[00:00:05] No matter what sign you are, you might be affected by the lunar eclipse. [00:00:10] What can your astrological sign tell you about your health? [00:00:14] Plus, Debbie Reynolds and her daughter, Carrie Fisher. [00:00:17] You lost your sister and your mother within 24 hours. [00:00:20] How did you cope? [00:00:21] What really happened in their final hours leading up to their deaths? [00:00:25] Coming up next. [00:00:33] to save some lives today. [00:00:39] I love you, Becca. [00:00:49] So, they were asking, what can your astrological sign tell you about your health? [00:00:55] And our entire audience is seated according to where they fall in the zodiac. [00:01:00] So, I'm a Gemini. [00:01:01] So, where are my Geminis? [00:01:04] Hey, Geminis. [00:01:05] All right, so we get started. [00:01:07] Throughout history, civilizations have found meaning written in the stars. [00:01:11] That's what they would say. [00:01:12] In fact, Hippocrates, that's the oath we take when we graduate from medical school, once said, a physician without knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician. [00:01:22] Pretty powerful words. [00:01:23] And believe it or not, modern astrologers are looking into it and claim the season of your birth may actually have an influence on your health. [00:01:29] So I've asked astrologer Rebecca Gordon to come with us through this little journey through your body with new insights into your health horoscope. [00:01:36] Thank you for being here. [00:01:37] Hi, thank you. [00:01:38] So at this time of year, when we're so yearning for warmer weather in spring, what are the tips? [00:01:43] What's the astrological survey tell us? [00:01:46] Well, in this time of year, our muscles tighten, our bones constrict, and overall, we're just tensed up. [00:01:52] Therefore, We really need to focus more on our mental health. [00:01:56] Now, astrologically speaking, the sun happens to be in the sign of Aquarius right now. [00:02:00] Aquarius rules the circulatory system. [00:02:02] Oh, my. [00:02:03] Yes, and the circulatory system, as you know, brings oxygen to the brain and the body. [00:02:08] So, when that doesn't happen, we can't think clearly. [00:02:11] So, it's most important for us to really fortify the circulatory system and also all parts of the body as we just tend to tense up in winter overall. [00:02:19] So, let me show you an image of the zodiac man. [00:02:22] There he is. [00:02:23] There's the zodiac man. [00:02:24] And interestingly, the zodiac man, you know, all the little body parts there spread around, but they're corresponding to different parts of the astrological signs. [00:02:31] And they somehow, with the belief that our bodies are connected to the stars, that we each have a specific star sign. [00:02:36] But Rebecca, this is really important, says that all 12 of those astrological signs play a role in everybody. [00:02:43] And they work together to keep us balanced. [00:02:45] So let's start with the Gemini. [00:02:47] Let's just do the whole show on Gemini. [00:02:49] Since I'm a Gemini. [00:02:50] Is that okay with the Gemini over there? [00:02:52] All right. [00:02:52] So put your hands up again. [00:02:53] Let me see you all. [00:02:54] I know where you are. [00:02:55] So, what should we know about our star sign now? [00:02:58] So, Gemini rules the hands and the arms, and really the focus here is on communication. [00:03:04] All right, let's go head to toe to get everyone organized. [00:03:06] We'll start at the head, which is Aries, right? [00:03:07] The head of the ram. [00:03:08] So, what's in store for the Aries guys out there? [00:03:12] All right. [00:03:12] So, what's in store for their health right now? [00:03:15] Sure. [00:03:16] Aries is headstrong, and they just literally ram headfirst into everything in life. [00:03:20] I mean, after all, they are the first sign of the zodiac. [00:03:23] And this can result in migraines and sinus pressure and all kinds of challenges around the head, and even draw attention to. [00:03:31] Aries, can you identify with that, all my Aries friends? [00:03:34] Yeah. [00:03:35] All right, next, I got actually Renata's in there. [00:03:37] She's brave enough to take on the Tauruses, the Bulls. [00:03:40] Yeah. [00:03:40] I got my Taurus girl here, Gabrielle. [00:03:44] So, what's going on with your health? [00:03:46] Basically, I've been experiencing a lot of neck pain. [00:03:49] I don't know whether it's because the way I'm sleeping, because I even switched out my pillows, and it still doesn't work. [00:03:54] So, I don't know what's going on. [00:03:56] So, you got the crick in your neck and all that going on? [00:03:58] Yes, I find myself also doing this, and it's still like, oh, it's not working. [00:04:01] So, I have no idea. [00:04:03] Okay, that's my Taurus girl, Gabrielle. [00:04:05] Help her out. [00:04:07] For all the Tauruses who are suffering from neck pain, first of all, does it make sense to you? [00:04:11] Yes, it makes absolute sense because Tauruses rules the neck, Tauruses' neck of the bull. [00:04:17] So I have a great exercise that I'll do generally in the morning, and they're basic head circles that you can do. [00:04:22] Everyone do this, not just the Tauruses, everyone do it because this applies to everybody because we all have a little Taurus in us. [00:04:27] All right, so walk me through it. [00:04:28] So basically, you pretend that there's a ball the size of the orange below your neck, so you're not going to put your chin too far down and you're going to make some loose head circles. [00:04:37] Making sure you keep them about even, just so. [00:04:41] Very slowly getting a full stretch out. [00:04:43] This is not about speed. [00:04:45] Do about two in one direction. [00:04:47] Right. [00:04:48] And then let's switch direction. [00:04:50] Switch it around. [00:04:51] Oh, I threw my neck out. [00:04:53] So, that orange