Dennis Prager Show - The Joy of Intimacy Aired: 2020-01-23 Duration: 04:41 === Why Not Marriage? (04:41) === [00:00:00] So, okay, so people will feel alone. [00:00:03] Does the aloneness grow over time, or do you think that within like a month of the marriage, a lot of people already have it? [00:00:14] I think it's there all the time. [00:00:16] You can get distracted, you can be excited about the marriage, but in every quiet moment, you realize you're alone in the world. [00:00:29] And the only cure is marriage, by the way. [00:00:33] I mean, God said, therefore should a man leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. [00:00:40] Why can't you be close with your mother and father and be one with them? [00:00:45] Good, go on. [00:00:46] Because to them you're number three. [00:00:49] Hopefully they have each other. [00:00:51] That's right. [00:00:52] So the only relationship in which you are really one is a marriage. [00:00:56] Where you truly become one. [00:00:59] Right, not with children either. [00:01:01] Not with parents, not with children. [00:01:05] I subscribe to that 100%. [00:01:08] I know that. [00:01:10] There's very little we disagree on on this subject. [00:01:13] There may be little we disagree on on a lot of subjects. [00:01:16] Other subjects may be. [00:01:18] But anyway, whatever it is, I'm glad that you know that. [00:01:26] I told you I don't talk about the topic with guests during the breaks because I want to always reserve it for the listeners. [00:01:33] But I did mention one of my favorite lines in the Bible where God said, it's not good for man to be alone. [00:01:40] You said you had thoughts on that subject, on that verse. [00:01:43] Yeah. [00:01:44] And I'd only realized this recently, even though I've read it so many times. [00:01:49] God is creating the world. [00:01:51] On the first day, he created light. [00:01:53] And on the second day, he created the heaven. [00:01:55] On the third day, he created grass and trees. [00:01:58] And then all of a sudden, God says, I created man, but it's not good with man alone, so I'm going to create a woman. [00:02:06] Why the statement? [00:02:09] You're doing great. [00:02:10] You're creating. [00:02:10] You know, you're on a roll. [00:02:12] Just create what you need to create. [00:02:14] What's with the statement? [00:02:16] It's almost like he's justifying himself or something. [00:02:19] Not good with man alone, I'll create a woman. [00:02:22] Just go ahead and do it. [00:02:24] Right, like everything else. [00:02:25] Like everything else. [00:02:26] He didn't say it's not good for there not to be light. [00:02:28] Right. [00:02:29] Or only a sun without a moon. [00:02:31] Yeah, right. [00:02:31] Exactly. [00:02:32] Okay, so go on. [00:02:35] It is an absolutely divine instinct to not want to be alone. [00:02:43] It's not human. [00:02:45] Because as far as humans are concerned... [00:02:47] All you ever hear is, leave me alone. [00:02:51] So is it good to be alone or is it not good to be alone? [00:02:55] If a human being were perfectly capable, totally self-sufficient, anything wrong with that? [00:03:04] Be alone. [00:03:05] Don't depend on anybody. [00:03:07] Don't need anybody. [00:03:08] Well, that's the goal in modern life. [00:03:09] But go on. [00:03:10] I don't want to distract you. [00:03:11] Go on. [00:03:12] So when God said it is not good, he actually created that. [00:03:17] He created loneliness. [00:03:18] He created the fact that being just you is not good. [00:03:23] Wow. [00:03:23] Even when you're perfect. [00:03:25] Like him. [00:03:28] Well, that's great. [00:03:29] That is a great line. [00:03:31] If I could, for my second edition of my Genesis commentary, I will cite you. [00:03:37] The Mishnator. [00:03:38] That's right. [00:03:39] The second one. [00:03:40] Right, exactly. [00:03:43] You will love this then. [00:03:45] I wrote in my commentary something I had heard from a Protestant minister. [00:03:48] I never heard it from him. [00:03:50] Someone told me. [00:03:51] So I couldn't cite who it is. [00:03:53] And I never found out the source. [00:03:56] But this I would love your reaction to. [00:03:59] This minister, this pastor said God was saying something else as well. [00:04:06] Adam, after all, related to God. [00:04:09] So even God and you. [00:04:17] In a sense, God is saying, I'm creating you in my image. [00:04:25] For no particular reason, I don't want to be alone. [00:04:30] And I'm giving you that same instinct. [00:04:33] So that even on a human level, besides your relationship with God, which is mystical...
