Dennis Prager Show - The Importance of Friends Aired: 2020-07-13 Duration: 04:16 === The Impact on Us (02:17) === [00:00:00] So I, aside from those recommendations, I want to talk to you about the specifics of the threat to America, to this civilization, to the extent that a serious percentage of this society has contempt for its flag and new development as well. [00:00:26] There have always been some. [00:00:30] So I have two recommendations for you that help. [00:00:35] I mean, I have been affected. [00:00:39] I'm not the same happy-go-lucky guy that I was six months ago. [00:00:44] I'm not depressed. [00:00:46] I function fine. [00:00:48] I enjoy my life. [00:00:49] But there's no doubt in my mind that it has affected me. [00:00:55] How could it not affect me? [00:00:57] America's the last best hope on Earth, as Lincoln put it, and Lincoln statues are being torn down. [00:01:06] So, of course I'm affected. [00:01:08] So, aside from those recommendations that I made on a micro level, here are some other, well, they're both micro and macro, what I recommend to you. [00:01:20] First, what is of huge help to me, And I think would be to any of you, is to find kindred spirits. [00:01:32] As you know, I announced this from March. [00:01:37] There's virtually no Friday night that I do not have a Sabbath meal with friends. [00:01:43] My house, their house. [00:01:46] I have never allowed the fear of COVID to stop me. [00:01:52] From being with people I love. [00:01:58] The risk of dying from COVID if you are healthy is so minuscule that the price to be paid, I am not with people I want to be with, is absurd. === Preparing for Rainy Days (02:13) === [00:02:15] Just absurd. [00:02:17] That's my view. [00:02:22] For whom getting COVID is a serious threat to your life. [00:02:30] That's a separate issue. [00:02:31] We've always felt that way. [00:02:33] But the vast majority of you listening, that does not apply to. [00:02:41] So you should be getting together with people who bring you comfort. [00:02:47] People with whom you can speak openly. [00:02:51] about what you think about anything as you know I have said on this program all of the 20 years I've been broadcasting happiness hour people should date for friends as seriously as they dated for a spouse friends are critical and it's a good example of Preparing [00:03:22] for rainy days. [00:03:23] Life should consist of tremendous amount of preparing for rainy days. [00:03:30] Now you realize how important friends are. [00:03:33] Maybe you didn't realize it when things were so good and, you know, you were just concerned about your profession or even just your family. [00:03:43] Completely understandable to be preoccupied with career and family. [00:03:48] But it's not enough. [00:03:49] You should have been preoccupied with making friends. [00:03:53] You should have been preoccupied with having a religious life. [00:03:59] A great number of synagogues and churches are failing at this time. [00:04:07] They are failing to fight for this country and liberty, including religious liberty. [00:04:15] They are failing.
