I'm a little choked up.
I'm sorry.
Today.
It's been a year of some big ups and downs.
Yeah.
The interview you'll be talking about tomorrow.
There's always a challenge when you have the kinds of tragedy you've lived through.
Raw.
Real.
Emotional.
I've been holding up with God taking away some of those blessings you've had.
I damn near came close to giving up.
Coming up next.
We'll save lives today.
day.
You guys ready to get healthy?
Today's show is about the power of resilience to get you through life's ups and downs.
And nobody knows more about this than singer Bobby Brown.
In the past three years, he's endured the passing of his ex-wife, Whitney Houston, and just recently, their daughter, Bobby Christina.
Today, he's here to reveal what it's been like to grieve for her and heal.
Then, we'll meet a woman with a very unusual way of helping people find their inner resilience after great loss.
She's a Long Island high school teacher who says she communicates with the dead.
And on a lighter note, a delicious and healthy way of making meals to feed your soul and make you more resilient throughout the day.
But first, we begin with music superstar Bobby Brown.
For Bobby, this past year has been filled with great joy.
And tremendous pain.
Throughout it all, he has worked hard to maintain his own health.
He welcomed a healthy and beautiful baby girl named Bodhi.
There she is.
But just weeks later, his beloved daughter, Bobbi Christina, died after spending months on life support.
Her passing was eerily similar to her mother's, Whitney Houston.
Bobby Brown was one of the brightest lights of the R&B scene in the late 80s and early 90s.
A star from the age of 14, as a co-founder of the boy band New Edition, by 17, Bobby was already on his own as a solo artist.
At the height of his career, in 1992, Bobby married another superstar, Whitney Houston, and their daughter, Bobby Christina, was born in 1993. But from the start, rumors of strife and domestic violence plagued Bobby and Whitney's marriage.
The tabloids also relentlessly covered the couple's struggles with alcohol and drug abuse.
Finally, in 2007, their tumultuous marriage ended in divorce.
Just a few months after Whitney Houston's accidental death in 2012, Bobby married Alicia Etheridge.
Tragedy struck again this past year with the death of Bobby and Whitney's daughter, Bobby Christina.
Bobby Christina's death remains under investigation and a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Bobby Christina's estate accusing her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, of wrongful death.
The one bright spot for Bobby this year?
A happy and fulfilling new life with wife Alicia and their two children, son Cassius and daughter Bodhi, born just weeks before Bobby Christina's death.
Thank you for being here today.
Thank you for having us.
It's been a year of some big ups and downs.
Let's start with the ups first.
The beautiful little baby girl, Bodhi.
Yes.
How's she doing?
She's doing wonderful.
Thank you for asking.
She's doing wonderful.
She's amazing.
So the word Bodhi, I do a lot of yoga and I've always been interested in other cultures.
So you picked a name that means enlightenment.
Enlightenment.
Yes.
This past year, how has enlightenment entered into your life?
Through Bodie's eyes.
Through her eyes, I can see, you know, my daughter, you know, Bobby Christina.
I see all my kids in her eyes, and I'm just grateful to have, you know, life.
But I have love in my life, and that's the greatest part of life is love.
We all process stress differently in our lives, but it does tend to seep through into our bodies one way or the other.
Anish, I know you wanted to be here in part because you've got concerns for the man that you love, and particularly about his health.
How's that going?
It's going well.
It's a day-by-day process, of course.
I love him, so I want him to be here with me for a very long time.
She wants to lose weight.
She's very polite.
It's good.
We're hiking.
We're swimming.
I try to get him out there dancing.
We love to do it.
So anything he enjoys like that to keep him moving is always a good thing.
So I want to make sure that heart is doing its work.
So doctors listen to subtle things that they hear.
You said, she's worried about my weight.
Are you worried about your weight as well?
Well, I've lost a lot of weight in the last few months.
I was bigger than I am right now.
Yeah.
You're going in the right direction.
I'm going in the right direction.
How much have you lost so far?
About 20 pounds.
So, stress keeps its eyes into our lives in very different ways.
You've been very open, and I treasure the fact that you are, about your past issues with addiction.
Yes.
And yet there's always a challenge when you have the kinds of tragedy you've lived through that you'll end up struggling as well and it'll come back on you.
No.
I'm 17 years clean and I continue to remain that way.
Lamar Odom, you've been following his story.
Yeah.
