Dennis Prager Show - We Have Missed the Boat on Education Aired: 2020-02-21 Duration: 01:49 === Kids Choose Their Dog (01:48) === [00:00:00] I was at the Nixon Library many years ago. [00:00:04] I gave a speech, and I mentioned in context, I don't remember what the context was, but a question I've been asking all of my life to high school and college students. [00:00:16] If your dog and a stranger were drowning, which would you say first? [00:00:20] And one-third, my whole life, one-third vote for the dog, one-third for the stranger, one-third. [00:00:28] Don't know what they would do. [00:00:30] The question is too vexing. [00:00:33] And so two-thirds wouldn't save the stranger, say they wouldn't save the stranger first. [00:00:39] And a teacher with some kids from a Christian school was at my speech. [00:00:47] And he posed the question to his kids, and most of them voted for the dog. [00:00:52] I don't know, they were like 11 years old. [00:00:54] They were quite young. [00:00:57] But he said to me, it's very disturbing. [00:01:00] I don't think we're teaching correctly. [00:01:03] I did this at an Orthodox Jewish school in Miami. [00:01:06] Public question. [00:01:07] And a lot of kids said they'd save their dog. [00:01:12] And the principal said the same thing. [00:01:15] The rabbi said, we're missing the boat. [00:01:17] And that's exactly right. [00:01:21] We have missed the boat in education for at least since... [00:01:26] Since World War II, we have not taught kids correctly, in many cases, what Judaism is, what Christianity is, and what America is. [00:01:36] So it's no wonder we have so many problems. [00:01:41] We don't teach the good stuff right. [00:01:46] Happiness Hour coming up. [00:01:48] I'm Dennis Prager.
