Dennis Prager Show - Conservatives Have to Hide Their Beliefs from the Public Aired: 2021-01-23 Duration: 06:50 === People Approaching in Airports (06:01) === [00:00:00] The number of people in this country who have to hide what they believe is in the many tens of millions. [00:00:11] I try not to politicize the happiness hour, but politics impinges terribly, unfortunately. [00:00:22] Over the course of the last few years, during the time when life was normal and you could... [00:00:29] Travel normally. [00:00:31] And I had lectures just about every week and flew just about every week. [00:00:36] People would come over to me in airports. [00:00:39] There has not been a time in decades that I have not been approached at an airport by at least one person. [00:00:47] And in the last few years, something very ominous has taken place. [00:00:54] People will look around before they say anything to me. [00:00:58] And then, in a hushed voice, tell me that they are conservative or supported the president at the time, President Trump. [00:01:09] That Americans need to look around before they tell you their political preference is new in American history. [00:01:18] So that means, getting back to my theme, that a lot of you hide who you are much of your life. [00:01:27] Like at work. [00:01:31] That is not a happiness-inducing situation, is it? [00:01:38] So, in light of that, you need to find Kindred Spirits. [00:01:46] I told you, I think, I had this dream of starting KindredSpirits.com Anyway, I've told you all of my life with regard to the Happiness Hour that We should date for friends like we dated for a spouse. [00:02:07] But I think that people are self-conscious about doing so. [00:02:13] What's the matter? [00:02:13] You can't find a friend? [00:02:14] You have to go on the internet? [00:02:17] I don't know why not. [00:02:20] What's the difference where you find a friend? [00:02:22] The trick is to find them. [00:02:26] And to speak with them and to open up to them. [00:02:29] It's a health benefit, apparently. [00:02:34] Having friends is the equivalent of adding to life what not smoking cigarettes adds. [00:02:42] That's what I think I read a number of times. [00:02:47] Having a religious community or a religion, active in a religion, adds years to your life. [00:02:57] Apparently having a dog does. [00:03:01] I have all three. [00:03:03] I should live forever. [00:03:06] I do smoke cigars. [00:03:08] That, I believe, does add to my life because of the relaxation and the risk. [00:03:17] The risk versus relaxation ratio is pretty high in the direction of relaxation. [00:03:28] The happiness hour during this period of difficulty, to understate the case, is asking what you have worked out. [00:03:39] And have you taken my advice? [00:03:40] That's a call I'd really love to take. [00:03:42] Yeah, you know what? [00:03:43] I took your advice, Dennis. [00:03:44] Looked for kindred spirits and people I could actually open up to. [00:03:53] 1-8 Prager 776. 877-243-7776 is the number to reach me. [00:04:05] It is a challenging time. [00:04:08] You know, this is the way I look at it. [00:04:13] In the micro, in our personal lives, for most people, there are real challenges to happiness. [00:04:20] A child who is difficult A parent who is difficult, a troubled marriage, personal finances. [00:04:32] I mean, there are so many arenas, somebody's health in my life, including perhaps your own. [00:04:40] But we have, as Americans, generally been able to isolate the pain inducers, the happiness reducers. [00:04:53] Or challengers, if it might be a better word, to the micro, to those personal issues. [00:05:02] Yeah, well, is it a challenge to my happiness? [00:05:05] Or I'm not so happy these days because, and then you fill in, my child, my parent, my spouse, my marriage, my health, my income. [00:05:17] But it's my, it's my, it's been for most... [00:05:22] We have taken for granted that the country, the society, will not be a source of pain and misery. === An Amazing First (01:03) === [00:05:50] The American way of looking at things was, let the state leave you alone so that you can have your own problems. [00:06:05] That's basically the view. [00:06:08] Nobody guarantees happiness. [00:06:12] But that is no longer the case. [00:06:16] I certainly, speaking for myself, 98.43% of my unhappiness to the extent that I have it, and I do, and I combat it, and I act cheerful, is induced by what's happening in my society. [00:06:35] It's an amazing thing. [00:06:36] This is a first for most Americans that the state is impinging directly on their Happiness level.