Help me understand what you think was going through the mind of someone like that, a superstar like you.
I could not even imagine, you know, what he's going through.
I just wish him the best, you know, and I just, I want him to know that he has people out here that are thinking about him.
And, um...
I'm here for him, you know, to recover from this nasty disease.
I mean, it's definitely a nasty disease.
And I just love you, brother.
My heart goes out to you.
So what advice would you give to Khloe Kardashian as she tries to be supportive?
Just love them.
Yeah.
Yeah, just be there.
Be honest with him.
Sometimes, you know, for people, it's very hard because you don't want to hurt your loved one's feelings.
But, you know, you got to talk straight.
You know, when they're in denial or when they're not being honest about things, you know, it's hard, but it's, you know, when you love somebody, it's worth speaking up about.
Yeah, definitely.
So, Alicia, as you've been the love of Bobby's life and helping him through the difficult times, yours bigger than most these years, but, you know, we've all lived through these experiences.
Right.
How do you make sure you're there when you think his sobriety might be at risk?
How do I make sure?
Yeah, it's just natural to be there.
I don't want to leave them when it gets hard.
You know, that's not love.
But, you know, sometimes it's tough, of course, you know.
You know, you get frustrated, exhausted, you know.
But love always comes through, so you just find the strength.
You know, with faith in God and my family support, you know.
Lots of prayers.
I can lean on.
Lots of prayer.
Praying, you know.
That's the main thing for me.
I pray a lot.
I think about what I should do other than what I want to do.
And my should is always the right way to go, so I stay with the should.
I should do this.
Break that down, and there's a reason for this.
We're doing a lot this year to get folks to realize that recovery is real.
Oh, yeah.
In fact, we've got a whole program that's going to get America talking about it at night.
You've already been picked the evening, November 19th.
Okay.
But I want to understand what advice you would give.
Your family.
About the struggle you just described between the should and ought to and could and...
Be honest.
Be honest with yourself and be honest with your loved ones.
Are there things you know now That you could have called upon these things five years ago.
What would you have told Bobby Brown?
Young Bobby Brown.
Young Bobby Brown.
Don't do it.
I've had so many...
Thank you.
I've had so many times in my life where, you know, things were just wrecked.
And I was able to stand on my two feet and get myself together.
So there's nothing I think that can't be done in life for me.
I work hard every day on myself, so that's how I am.
You know, I just work on myself and try to be a better person at all times.
And again, love is the one thing that can cure anything.
So you're working hard to create a legacy.
Yes.
For your daughter.
You created this wonderful foundation.
It's called Bobby Christina's Serenity House.
PK. Tell us about that.
PK Serenity House is a place where, you know...
Young women, older women can go, can come to and have a safe haven, have a safe place to be, you know, when they're in abusive relationships.
Excuse me.
We just, yeah, we wanted to create that safe place for them.
Yeah.
So that they don't have to stay in these abusive relationships.
Right.
Right.
She can explain it better with me.
Oh, it's okay.
I'm a little choked up.
I'm sorry.
Don't be sorry.
I have no idea how you hold yourself together.
It's also, for us, a tool to help us go through this, you know?
We need to put our energy into something that we feel is in honor of Bobby Christina, you know?
And hopefully...
Help other women not to be in the position or to have loss as we have in this past year.
How would it have changed Bobbi Kristina's life if this already existed?
I don't know.
I couldn't answer that.
I can only help another person.
Other women in this world that go through it.
That's all I can do.
We've got a lot of people who love you here.
Thank you.
They're yelling out, I know it's difficult.
We'll be right back with Bobby and Alicia.
Later, from the fridge to the crockpot.
Delicious dinners that save time and money.
All prepped and ready to go.
You bag them and we're trying them.
The healthiest meals in a Ziploc.
It was hands down unbelievably a favorite.
Coming up.
A Dr. Oz investigation.
If pain meds are the gateway to addiction, why is it so easy to get them?
For that, I've had Percocet.
Is that a possibility for this?
We go undercover to see just how easy it is.
Plus, actress Mackenzie Phillips gets real.
You go from these prescribed opioid medications, the doctor cuts you off.
It's not a far jump from there to smoking some heroin.
Are we all one prescription away from being hooked?
All new Oz.
I insist on recovering out loud.
That's coming up tomorrow.
We are back with Bobby Brown and his beautiful wife, Alicia.
