Dennis Prager Show - A "serious" discussion on audio equipment - Open Lines Hour Aired: 2021-05-07 Duration: 02:38 === Electronics vs. Speakers (02:37) === [00:00:00] Uh-oh. [00:00:02] Ladies and gentlemen, I am preparing you in advance for an impassioned, angry debate with a caller. [00:00:13] The following call is wrong. [00:00:19] Trigger warning. [00:00:22] Roy, Valley Village, I presume California? [00:00:27] That's correct. [00:00:29] Hello. [00:00:30] Poor Roy. [00:00:32] All right, let the drummer go. [00:00:34] Yeah, go ahead. [00:00:37] Yes, Valley Village, California. [00:00:39] Not impassioned, but disagreeing. [00:00:41] No, no, I was kidding about it. [00:00:43] Go ahead. [00:00:45] A couple of weeks ago, you said that electronics in a sound system, an audio system, are more important, or most important, perhaps, than the loudspeakers. [00:00:56] I disagree. [00:00:59] It shows that even a kind, music-loving, bright man can be wrong. [00:01:06] And I'm referring to you. [00:01:11] Listen, I have... [00:01:13] My system is living proof, but I will give you just a simple... [00:01:19] You don't have to be an audiophile to understand this. [00:01:22] Garbage in, garbage out. [00:01:25] Basically all speakers today are good. [00:01:28] Some are great. [00:01:30] No question. [00:01:31] But it all depends. [00:01:35] I tell you a simple experiment. [00:01:38] A friend of mine has $15,000 speakers, which sounds like a fortune to most everybody listening now. [00:01:45] But for audiophiles, that is a bargain speaker. [00:01:51] $15,000 speakers. [00:01:52] Obviously, not each, but for the two. [00:01:57] And I put them in a system with $100,000 of electronics. [00:02:04] The speakers were of a different category. [00:02:10] One did not know how great they were. [00:02:13] And they rivaled speakers costing $45,000. [00:02:18] So I have lived this realization that electronics are more important than speakers. [00:02:26] What goes in is what matters. [00:02:30] You can't be better than the signal that goes in. [00:02:33] I don't disagree with that. [00:02:36] All right. [00:02:37] Well, anyway, listen, thank you.