is a good idea because you don't push too hard down in any direction. [00:04:58] How's that working over there for the Tauruses? [00:05:00] Pretty good. [00:05:01] Pretty good. [00:05:01] I feel a little bit better. [00:05:02] Okay. [00:05:04] All right. [00:05:04] What about cancers? [00:05:05] You got to go slow. [00:05:06] Right. [00:05:07] The chest of the crab, which is my wife's sign. [00:05:10] I've learned to live with cancers for 32 years. [00:05:13] What should I do for her? [00:05:14] Cancers are very sensitive. [00:05:16] Yes. [00:05:16] They love to nurture and also be nurtured. [00:05:19] Yes. [00:05:19] Cancer rules the chest, which is really the protective shell of the body. [00:05:24] Now, when we become too protective, other people aren't able to access our emotions. [00:05:29] So, when the Cancerian energy is out of balance, this can result in cysts, in water retention, and overall blocked energy. [00:05:38] So, it's just important to express your feelings. [00:05:42] I try, but it doesn't always work with the cancer. [00:05:44] So, what should I give me something to give to her? [00:05:46] A little advice or something that I can offer her that might make her feel happier about this. [00:05:51] So, yes, Lisa, I do happen to know she is a cancer. [00:05:54] And I do have a special gift that I would like you to give to Lisa. [00:05:59] This is for all cancers. [00:06:00] Yes. [00:06:01] So, this is a homemade peppermint body scrub here. [00:06:06] And basically, this really opens the chest and penetrates the cancerian shell. [00:06:12] Also, it's sort of invigorating with the scent of peppermint and it fully awakens the senses. [00:06:19] The great thing about this is you can all make it at home. [00:06:21] It has three ingredients peppermint oil. [00:06:25] Coconut oil and sugar. [00:06:27] Oh, look at that. [00:06:28] It's rich. [00:06:29] I'm going to give it to her as a present. [00:06:31] Don't tell me when you gave it to me. [00:06:33] Cancers are so sensitive. [00:06:34] You all know that. [00:06:34] Thank you for the gift. [00:06:35] I appreciate it very much. [00:06:36] Up next, our experts giving you more keys to your health based on when you were born and the best thing we can all do to stay healthy this winter, no matter your star sign. [00:06:49] Sexually assaulted on vacation. [00:06:51] It was a security guard. [00:06:53] He raped me. [00:06:54] How a five star hotel failed her. [00:06:57] It was. [00:06:57] The assault after the assault. [00:06:59] Next Oz. [00:07:01] That's coming up tomorrow. [00:07:09] We're back with astrologer Rebecca Gordon, exploring what she says your astrological sign can reveal about your health. [00:07:14] So, Renata's here, she's standing by with a Leo. [00:07:16] Take it away. [00:07:17] Okay, so I'm here with Mila, and she is a Leo. [00:07:23] Okay, I'm a Leo too. [00:07:24] Where are my Leos? [00:07:28] All right, come on. [00:07:29] Tell us what health issues you're having. [00:07:31] Well, nothing major, but I have been having some upper back tension and pain. [00:07:36] I don't know. [00:07:37] I freelance, so I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, kind of hunched over. [00:07:41] Not the best position, so yeah. [00:07:43] So, Rebecca, upper back pain, I hear a lot from Leos because there are so many Leos in my family. [00:07:49] You know, sisters, son in laws, they're all over the place. [00:07:51] So, is that pretty typical? [00:07:52] Yes, and they definitely roar. [00:07:54] Now, upper back pain is definitely typical of Leo, and especially right now because Leo asks us all to reflect on the way we express and shine our light into the world. [00:08:05] Now, when the Leos exaggerate it within you, we become overly confident and proud. [00:08:10] And when it's not, we become hunched over and quite the opposite. [00:08:14] Got it. [00:08:15] When the Leo within us is out of balance, we tend to experience back pain, tension, tightness. [00:08:21] Does that sound right, Leos? [00:08:24] Yep. [00:08:25] I think so. [00:08:26] You know, I'm always confident, so I'm always at attention. [00:08:29] So now we're all behaving like Leos. [00:08:31] Y'all are going to be too big or too small. [00:08:33] All right, how about Virgos? [00:08:34] Virgos is the belly of the virgin, right? [00:08:36] So it's down, we're moving down from the head. [00:08:38] What's the deal with Virgos? [00:08:40] Right. [00:08:40] So Virgo rules the process of editing and overall organizing. [00:08:46] Now, that's actually exactly what the intestines do. [00:08:50] They figure out what the body needs and what the body does not need. [00:08:53] So it's the energy of digestion, which is a metaphor for the way that we digest reality. [00:08:59] Now, when our digestion of our reality is out of balance and we're not processing, often that reflects on the way that we actually digest food in the stomach and also our core. [00:09:11] I never knew how this all fit together. [00:09:12] So, come on, we have a little trick you say we can use to help that inner Virgo. === Virgo Energy and Home Remedies (06:46) === [00:09:16] This is called dirty chai. [00:09:18] All right, how do we make it? [00:09:19] What does it do? [00:09:20] And why is it so powerful? [00:09:22] Great. [00:09:22] I love dirty chai because, first of all, you have all of these wonderful spices that really warm the stomach and bring in digestive fires to the belly, which is what you want for strong digestion. [00:09:33] We have black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, ginger, especially ginger, and clove. [00:09:40] So these are all wonderful and warming for the body, and they taste delicious and sweet too. [00:09:45] Now, what makes it dirty is that. [00:09:46] I want to say, you don't have to always make, you can steep all these things if you want. [00:09:49] Just buy the box of chai tea. [00:09:51] It's