Now, Bobby Brown is known for blowing up the music charts and commanding intention on the stage, but he said this himself, he might be a better chef than a performer.
Is that possible?
I don't know.
We're going to tell today.
How's that?
We're going to find out today.
We're definitely going to find out.
I think stage is my first love.
But my second love is cooking.
Are you going back to make some more albums?
Yes, yes, definitely.
I have to.
I have to.
Yeah, it's therapeutic.
Yes, it is.
Speaking of therapy.
So there's books, there's albums, there's movies, there's so much that I want to do.
So, you know, I'm just trying to stay busy as possible.
So food's used for comfort for many people for good reasons.
You started at an early age learning how to cook.
Yeah, my mom would make me stay in the kitchen with her and chop things and, you know, put different spices together.
And I was just like, you know, I was always intrigued with cooking.
All right, so I guess you heard about this, but I just am a huge fan of barbecue, any kind of barbecue.
Okay.
But you made a little barbecue specialty here that I want you to share with us.
Okay, I finally get the chance to wear, you know, the purple gloves.
Okay.
Years of waiting.
Always wanted to be a doctor.
That's a scary thought.
Shaky hands.
You said shaky hands?
I got shaky hands.
She knows it.
I can't even put on gloves right.
You got it.
But these are ribs.
They're already cooked, but my seasoning, my sauces are incredible.
You got the sweet and spicy, you have the original, but also the fact of my seasonings right here.
The Boston blend, the everyday seasoning, you can taste that.
It has a kick.
It has a kick, so watch out.
Oh, it's good.
It's the right kind of kick.
Okay.
It's the right kind.
He makes all this in our kitchen, like from scratch, and it's just amazing.
All of our friends and family, they just love when Bobby starts barbecuing.
I'm thinking it was done in my dressing room afterwards, just so you know.
Okay.
This is the specialty.
This is what I want to talk about.
I love those ribs for taste, but this is the part that means they found me together.
Yeah.
And you talk about food, and it's about family.
Yes, it is.
And faith, as you mentioned.
And love.
So we put, this is for fried chicken now.
This is for fried chicken.
We call it, I call it brown bagging it.
And it's simple.
It's a four-step process.
Make sure you have clean chicken.
Clean chicken.
And all you do is put it in the bag.
Put it in the bag.
He loves his purple gloves.
You put the seasoning in the bag.
I love his purple gloves.
You put the seasoning...
Well, the seasoning...
Thank you.
The seasoning, it comes in the package.
So it already has the brown...
Seasonings in it, along with some flour.
Can you do it with some rhythm?
It's all natural.
Yeah.
Shake it out.
All natural.
You sing while you're doing this, usually?
You know what?
I try not to sing when I'm in the kitchen.
Why?
I don't know.
It does something to me.
And then stick it in the hot oil.
Something good or something bad?
No, just, you know, if I start dancing...
That's just not a good look.
So, when it comes to the top, three minutes later, five minutes later, you're ready to do it.
About seven minutes later, it'll float to the top, and that's when you know it's done.
All right, so here's the deal.
I want to have an expert, a true expert, taste test this for us.
Okay.
So I've borrowed someone who has your taste buds.
Okay.
Cassius is in the house.
Come on out, Cassius.
Bobby Alicia's son.
Say hi.
So, Cassius?
Now, you're in first grade, is that right?
Do they give you fried chicken in first grade?
They don't.
Do you want to try?
Well, this is going to be a treat for you, then.
Does your father dance in the kitchen sometimes?
Mm-hmm.
He does?
How's that chicken?
And does he cook well?
Good.
Yeah.
Big board here.
Chicken, give me a scale of one to ten.
What is it?
Ten.
Ten!
Ten!
Give me a ten!
All right, guys.
It's been a real blessing to have you on the show.
Thank you so much, Doctor.
If I can be of help, you'll let me know.
I will.
I know it's hard, but a lot of folks are praying for you.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All right, guys.
We'll be right back.
- Yeah, let's take it around. - Later, by day, she's a high school English teacher.
And by night, a psychic medium.
Helping people communicate with the dead.
Death is not an end.
It is a doorway.
How she helped put an end to one of my staff members' terrorizing ordeal.
Coming up.
Well, you can stop worrying about what to make for dinner, because tonight we have dinner in the bag.
Literally.
Three of my viewers say plastic bag meals to use in a crock pot are a game changer for getting cheap, easy, and healthy meals on the table and fast.
