Dennis Prager Show - What Does the Left Enjoy Other Than Power? Aired: 2021-01-26 Duration: 05:15 === Understanding the Gravity of Life (05:01) === [00:00:00] To just think gloom. [00:00:04] And I don't want to think just gloom. [00:00:08] So it's a tear to understand the gravity of a situation and yet retain one's joie de vivre, a joy of life. [00:00:20] My argument in this regard is one that you will, I don't know if I've ever actually stated. [00:00:29] But it does play a role in my life. [00:00:32] And that is, I don't want to give the bad guys the joy of getting me down. [00:00:47] It's a very serious consideration in my life. [00:00:51] Then they really win. [00:00:54] I'm sorry? [00:00:55] That's their whole strategy, said the living martyr. [00:01:01] Exactly. [00:01:01] Depress us, have us give up, have us just, you know, slink home and so on. [00:01:06] That is exactly right. [00:01:09] The left finds our love of life very depressing. [00:01:17] Tell me, what does the left enjoy other than power? [00:01:20] Can you name anything? [00:01:21] I'll give you some time. [00:01:24] I'll have some of my delicious homemade... [00:01:28] Iced coffee. [00:01:32] You know, my wife and I were talking about this. [00:01:36] It is a very interesting gap between them and us. [00:01:44] And I've often realized this. [00:01:46] It's very hard to understand people who do the opposite of you, and it's an irrational thing. [00:01:57] I don't understand people who ache to have power over me or over you. [00:02:03] I don't. [00:02:05] I have no desire to have power over anybody. [00:02:10] The only people I guess I've ever wanted power over was when my kids were young. [00:02:16] And then a parent should have power over their children because the children get very frazzled if the parent is not in charge. [00:02:26] They feel the parent is not in charge. [00:02:28] And God knows I was a pretty easygoing parent. [00:02:31] But still, it was important for them, for me, to be the authority. [00:02:39] But beyond that, I don't want it over anybody. [00:02:45] So it's a gap. [00:02:50] And this is the problem. [00:02:52] People who don't want... [00:02:55] To rob banks don't understand people who do want to rob banks, although that's not a perfect analogy because in a certain sense, I would say that wanting to rob a bank is more natural or more ubiquitous than wanting to have power over other people. [00:03:13] I mean, everybody has had to learn to be honest. [00:03:18] Robbing a bank is just a picturesque phrase for what I'm talking about. [00:03:25] Being dishonest. [00:03:27] People have to fight to be honest. [00:03:29] Some have to fight more than others, but still, almost everybody does. [00:03:34] It's natural. [00:03:34] Most of the kids in my class cheated on tests, for example. [00:03:39] So, we don't understand the people who want power over us. [00:03:44] We who want to be left alone to enjoy life don't understand the people who want to have power over us. [00:03:53] And the problem is that when you don't understand people, you don't imagine that's what is happening. [00:04:00] That's the naivete of the liberal. [00:04:06] Conservatives understand what's going on. [00:04:08] Liberals don't. [00:04:11] If liberals understood what was going on, the country would be in superb condition, because there are more liberals than leftists. [00:04:19] But they don't. [00:04:22] So I welcome you to the program. [00:04:24] My column, what is today? [00:04:26] Tuesday? [00:04:27] Yeah, so today's my column day. [00:04:30] And I'm happy to say it was picked up by Real Clear Politics. [00:04:34] The reason I'm happy about that is because then you're assured that you will have non-conservative readers. [00:04:42] Real Clear Politics is completely down the middle. [00:04:45] It only takes what it considers the most important left and right articles on any given day. === Posing Theories On Air (00:28) === [00:04:52] So I have a question that I pose in my column today, and boy, I wish you would send it out to your liberal relatives. [00:05:02] It's asked in a very, very honest way, actually. [00:05:07] And I pose this on the radio, where I work through a lot of my theories, because I get your reactions.
