Dennis Prager Show - In Crisis' We Discover What Matters Aired: 2020-04-03 Duration: 06:22 === The Importance Of Friends (05:42) === [00:00:00] You don't have anybody to talk to. [00:00:02] Then this crisis will have been valuable. [00:00:06] Maybe it has awakened some people to another one of my most constant themes. [00:00:11] You need friends. [00:00:13] Remember, date for friends like you dated for a spouse? [00:00:16] How often I've said that. [00:00:21] And by the way, isn't it interesting, the thing that so many Americans are most preoccupied with? [00:00:29] Is the one that least matters now? [00:00:31] Professional success. [00:00:34] What? [00:00:35] Get into a good college. [00:00:36] Get into a good graduate school. [00:00:38] Get a good job. [00:00:40] Get a good job. [00:00:42] Right? [00:00:44] That's like all of life, and that's the least important. [00:00:47] Now the most important is family, friends, hobbies, religion. [00:00:54] Right? [00:00:55] Turns out that... [00:00:58] Having gone to Yale doesn't really matter, does it? [00:01:04] It means, as they say in Yiddish, bupkis. [00:01:11] Yes, indeed. [00:01:14] All right, y'all. [00:01:17] Well, that's a sweet thing. [00:01:19] Elaine in Prescott, Arizona is doing something very nice. [00:01:22] Hello, Elaine. [00:01:24] Hi there. [00:01:25] Hi there. [00:01:29] So, yeah, after hearing about the people that are in our local nursing homes and assisted livings and whatever, we decided that, you know, I have a lot of card paper here, and I thought maybe share a little joy. [00:01:44] So my husband and I sat down, and for one of the groups, there were 80 residents. [00:01:50] And I just sent two little cards, one that says, we're sending you a virtual hug and hope it brings a smile. [00:01:57] Because your friends and family can't visit for a while. [00:02:02] So what do you do then? [00:02:04] Do you mail it? [00:02:05] Do you drop it off? [00:02:06] What do you do? [00:02:07] No, we're going to drop it off. [00:02:10] Oh, that's right. [00:02:12] So they're physical cards. [00:02:15] Yes. [00:02:16] That's a beautiful thing. [00:02:19] That's great. [00:02:20] It's like the Prager Force kids calling up folks, anyone who wants a call, right? [00:02:28] Do we generally recommend that they be on the older side, or it doesn't matter? [00:02:32] It's irrelevant. [00:02:32] You just want to hear from a young Prager Forest person. [00:02:37] You're going to get a call. [00:02:39] A lot of people are alone now, and my heart does go out to you. [00:02:44] I want you to also not mope. [00:02:46] All these rules apply. [00:02:49] Actually, it's better to be alone than stuck with someone you don't like. [00:02:54] Between the two. [00:02:56] There's no question about that. [00:02:58] So there's always the possibility that things could be worse. [00:03:04] As dark as that sounds. [00:03:07] Okay, everybody. [00:03:08] Let's go to Kirk in New Rochelle. [00:03:11] Wow, you guys got hit. [00:03:13] Hi, Kirk in New Rochelle. [00:03:15] Hello. [00:03:16] It's always good to talk to you. [00:03:18] We were hit, but it's getting better. [00:03:21] Patient zero recovered. [00:03:24] Things are looking on the bright side. [00:03:26] So I find it's important, especially as a young person, not to completely degenerate in a time like this. [00:03:34] So I made it a point to maintain a routine, and a big part of my routine, which I miss a lot now, is I go to orchestra concerts every week, and obviously they have to stop. [00:03:52] You know, large crowds and all. [00:03:54] And so my little stereo system is getting a good workout lately. [00:04:01] You're a man after my own heart. [00:04:04] Music is a gift of God. [00:04:06] In fact, I think music is an argument for God. [00:04:10] That's a good use. [00:04:12] That's true. [00:04:13] Why did New Rochelle get so hit? [00:04:14] Do you know the story there? [00:04:21] No rhyme or reason on why. [00:04:23] Oh, that's right. [00:04:24] There was a person who, yes, who started. [00:04:26] That's right. [00:04:27] Yes. [00:04:29] All right. [00:04:30] Another young person, Matthew in Vandalia, Missouri. [00:04:34] Hi. [00:04:36] Hello, Dennis. [00:04:37] How's it going? [00:04:38] Well, for me, good. [00:04:39] For my country, it's troubled. [00:04:42] Yeah, I feel that one. [00:04:44] Well, I'm calling in response to a question you asked earlier, and, you know, what do we... [00:04:48] What do we do to stay happy amidst all this crisis stuff going on? [00:04:53] I had a Sunday school lesson the last week before church was canceled when all this first happened. [00:04:59] And that Sunday school lesson was God is always in control. [00:05:03] And I find myself thinking about that more than ever nowadays. [00:05:08] And that's helpful. [00:05:11] Extremely helpful, you know. [00:05:12] I would imagine it would be. [00:05:14] Are you right now with your parents? [00:05:18] I am not. [00:05:18] I live alone right now on a farmhouse. [00:05:21] I help take care of cattle and row crop and all that good stuff. === Fertilizing with Hydricks (00:54) === [00:05:27] So, there is a family in the main house? [00:05:32] Yeah, the Kerses. [00:05:35] Right. [00:05:36] Do you see them? [00:05:38] Oh, yeah, every day. [00:05:40] Oh, so you have human interaction. [00:05:43] Oh, I do, yeah. [00:05:45] Okay. [00:05:46] So are you still working all day on the farm? [00:05:50] Well, yeah, mostly. [00:05:51] I'm working right now, actually, but I was able to get a call in. [00:05:55] So what exactly are you doing? [00:05:58] Well, earlier today I was hauling in hydricks for my boss to work in the field with to fertilize, and right now I'm heading back home with another fertilizer batch. [00:06:11] I love that. [00:06:12] He's listening to the show. [00:06:14] While transporting fertilizer. [00:06:17] I have to say, people who don't like me think I transport fertilizer for a living.