So I had a member of my medical team analyze their recipes, meticulously going through every little ingredient.
There's Ima.
She gave me the stats.
So we're going to give you the slow cooker meal that you've been waiting for.
I actually have the winner's name inside this crock pot.
Are you ready?
Yes.
All my contestants.
Yes.
Nervous?
Anxious?
Excited!
Did you work hard on your recipes?
Of course!
Drum roll piece!
The winner's name in this crockpot is...
Boom!
Margaret!
The winner's Margaret!
- The winner's Margaret, the winner's Margaret. - - Oh my God.
I'm glad I can jump.
I'm so happy!
You're a very good winner, Margaret.
Thank you!
All right, so let's talk about what's in your crockpot.
The reason I loved it so much is we went through the nutrients.
This is how yours measured up.
These are all the ingredients, right?
Calories less than 500, which is fantastic for a meal.
Fat, 19 grams.
It's the right kind of fat, by the way.
Fiber, 3 grams.
54 grams of protein.
And these are just unbelievable.
And it has over a quarter of the iron that you want.
So over here, I have all the ingredients.
Yes.
And I put together a couple of them to simplify stuff.
So tell me exactly how you do this.
Okay, so I take the meat and I put it right inside the bag.
And this is flank steak, by the way.
And then you put the soy sauce, the low-sodium teriyaki sauce, the garlic flakes, and then the...
Broccoli.
What a show-off.
Fresh broccoli.
What a show-off broccoli.
Broccoli.
This is how you win competitions, by the way.
That's right.
And then the ingredients, which is brown sugar, red peppers, and then minced garlic.
You can smell the garlic from here.
And then that's it, right?
You mix this up.
You store it.
And a little bit of cornstarch to thicken it up a little bit.
I put the cornstarch in the fluids.
Then this all gets dumped in here on your way to work.
Put the top on here.
And when you get home, it looks like this.
Now, I'll taste this if you go to break, but I've already had this tasted by members of the medical unit because they cheated.
They actually tasted it.
It was hands down unbelievably a favorite.
Congratulations.
Smurgish recipe for the delicious slow-cooked meal.
If you're waiting for it, it'll be on my Facebook page on dros.com.
All right, we'll be right back.
Later, constipation problems?
We've got a next-level gadget that could be the answer you've been waiting for.
Then, don't know if you should keep or toss?
Have you worn it in the last six months?
My Simple Guide to Cleaning Out Your Closet, coming up.
A Dr. Oz investigation.
Hello.
If pain meds are the gateway to addiction, why is it so easy to get them?
For that, I've had Percocet.
Is that a possibility for this?
We go undercover.
That's coming up tomorrow.
It was through resilience and strength that the woman you're about to meet found her own purpose in life, which is to help others find theirs, she says, by communicating with the dead.
Her name is Laura Lynn Jackson.
By day, she's a high school literature teacher.
But by night, she's a psychic medium, connecting people with loved ones that have passed.
From an early age, I knew I was different.
I didn't know the term psychic at the time, but I knew that I would feel people's emotions.
I knew when people I loved were going to die.
At age 11, I confessed to my mother and I was a little worried about how she would react, but she told me that this was a gift that I had.
I'm a psychic and I'm a medium.
So what that means is, as a psychic, when I'm in crowded places with a lot of people around, I'm constantly perceiving all that energy swirling around me and picking up on events and information.
As a medium, it also means I'm connecting to loved ones who have crossed to the other side, people who have died.
I'm going to tell you a little bit about what a reading with me is like.
When I read people, it's a beautiful experience.
And I've never had anybody walk away frightened or uncomfortable.
For the past 20 years, I've been leading a secret double life.
By day, I would teach high school English, and in the afternoons and the evenings, I would come home and I would do my psychic mediumship readings.
Once I was outed, the people I was working with were loving and supportive, and so that really gave me permission to swim even farther into doing this work.
Death is not an end.
It is a doorway.
And everything that I've learned shows me that relationships with our loved ones, once they cross over, continue.
Lauren Jackson is here.
So I'm fascinated by this double life that you are living.
You're an English teacher and a psychic medium.
So as a teacher, I can tell you're always probing, always trying to figure out why this is happening to you.
So you actually did something that I was sort of surprised by.
You went and got studied by psychologists and scientists.
Why did you decide to take that step?
That's a great question.
