branches, and leaves.
Now California is putting Trump's plan into practice, as groups of 12-person crews set about a $500 million effort to thin the state's forest with controlled burns and sweeping the forest floor of pines, redwoods, and firs, according to a recent Bloomberg report.
I see again the forest fires are starting, Trump said at the 2020 rally in Pennsylvania.
They're starting again in California.
I said you've got to clean your floors, you've got to clean your forests.
There are many, many years of leaves and broken trees, and they're like so flammable, you touch them and it goes up.
Maybe we're just going to have to make them pay for it because they don't listen to us, he added.

Because there are so few pastors in America.
I'm meeting more and more that are like you, and I praise God.
But what led you to be the man of God you are today?
You know, I traveled for almost 11 years as an evangelist, 48 states, 15 countries.
And so I just began to see the demise.
I began to see the crumbling of our nation.
And so then, 15 years ago, in 2006, I came off the road full-time, started the church.
It was way before...
Any type of social media presence, you know, the thing just blew up.
And so I just began to see that pastors just aren't standing.
They just kind of have this willy-nilly idea, just kind of approach the pulpit, dearly beloved, welcome to be here.
And people were bored.
What I'm finding is men that hate church love our church.
And wives are super excited because we have hundreds and hundreds of men that are coming to our church like, we want a man to be our pastor.
We want this guy to stand up and say what needs to be said.
And so I think the lack of having a backbone drove me to want to have a ministry that stiffens people's backbones.
That make sense?
When men are men, women love it.
They think, where have you been?
And men love to see that.
And that's why churches have been feminized.
Look, this goes way back into the 19th century.
Mark Twain made fun of it, that all the old women love church, the church biddies.
But when you see a church full of men who love God, it has a whole different character.
And that makes the spirit of this age very uncomfortable.
It's at war with the spirit of the age, and it's at war with what you see in American newsrooms and in American media.
They are very uncomfortable by strong, godly men.
And that's what is missing in the church.

So the comment I wanted to make, I wanted to see if I could help the man understand.
Something that I think is very significant, and that is that the church is a global church and has to kind of live in a global world and make decisions based on kind of working with nations and national leaders.
We believe in being subject to Kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates.
It's one of our articles of faith.
And so I think the church makes decisions as a whole.
The leaders of the church, there are 15, they make decisions together in consensus that sometimes that benefit the church as a whole in various nations that they may not make individually Because most of them are very conservative.
I think it would take a while to explain that, but I... No, it doesn't take any time.

Everybody understands that.

And I think it's a practical thing on behalf of the Church, and I think in our history, you would find this has been true many times.
We've made decisions, our leaders have made decisions, As a whole, on behalf of the church, for the benefit of a global church, that they may not make individually.

Look, I'm probably one of the biggest, if not biggest, defenders of LDS, who's not a Mormon himself, in the mainstream media.
And Mormons know that.
Had the honor of conducting the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
This, I will say, I do believe is a mistake, changing the name of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, because it has the word Mormon in it, and they want everybody to know that it's LDS. However, the vast majority of humanity does not know what Latter-day Saints means, and they do know what Mormons mean.
But beside that, they actually dropped the name of the most famous choir on earth.
Why one would do that is a puzzle to me.
But anyway, I say that out of love.
I had the honor of conducting the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and they received me with tremendous warmth.
But there is an issue that transcends LDS, and that is for all Christians because of the New Testament saying that you should obey the That God has put the rulers of your society, I'm paraphrasing, and you should listen to them.
It raises such an obvious question that I don't think this was new to anybody, but what if the rulers are evil?
At what point does the admonition to obey the authorities, the magistrates, the kings, the princes, the presidents, prime ministers, At what point does it violate listening to God?
It's a real problem for anybody.
It's a problem for people who believe in God who are not even in any religion.
When do I disobey the authorities?
It's a problem for atheists.
There's no easy answer.
But if we do not entertain the possibility of defying the authorities, we're nothing.
We're truly, we're morally worthless.
There were Christians who defended their obedience to Hitler on the grounds that you obey the authorities of your day.
I don't think that there were Russian Orthodox who said, listen to Stalin.
It's an interesting question.
Partially because they were destroyed.
The Communists basically destroyed virtually every church in Russia.
They slaughtered Orthodox priests, whereas the Nazis did not slaughter almost any Protestant ministers or Catholic priests in Germany.
They did in Poland.
A lot of priests were rounded up and murdered by the Nazis.
Life is messy, but we do have to deal with the issue, if we're religious, of when does God come first and when does the secular one come in first.

