Dennis Prager Show - The Billy Bush Tape: Private vs. Public Behavior Aired: 2020-02-11 Duration: 05:54 === Private Speech vs. Public Actions (02:58) === [00:00:00] Explain it in my piece. [00:00:02] You really should read it. [00:00:05] Why private speech doesn't tell us about a person's character. [00:00:09] That is the title of the piece. [00:00:10] You can't get more direct than that, can you? [00:00:12] That's the title of the piece. [00:00:15] There are, on Town Hall... [00:00:18] Friendly Atheist. [00:00:20] Yeah, Friendly Atheist. [00:00:21] Yeah, good. [00:00:23] So, thus far, there are 288 comments on the piece. [00:00:28] And I will read you a few of them. [00:00:32] So here is the way to understand it. [00:00:35] There are four categories. [00:00:40] Private speech, private action, public speech, public action. [00:00:52] Right? [00:00:53] There's a division between public and private, but not with regard to actions. [00:00:59] Private actions are as important as public actions. [00:01:04] If you beat your wife in private, that's evil. [00:01:10] Okay? [00:01:12] So, with regard to action, there is no difference. [00:01:20] Between public and private. [00:01:22] Evil is evil. [00:01:23] You murder somebody, most people don't murder people in public. [00:01:27] They murder people in private. [00:01:31] Murder is the worst thing you can do, so obviously there's no difference. [00:01:35] But in speech, and I give example after example, in speech, that's a difference. [00:01:43] So I give an example. [00:01:46] I give an example of a woman Who tells her, her husband or her best friend, you know, I've been taking care of my mother now for five years. [00:01:57] She has Alzheimer's. [00:02:00] And I tell you the truth, there are times when I wish she would die. [00:02:07] It's a perfect example of my point. [00:02:10] Does this tell you about the character of this woman? [00:02:14] Actually, believe it or not, I think it does, in her favor. [00:02:21] I will explain that in a moment. [00:02:24] Do you know where I got this from? [00:02:26] This is the oldest phone call to my show that I recall, and I have been talking about it. [00:02:34] It entered our film. [00:02:35] There's a whole scene about it, and for goodness sake, it's a free video. [00:02:40] It's how I met Alan Estrin, my producer, The Living Martyr, and you will love it. === For Goodness Sake Confession (03:11) === [00:02:47] Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are in the film. [00:02:50] It's called For Goodness Sake, and it's on the internet. [00:02:54] It's free. [00:02:57] And you'll see me... [00:02:58] How long ago? [00:02:59] 25 years ago? [00:03:01] You will see me from 25 years ago. [00:03:05] It's not 25? [00:03:07] Well, wait. [00:03:08] 20 years ago... [00:03:09] Well, no. [00:03:12] Yes, I am right. [00:03:13] Mid-90s. [00:03:16] That's astonishing to think. [00:03:18] 25 years ago. [00:03:19] See, you'll see me 25 years ago. [00:03:21] You get a kick out of it. [00:03:24] Anyway, it's called, for goodness sake. [00:03:26] So in it, we have this scene. [00:03:29] What scene am I referring to again? [00:03:31] The scene in which the guy confesses that he... [00:03:35] Oh, yeah. [00:03:35] So that's right. [00:03:37] So the guy... [00:03:38] I'm in each scene. [00:03:39] It's a funny thing. [00:03:40] So I'm in each scene. [00:03:41] In this scene... [00:03:43] We're in a nursing home. [00:03:45] Guy takes care of his mother constantly, and then he whispers to me, he says, you know, I gotta tell you. [00:03:53] There are some times I wish she would die already. [00:03:57] It's very, very difficult. [00:04:01] This happened because of a phone call to my show. [00:04:05] Dennis, I'm a terrible son. [00:04:07] I so remember it. [00:04:09] A guy about between 30 and 40 years old. [00:04:13] Dennis, I'm a terrible son. [00:04:16] I'm the sole financial and physical support of my mother, who's living with us. [00:04:25] And I tell you, sometimes I wish she would finally die of her illnesses. [00:04:34] And I don't know what to do. [00:04:36] I'm just wracked with guilt. [00:04:39] And I said, I just want you to know I think you're a wonderful son. [00:04:44] And I'll never forget his reaction. [00:04:46] He thought I was mocking him. [00:04:49] He so didn't believe what I said. [00:04:53] And I said, no, no, no. [00:04:55] You're a wonderful son. [00:04:57] He said, didn't you hear what I said, Dennis? [00:04:59] I said, that's why you're a wonderful son. [00:05:03] Despite how you feel, you're taking care of your mother. [00:05:07] She doesn't know how you feel. [00:05:10] Now, if you said it to her, that would be evil. [00:05:14] Hey ma, I hope you die. [00:05:16] If he said it publicly, you know, I hope my mother dies. [00:05:20] That would be evil. [00:05:21] But if he say it privately, no. [00:05:28] I give more examples of Nixon and Truman in my piece. [00:05:35] Read it during the break. [00:05:37] Send it to people. [00:05:38] It's really, really important. [00:05:40] Why private speech? [00:05:43] Doesn't tell us about a person's character. [00:05:45] It's up at townhall.com or my website.