like a penny. [00:09:52] Just buy the box. [00:09:54] That's the chai that I've heard of. [00:09:55] What makes it dirty? [00:09:57] Sure. [00:09:57] What makes it dirty is this it's a shot of espresso. [00:10:01] And we like to pour it into the chai tea, and it adds a boost of energy. [00:10:06] Now, of course, if you have a sensitive stomach, let's say you're a Virgo, you don't have to add that in. [00:10:12] If you really want to do it right, I want to try this dirty chai. [00:10:16] I like the name, it's brilliantly branded. [00:10:20] Oh, man, that is good. [00:10:21] That's a perfect way of taking the floweriness of the chai and just pumping it up a little bit. [00:10:26] This is a very good idea. [00:10:27] And again, for the Virgos, but for anyone else who has Virgo elements to them, which is all of us, not a bad idea. [00:10:32] All right, up next, we're going to cover the rest of our astrological signs and reveal the best thing Rebecca says everyone can do for inner star strength, no matter your sign. [00:10:40] If you go to break, here's her 2018 health horoscope for Libras, Scorpios, and Sagittarius. [00:10:48] Libra rules the lower back. [00:10:50] Librans give too much to others, often bending over backwards and not putting enough care into their own lives. [00:10:56] This can manifest in a sore lower back, the body's metaphor for not being able to stand up straight and focus on self-care. [00:11:05] Scorpio rules the sacral center, the site of rebirth and regeneration. [00:11:10] Astrologers believe Scorpios can be at risk for holding on to past relationships or experiences, and this refusal to move forward can create problems. [00:11:20] Sagittarius is the centaur, half- Man half horse man and horse meet at the hips, the center of balance. [00:11:27] Astrologers believe Sagittarians may be at risk for sciatica or problems with loose or tight hips. [00:11:37] She found the man of her dreams. [00:11:39] He wanted to get married within the second day. [00:11:41] Then he tried to kill her daughter. [00:11:43] He was stabbing me. [00:11:45] Could you be dating a sociopath and not know it? [00:11:48] That's coming up Friday on Dr. Oz. [00:11:56] Astrologer Rebecca Gordon is here revealing your 2018 health horoscope. [00:12:00] The next star sign is Capricorn. [00:12:03] That's the knees of the seagoat. [00:12:05] How does winter affect our knees and Capricorns in general? [00:12:09] Yeah, so Capricorns are extremely responsible. [00:12:12] And in life, they tend to take on a very heavy load. [00:12:15] And this heavy load also, in turn, generally weakens the energy of the knees, weakens the knees, as well as they can become very stiff also. [00:12:25] So when this happens, What we're needing to do is really fortify the body and for all signs, not only Capricorn, with extra calcium and good oils right now as well. [00:12:37] You know, we don't have much sun, so the vitamin D would help with the bone strength. [00:12:40] Absolutely. [00:12:40] It actually makes sense. [00:12:41] I don't know how they put those pieces together. [00:12:43] Again, for all of us, it makes sense because vitamin D levels in America now, they're probably low. [00:12:47] So this is cool. [00:12:48] All right, then we go to Renata. [00:12:49] She's got the Aquarius in the audience. [00:12:51] Yeah, I'm here with my girl, Nadia. [00:12:54] She's an Aquarius. [00:12:56] Her birthday's coming up, so Merry Birthday, okay? [00:12:59] What problems are you having with your health? [00:13:03] Recently, I've been having some issues with my ankles. [00:13:06] I work in the fashion industry, so I have to wear heels constantly. [00:13:10] Usually, sometimes I don't have problems, but recently I have a lot of weakness. [00:13:14] I'm trying to wear flats, but you can't really get away with that a lot. [00:13:17] Got to be cute all the time. [00:13:19] You try. [00:13:19] You try. [00:13:21] All right. [00:13:22] So she's an Aquarius. [00:13:23] She's got ankle issues. [00:13:24] What should we all do here? [00:13:26] So Aquarians are really here to show us the value of individuality, and strong ankles are key in our ability to stand up for what we believe in as well. [00:13:36] Oh. [00:13:37] Now, also Aquarius rules the circulatory system. [00:13:41] So, cardio is very important this time of year to activate both the ankles, strengthening them, and also bringing more oxygen to the brain, increasing circulation as well during this time of year. [00:13:52] Speaking of ankles, the bottom of the horoscope of the Pisces, the fish, right, the feet down there. [00:13:57] So, how does that work? [00:13:58] What do they do? [00:13:58] What's their problem? [00:14:00] Sure. [00:14:00] So, Pisces is very important. [00:14:03] They basically, it's the soles of the feet, which are our connection as spiritual beings to this physical world. [00:14:09] Pisces rules the connection between the spiritual and the physical. [00:14:14] And when this is out of balance, there can be problems in the foot area as well. [00:14:19] This makes sense, actually. [00:14:20] I like this. [00:14:22] So, come on over here. [00:14:22] There's one thing you say we should all be doing, all of us, no matter our star sign. [00:14:26] Yes. [00:14:26] And I want to understand that because I think a lot of these ideas seem very sort of out there, but when you actually put them into practice, they make a difference. [00:14:34] So, what should we all be doing? [00:14:36] Sure. [00:14:36] So, there's a few things that we can do. [00:14:38] So, I like to bring in the element of citrus, which is represented and ruled by the sun as well. [00:14:42] Citrus like this. [00:14:44] Absolutely. [00:14:45] This is like a natural diffuser that you can make at home, and it reminds me of the energy of Leo when the sun is shining bright. [00:14:51] So, here you stick basic cloves into an orange and place them