I told you for decades a congressman named John Conyers, he died several years ago, black congressman from the Detroit area, would propose reparations.
Every time Congress opened, he introduced a resolution for reparations and got virtually no support.
People thought it was a joke.

The Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, presumably a prestigious legal journal, has just published a piece titled, Should We Protect Animals from Hate Speech?
To, needless to say, academics.
In the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield.

Alright?
What is their theory?
So listen, because it actually makes sense in their world.
I'll explain what their world is in a moment.
So they say, what if we...
Not what if.
Yeah, I guess.
What if we had...
What if we saw an article...
Or a speech that said that one race was superior to another race.
What would we do?
We would call it hate speech, correct?
And some societies ban hate speech.
So they say, well, why is it only limited to human beings?
Why isn't the argument that humans are superior to animals hate speech?
If one race of humans is superior to another race of humans, is hate speech.
Why isn't humans are superior to animals?
Hate speech.
What do you say to that, my friends?
There's no secular argument against that, as I have said all of my life.
The notion of human-animal Equality is the basis of my asking, and almost all of you who know anything about me know I've asked this all of my life, well preceding my radio career.
I've asked young people, high school age specifically, sometimes younger, sometimes older, if your dog and a stranger were drowning, which would you try to save first?
One-third all of my life this has been true.
This is true.
As of a year ago, this is true as of 35, 40 years ago.
One-third vote to save the stranger, one-third vote to save their dog, one-third do not know what they would do, or what is right to do.
Two-thirds would not save the stranger.
I love my dog, I don't love the stranger, and the supposition is essentially, Who's to say that a human is necessarily more valuable than an animal?
That is why people say, this is also new rhetorically, people say humans and other animals, right?
They always said until the 60s or 70s, humans and animals.
Not humans and other animals.
Humans were considered distinct from animals.
In fact, the human-animal distinction is one of the six or seven basic distinctions of the Judeo-Christian worldview.
Man and woman, good and evil, holy and profane, human and animal, human and God.
Basic distinctions.
And they are being obliterated.
All of them are being obliterated in the secular world in which we live.
There is no secular argument against these people.
If it's evil to say one race of humans is superior to another, it is evil to say one species is superior to another.
There is no secular argument against these professors.
By the way, I would not be surprised if Canada, which is in a race with New Zealand, Australia, and Britain, the United States is a drop behind in assinuity, will in fact declare that declaring human beings intrinsically more valuable than animals is a form of hate speech.
I would not be surprised if this idea, 99% of moronic ideas, Begin at the university.
The university is the center of foolish ideas in modern life.
These people are paid to come up with theories which gives their empty lives meaning.

Now, I do believe humans are more valuable than animals.
That doesn't mean we have the right to mistreat animals.
I've not eaten veal since I was 20 years old.
Because of the way veal is made, raised, the animal is raised.
I'm actually very concerned with gratuitous animal pain.
I think there should be more severe laws on the way animals are treated in slaughterhouses.
But all of that aside, I have no problem with eating animals.
I have a problem with mistreating animals.
But what is the secular argument against these people?

People never think about that.
This is a generalization some people do.
Overwhelmingly, it is not even raised as a topic.
The most important topic of the last century is ignored.
What are the consequences of the death of God?
Nietzsche addressed it.
Death of God, meaning God does not die, but the death of belief in God, it's shorthand.
People treat it as if it is a non-issue.
The issue.
When religion died in Europe, We've got Nazism, Fascism, and Communism.
Religion is dying in the United States.
You've got the 2020 chaos, the moral chaos, the riots, an intellectual class of idiots, true idiots.
Defund the police.
Is there a stupider doctrine that you have ever heard in your adult life?
Defund the police?
If you defund the police, more people die.
Do you understand?
That's what happens.
It is an announcement, I want more people killed.
There is no difference between defund the police and I want more dead innocent people.
You are a despicable idiot if you believe in defunding the police.
You idiots who vote for these idiots, you don't give a damn about people dying at the hands of criminals.
That is what it means.

I wrote it many years ago.

I'm reminded of this because somebody in my speech in Utah was a student at Columbia at the time and actually went to the speech.
And I spoke about it again, how I found God here at Columbia.
And Columbia banned it from being podcast while I did it.
They didn't even allow it to be recorded.
Not that they could stop it, but they could stop a video camera.
I don't know if I still have the audio.
Anyway, I found God at Columbia because I knew then in the 70s I was being taught nonsense.
And I kept wondering, why is this place of many fine minds so stupid?
Why am I being taught foolishness?
And the only time I ever felt I had an epiphany, it wasn't a theophany, God didn't appear to me, but I had this epiphany, this realization that sort of came down from heaven.
A verse of the Bible that I had said in...
My Jewish school, the yeshiva that I attended as a kid.
I had not said this phrase since, like, first grade.
And it came into my brain in Hebrew, and the verse was, Wisdom begins with fear of God.
And that was the moment I realized it's all about secularism.
No God, no wisdom.
That's it.

