Toxic mold that can be growing in your home.
All of this leads to bigger problems.
Nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing.
We help you get rid of it.
So it's not just what you see, it's always what you don't see.
Fight back by DIY mold checklist.
And Anna Hart.
YouTube's funniest star opens up about her secret offline health struggles.
My mother is schizophrenia and there was a lot that we went through as a family.
Are you ready to say some lives today?
Yeah!
I love you, DuckDog.
Get comfortable!
Today, the home dangers that can hurt you and your family.
Now, we're starting with toxic mold.
And I hope there's none in this house behind me.
And we get our investigation started with a little experiment.
Toxic mold matters to your health.
I want you to take a look at these symptoms.
Got nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, and skin irritation.
Does that sound familiar to any of you?
Yes, yes.
You got some yeses here?
Yeah, a lot of yeses for good reason.
Well, mold could be the cause and help figure it out for us.
And whether or not that mold could be a problem for you, I've invited host of HGTV's hit show, Rehab Addict, Nicole Curtis, to be here.
Thank you to be here.
You rehab literally hundreds of homes, right?
Maybe more, right?
When you look at a home, how do you know if they've had a mold problem or not?
There's a lot of things, obviously visually, but you can also smell it.
So even when somebody says, oh no, we had our house inspected, there's none.
I can walk in and I'm like, wait, let me check out a few key spots.
And sure enough, I usually find some mold.
And the smell, is it musty, is it earthy?
Well, I would say that it's like your old stuffy cabin.
And the only time you want a home to smell like your old stuffy cabin is when you're at the cabin.
But it can also smell like cat urine is another frequent change.
Cat urine?
Yeah, so if somebody comes in and they're like, mmm, you need to change your litter box, and you're like, we don't have a cat, I would definitely do some investigating.
Good tip.
All right.
The problem with Dr. Mole coming over is that many of us don't even know what it looks like.
I'll give you a couple examples.
I have three pictures here.
I want you to tell me which one you think is mold, all right?
Is this mold?
Don't worry about the drywall falling off.
Just focus on whether or not you think there's mold in this picture.
Or do you think in this image you're looking at mold?
Again, another house in a very different location.
Well, how about that one over there?
How many of you think number one has toxic mold?
How many of you think number two is toxic mold?
How about number three over there?
All right, they seem pretty split to me.
And the answer is?
All of them.
There's no good mold in your house.
So you study this as your day job.
What are the events that predispose a home to have mold?
There's so many different things.
If you have a roof leak, that's an obvious one, right?
Or your basement floods.
But it's also any dark, moist space is going to have mold growing.
And mold actually has roots.
And that's what most people don't understand.
Roots like trees have roots or plants.
That's how it spreads through everything.
So when you see it on the surface, there's so much more there.
And traditionally people will say, oh, bleach it.
But that's simply just cleaning the surface.
So today that's why we're talking about what you do to really get to the root of it to make sure that it doesn't come back.
Let's start.
We got a couple areas.
Typical parts of the home where toxic mold is most likely to grow.
And these are areas that a lot of us are neglecting.
That's why they're so common.
So you pointed out there that the basement's flooded.
Everyone knows that's an issue.
Exactly.
So here we've got a typical window and looking out into my beautiful backyard.
What do I worry about and how do I manage it?
Well, the thing is, is that wherever moisture can get in is where you're going to get it.
And this one we see it right in the corners here.
So if you have windows that have a broken seal or you have a lot of outside exposure that, you know, it faces one thing and they're getting pelted with water, you live in a lake, anything like that.
So first of all, if I saw this in my house, I would do this immediately.
I've had mold problems in my home.
Right.
So I spray it like this, right?
And then I quickly get in there.
And you want to scrub away, right?
Yeah.
Well, this is the biggest mistake people make.
Porous materials, though, you want to let it sit because the porous material will actually have the roots of the mold growing in it, not just on the surface.
So if you have anything, you know, like a wood window here, you want to actually spray it with vinegar, let it sit for about an hour, then you come back and do it.
If it's 50-50, is it work?
It's have to be pure vinegar.
I would do pure vinegar.
That's going to be your strongest fix right there.
I'll come back in an hour to that.
You come back and you keep it clean.
And then once you've had it there, these are places that you want to check all the time.
Because if you didn't do it exactly right, like we scrubbed that too soon, then that's when it's gonna reoccur.
I'll bring this with me.
Next up, bring some extra gloves too.
I hate touching this stuff.
You don't wanna touch the mold for me.
Well, the one place you always have a lot of moisture is your sink.
And avoidable.
Everyone thinks that your kitchen sink is so clean.
Like you're cleaning grates in the strainer, you drop it and eat one.
This is the worst.