around the house, and you have beautiful, sort of decorative, natural diffusers. [00:15:00] How does that smell affect you? [00:15:01] It smells so nice. [00:15:02] It's very smooth, very festive, but it actually is clean. [00:15:04] It's a very native citrus. [00:15:05] Yeah. [00:15:06] Citrus does it, right? [00:15:07] Some smells sort of cloud your field. [00:15:09] Citrus cleans it up a little bit. [00:15:11] Yeah, it really uplifts the energy. [00:15:14] Bring more and more citrus and vitamin C into your diet and also the aromas. [00:15:18] Another thing you can do is really just boil the orange rinds as well, and that fills up the health with a nice citrus uplifting. [00:15:24] Don't waste anything. [00:15:25] Okay, what's this? [00:15:27] So, this is a face cloth that basically you run under hot water and then put a few drops of lemon oil on. [00:15:36] Hold that about one inch from your face and really just breathe that in and give your face a beautiful smooth. [00:15:42] Yeah, move over. [00:15:46] What do you think about that? [00:15:47] It's very energizing. [00:15:48] It's good. [00:15:50] I can use it daily. [00:15:51] A simple idea, but I like it. [00:15:53] Yeah, it is extremely simple, but after a day out in the cold when we feel all congested, that's a wonderful day. [00:15:58] It's a wonderful way. [00:16:00] To really end the day and also begin it just to clear through the sinuses. === Todd's Epiphany on Control (15:43) === [00:16:03] And one last tip for everybody, no matter your horoscope. [00:16:06] Oh, my goodness, something to drink. [00:16:08] Have you tasted it yet? [00:16:09] Not yet. [00:16:09] Go ahead and taste it. [00:16:10] What is this? [00:16:11] Sure. [00:16:11] So, this is a citrus smoothie which contains orange juice, mango, really bright citrus flavors, as well as Greek yogurt for protein and a handful of cashews in that. [00:16:23] This is really good. [00:16:24] It's refreshing. [00:16:25] Refreshing. [00:16:26] I'm hearing the same thing, especially in this time of year, to be refreshing, to be alive, and to be lifted up. [00:16:31] I think it's pretty cool. [00:16:32] Plus, to me, citrus always signifies. [00:16:34] Coming of spring. [00:16:35] Yes. [00:16:35] What's coming after this? [00:16:36] So it gets us through it. [00:16:37] I hope you all enjoyed your presence. [00:16:38] It's the least I could do for you, literally. [00:16:41] Rebecca reminds us that we all embody easier than 12 zodiac signs. [00:16:46] So I want each of you to be conscious of your body as a whole to live a balanced life. [00:16:50] Makes sense, right? [00:16:51] It all makes sense. [00:16:52] Thanks for being here. [00:16:52] You can find more of these star seekers in Rebecca's book, Your Body and the Stars. [00:16:56] We'll be right back. [00:17:02] We were all shocked when one of the most iconic mom daughter duos in Hollywood history died just 24 hours apart. [00:17:08] Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher. [00:17:11] Today, Debbie's only son Todd is here and he's sharing their never before heard stories on what really happened in their final hours leading up to their deaths. [00:17:28] Shaken by actress Carrie Fisher's sudden death. [00:17:31] Then, less than 24 hours later, we were stunned once again when her mom, Debbie Reynolds, passed away. [00:17:38] Now, Debbie's only remaining child and Carrie's only brother, Todd Fisher, is here. [00:17:43] Ready to share with us never before seen or heard stories from his sister's incredible rise to stardom to her demons and the eerie prediction her mother made in the final hours before her death. [00:17:55] Please welcome Todd Fisher. [00:18:06] Thank you. [00:18:07] Good to meet you. [00:18:07] Nice to meet you as well. [00:18:10] Well, thank you for coming on. [00:18:12] My pleasure. [00:18:12] This is a, it can be difficult at times when you lose folks, but you lost your sister and your mother within 24 hours. [00:18:21] How did you manage to keep up? [00:18:23] How did you cope? [00:18:24] Well, you know, you don't get any, shall we say, education or no one can teach you about these things. [00:18:31] Can't watch a show and learn how to do it. [00:18:33] When it happens to you, you just deal with it. [00:18:35] And whoever you are down in your soul and your Your depths and what you've been through in life is what gets you through. [00:18:41] So, part of what got me through is just the training and the life with my mother. [00:18:45] You know, she was a very strong person. [00:18:47] She had great strength in her faith, and she also just trained us to be very secure people. [00:18:53] So, you know, you're born into Hollywood royalty. [00:18:55] Just to be clear, you know, you all remember this, right? [00:18:56] Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher, they marry, right? [00:18:59] It's Camelot, right? [00:19:00] Yeah. [00:19:01] What is it like being raised among Hollywood royalty? [00:19:03] Well, you know, you don't have another frame of reference other than, say, watching television. [00:19:07] Leave it to Beaver. [00:19:08] Father knows best, then you compare that to you and you go, Wow, that's not the same thing. [00:19:13] Then you, you know, but it was my frame of normal. [00:19:17] So, as much as you all have your frame of normal, that was our frame of normal. [00:19:21] So, our friends maybe were famous and our lifestyle was elaborate, but at the same time, it was our frame of normal. [00:19:29] All right, so you wrote this beautiful book. [00:19:31] It's called My Girls. [00:19:32] What was the first time in your life that you realized you needed to actually protect your mom, that you needed to become the man of the family? [00:19:39] So, the famous Harry Carl, the second husband. [00:19:42] As it turns out, Eddie's the good husband, the best of all of them. [00:19:46] I always say the bar was kind of low. [00:19:50] But