That's the way it is.
So you have two professors coming up with this idea, which, if you are secular, makes perfect sense.
If you can't say one race of humans is superior to another race of humans, why can you say humans are a superior species to any other species?
There is no secular answer to that.
None.

I read to you from the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies.
Their latest theory, which we'll catch on, there's no question, because it makes sense.
Secularism inevitably creates moral chaos.
It doesn't mean that there are no fine secular people.
There are many fine secular people.
But they're all living off the fumes, if you will.
You know what they say when your car has no more gas but you're running on fumes?
We're running on Judeo-Christian fumes.
And gradually the car is coming to a halt.
No more fumes.
Fumes last a couple of generations.
After all, it's something that's been developed over many generations.
That's right.
Incidentally, there are more studies, I'll bring this to your attention more this week, linking ivermectin to large reductions in COVID-19 deaths.
There's no doubt in my mind that the opposition to ivermectin on the part of the Medical establishment is based on nothing to do with science, nothing to do with saving lives.
I don't think that I'm interested in it.
It has to do with money from pharmaceutical companies.
Did you know that the last head, I just learned this yesterday, previous head of the FDA, Scott Gottlieb, is on the board of Pfizer?
Think that's important to know?
Did any of you know that?
I didn't know that.
Yeah, Scott Gottlieb is on the board of Pfizer.
The amount of money that the pharmaceutical companies give the NIH and CDC is, I think, quite high.
There's no money in ivermectin.
There's hundreds of billions of dollars.

This is the Ultimate Issues Hour.
The third hour every Tuesday is some great issue of life.
The absence of discussion with regard to the great issues of life is a major cause of our crisis in our society.
I could have named it, and I'm glad I didn't because it would sound pompous, but I could have named it the Wisdom Hour.
I mean, I would hope every hour on my show is a wisdom hour, but this ultimate issues is an issue of wisdom.
To have clarity about big issues matters.
Only people who have no clarity about big issues can, for example, advocate defunding police.
Your mind is truly...
Unclear.
If you believe in something so spectacularly destructive of life, you are an accessory to murder if you wish to defund the police.
So that's an example of an ultimate issue or the lack of wisdom, what it can lead to.
Today's topic has nothing to do with that.
That is nothing to do with defunding police.
Today's topic...
Is brought about in part because of my discussion earlier in my program today about the consequences of secularism, which has been the dominant theme of everything I have written, talked about in my life.
That's what people need to understand.
We are running on the fumes.
Not running.
We are riding.
On the fumes of Judeo-Christian values, and the fumes are dying, and in many cases dead.
So here's an example of a consequence of secularism that I believe has taken place, but you don't have to address it at all with regard to secularism.
I'm just telling you what made me think about the topic.
It's a topic I have talked about on the Happiness Hour, of all places.
Not the ultimate issues hour.
And that is, honor your father and mother.
It's one of the Ten Commandments.
Just a word about that that you will find, I think, quite interesting.
It's a point I make in my series, The Rational Bible, in discussing the Ten Commandments.
The first five commandments have to do There's one exception.
Honor your father and mother is in the first five.
That is how important honoring your father and mother is.
It is the gateway to honoring God.
That's a biggie.
But even if you're an atheist, this question still is applicable.
So here it is.
Well, I have two questions.
One, how important is it that people honor their parents?
And number two, do they do so less today than 50, let alone 100 years ago?
So I will address them while you call, 1-8 Prager, 776-877-243-7776.
Is it important?
It's unbelievably important.
This I know I have mentioned, but it's, again, very important to restate.
Interestingly, the Bible has no law to love your parents.
There's a law to love.
You're the stranger.
There's a law to love your neighbor, to love God, but not your parents.
The Bible's interest is not in whether you love your parents.
That's your business.
Or your therapist's business.
But it is not God's business.
God's business, the Bible's business, is whether you honor them.
And I remember something that I believe does not exist in any secular home.
There was a chair in the living room in my parents' house that was reserved for my father.
This probably sounds to young people today as, you've got to be kidding.
When did you grow up?
In 1537?
But it was.
It made perfect sense.
That's Dad's chair.
That's Dad's chair.
That's an example of honoring a parent.
That's Dad's chair.
For that matter, at the dining room table, there was Dad's chair and Mom's chair at the two ends of the table.
It was inconceivable that my brother or I, or a guest, would sit in the seat reserved for my mother or the seat reserved for my father.
That's not a little thing.
The issue has nothing to do with, do you like them?
Do you love them?
It's a bonus if you also love them.
And by the way, very few children go through childhood and adolescence, teenagehood, loving their parent every minute.
It's almost impossible.
Part of growing up is dealing with issues that you will have, emotional issues, even with the most wonderful parent.
By the way, even the most wonderful parent is a problem.
Because they present a model of perfection that you might feel is impossible for you to attain.
I mean, there's any...
It's an infinite number of reasons to resent a parent.
And you work through that.
Or you don't work through it.
But you still have to honor them.
So, of course, I always get the question.
It's a legitimate question.
What if your parent is just evil?
Now, there are two forms of evil.
There's evil that they have been awful to you, truly awful.
They've abused you, or God forbid, sexually abused you.
Or, they are just evil.
They didn't abuse you, but they were evil human beings.
The children of Nazi leaders had this issue, by the way.
Eichmann was the architect of the Holocaust.
And I've always been interested in his children.
One son continued to adore him.
And one son hated him for what he had done.
And had no more contact, changed his last name.
So, look, these are extreme examples, and as they say, what is it?
Bad examples make bad laws.
Something like that.
You can't use extreme examples to invalidate or validate any supposition.
It's not right.
I mean, there are speed limits, right?
But if somebody in your car has a heart attack and you observe the speed limit, you're an idiot.
You've got to get that person to a hospital.
But that doesn't mean we abolish speed limits because there are times when you have to, in fact, violate them.
Correct?
So we don't abolish honor your father and mother because there might be times where you just can't do it.
Most of us can do it, even if you don't love your parents.
I don't believe that this has survived the secular onslaught of absurdity in which we live.
The parents have not insisted on being honored.
The vast majority of parents, I believe, in the modern world have yearned to be loved by their children, but not honored by their children, which does their children no favor.
Back to the Ten Commandments, do you know the only creature on earth we're told to honor is our parent?
The verb does not appear with any other human.
That's how important that is for the sustaining of a good society.