And I'm a mom.
I have a 19-year-old now, so I have a toddler.
So I'm all about germs all the time.
And everyone knows, wash their hands, do this.
But if your kitchen sink is dirty, then you're sending everyone to wash their hands and it's just spreading everything everywhere.
If you have your family cleaning in a dirty area, it's really just right.
The same thing, pure vinegar.
Get it out.
I don't have to wait, right?
Because it's not going to be a cleaner.
No, because this is stainless steel, so you can scrub that right away.
But right around the lip of your sink, also if you have an undermount sink, if you have natural stone or any countertops, and then you have the caulking underneath the sink, that is where you're going to find it.
And people often miss that.
You could have your, you know, go through and clean your whole house and you look underneath there.
This is the other spot that just drives me crazy.
When people say, oh no, my house is clean.
I lift this up and right under here, this little spot here.
Oh, but you see that there?
Yes.
You all see that?
Get my vinegar back in here.
There you go.
You can see it.
I'm not leaving home without it.
I'm not leaving home without this.
And these sponges, by the way, we've studied also, you know, you guys always ask me about the sponges?
Yes.
You can't just microwave them.
No, no, they're bad.
Just change the darn sponge.
Okay.
All right, now this is a separate issue.
Let me put this back.
Dishes.
Yeah.
I thought you wash the dishes, you put them away, everyone's going to be happy.
Right?
You argue that's a problem.
Well, it's a huge problem.
Most of us have dishwashers in our home.
If you don't, you probably have someone who is the dishwasher in your home, which should be my teen son, but that never works out, right?
But you take your dishes out of the dishwasher and they still have a little bit of moisture on them.
Yeah, but it's clean.
The habit is you just throw it into your cupboard and you think it's fine.
But as you can see, as you stack them.
You all see the water here?
This is pretty typical.
You all live this yourself.
But I'm saying, it is clean water.
It's clean water, but over time, again, mold just needs a dark, moist spot to grow.
And what have we created once you close the cabinet door?
Dark, moist spot to grow, right?
So always, always clean everything off.
Make sure they are air dry, towel-dried, then I put them away.
All right.
This sort of surprised me.
And I think of the refrigerator as a generally clean fruit.
It's another clean place, right?
You know, nothing's going to grow in the freezer.
And down here, we do clean the inside of our fridge, but you're not worried about the inside of the fridge, although it can be dark and moist.
Well, the inside of the fridge can grow up, but you see that.
So people think of that.
And you definitely don't want anyone opening up your fridge when they come over for dinner and they're like, we don't want to eat.
We'll eat out.
If people come over to your house for dinner and they invite you out to dinner all of a sudden.
It's a bad sign.
It's not a good sign, exactly.
But this is your drip pan underneath.
You know, we always say, like, roll your refrigerator out and clean underneath it.
And then you're always horrified.
I'm a clean freak.
I used to have a cleaning business for years.
Everyone's house has some secret dirt underneath the refrigerator.
I don't care how clean you are.
But the drip pan is actually connected to your refrigerator.
So this is something you actually want to pull out.
It's designed to catch any moisture that comes out of your fridge.
So again, dark, moist spot.
And how often should you pull this drip?
You know, I would make it a habit every time you clean out your fridge.
That's a great thing.
Holiday means anything.
Yes, you can't clean enough.
But this one is really simple.
Something like this, you can do a little dish soap and water right in your kitchen sink and put it back.
Again, make sure it's dry though.
How many of you honestly have never even looked at your drip pan?
I mean, look at the audience.
Now they will, see?
Yes.
I should have asked it the other way.
No one's actually, who's actually cleaned it?
One lady.
There you go.
Literally one person in the audience cleaned the picture.
Okay.
Next pod, it's unbelievable.
Air conditioners.
I know air conditioners are concerning, but I mean, I look at it from the outside.
It looks like this.
I don't think much about it beyond that.
No, this is a huge culprit because, you know, it's summertime.
Everyone turns on their air and then you notice that you're not feeling so great.
Well, when you look up at it, it looks clean.
When the flaps open or you look deeper into your system, all of these units have removable air filters for a reason.
You see this, guys?
For you to be able to clean it, right?
So this is something you can take out, again, wash in your sink with, you know, a little soapy water, air dry it, put it right back in.
Because all of this leads to bigger problems.
If you don't take care of the small ones, you're going to get something like this.
So how do you know when it's time to get a mold inspection?
Well, you've got a big problem.
We're giving you our DIY mold checklist.
So stay with us.
New cancer fighting foods.
These are 10 to 100 times better for your body.
Plus, it has more vitamin C than oranges, has more potassium than bananas.
Move over, kale, see the new super green.
It's a perfect vegetable.