at any rate, Harry Carl had basically gone through all of his money and my mother's money. [00:19:56] And without getting into great detail there, we found ourselves sitting in New York City, 74th Street, between 3rd and Lex, in a little brownstone. [00:20:04] My mother was doing the play Irene here at the time. [00:20:06] And I was living with her. [00:20:07] And the lawyers were in the room explaining all the things that Debbie was going to have to give up. [00:20:12] You know, in this divorce. [00:20:14] And kind of like the movie Big, when Tom Hanks goes. [00:20:20] I did that. [00:20:21] I put up my hand and the guy goes, Yes? [00:20:25] I was like, Okay, I heard everything that she has to give up, but what is he giving up? [00:20:31] And at that moment, I had this epiphany during that moment. [00:20:34] And then what followed was that I was the only one left to stand up for her and to see these things. [00:20:41] And I was only 15 years old, but I flashed on it big time right there and then. [00:20:46] And I never stepped out of that role to the end. [00:20:49] So your mom seems to have had. [00:20:51] Quite a few premonitions. [00:20:52] I want to go back to the night she died. [00:20:57] So, you've lost Carrie. [00:20:59] You're still trying to figure out, put the pieces together, and you go talk to your mom. [00:21:04] And what exactly does she say? [00:21:06] Well, first of all, just slightly before that, when I told her Carrie died, she didn't even seem shocked to me. [00:21:15] She wasn't? [00:21:16] She really wasn't. [00:21:17] I was in remorse. [00:21:18] I was crying. [00:21:20] And she was like, oh, I really wish we could have had her a little while longer, because she had mentioned this the day before while Carrie was in a coma. [00:21:29] So, we were really struggling. [00:21:31] With the idea that we wanted her to get through this somehow. [00:21:34] But somehow my mother had had this premonition, and she had told several people, besides my wife and myself, that the plane was going to go down. [00:21:43] Now, my mother had dreams. [00:21:45] A Carrie's plane that she was coming back from England on. [00:21:47] And ironically, Carrie technically died while the plane was going down. [00:21:51] It was on its way into Los Angeles, it was on final approach. [00:21:55] Emergency landing, yeah. [00:21:56] Now, my mother used to say all the time when we were kids, you know, sometimes she'd talk like that. [00:22:03] She said, I had a dream the other night. [00:22:06] We'd all go, oh God, now look out, what's going to happen now? [00:22:10] Because almost always it would come to pass. [00:22:14] Now, there was never anything this extreme that I heard before. [00:22:16] So when she's saying this, we're all really kind of panicking about what could, but it was, she was desperate to get Carrie home. [00:22:23] So anyway, you know, we all know what happens. [00:22:25] Carrie doesn't make it on that plane ride, she's in a coma. [00:22:29] I'm with my mom that night, going back to your question. [00:22:32] And she, you know, Carrie had passed away. [00:22:35] My mother said, You know, I really miss Carrie and I really think I need to be with her. [00:22:44] And, you know, are you going to be okay when I go? [00:22:49] And I was like, of course, don't worry about that. [00:22:51] I mean, by the way, I'm not thinking like she means in eight hours. [00:22:55] Right? [00:22:56] Of course. [00:22:57] You know, this is the freaky part about this. [00:22:59] She's literally, now, by the way, I to this moment can't even tell you if she knows that, but she's asking permission to leave the earth. [00:23:06] She very quietly says, you know, this is what I do. [00:23:09] I look after Carrie. [00:23:11] This is what I've done my whole life. [00:23:12] So she quietly, we had some conversations about how she wanted to change her arrangements for where she was going to be buried. [00:23:20] Originally, kind of had said in her plans that my mother wanted to be buried with my grandparents in a very small, sort of non fussy way. [00:23:28] But now she's thinking because Carrie, she said, You know, you're right, dear, because I've been arguing about that with her for years, that she needed a better place for her fans to go visit her. [00:23:36] She goes, You're right, dear, we should get something better, and then you can put me there with Carrie. [00:23:41] This is so eerie. [00:23:42] This is hours before she leaves the earth. [00:23:45] And by the way, none of this is in the estate papers that I have, so she's sort of giving me quick notes on what's about to happen a few hours later. [00:23:52] So I literally get a dossier of things to do. [00:23:56] The next morning, I go down to see her, and she's very groggy when I see her, and then she kind of wakes up, and she was very hard to wake up. [00:24:06] And what was happening is she was actually having, well, in your medical terms, some sort of a hemorrhage in the back of her spine. [00:24:13] But she literally said goodbye to me, like right there, closed her eyes, and went to sleep right in front of my face. [00:24:19] I was this close to the whole thing, closer. [00:24:21] I was sitting with her on the bed. [00:24:22] In fact, I sat up next to her because she was resting so peacefully, I thought that there was something wrong. [00:24:28] I saw the way her lip moved, and I got the flashlight out, and her pupils were fixed. [00:24:34] Then I got the doctor in there, and I was like, hey, blood pressure, normal. [00:24:39] Totally normal. [00:24:40] So, in fairness, just to be honest, because stories like this captivate me. [00:24:46] Well, you're the doctor, you know. [00:24:49] The tabloids were wrong, the headlines were incorrect. [00:24:51] She did not die of a broken heart, she willed herself off the planet. [00:24:54] Yeah, so that's a great point. [00:24:56] I mean, I was so frustrated