Dennis Prager Show - Do We Have Vaccines Against Unhappiness?⎜The Dennis Prager Radio Show Aired: 2020-05-22 Duration: 07:37 === Suicides Are Up (03:40) === [00:00:00] Okay, everybody, so here's the story. [00:00:04] I'm going to try to do some good with you today. [00:00:07] I try to do every happiness hour some good, but this is more direct. [00:00:12] So I read to you a statistic from a doctor in Northern California. [00:00:20] He said he has seen more death by suicide in the last month. [00:00:29] than he has from the coronavirus. [00:00:34] Suicides are up. [00:00:37] Usage of drugs is up. [00:00:39] Usage of alcohol is up. [00:00:42] So give me a call if you're struggling with happiness or know somebody who is. [00:00:50] Maybe, and it's just maybe, I could say something that might be a little helpful. [00:00:55] I'm not sure I can. [00:00:58] Because I'm very angry on your behalf. [00:01:00] If you lost your job, that is not caused by the coronavirus. [00:01:07] It is caused by the lockdown. [00:01:09] The irrational, immoral lockdown. [00:01:16] I repeat, 1968-69, people about normally, though 100,000 Americans, That's 50 years ago, right? [00:01:29] 50 years ago. [00:01:30] 50 years ago, we have 330 million Americans. [00:01:36] So what did we have? [00:01:37] You want to take a look, what was the U.S. population in 1968? [00:01:42] I would guess 250. So, 100,000... [00:01:53] Anyway, I have to do the math. [00:01:54] But I would say so would be equivalent today to 140,000 Americans. [00:02:00] Nobody lost their jobs, their livelihood. [00:02:04] So I'm angry on your behalf if that happened to you. [00:02:08] But give me a call if you're struggling with happiness and why. [00:02:14] And do you know somebody who is and why? [00:02:20] Here's an interesting question that just occurred to me. [00:02:25] You know we vaccinate against certain viruses, correct? [00:02:31] 201 million? [00:02:32] What did I guess? [00:02:34] Wow, so it's a much higher percentage. [00:02:39] I'll figure that out. [00:02:40] Thank you. [00:02:40] 200 million? [00:02:42] So we have gone 130 more million Americans in 50 years. [00:02:48] Wow. [00:02:49] How do you like that? [00:02:51] And they all listen to the show. [00:02:54] Isn't that gratifying? [00:02:57] Okay. [00:02:59] So, it occurred to me, we have vaccinations against measles, chicken pox, and yellow fever, and what else? [00:03:13] What else is there vaccinations against? [00:03:15] Polio, obviously. [00:03:17] Okay. [00:03:18] Do we have vaccinations against unhappiness? [00:03:24] Here's a test, because this has tested everybody, obviously some far, far, far more than others. === Lockdown's Impact (02:15) === [00:03:35] My situation is quite easy compared to others, and I know that. [00:03:41] But I am bummed out for my country and worried about it. [00:03:45] So I've had to grapple. [00:03:49] I'm not just, you know... [00:03:53] What is it? [00:03:54] Strolling along, singing a song. [00:03:58] I'm not. [00:04:00] And I share that with you. [00:04:02] I'm angry. [00:04:04] I'm sad for my beloved country. [00:04:10] Not because of the virus, because of the lockdown. [00:04:13] So I am not immune to being affected. [00:04:20] But some people are really being affected. [00:04:22] But I did have the question of the vaccination. [00:04:25] Are some people... [00:04:26] I mean, I think the answer is obvious. [00:04:29] But I'll just pose it. [00:04:31] Are some people better equipped for a difficult situation than others? [00:04:39] Of course the answer is yes. [00:04:42] It's like, who... [00:04:44] Who dies from the coronavirus? [00:04:46] Somebody with an underlying pre-existing condition. [00:04:50] Who gets suicidal? [00:04:54] And this is an open question. [00:04:56] I'm posing it as if it's rhetorical, but it's an open question. [00:05:00] Who is suicidal during this? [00:05:03] Is it somebody who commits suicide or who becomes addicted? [00:05:13] Or re-addicted. [00:05:15] Is it a surprise to those who know this person? [00:05:21] Wow, that's the last person I would expect to have such a reaction. === Emotional Shock Absorbers (02:11) === [00:05:26] In other words, is there an underlying emotional, psychological happiness condition in people getting depressed and even suicidal now? [00:05:42] Just as there is an underlying condition, pre-existing condition for those who die from the coronavirus or get very sick from it. [00:05:54] So, you see, I believe in vaccinations. [00:05:57] I'm not talking about physical, in fact, I'm talking about emotional vaccinations. [00:06:03] What was the term that Dr. Marmer used? [00:06:06] Shock absorbers. [00:06:07] See, I believe that you develop shock absorbers. [00:06:10] When things are going well, so that you have your shock absorbers when things aren't going well. [00:06:18] That's one of the reasons I have a happiness hour, is to protect you, or enable you to protect yourself. [00:06:26] Why is one of my mottos, if nothing's horrific, life is terrific? [00:06:30] Because I recognize that the horrific is going to happen. [00:06:36] It's just the nature of life. [00:06:40] Avoids a whole lifetime of anything horrific happening. [00:06:44] A very, very tiny percentage of humanity. [00:06:51] Right? [00:06:54] You know anybody who's avoided it? [00:06:58] Mr. Martyr? [00:07:00] I never called him that. [00:07:01] Mr. Martyr. [00:07:02] I like that. [00:07:04] Living is his first name. [00:07:08] So you don't know anybody. [00:07:10] I'm serious. [00:07:11] A single person in your whole extended life or extended contact that has avoided something awful. [00:07:21] In their whole life? [00:07:23] Yeah, in their whole life. [00:07:24] It doesn't happen. [00:07:27] So you have to take vaccines. [00:07:29] You have to work on it in advance when things are good. [00:07:33] It's like a savings account. [00:07:37] All right.