And are you secretly being watched through your computer without knowing it?
I was terrified.
You didn't know how long they had been watching my daughter.
Find out just how easy it is to hack into your most private moments.
All duas.
That's coming up tomorrow.
We are back with our investigation into secret toxic mold that could be growing in your home.
HGTV's rehab addict, Nicole Curtis, she's helping us come up with a DIY mold checklist to figure out if you have a mold problem.
This stuff seems scary, but if you can fix it like you can, it all goes away.
So my go-to test room, Natha, is going to tell us what she's going to do.
She's going to come through this entire episode with us.
She actually found mold in her home last year.
Yeah.
How's it doing now, the house?
Well, the house is good.
I got rid of about two-thirds of it.
Yeah.
Two-thirds?
Yes, I said two-thirds, like, leave me alone.
I'm working on it, okay?
I'm sending Nicole over afterwards.
But yeah, I got rid of about two-thirds of it.
I took care of the one in the bathroom, and I took care of the one by the radiator.
So I'm excited about that.
What's left?
I'm not going to tell you.
I didn't get a checklist for anybody else.
Here's the first question: Is there a musty odor in your home?
So please, just describe what mold really smells like using a connoisseur's language.
Well, I would say it doesn't smell good.
So it's not like walking and you smell fresh apple pie.
If people think your house smells like you have a cat and you don't, I mean, I had this happen in my own house.
They said, you know, you really need to change your litter box.
I'm like, we don't have cats.
And there was a moisture problem where our air conditioning was leaking into the basement.
So it's a smell that isn't normal to your home.
Most of the time, it's water.
It doesn't grow on you.
No, it's definitely not one that you want.
And not the people in the home.
Do you have a cat?
No, I don't have a cat.
Does your house smell like a curry?
No, no, no.
My house does not smell like cat urine.
Newer doesn't have a rain smell either.
Or like a cabin.
You look like a little house of prairie going on.
Oh, yeah, just a little bit.
You know, I got to do it right for you, Doctor High.
Next up, are you having allergic reactions inside your home?
So you told me, Roth, that you were having some issues around this.
And these are, you'll feel like a little stuffiness.
Yeah, yeah, last year I had a little stuffiness when y'all came to my house, but this year it's a little better.
Like I said, I got rid of two-thirds of it.
Come on over here.
We got two more cameras.
Next issue is: have you had past issues with water?
Right?
And ask yourself that.
And I don't know how often you look in the house for water issues, but a lot of folks will recognize when it's a heavy rainstorm, you'll get dripping here and there.
You'll see moisture.
That's what we found in our house.
There's a little bit of moisture in the wall, and I just wrote it off that because it's so small, a little droplet of moisture in the drywall.
You realize that's the tip of the iceberg.
Well, that's just it.
Once water hits something, it spreads.
And once the water, once the mold hits it, as I said, it has roots.
And so it can travel through the drywall and the paint.
And there's so many different symptoms, and people usually just take care of the symptoms of mold.
Water, people probably can pin out, but condensation is more subtle.
And that's the last big tip you have for us.
Well, if there's places in your house where water accumulates, like in a bathroom, when you take a shower and there's water beating up on the mirror and it's coming down your walls, you have to be using things like your bathroom vent.
Bathroom Vet is there mostly for condensation.
Yeah.
And the thing is...
Well, I mean...
See, I thought it was the smell.
There's a win-win there, I guess.
But the thing is, is that you have to keep it running after your shower.
Most people go in, turn it on, jump in the shower, turn the light off, turn the vent off, and they leave.
So I always suggest let your vent run at least 10 minutes after you bathe, after you shower, anytime you have the water running, just so it makes sure, just so you make sure that it clears the air.
You got the one-third left behind in your house?
That's probably it, right?
It's not a smell, though, right?
It's not the one-third left, but you know, to her point, I want to say when I said fix the radiator, we had to take up the entire floor because of the condensation from the radiator that was creating the mold.
So we had to do the entire floor.
It's like, I fixed that.
I'm proud of you.
I'm proud of you.
Thank you.
All right, coming up next.
It's our final question on the checklist, and we're answering it inside someone's home.
You won't want to miss this.
It's in a mission to save your life.
The biggest losers, Bob Harper, with a surprising list of warning signs.
We got a heart risk IQ quiz to help you learn what those are all news.
That's coming up on Friday.
We're back, and it's time to get to the final question on our DIY mold checklist to help you determine if there's a mold problem in your home.
Here's the final clue: Are there any visual spots in known areas?
And this one's very personal for me because last year I noticed one little spot in my wall.
And behind the wall was this.
There's the wall there.
And behind it is that.
You see all that stuff growing up back there?
