Dennis Prager Show - What Dennis Likes About Amy Coney Barrett... Aired: 2020-10-14 Duration: 05:02 === Why College Became a False God (04:09) === [00:00:02] It's fascinating, actually, to watch. [00:00:05] Most of the Democratic senators, as pointed out by Senator Cruz, were not even in the room when the last questioning was done. [00:00:13] done, I think it was Senator Whitehouse, unless she has Tourette's Syndrome and starts mumbling obscenities, obscenities, it's very hard to imagine why she would not be confirmed. [00:00:40] I'll tell you one of the things I like about her is that she didn't go to Yale or Harvard. [00:00:47] This country has a bunch of false gods that have substituted for The God who created the heavens and the earth. [00:01:00] College is a god. [00:01:02] Degrees are gods. [00:01:05] Prestigious colleges are gods. [00:01:07] Why would parents bribe to get their child into UCLA or USC? Forget the act of the bribery itself. [00:01:25] The belief that your child must go to one of these places, I don't believe it is only, oh, it'll be so good for my child. [00:01:38] Many parents feel that their parenthood is judged by the prestige level of the college that their child attends. [00:01:49] I can't think of an emptier. [00:01:52] Way to assess whether you were a good parent. [00:01:55] You could have produced a despicable human being who got into Yale. [00:01:59] You could have produced a remarkably wonderful kid who didn't even go to college. [00:02:08] But it's the report card on your parenting. [00:02:13] That's one of the reasons. [00:02:17] It's also interesting that she would be, I believe, is it correct, the sixth Catholic? [00:02:22] Out of nine judges? [00:02:24] I think that's the case. [00:02:27] It's pointed out on occasion. [00:02:31] It's an interesting question as to, is it just a coincidence? [00:02:36] Or is there a reason? [00:02:40] It may well be a coincidence. [00:02:45] But it's clearly a credit to the Catholic intellectual tradition. [00:02:52] If you do have six Catholics out of the nine, I personally couldn't care less. [00:02:58] It is of no interest to me in that regard because I want people with the judicial philosophy that their task is not to make law. [00:03:12] Senator Cruz, who was turning out to be truly a luminous senator, He has found his niche. [00:03:24] He will not be president of the United States. [00:03:27] I think he recognizes that. [00:03:30] And so he has decided to be as good a senator as he can, which is very important. [00:03:38] And he made the point that take school choice. [00:03:44] He said, I am for school choice. [00:03:47] He said that's the civil rights issue of this century. [00:03:56] And he said, "As much as I might like to see it ruled accordingly in the Supreme Court, that's not the venue." The arena where school choice should be enacted is not the Supreme Court. === Disastrous Democratic Governance (00:49) === [00:04:13] It is with us in the Senate, in Congress, that one black would vote for the Democrats given... [00:04:24] The disastrous governing of where blacks tend to live, all by Democrats for a half century, and the obscene opposition to school choice. [00:04:39] Oh, blacks don't get a chance. [00:04:41] They don't go to good schools. [00:04:42] That is the reason for the inferior rates of graduation and academic achievement among many blacks. [00:04:51] Yes, so here's a remedy. [00:04:54] Let them choose the school they want to go to. [00:04:57] Both are against that. [00:04:59] Why are you against that? [00:05:00] Because the teachers' unions are against that.