Does that make sense?
When men are men, women love it.
They think, where have you been?
And men love to see that.
And that's why churches have been feminized.

You just didn't speak, I mean, you didn't speak certain ways to your parents.
The use of expletives that you might have with your peers, you would not put in a conversation with your parents.
I mean, it doesn't mean never, you know, we understand life, but you let them enter Through a door first.
I mean, there are so many little things.
You are my father.
You are my mother.

That there have to be ways of putting that into practice.

I was calling because I'm a little bit confused and perhaps you can help my misunderstanding or help alleviate an issue for me.
Or maybe these things are actually somewhat allied.
If the word honor in the commandment seems to suggest obey, most people stop there.
But it seems to me that if you're an honorable person, you hold others in high regard, you respect your elders, you don't lie, you don't cheat, you don't steal.
That also reflects honorably on your parents.
You're an honorable, honorable person.
Is there room enough in that commandment for that kind of an interpretation?
Yes, there is, in fact.
I'll answer in a number of ways.
First of all, one way to honor your parents is to lead an honorable life.
And by the way, the commandment would imply that the parents seek to be honorable.
So it was to make yourself worthy of honor.
Which is a big task.
Children should not expect parents to be saints in order to be honored.
But there's another...
Obey is not the actual term used in the Hebrew.
I'll tell you what the Hebrew term is and you'll find it fascinating.
The Hebrew word for honor is the same word.
Hebrew doesn't have vowels.
Hebrew has only consonants, and it has dots and lines that tell you how to pronounce the consonant.
So, for example, in English, if we had, let's see, I don't know, take the word night.
So, without vowels, it would be NT, and then we would have marks under the end.
To tell you how to pronounce night and not newt or neat.
And most Hebrew words have three letter roots.
The three letter root for the Hebrew word for honor also means heavy.
And you treat your parent with the heaviness Their role implies.
It's a very profound idea.
You don't take them lightly.
The opposite of heavy is light.
You don't treat your parents lightly.
You treat your parents with that heaviness.
As regards obey, there's actually another verse in the Bible where I get my wisdom and the Bible-free society has produced The morons of our universities.
In case you think we can do without the Bible, just check out the stuff taught at your secular schools.
Those of you arrogant enough to think that we don't need a Bible to give us insight into life.
But there is a law there, and it says, In another place in the Bible, in the Torah specifically, the first five books.
And it says, a man shall fear his mother and father.
Notice mother came first.
Mother and father is completely equal in the Bible.
Man shall fear his mother and father and keep my Sabbaths.
And it's always been a question, what does one have to do with the other?
Well, you...
While you are to obey your parents, I, God, come first.
So if they tell you, in this example, don't keep the Sabbath, I'm sorry, you still will have to keep the Sabbath, even if your parents say not to.
But you have to disobey them with respect.