I had no idea.
One of my kids was complaining about getting wheezing symptoms and feeling stuffy all the time.
And her bedroom was full of this stuff.
So mold can grow behind a wall like I just showed, my home.
You say there's a bigger problem with wallpaper.
Well, the wallpaper most people put in their bathrooms, which again is the place where we have condensation, we have all this moisture.
And if you see the wallpaper start to come off, people just typically clue it back out.
Of course.
Or they'll do something to it.
Glue on there.
And the thing is, is that if that wallpaper is peeling, that means that there's water behind that wall, pushing that wallpaper out.
And wallpaper glue actually acts as like one of the best growth agents for mold.
It loves to spread right up behind it.
Do you have wallpaper in your bathrooms?
Absolutely not.
No.
Think about that next time making a bathroom push.
Now they do make a removable wallpaper.
There are some wallpapers that are actually made for high moisture areas.
So when you are putting a wallpaper in those, make sure that it's rated for areas like a bathroom.
Just leave the wall.
Or just leave it.
Yeah.
So I got one of my viewers who's live via Skype in her bathroom.
And here's the thing.
There's a spot in that bathtub that's concerning her.
We're going to see if this is a visual spot for concern.
Danielle, how are you?
Thanks for letting us invade your bathroom.
And what do you got for us?
Thank you, Dr. Oz.
Thank you, Nicole, for taking my question.
So I have this one problem area along the base of my tub.
And no matter how much me and my husband cough, clean, bleach it, it still keeps reoccurring.
We have a concern for our children, our family, so hopefully, I'm hoping you can help me out and let me know what I can do differently.
All right, so if you show us the spot, I want Nicole to look at it.
Are you ready?
So take it away, Danielle.
You're moving us closer.
Yes.
So here.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, right there.
It's right there.
That's usually the problem area.
It always reoccurs there.
Yeah, I see a little dark spot there.
This is the second brick up.
What do you think about that, Nicole?
Well, this is very typical, Danielle.
So don't feel bad.
And thank you for letting us see your moldy bathroom.
So I think one of the issues, you said you clean with bleach, which bleach is only going to clean the surface of it.
So you're still going to have moldy.
You're kidding me.
No.
No, so vinegar will clean just about 82% of the different mold species out there.
So I always say hit that with full white vinegar.
Most people have in their house.
It's safer than bleach anyway.
It's safer and you're not smelling bleach all day.
But the thing is too, is that once those roots have taken part in there, even if you're cleaning it up and it looks like it's clean, it isn't.
So I would suggest once and for all going through, taking it out with a razor blade.
But the most important thing is, is that letting that tub dry out.
Because if you don't, what happens is that you're actually sealing the moisture in the wall with that new caulk.
So that's probably why you're getting it again and again and again.
Feeding the mold.
Do it right, and I promise you, it'll last you a lot longer.
Daniel, thank you very much.
Let us invade your bathroom.
Take care.
Thank you so much.
Nicole, nice job.
Thank you.
You check around.
Catch Rehab Attic Wednesdays at DIY.
We're going to put this DIY mold checklist on Dr.Oz.com and the Dr. Oz app.
Check them both out.
You'll find out why they're so popular.
Be right back.
Up next, YouTube's funniest star opens up about her secret offline health struggles and how she went from self-hate to reckless optimism.
My next guest is a social media phenomenon with almost 300 million YouTube views.
Hannah Hart of the award-winning web series My Drunk Kitchen is one of the most influential people under age 30, according to Forbes magazine.
And while she's known for sharing and maybe even oversharing online, today she's opening up about the health struggles she kept secret and how to build what she calls reckless optimism.
Hello.
A few years ago I posted a video.
Just me making grilled cheese and drinking.
This is your cooking pan.
Welcome to my drug kitchen.
Then it became a YouTube channel about cooking and creativity and friends.
And that's fun.
But the best part is that you guys got involved.
Hello.
And together we proved that sometimes life gets messy.
That's my jam.
Hannah's here in person.
Not a lot of folks know this.
I was shocked to learn that you actually started putting videos on YouTube because you were lonely.
Oh, yeah, you know, I had just moved from San Francisco to New York, pursuing my career in translation.
That's why I studied English-lit Japanese language.
And I was G-chatting with a friend of mine.
I just gotten this new laptop, and my roommate was kind of down.
And she was like, Man, I miss when you were just like, get drunk and cook, man.
And I was like, dude, I will cook for you right now.
And so I shot a movie in Photo Booth and edited it, edited it in iMovie, and then I put it up on the internet, and a bunch of strangers watched it, and now I'm a star.
Were you drunk when you made that video?
You were.
Yeah, you know, honestly, like, I'm 5'4 and like 125, so it doesn't take a lot.
