What Does the Bible Say About Capital Punishment?
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
I have a lot of theories on this subject, obviously.
I've given a lifetime of thought to it, written a great deal about it.
So, it's an interesting thing.
This country is quite divided, right?
Those who hate the president and those who support him.
Love or support him.
Not everybody supports him, loves him, but half the country supports him.
And you and I will agree, I'm sure, that the vast majority of the haters of Donald Trump are against capital punishment, and the vast majority of supporters of Donald Trump are for capital punishment for murder, for premeditated murder.
And I have a theory.
Those who do not take out their fury on the evil will take out their fury on the less evil or even the good.
That's my theory.
Okay.
I'll leave it at that.
As far as Cain, Cain did not commit premeditated murder.
The Bible is clear.
I get that question all the time.
It's a perfectly legitimate one.
Why did God kill Cain?
Cain didn't...
As far as we know, Cain didn't even know that hitting Abel would kill him.
He had not experienced death.
So it's a completely unique situation.
All righty, everybody.
And let's see here.
Okay.
I'm just looking at what...
Well, Craig in Southfield, Michigan.
Hi.
Hi, Dennis.
I don't oppose capital punishment.
I take the biblical view.
But because I've had a couple of close friends take their lives, when it comes to punishing people, Wait, I'm sorry.
I didn't understand that.
You've had a couple of friends who took their lives?
Right.
You mean who committed suicide?
Exactly.
Yes, exactly.
Okay, I'm sorry.
And how does that relate to this?
Tell me.
Oh, okay.
How it relates is that people take their lives because they can't endure the suffering of existing.
These are people that have a conscience, right?
In my case, at least.
One went to the Marines to be a minister, and another was a close friend of mine, right?
And so I am for capital punishment because people need to know that there's a consequence for their action.
But when it comes to suffering, if I could wish something upon these evil people, it would be a conscience.
Because they don't suffer for the things that they do.
And that was just...
That was my comment.
Wait, so wait.
They don't suffer because their conscience doesn't bother them, and therefore you are or you're not for capital punishment?
I am for capital punishment.
I am for capital punishment, one, because I have a biblical worldview.
Right, I understand.
So what does the conscience issue have to do with this?
Well, the conscience issue is a wish.
Like, I wish that these people, like these people that can lie, right?
You can't lie.
I can't lie.
Most people can lie.
Right.
I think a lot of them, their conscience is defective.
I agree.
It is not relevant to me, though.
The issue is the injustice and the horrible injustice to the murdered and to their families.
The man gets murdered, the child gets murdered, and the murderer gets room and board.
I just find it revolting.
All right, relief factor.
Now, if relief factor could relieve my angst about this issue, well, I hope there's no pill that could ever relieve your angst about moral issues, to be honest.
