Dennis Prager Show - Why Dennis and Rush Never Had a Rivalry Aired: 2021-02-22 Duration: 05:20 === Happiness Lesson Shared (05:02) === [00:00:00] I am with you through this whole thing, folks. [00:00:05] That last call reminded me, the call prior to the one I'm speaking to now, that we should put up my article on Rush Limbaugh. [00:00:17] Got about a thousand responses at the Wall Street Journal. [00:00:20] That was a fascinating read for me. [00:00:25] You know, it's interesting. [00:00:26] Let me just mention this. [00:00:31] Almost identical years in radio, although he was syndicated nationally ten years before I was. [00:00:38] I was in L.A. for those ten years. [00:00:41] In 1998, I became nationally syndicated. [00:00:45] And we're on. [00:00:48] We were on. [00:00:50] May he rest in peace. [00:00:52] Same hours. [00:00:54] Now, of course, he had more stations than I, more listeners. [00:01:00] It had no impact on me. [00:01:03] I was happy that he was influencing people with conservative ideas. [00:01:10] Likewise, he felt no sense of competitiveness with me. [00:01:16] Same hours. [00:01:17] I have a lot of listeners, too. [00:01:20] And, in fact, a few weeks before he died, he read my column on his show. [00:01:27] We should get that and play it, actually. [00:01:32] And whenever we met, it was 100% warmth. [00:01:39] Plus, I got an extremely expensive cigar out of the meeting. [00:01:46] I have an upper limit to what I would spend on a cigar. [00:01:50] So I just thought you'd find that of interest. [00:01:58] Yeah. [00:01:59] I actually chose my hours from the very beginning and when I would broadcast, knowing that I was up against Rush, which is like up against Mount Everest, and I was fine with it. [00:02:16] There's a happiness lesson in that that I'd like to share with you. [00:02:22] If you compare yourself You compare your life to others. [00:02:29] It's a chapter in my book on happiness. [00:02:31] You will never be happy. [00:02:34] I go to work every day thanking God that I... Okay. [00:02:47] That I have the opportunity... [00:02:57] I'm not choking up. [00:02:59] It sounds like I'm choking up emotionally. [00:03:02] I am emotional about it, but I'm not choking up. [00:03:05] Anyway, I thank God that I have this opportunity. [00:03:10] That I am paid to tell a lot of people what I believe is an unbelievable gift. [00:03:21] I never sat down and thought, well, Rush Limbaugh has more stations. [00:03:28] It's not the way I think. [00:03:31] It's an incredibly self-destructive thing, because I'll give you an example. [00:03:36] Whenever the Forbes 400 comes out, you know the list of the 400 richest people? [00:03:43] And I always think about, you know, number 106. Now, if you're the 106th richest person in America or the world, is it Forbes 400, the world, or America? [00:03:58] There are two different lists. [00:03:59] So it doesn't matter. [00:04:00] America or the world. [00:04:02] If you're on that list, you're very, very wealthy. [00:04:06] But if your happiness comes from being wealthier than others, you will never be happy. [00:04:16] There's a big difference. [00:04:19] Between allowing wealth to contribute to your happiness and being happy because you are wealthier than others. [00:04:31] There is no comparison. [00:04:35] So I never walked around thinking, oh my god, Rush has more stations. [00:04:42] That's the way it is. [00:04:44] So, what, I don't have a lot of clout? === Batting .310 Excellence (00:32) === [00:04:49] Is the only way that you have clout is to be the number one in rankings? [00:04:57] Is life a contest? [00:05:01] Then nobody will ever be happy. [00:05:04] Baseball player bats.306. [00:05:07] That's awesome. [00:05:08] But the batting champ batted.310. [00:05:11] There you go. [00:05:13] Guy's in second place. [00:05:18] It's a very important lesson.