No, it doesn't take a lot.
It doesn't take a lot.
You've been very open online about the things that you're feeling, but you've kept some things secret.
And in particular, I loved if you would open up a bit about the mental health issues you were struggling with.
Yeah, absolutely.
You know, I like to think of it as not so much secret as private.
I come from a background that's not just my own, it's my family's too, and our story as well.
When I made the choice to write buffering, it was because I felt like I was in a place in my life where I was able to share this.
And it's not something you can share in a four to six minute video.
No, it's really not.
My mother has struggled with her mental health our entire lives.
She has schizophrenia, and there was a lot that we went through as a family that we had no words for and no idea how to communicate about.
And so when I became a public figure, I realized that there was a real ability to share the realities of the mental health system in America and what it does to people and what it does to families, to kind of put a face behind homelessness, like to show what happens, what gets people there.
Let's go back to your being a little girl, your mom's diagnosed with schizophrenia.
What is it like growing up around that?
Well, you know, Diag, it's interesting because we didn't know anything was different than anybody else's life, as most children who come from adverse backgrounds feel.
I didn't realize that our lives were different until I started getting older and going over to other people's houses.
It was, we were in a very loving home, but it was also chaotic.
But she loved us and still loves us.
And did you fear that you would catch schizophrenia?
I put it in quotes on purpose because people sort of subtly believe they can catch illness sometimes.
Well, you know, it's.
Was I worried for my own mental health?
I mean, you have to understand that we were children growing up in our home.
You know, it was our home.
And it wasn't until my little sister was born that I realized that it wasn't a safe environment for children.
And again, my mom always says, and I really believe this, there are no bad guys in this story.
Everybody has their story that got them to this point.
For your life, your problem, your challenge will probably be depression, if I understand correctly.
Which is hard to imagine because you look so cheerful here, but this is very well done, by the way.
Her book Buffering, she mentioned it briefly earlier.
Funny.
It's hard to write a funny book.
And it's hard to write a funny book about serious stuff, which you do touch on.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Yeah, you know, depression is a consequence of a lot of children from adverse childhood experiences.
I didn't understand it was depression at the time.
I made a video called Depression in Under Two Minutes to try and show people what it feels like when you're depressed.
It's like a lead jacket.
A lead jacket.
Yeah, you know, it makes everything harder and heavier.
So you actually started treating yourself a bit by developing this approach towards reckless optimism.
Yeah.
Explain that.
How do you get into a reckless, optimistic state?
You know, I like to think of it like optimism sometimes feels too naive for me.
I've lived my life by being very aware of my surroundings, hyper-aware, in fact, and making the choice to believe that it's going to work is based on accepting the reality that it might not.
Like, a good example is if you're waiting for your luggage and baggage claim and it's not coming out, it's not coming out.
Everyone's bags came, they're gone now.
And optimism to me is like, my bag's going to come.
I'll just keep waiting.
Reckless optimism is, oh man, my bag's probably not here.
Nah, we'll have a good weekend anyway and the airport will bring it.
Okay, let's go.
Let's move on.
You know, it's understanding your circumstance, accepting your circumstance, and making the cognitive choice to be positive about it.
Calmness in the face of adversity.
Thank you.
So, since you brought so much joy to us, I thought I'd give you a little surprise.
This is actually a double surprise.
Is that okay?
Yeah.
So Kaylee is someone you don't know yet, but she's gonna have a big time surprise.
And I think she'll surprise you with her surprise.
She says that you've had a massive impact on her life.
Wow.
And she wanted to meet you for inspiration.
Now, she thinks she's coming out here to talk to me about YouTube stars.
She doesn't know we have the biggest one sitting next to me.
Oh my God.
You want to meet her?
Yes.
All right.
Kaylee, come on out.
Thanks for you, too.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm sorry.
I love surprising people.
I'm very excited.
Come on over here.
Come on, meet you.
Let me cuddle with you a little bit.
Take care.
So what do you think about having Hannah sitting next to you there?
I'm shaking.
Look at me.
I'm so excited.
Hi.
Hi, I can't.
Where are you from?
South America, New Jersey.
Ooh.
Yes, yes.
So just over there.
Just over the pond there.
So when she thought it was me, she was very calm and collected.
As soon as she finds out you're here, it changes everything.
So what do you want to say to Hannah?
What kind of inspiration is she giving you?
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, just put you on this.
Well, you are a huge inspiration just from your journey.
You never hid who you were and your identity, and you just were positive and outgoing from the start.
And you got me hooked.
You got me hooked from the beginning.
So thank you for that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You helped me.
For my entire life, my entire career.
Everything that's happening is because of people like you that have helped support me.