listening to all of the. [00:24:59] So called experts yammering on about broken heart and people dying from broken hearts and all this. [00:25:05] And I went out and I said, No, that's not what happened. [00:25:09] What happened is she willed herself off the planet. [00:25:12] But more complicated than that, and I tell this story in my book, my mother was not getting along that great with my dad. [00:25:18] Carrie had been born. [00:25:19] My mother did not want Carrie to be an only child. [00:25:22] So she took off to Spain to be with my father, who was with his best friend Mike Todd, who I was named after, and Elizabeth Taylor. [00:25:31] She slept with him one time on this trip. [00:25:35] And then she went back to her best friend who had traveled with her and said, Okay, we can leave now. [00:25:39] And you being a doctor, you know how this works. [00:25:42] Her best friend was a school teacher and said, Nah, Debbie, I mean, I know you play these naive parts in the movies, but this is the real world and that doesn't happen like that. [00:25:52] Well, indeed, she said, No, I know I'm pregnant. [00:25:56] Please, you're fantasizing. [00:25:58] They went home. [00:26:01] That it was that one time. [00:26:03] All right. [00:26:04] On that note, Up Next Time reveals the truth about Carrie's battle with drugs and alcohol. [00:26:10] It's going to expose the truth behind what really led to her untimely death. [00:26:13] Stay with us. [00:26:20] She found the man of her dreams. [00:26:21] He wanted to get married within the second date. [00:26:24] Then he tried to kill her daughter. [00:26:26] He was stabbing me. [00:26:27] Could you be dating a sociopath and not know it? [00:26:31] That's coming up Friday on Dr. Oz. [00:26:34] That's a clip from the HBO documentary film Bright Light, starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. [00:26:39] I'm back with Todd Fisher, also quite prominently involved, narrating much else in that, who's revealing the truths behind his famous sister Carrie and her battle with addiction and what led to her untimely death. [00:26:51] Officially, it was sleep apnea leads to cardiac arrest. [00:26:55] Right. [00:26:56] But you don't really think that's what killed your sister? [00:26:59] Well, you know, a lifetime of medications, starting when she was a young teenager, was certainly a contributor. [00:27:10] You can't ignore the fact that when Carrie was very young, she had sleep issues. [00:27:14] And back in those days, you know, the doctors prescribed small, mild sleeping medications. [00:27:21] And then when we were teenagers, the dentist gave Carrie some Percadent. [00:27:27] Percadan. [00:27:27] Percadan. [00:27:28] Well, for your teeth surgery or whatever, which I guess was common in that time. [00:27:32] In fact, I had my wisdom teeth pulled. [00:27:35] They gave me my Percadan, and I hated it. [00:27:37] And Carrie was like, Oh, well, if you don't want that, I'll take it. [00:27:40] And I was like, Okay. [00:27:42] Because, you know, what do we know, right? [00:27:43] So, you know, she began with those kind of medications. [00:27:47] We also got high together, like many teenagers did in the 60s and 70s. [00:27:53] I just never progressed the way she did. [00:27:56] She kept finding more and more interesting drugs that she wanted to try. [00:27:59] I didn't find it that interesting. [00:28:01] I liked to be in control. [00:28:03] She liked to be out of control or in control or out of control at At her control, meaning as you take things. [00:28:11] So, what ended up occurring is that she had a lifetime of drugs. [00:28:15] When she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, the doctor stepped in with psychotropic drugs. [00:28:21] Then she ends up in rehabs, of course, for drug abuse. [00:28:25] They give other drugs in that. [00:28:27] And now all of a sudden, you have this myriad of drugs. [00:28:30] And back in the day, we talk about the California diet, it's pretty famous. [00:28:34] My mother did a film called Behind the Candelabra, where they talk about this literally a diet of pills. [00:28:42] And that's what happened. [00:28:42] You know, Carrie was given a diet of pills, whether they be opioids or other types of psychotropic drugs to control the bipolar. [00:28:51] I never saw so many pills at different times of her life. [00:28:53] But was this the norm, or are these doctors playing to the fact that your mother was world famous, iconic, your sister's famous? [00:29:02] They just want to be involved in managing them, and they became pill mills. [00:29:07] Well, in the early days, of course, that was the trend. [00:29:10] But later on in the last, say, 15, 20 years, there was a consciousness that perhaps, you know, you shouldn't just give. [00:29:16] An unlimited amount of pills. [00:29:18] As people died, when John Belushi died and other people died, it scared people. [00:29:22] Of course, Michael Jackson scared people. [00:29:25] You know, my sister would see these things and be scared by that. [00:29:29] And sometimes that would shock her into staying sober for periods of time. [00:29:34] But she was never able to be sober, and it partly had to do with her bipolar disorder. [00:29:39] And, you know, people don't understand this mood swing thing. [00:29:42] You know, one minute you're, she named her moods Roy and Pam. [00:29:46] Rollicking Roy. [00:29:47] So when she's on the high end of the roller coaster, it's Rollicking Roy. [00:29:50] When you're depressed, it was Pam, sediment Pam. [00:29:55] And in between is when she lives in our realm, the normal realm, so called normal realm. [00:30:00] But some of her most creative times in life were in that journey. [00:30:05] So the writing that you see, all these books and all these amazing quotes that Carrie comes up with, were generally happening during these journeys of mood swings. [00:30:15] So just in terms of tales