So I'm a millennial, and I agree with you completely.
People don't honor their parents anymore.
I think the break in the chain, as it were, came with the boomers.
Both my parents are boomers, and so they didn't honor their parents.
And I see a lot of that with people in my generation, because now, I mean, you probably notice there's quite a few of us who are becoming conservative, and so we want to be more like our grandparents' generation, but when you kind of have that break in the chain, and you haven't seen it or observed it growing up, it's hard to reclaim that.
And so I guess for my part, you know, hearing you talk about these things is really helpful because, you know, I'm Catholic and try to know my Bible and what my religion tells me to do, but I always struggled with that honor thy father and mother because I did not have good parents, but I had great grandparents, and they more or less raised one of my brothers and I. And so I had a good example in them, and I always honored them.
But the part that I struggled with was how to honor parents who are not good parents.
Well, I hope today's hour will be helpful.
They may not be worthy of being honored, but there's no asterisk on the commandment.
So you honor them even if they are undeserving of it.
You don't have to admire them.
You don't have to love them.
Nothing.
You don't have to have any emotion toward them.
And I think you're pretty much there.
The very fact that you called and said what you did.
We need to honor our parents for our sake.

I didn't mention this earlier, but one of the reasons it is huge is that all cults and all totalitarian movements seek to undermine parental authority.
There's a huge issue today in our society where the woke find parental authority to be a joke.
And that's another danger sign.

Let's start with the beginning.
I think your book is misnamed.
I don't think the Rational Bible does it justice.
It should have been titled The Illuminated Bible.
Because I can't tell you the number of things that I read in the first book that just jumped out at me.
And one of those things is honoring your parents.
And I read that to my wife because she had a particularly difficult time with her mother.
And I don't think she was evil.
I just think she had an awful personality.
And my wife is one of six girls.
And it's funny that the other girls cannot relate to the way their mother treated my wife.
And at some point my wife finally said, I'm done trying to have a relationship.
And to be able to read what you wrote, I'm probably misquoting you, but it said something about perhaps honoring your parents.
It's staying away from them.
Perhaps honoring your parent is living on the other side of the country, and that really was helpful there.
I'm very touched by your call, and I'd like to explain what I did write that.
See, I don't want people to have no relation with the parents.
You can't honor a parent you have no contact with.
The epidemic in the United States of adult children not speaking to a parent is another function largely of a secular society that doesn't believe that you have commandments.
You do what you feel is right.
But it doesn't mean necessarily having a warm relationship.
And it might be helpful to you to be able to honor your parents if you move to the other side of the country.
That's correct.
I did write that.
That might make it easier for you, and then you call regularly, or you text, or you do something.
You wish them a happy birthday at the least.
You call periodically.
Father's Day, Mother's Day.
It means a lot to do that for you and for the parent.
Very few parents deserve no contact.
Very, very few.

Sometime next year, the Supreme Court will decide whether to continue to find the right to abortion in the Constitution or give up on its deeply misguided half-century-long effort to do so.
The court will have before it the case of Dobbs v.
Jackson Women's Health Organization and the constitutionality of a 2018 Mississippi law that banned abortions after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.
The court will also be deciding on whether or not to uphold a poor decision made at the intellectual low ebb of its post-war era.
The court made law at Roe v.
Wade, and Justice Blackmun's opinion was simply awful in its reasoning.
In fact, I would argue the 1973 was the point of origin of the culture wars, because in Roe, the court seized territory reserved for the state legislatures.
Will the court let us have peace at the cost of admitting that its ambition to rule was the real spark for the fire's long burning?

What she admitted is that she's basically more concerned about my daughter's feelings than...
Than trying to steer her in the right direction.
So I would assume your mother is more aligned with your daughter's values.

So it took the course of two conversations over two days to bring her on board, to have her reluctantly tell me that she'll reach out and tell her to call us, which she still hasn't done.

A year and a half ago.

Yeah, that's a whole other story.
Our son admits his saying it was okay for her to shun us was a mistake, but still hasn't reached out to his sister to ask her to talk to us, and still really hasn't even apologized to his mother, granted stepmother.
My wife is his stepmother.

Known as wokeism or leftism or progressivism, it is a cult.

For being an orphan, because he never had the opportunity to fail at fulfilling this commandment.