And you've given me the chance to not only share my you've given me the chance to share my story and to every person that says that I've helped them, I want you to know that you have also helped them.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Feels pretty good, doesn't it?
Feels really good.
When you have someone who adores you or appreciates your openness, how does it make you feel?
It makes me feel pretty great, Dr. Robin.
Pretty great?
Yeah.
You don't always hear it.
No, I mean, I think that what is so incredible about this kind of time that we're living in in that we can connect with each other authentically.
We don't need artifice or to be superficial or to be fake.
What we need to do is start listening to each other and start talking to each other.
And so, yeah, let's clap to that.
All right, on that way to keep talking.
When we come back, Hannah shares one of the hottest internet health trends out there.
She has tried it, so you don't have to.
Stick around.
New kids are fighting foods.
These are 10 to 100 times better for your body.
Plus, it has more vitamin C than oranges, has more potassium than bananas.
Move over, Kale.
See the new super green.
It's a perfect vegetable.
And are you secretly being watched through your computer without knowing it?
I was terrified.
I didn't know how long they had been watching my daughter.
Find out just how easy it is to hack into your most private moments.
All you eyes.
That's coming up tomorrow.
You're very bold with your lobster grabbing.
So this one we're going to throw back.
Why don't you go ahead and grab him right on his back behind the claws and just drop him nice and easy over the side?
Sounds good.
Sounds good to me.
I can do this.
Goodbye.
How brave she is.
We're back with YouTube star and Food Network's newest host, Hannah Hart.
She is sharing what's happened in her life.
And most importantly, we're going to talk about this little experiment you did.
She actually tried the latest skincare trend that's blown up on the internet.
Peel off DIY face masks.
Spoiler alert, as often happens with you, didn't go so well.
Take a look.
So I don't actually know what a blank head is, but let's just make a mask because making a glue mask seems like a lot of fun.
So put it on a small area to make sure it doesn't hurt.
Ooh, this is kind of cool.
Is there any burning?
No.
Okay, let's just keep going.
Well, you did ask a question.
Is this burning yet?
Is it burning?
You know, you just want to know if it's going to burn.
To be honest, I really almost peeled off my eyebrow, I think.
Definitely, if you're ever doing a DIY at home mask, try not to put it directly on your eyebrows if you plan to keep them.
This part's missing.
Right over here is missing a little bit.
Oh, yeah.
Well, you know, we fill it in.
What gave you the idea?
Charcoal, glue, and peppermint oil.
Why would you put that on your face?
Because other people on the internet did it.
There you have it.
People like you.
People like me.
I don't know.
It seemed like something good to try.
I mean, it felt pretty good.
And I peeled it off, and my face was still there.
So when, when?
Well, here's the idea, right?
I mean, it sort of makes sense, right?
You take some glue, I put it on my face, I can imagine it's sucking the blackheads right out.
Yeah, exactly.
It's science.
Yeah, it doesn't work, does it?
No, it's never been proven to work.
It's fascinating people come up with these ideas.
They make pseudo-pseudo-sense, but when you actually try them out, they don't work.
I have a better idea for you.
Okay.
I'm going to change your life today.
Okay, I'm ready.
My face mask actually has been demonstrated to work.
That peel-off masks that will actually help you get rid of some of the black heads, eliminate some of the problems people always complaining about.
You're going to mix together three eggs, whites, that is, right?
The three egg whites will help get into those little pores and tighten them up.
You're going to get some lemon.
It's an astringent, and a teaspoon of honey.
You can actually eat this if you wanted, by the way.
And look at the texture.
Isn't this interesting?
Like a little meringue.
It's like a little meringue.
Wow, that makes me immediately want to put it on my face.
Oh, well, funny you should say that.
May I apply my surgical technique to your face?
Yes.
Here, put this bib on you.
Okay.
Okay.
I wouldn't be.
There we are.
I feel like I'm getting a shave at a barber shop.
Yeah, that's right.
Actually, you could go on like a shave.
Now, is it burning yet?
No, and it has a lovely scent.
Yes.
And flavor.
Oh, you're really going for it, Dr. Oz.
I want you to look your best.
You look like Santa Claus now.
Thank you.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
So how does it feel?
How does it compare to your charcoal mask that you were trying to throw my way?
Well, I hate to have egg on my face.
Oh, oh, she'll be here all week.
Hannah will be here all week.
Try this porn beef.
It feels a lot better, but it doesn't look as cool as the charcoal mask.
That's for real, right?
No, it doesn't look as cool.
But this feels good.
It does make a lot more sense to have natural ingredients involved in anything with skincare.
I'm trying to take myself seriously, but I know what I look like.
What an angel she is.
All right.
And Hannah's YouTube channel is unbelievable.