of warning, you were with Belushi the night he died. [00:30:20] Right. [00:30:21] But that didn't scare her enough to say this is not the right path forward? [00:30:26] Yeah, every time it scared her. [00:30:28] Every time. [00:30:29] Every time one of these things would happen. [00:30:32] Her best friend died at her house, and it scared her to want to be sober again. [00:30:39] But we went through so many rehabs together that clearly one could say she could have taught the rehab easily. [00:30:46] I mean, I'm not kidding. [00:30:47] She was, first of all, a very intelligent young lady, and yet, and she knew the material backwards and forwards had nothing to do with it. [00:30:53] It had to do with this overwhelming mood swings that were uncontrollable and a desire. [00:31:00] Nobody knows what it's like to live inside that body. [00:31:03] None of us know what it's like to be inside of our loved one that's going through this. [00:31:07] Only they know. [00:31:08] They tell the doctor, This is what I'm feeling. [00:31:10] Doctor says, Let me adjust your medication. [00:31:12] But that's not always there 24 7. [00:31:15] So they want to adjust their own medications. [00:31:18] Looking back on your sister, what is it that made America fall in love with her? [00:31:23] Why do people adore her so? [00:31:25] I think just incredible, brutal honesty. [00:31:28] Where she used to say, our family wears our underwear on the outside of our clothing. [00:31:35] And that's how she lived her life. [00:31:38] Well, your family's left the mark, not just on Hollywood, but the entire planet. [00:31:42] It is wonderful to hear you open up as they did about their lives. === Gut Health and Beneficial Bacteria (10:00) === [00:31:46] And I think My Girls is brilliantly written. [00:31:48] Oh, I appreciate it. [00:31:49] Kudos to you for your work. [00:31:50] And by the way, pick up a copy of Todd's memoir, share with folks you care about. [00:31:53] It's called My Girls A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie, an Honest Betrayal. [00:31:57] We'll be right back. [00:32:05] Sexually Assaulted on Vacation. [00:32:07] It was a security guard. [00:32:09] Me. [00:32:10] How a five-star hotel failed her. [00:32:12] It was the assault after the assault. [00:32:15] Next Oz. [00:32:17] That's coming up tomorrow. [00:32:26] Are you someone who has a gut like a roller coaster? [00:32:30] One day you're constipated, just moving so slowly, eking around every corner. [00:32:37] The next day, almost very different. [00:32:38] It's fast, and you're suffering from diarrhea. [00:32:41] Constipation, diarrhea, constipation, diarrhea. [00:32:43] Well, you're not alone. [00:32:45] Gut health is one of the most common health problems in the world. [00:32:48] Today we have a three-step plan to help you check your gut health. [00:32:51] But first, let's look inside your gut to see how intricate It can be. [00:32:57] Remember, it's 26 feet of intestines. [00:33:00] That's a lot of intestines. [00:33:01] And it may be more personalized than your fingerprint. [00:33:04] That's how specific your gut bacteria are. [00:33:06] It's filled with trillions of bacteria, frankly, and it makes up about three quarters of our immune system. [00:33:12] So, with the help of gut health expert Dr. Alan Green, who's here on behalf of my trusted sponsorship partner, Diet Rescue, we're going to help arm you with the information you need to check your gut health. [00:33:22] I love having you here. [00:33:23] Great to be here. [00:33:24] This is the guy I turn to when I have, especially for kids, you know, just a wealth of encyclopedia. [00:33:29] I got rid of Google after I met you. [00:33:30] It's very helpful for us. [00:33:31] So, why is it important for everyone to be able to give themselves a gut checkup? [00:33:35] So, the diverse community of bacteria in the gut is so important, you could almost think of it like another vital organ. [00:33:43] It affects almost every system in the body. [00:33:45] These bacteria affect how likely you are to get sick, how likely you are to have allergies, even how likely you are to get depressed. [00:33:53] In many ways, good health begins in the gut. [00:33:56] The thought that all those could be interconnected is mind blowing, but for good reason because we never understood the gut, now we do. [00:34:02] So, you've got a three step plan. [00:34:03] Let's get through it. [00:34:04] I do. [00:34:05] The first is to expose yourself to beneficial bacteria. [00:34:07] So, explain what they are and how you do that. [00:34:10] Right. [00:34:10] So, you want to expose yourself to beneficial bacteria, and one way to do that is through the food that you eat. [00:34:16] It could be food that contains live bacteria like yogurt or kombucha or fermented foods like sauerkraut or kimchi. [00:34:23] But even just going to a farmer's market. [00:34:26] Fresh pick produce is covered in good bacteria that helps us out. [00:34:30] And pets. [00:34:31] Pets have been shown to. [00:34:33] Pets? [00:34:33] Yeah, if you have a pet, you have increased biodiversity in your gut. [00:34:37] It's great. [00:34:38] In fact, having a dog is one of my favorite probiotics. [00:34:41] Second, you've got to feed the bacteria, you have to allow them to flourish. [00:34:45] Exactly. [00:34:46] In order for them to thrive, these bacteria need something good to eat. [00:34:50] And things that feed the beneficial bacteria are called prebiotics. [00:34:55] Now, this surprises a lot of people. [00:34:57] The quintessential human prebiotic. [00:35:00] Is breast milk or colostrum. [00:35:02] And we think of breast milk and colostrum as feeding a baby, right? [00:35:06] But there are over 200 ingredients in those that the baby can't digest. [00:35:11] They're there to feed these beneficial bacteria. [00:35:14] And colostrum from dairy cows, too, it's supercharged with key proteins and