For me, coming to terms with my abilities was a struggle.
I went to a psychiatrist at one point to make sure I wasn't crazy, and he told me, no, I wasn't.
This universe was bigger than all of us could understand.
So then I did try and find scientists, and there are scientists who study this, and so they gave me a quintuple-blinded test to make sure that the information I was receiving was accurate and legitimate and I wasn't using any fraudulent means.
And once I passed that test, I was able to work with scientists to try and figure out the how.
So it's been fascinating for me to get some answers about how my brain is working.
Let's show everyone one of these tests.
Again, I'm continually struggling with this because it's not something we ever learn about in medical school.
I struggle just understanding this if it's impossible.
So this is a scan.
It's actually a compilation from an EEG study where you put those electrodes in your head.
And since you're actually a teacher, I'll let you teach the audience, but just to orient you, there are the two ears, the nose is up there, and the green is the middle because the green means that nothing changed from when you're just having normal conversation, in your case, to the measurements that were done when you're actually doing one of your therapies, you're connecting.
And so blue means there's a lot less activity, and this red area here means a lot more activity.
So what was actually going on?
Right, so this was fascinating for me to find out because when I read I get this kind of inner screen that goes on in my mind and all my mediumship always comes through on the right hand side.
So this illustration compares my just normal resting brain with my brain when I do mediumship work and what the scientists found is that the entire frontal lobe of my brain, the brainwave activity, quiets down completely there and that shows in the blue its decreased activity.
And this really interesting part in the back left-hand side of my brain lights up.
The frontal part, that's where our analytical thinking goes on, our critical thinking skills, our math, our language, all of that.
So there's some way that I'm managing to quiet down my brain and turn on some switch that enables me to turn over and receive information.
So again, it doesn't prove that mediumship is real, I just want to be honest with you.
Right, yes.
But it does show that something's happening.
Right, that what I'm experiencing is happening.
Reflected there.
And we see changes, not exactly like this, but with meditation and with prayer and other approaches that take us away from our day-to-day life.
Yes.
But I'm still a skeptic.
And the reason I invited you on, as you know, I'm going to show this to everybody, is there's a member of my staff who I'm very close to.
I spent a lot of time with her.
I trust her a lot.
She was here from the very beginning.
She also happens to be one of the most skeptical people that I know, which said something.
So she actually reached out to Laura independent of any knowledge of this show.
And what happened to her amazed me.
I always questioned whether or not spirits truly existed.
But then it happened to me.
It all started with banging and knocking noises on my bedroom door in the middle of the night.
After a few nights, I knew something was wrong, but I chose to ignore it.
Then one night, I'm deep asleep, and suddenly I wake up, and I see a petite woman crouched next to my bed.
She has short blonde hair, heart-shaped face, and she's smiling at me, but in a mocking kind of way.
And at that moment, I feel paralyzed, not just from fear, but I literally couldn't move, as if she had invaded my body.
Then my husband turns on the light, and then I'm free.
I was able to move again.
Then the next morning, I realize I have to put an end to this, and that I needed the help of a psychic.
A friend of mine puts me in touch with Laura Lynn Jackson, and she and her husband Garrett agree to come and help me.
She immediately senses that there's a spirit in the house and Garrett tries to determine if there's a presence there by using a scientific device called an electromagnetic field detector that measures the energy levels in a room.
I'm watching Laura channel the spirit and Garrett's asking the questions.
He says, if you want to make your presence known, make all the lights on this EMF detector go on.
Then all of a sudden every light goes on and I'm blown away because now I know that Laura has made a connection with the other side and that this was real.
So Tina is here.
It's such a bizarre story.
So then what happened?
Well, at that point, Garrett thanks the spirit for making her presence known and says, okay, you can go now.
And then Laura turns to me and says, she's gone.
And she truly was gone because she never bothered me again.
I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Laura and to Garrett, because they came to me at a time where I didn't know who else to turn to.
And not only do they believe my story, but they gave me back my home and my peace of mind.
So thank you both so much.
When we come back, I'm going to ask Laura to help some of our viewers connect with the other side, if you're up to it.
We'll be right back.
Next, do our souls live on after we pass?
We try and experiment with Laura.
See what happens when we turn the studio audience over to her.
All of it is making sense.
It blows my mind.
Can she connect them with their loved ones on the other side?
Whoever said a doctor's visit isn't fun has obviously never been to the Dr. Oz show.