So you'll see it everywhere you want.
Thank you very much.
Your book is fantastic.
For everybody who hasn't read it yet, Glad and Get.
It's called Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded.
And today, guess what, audience?
Everybody here is going home with a copy.
Enjoy it.
I told you.
I don't want to get any eggs.
It's really a pleasure.
Only on Dr. Oz.
A new season of True Crime Tuesdays.
New evidence surrounding the cases you've obsessed about.
She heard him cry in pain as he was dying.
And this season, True Crime Thursdays.
Deadly and tainted alcohol.
They're robbed, raped, or they're killed.
True Crime Tuesdays.
And now, Thursdays only on Dr. Oz.
Excited because today kicks off a worldwide event that will change someone's life while helping you get fitter, stronger, and healthier.
Because I am scouring and searching for undiscovered fitness stars who have the talent and motivation to transform you right here on my show.
With my trusted sponsorship partner, USANA Health Sciences, we are launching a contest to find the next great trainers.
It's a big deal.
And we're going to find two trainers.
One's going to be a part of my show, and the other is going to come from the thousands of people that work in the USANA family.
Now, I don't want to waste any time just talking about it.
I'm going to let you meet the judges this minute.
The first one, she's a celebrity personal trainer, former U.S. Marine, and USANA's fitness ambassador, Aaron Opria.
Come on out, Aaron.
Our next judge is a five-time world champion boxer and USANA ambassador, Tim Bradley.
Come on out.
Oh!
Oh!
You already know, man.
I like this.
Erin, thank you very much, Sergas.
Let me just hold for one second, please.
It's so much heavier than you would expect.
Can I keep this?
No, you got to fight before it.
You're going in the rink next.
The last time you heard, you didn't have this yet.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
I appreciate it.
I'm so happy for you.
I don't want to drop this.
No, don't drop it.
So, Aaron, Tim, and I, we're all going to be judging this contest together.
So, we're the ones you have to influence.
So, let's go through the criteria.
Why is it so important for USANA to be part of this, Aaron?
So, USANA cares about everybody's health.
So, right now, they want to strive for looking for the best person that's striving to be the best them.
And you're going to teach us all that's one of the criteria.
Tim, for poacher at home, why should they care a lot about this contest?
Well, everyone gets to vote at home, and they get to be a part of this.
And they also, the winner of the contest would actually be posting plans and videos on so that everybody at home can try it.
So, you can look like this.
See this?
You can look like this.
Wow, look at this.
It's easy to do.
And you control it, it's your power.
So we posted the contest all over social media to kick it all off.
And my friends, the candidates are already pouring in.
Take a look.
Dr. Oz, I'm your next great trainer.
I'm your next great trainer.
I'm your next great trainer.
I'm going to be your next great trainer and make you a part of the gun squad.
We've scoured the globe and received submissions from hundreds of trainers.
I live in O'Callo, Florida.
I'm from Philadelphia, PA.
I'm from Sparta, New Jersey.
I'm here in Phoenix, Arizona.
All telling us why they should be the next great trainer.
Because just like you, I have a deep desire to see people thrive.
Because I can motivate and inspire you.
Because I'm passionate about making training a holistic experience.
My mission is to inspire women and men from around the world to become the strongest version of themselves from the inside out.
They've shared with us their personal fitness mottos.
My motto is progress, not perfection.
Tough times do make tough people.
Only compete with yourself to become the best version of yourself.
Movement is medicine.
Trust in the process.
And how they've motivated their clients to change for the better.
One of my biggest inspirational and motivational success stories, he came to me just three months ago and lost over 44 pounds.
I get emotional.
Literally, I'm so invested in my clients.
I have people who are winning the daily battle against depression.
They've even shown us their signature moves.
It's called Under the Fence.
I'm going to extend my leg, let go, and that the gate game.
My signature move is a squat kick kick.
My signature move is tedible swing into an overhead snatch.
Today, which one of these fitness gurus has what it takes to be the next great trainer?
All right, y'all love it.
The submissions are rolling in and it's not too late for you to enter.
Now's the time to do it.
So Tim, what makes someone stand out for you as a great trainer?
First of all, you need to have experience.
Experience is a big factor.
You need to know what you're doing.
Secondly, you need to know how to be knowledgeable about nutrition.
If you're not knowledgeable about nutrition, what are you training for?
You know, a lot of people want to be able to drop weight, look good, drop body fat, and walk around with confidence.
And so I would also say motivation.
You got to be able to instill confidence in their clients and also decrease body fat.
And I would say the last thing, not least, is increase energy in someone.
That's the number one thing most folks actually want.
Just to be able to do more with what they got, which is what this is about.
