Dennis Prager Show - A Gaping Left/Right Divide on Covid-19⎜The Dennis Prager Radio Show Aired: 2020-04-27 Duration: 06:49 === Increased Addicts And Suicides (03:07) === [00:00:00] Bill Bennett is one of my favorite people. [00:00:05] And it's not surprising to me that we're aligned on this issue. [00:00:10] And I asked him, it's really a moment of clarity that conservatives have so aligned themselves against the panic. [00:00:18] And you mention, and nobody knows this better than you, and I know I've mentioned, I mean, what about all the suicides? [00:00:25] What about all the increased addicts? [00:00:29] Tell us about that, because this is really your field. [00:00:32] Yeah, we don't have the numbers yet, but one can imagine. [00:00:36] I'll start with one number. [00:00:38] A number of world health organizations, including the WHO, but others as well, since their credibility has been heard a lot, have suggested at least 200,000 to 300,000 children will die. [00:00:51] Because they're not getting their measles or polio vaccinations, which still have to belong in the world in which we live. [00:00:57] And why aren't they getting them? [00:01:00] Because you can't get up close to people. [00:01:03] Everything has to make way for COVID. And then think about all the people. [00:01:08] We call it elective surgery. [00:01:10] But elective surgery can be very serious. [00:01:14] It can be a heart stent, you know? [00:01:16] And then people are not getting chemotherapy. [00:01:20] All sorts of people. [00:01:21] And then the hospitals are below capacity, because this was all overstated. [00:01:28] But, you know, I was the drug czar, apart from the Secretary of Education. [00:01:31] And I'm telling you the worst possible thing. [00:01:33] Someone has a bad drug habit. [00:01:36] Just to tell them, stay inside, stay away from friends, isolate themselves. [00:01:41] So God knows what's going on there. [00:01:44] But the economy. [00:01:45] And, you know, I keep telling our conservative friends, stop saying money versus life. [00:01:51] Well, we don't. [00:01:52] They say it. [00:01:54] That's what they characterize us. [00:01:58] Let me correct what I said. [00:02:00] I mean, I think the very nasty piece by Joe that was hurtful to me just because I didn't expect it. [00:02:06] I thought I'd get at least a heads up from a friend. [00:02:08] Rich Lowry's was also unpleasant. [00:02:11] I think unfair. [00:02:12] But the big guys, the big thinkers, Rush, you, Mark Levin, have all been very, very clear on this. [00:02:21] Victor Davis Hanson, George Gilder, Bill Bennett. [00:02:26] I mean, that's what I mean. [00:02:28] I mean, you go through the list of what we would call Heather McDonald. [00:02:33] I mean, it's been unbelievable. [00:02:36] It's almost a 1,000 batting average. [00:02:39] And how many people is that overall? [00:02:42] Come on, how many? [00:02:44] You mean not a lot. [00:02:46] Yeah, right. [00:02:48] Because I've been asked to join a couple of committees, you know, leading people, blah, blah, blah, who are against the conventional wisdom. === Governor Cuomo's Earlier Segment (03:56) === [00:02:56] Who are these people? [00:02:58] Anyway, that's okay. [00:03:00] That's okay. [00:03:01] The American people are out there, and I want the president to be more unambiguous about his support for them. [00:03:09] And, you know, you expect an epidemiologist who's advising you to act like an epidemiologist. [00:03:16] Well, this could get worse. [00:03:20] It could be two million people. [00:03:22] Well, you know what I learned in philosophy in getting my degree, Dennis? [00:03:26] We had a German professor who said, one student said, could be. [00:03:30] He said, could be. [00:03:31] Anything could be that's not logically contradictory. [00:03:34] Anything could be, but is it likely to be? [00:03:38] So 2.2 million people predicted by the Imperial College of London, as you said earlier, in the earlier segment. [00:03:45] It's all over the news. [00:03:47] People swallowed it whole. [00:03:49] New York gets this large number of cases. [00:03:52] And there you go. [00:03:54] We're off to the races. [00:03:56] I'm going to give you a line from the Talmud, because you love this stuff, as I do. [00:04:01] Yep. [00:04:02] So you will love this. [00:04:03] This actually guided me from the beginning. [00:04:07] In exactly what you just said, to give you another ancient source. [00:04:13] I rarely do this because I have no desire to show off my knowledge of Hebrew, but it's such a famous phrase for those who studied, as I did, in yeshiva. [00:04:23] If you have certain, and you have maybe, certain takes precedence. [00:04:34] And that is a... [00:04:35] There are a series of guiding principles in Talmudic debate. [00:04:39] That is one of them. [00:04:41] So the certitude is all of these suicides, all of these terrible things happening, the possibility is this great number of deaths. [00:04:53] That's right. [00:04:54] And think about the work that is lost and the self-respect that is lost and all those other things. [00:05:01] We have a piece out. [00:05:02] Seth Leibs and I have been writing. [00:05:04] You know, Sam. [00:05:05] Of course. [00:05:06] He's your colleague on the great show. [00:05:09] Yeah, in Phoenix, he's great. [00:05:12] He's younger. [00:05:13] But one of the other features, I don't know if this makes sense, of the people you and I have mentioned, is we're older. [00:05:21] We're older. [00:05:22] Actually, most of us, I don't want to say your age on the radio. [00:05:26] Goodness knows. [00:05:26] I don't even know what it is. [00:05:28] But I'll bet you you're pretty close to the target zone. [00:05:32] For the Wuhan virus. [00:05:33] Well, theoretically, anybody over 65 is in the target zone. [00:05:39] No, that's what's amazing. [00:05:41] Conservatives who are in the target zone are saying, okay, I may die, but I don't want my country to die. [00:05:49] That's right. [00:05:52] That's exactly right. [00:05:54] So anyway, let me cite one other thing. [00:05:56] You're probably aware of it. [00:05:58] Seth and I just wrote a piece to me out later today, probably on Fox. [00:06:01] News.com about Ron DeSantis in Florida. [00:06:05] Yes. [00:06:07] Here's a state with 2 million more people than New York. [00:06:11] More old people than New York. [00:06:13] 5% of the deaths from the Wuhan virus is New York. [00:06:19] If you're smart and you do the right thing, and you don't just get on TV and complain, Governor Cuomo, you remember, I was thinking of this in your earlier segment when you were talking about the New Yorkization. [00:06:31] He said, we're the canary in the coal mine. [00:06:34] Oh, yeah, I forgot that. [00:06:36] That's right. [00:06:36] Yeah, it's coming your way. [00:06:37] Well, it really didn't. [00:06:39] How do people get... [00:06:41] Do you have a mailing list? [00:06:42] Before we go, I just want people to know how to get your stuff. [00:06:47] Yeah, BillBennett.com. [00:06:48] That's easy.