immune factors and nutritional benefits. [00:35:21] Colostrum can be a great prebiotic. [00:35:24] And think fiber. [00:35:25] It's one of the reasons that vegetables and fruits and whole grains can be so great for us, they're helping out the good bacteria that help us. [00:35:32] And I also saw they created a little film over the gut. [00:35:34] So there are numerous reasons some of these foods that our mother told us were good for us. [00:35:37] Exactly. [00:35:38] Or our mother, frankly, gave us in her colostrum were beneficial. [00:35:41] All right, third thing is not to poison your bacteria. [00:35:43] Exactly. [00:35:43] We're destroying these good guys. [00:35:45] So that's the key. [00:35:46] And in the modern world, often we end up killing off our good bacteria. [00:35:49] Now, antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria. [00:35:53] They're one of the greatest discoveries in human history, but we use them far too often. [00:35:58] We use them to treat common minor illnesses. [00:36:01] They're even used to fatten up our food supply, the livestock and our food. [00:36:04] And sort of like that, Chemical preservatives are also there to kill microorganisms, and they could affect our good bacteria in the gut. [00:36:11] So, I prefer choosing food without chemical preservatives. [00:36:14] All right, so not taking antibiotics is pretty straightforward normally. [00:36:17] And a lot of us get our antibiotics without even realizing it, you know, for reasons we don't have to treat ourselves. [00:36:21] But sometimes you get sick, you get, you know, a diarrhea, which I was talking about earlier. [00:36:25] Right. [00:36:25] How do you relieve that? [00:36:26] So, that's a big deal, too. [00:36:27] So, when you have diarrhea, it can be a big disruption to the gut bacteria. [00:36:31] In fact, a lot of the good bacteria end up going down the toilet. [00:36:33] So, I'm really excited about something called Diarescue. [00:36:37] It's a new approach that Feeds the beneficial bacteria. [00:36:41] It's not a drug, it's not an antibiotic, it's a food. [00:36:44] And it enters the intestine and helps remove the bad actors during an episode of diarrhea and helps nourish the beneficial bacteria during and afterwards. [00:36:53] So give me some details. [00:36:55] How specifically does that? [00:36:57] So there's a couple things. [00:36:59] It contains colostrum, contains egg yolk, and from animals that have been exposed to various kinds of diarrhea. [00:37:05] So the immune factors are there. [00:37:09] And besides that, it's got the prebiotic to help. [00:37:11] Feed the beneficial bacteria and it can restore gut function really quickly. [00:37:15] In my experience, often in a single day. [00:37:18] So, my motto is be prepared. [00:37:21] For instance, when you travel, diarrhea is really common. [00:37:24] Depending on the destination, up to 70% of the time, people get diarrhea. [00:37:28] Two thirds of the time? [00:37:29] Yeah. [00:37:30] Where are you guys going? [00:37:31] Oh, my goodness. [00:37:33] So, I make it a priority for myself that whenever I travel, I bring diarrhea rescue along when I pack. [00:37:39] In fact, this is something I think you ought to have on hand, period. [00:37:42] There's some things we should have in our medicine cabinet. [00:37:44] You don't want to run to the store when you have diarrhea, whatever the cause might be. [00:37:48] So, there are things you want to prophylactically For and I like the idea of taking some when you travel as well. [00:37:52] Now that I know two thirds of us are getting diarrhea, so where do you find Dia Rescue? [00:37:56] So you don't need a prescription, you can get it online or at your local CVS. [00:37:59] All right, let me just shift gears for a second. [00:38:01] I don't know how much you realize this when we travel, we get diarrhea, it's a hassle to tell a story about it. [00:38:06] You know, people laugh and you can move on. [00:38:08] It is one of the major problems our globe is facing. [00:38:10] And one thing that caught my attention was Dia Rescue's Global Equity Access Initiative. [00:38:14] What that really means is they can help people around the world get access to care when they have diarrhea. [00:38:19] This is so important, just take a second of our audience's time, explain this gives me so much hope. [00:38:24] Right. [00:38:24] A huge killer. [00:38:25] Yeah, the equity of access program is core to who we are. [00:38:28] So if you or I get diarrhea, we know we're going to recover pretty soon, probably. [00:38:32] But it's not that way around the world. [00:38:34] Diarrhea kills more kids than AIDS globally, or malaria, or measles combined. [00:38:41] It's a huge problem. [00:38:43] And Diarrescue was actually developed, designed to help be a practical solution to that problem. [00:38:49] It's not a drug, it's not an antibiotic, it's a food. [00:38:51] And so the idea of that's why I got involved in the first place. [00:38:54] And anytime somebody supports a product like Diarrescue, they're helping with. [00:38:58] That mission. [00:39:00] So, yeah. [00:39:01] This is big. [00:39:02] Applaud on it. [00:39:05] Is it true that it makes treatment because it's a food, not a drug, much more accessible? [00:39:11] Yeah, much more accessible. [00:39:12] And that's the idea behind the Equity of Access program to go to the poorest kids, the neediest kids, the most remote places, and to educate and equip the community health workers so they can help prevent and treat diarrhea. [00:39:26] It's most recently in a very remote area in Guatemala. [00:39:30] The amazing thing to me is curing cancer is going to take time and a lot of money. [00:39:34] This is doable. [00:39:35] Addressing childhood. [00:39:36] We already have the answers here. [00:39:36] Let's start using them. [00:39:37] That's Green. [00:39:38] Thank you very much. [00:39:38] Wonderful advice.