Aaron, attributes you're looking for is that that's one of the judges who will make the big decision.
So my number one thing is passion.
Clients can see right through it.
If you're not passionate about what you're doing, they will know.
So I'm looking for someone that just has it.
You can just see it coming out of them.
I'm looking for someone that doesn't do cookie cut or training sessions, someone that's more knowledgeable to train all different kinds of clients because it's not one workout fits all.
Of course, you have to be knowledgeable about fitness.
That's super important.
And then you just have to love what you're doing and be able to connect to a client more on a mental level too, because then they'll open up to you.
If you can get someone to open up to you, and that's when you break into them and they start changing.
They want to change.
You could just, like during sessions, you just get them to open up.
And they're like, I can do this.
And you just motivate them on a mental level.
All right, so everyone wants to know the secrets of their trainers, how they actually get to look like you guys look.
You know what?
I feel like it starts in the morning and then it goes on all day.
If you start your day off right, you're able to continue it.
It makes you crave the good stuff.
So in the morning, I start my day with a bowl of oatmeal, egg whites, and berries every day.
And then I go to my shot of beet juice and lemons.
And from there, I do my multivitamin, which is self-central.
Cell Centrals is like an amped up multivitamin.
It has an instelligent science.
So come on over here.
You guys are trainers.
You're going to teach us one simple move each.
The best move that all America has to know.
You up for it?
Yeah.
Of course.
So one of my favorite moves, we're going to do squat into a lunge.
So we're right here.
We're going to stand on our left foot, tap our right toe, keep our chest up, come all the way down into a squat, take it back for a lunge without fully standing.
Come in, squat, lunge.
Stop standing.
Say low.
Oh, yeah.
That's the burning, baby.
Burning.
Tim's loving it.
Make sure we go round your back.
Oh, yeah.
There we go.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, and then you can add weight to that if you get more advanced.
All right.
Actually, you know, even in the five I did, I feel bad because we didn't come up all the way.
Tim, show me how to do what you do so well.
We were boxing the other day, by the way.
He caught me right here.
I never saw a hit make.
Never saw it.
Superman push-ups.
We're going to walk with him, all right?
You're going to drop down.
What makes him Superman?
Oh, my goodness.
You just walk with him.
Oh, you move each time.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh.
All right, you guys keep going.
Aaron and Tim know exactly what it takes to be the next great trainer.
But could it be you?
You want to hear from all the talented people out there who are ready to inspire the rest of the world.
Keep going, Tim.
You're almost there.
The question is, what are you waiting for?
Head to Dr.Oz.com to learn more ahead of now.
Later this season, we're going to be announcing the winners.
And that's not all.
To help everyone get healthy and fit, thanks to my trusted sponsorship partner, USANA Health Sciences.
I want you to go to Droz.com and enter for a chance to win one of a thousand bottles of Celsentials.
Now, what about the audience?
What about the audience?
Should they get some?
Everyone goes home with one.
You're all going home, home audience.
You all go home with a bottle of Selcentrals.
Enjoy it and share it.
We'll be right back.
Next up.
Is it a mission to save your life?
The biggest losers, Bob Harper, with a surprising list of warning signs.
We've got a heart risk IQ quiz to help you learn what those are all news.
That's coming up on Friday.
BuzzFeed nifty.
Now, I want you to tell green tea to move over.
Everyone is freaking out about butterfly blue pea tea.
Pictures of blue tea drinks are all over the internet.
You've probably seen them.
Lisa sitting next to me on the stairs here.
I've been sipping on some blue tea.
You started off very slow, but you're getting seemingly more excited about it.
Yeah.
In the beginning, I expected it to be a little fruitier, I guess, due to the color, but it has a nice tint of sweetness.
It sort of has a woodsy flavor to me with just a whisper of sweetness.
Yeah.
Coming over the end.
I'm going to show you something really cool, though.
So this looks blue like it came out of a Kool-Aid box, but in fairness, it is all natural.
It comes from these little herbs and flower bits here.
And this is sort of cool.
These dried flowers naturally give off that blue.
You saw that in the little video.
Tea is extremely popular in Southeast Asia for a reason.
They drink it to protect against aging.
Some of the longest-lived populations in the world are there, so we might want to pay attention.
It's caffeine-free, but this is the paradigmos.
The colors change differently depending on what you mix it with.
So these flowers are a little bit alkaline, and this lemon juice is a little bit acidic.
So this is going to be fun.
Are you ready?
Sure.
Get a shot here.
You can pour yours too.
Are you ready to go?
Eye-popping changes in front of us.
Look at that.
Wow.
Whoa.
Now we're impressed.
And it tastes changes completely as well.
So I'll toast you on the lemon juice and on the tea.