Is that right?
Make your appointment today.
Go to DrOz.com slash tickets and sign up for free tickets.
- Whoo! - Whoo! - Psychic medium Laura Lynn Jackson is here along with a group of people who've agreed to have Laura help them connect with loved ones on the other side.
So I'll turn the floor over to you.
Thank you, thank you.
I'm so honored to be here and to be reading for you.
So are we all ready to begin?
Okay.
Alright, and with that I feel like I'm pulled right here and I have a younger child energy coming through.
Is that with you?
Yeah, is that a male?
A boy, okay.
I'll give you this in case, okay.
Do you do a lot of work here in his name in some way?
Do you understand like charity work, give it back to the world?
Because I'm getting a thank you for that.
Thank you for doing that.
Thank you for enabling me to be present in your world and be here.
I am supposed to tell you from him that he likes your hair, so I think you have changed it a little bit.
I need to acknowledge that, and it's kind of fancy mode right now.
He's proud of you.
I also need to talk about you coming out of your grief and how important that is to him, that journey, that he's been on that journey with you.
And that you're finally engaging again.
You're being a bit more vibrant again.
He's bringing up the dog, the dog, the dog.
Is there a dog here and a dog there with him?
Do you understand?
Because I'm getting it in both places.
You know what he's showing me?
He's showing me Pez candy.
Do you understand this?
So this is just his validation to let you know, like, Mom, I'm really here.
Okay?
And I don't know if there's a C or a K name, too, like a Kevin or a, like, he's giving me this I need to acknowledge, okay?
Let me just ask you, so you have a mic, so far from what you're hearing, what's making sense to you, what's not?
All of it is making sense.
The Pez thing...
It blows my mind.
I can't believe that.
That's validation that I needed.
It's not me, it's him.
They worked very hard to pass it through.
That's what I needed.
So this is just his validation to let you know he's still with you.
He's absolutely still with you.
I'd love to have you talk to one other person if you have time.
Sure, sure.
I just want to go to you for one second.
Is there a female figure, your peer level, who's crossed the other side?
Do you know what I mean?
I feel like she was, like, throwing me at you, and she's like, oh, no, you can't finish till I let her know I'm okay, okay?
Is there, like, a different, like, V name in the family, too?
Like, a Vanessa, Veronica, or is there some joke with this, with a V? Think about this after, because she's just showing me a V and laughing hysterically, okay?
It's like that.
And she's making me feel like, in some way, twins.
Like, do you understand?
I had twins.
Okay, alright.
She never got to meet them.
Okay, this is her way of acknowledging this, because I'm hearing twins, twins, and like this, and I see all this love being thrown at you.
She didn't get to see them.
She sees them!
That's the thing.
She's totally, and when we cross, boy, we can see whatever we want.
We get a whole field of vision.
So this is her way of acknowledging that.
I feel like that's the message she really needed to give you, that she's still present in your life.
She sees you're a twin, and she says, you're an excellent mom.
You don't give yourself credit for that, but you're a beautiful, light-filled individual.
Thank you.
So what did Laura's words mean to you?
It was my mom and I was pregnant with the twins and she suffered from mental illness for a lot of years and I decided that I was no longer going to deal with it and I threatened her with that.
You don't want to take care of yourself.
I'm not going to be here to help you any longer.
And We were estranged and she passed away right after I had the twins.
Now that I have children, I can't imagine me being sick and dying thinking that they didn't love me.
And I struggle with it.
She knows you love her.
You know, she takes a lot of responsibility for things that occurred here.
Those were out of your hands.
Your job was to love her.
And sometimes when people become toxic in our energy, we need to distance ourselves.
And that's about loving yourself and loving your future children and loving creating a safe space for them with that.
So she takes full responsibility.
You need to put down that baggage you're carrying that doesn't belong to you.
You are a beautiful, loving, light-filled person, and you need to honor that about yourself.
Explore that and give that gift back to yourself.
Thank you, Laura.
I hope that was helpful.
So Laura's book is called The Light Between Us.
We'll be right back.
Later, get the clutter out of your closet.
My simple guide to get rid of what you don't really need.

It's been four days.
I need help.
From the people who brought you Duty Calls and Stool of Rock.
Starring Academy Award winner Colin Firth.
Are you still in there?
And Potty Duke.
Just a second!
Geez!
The number two movie at the box office this week.
I really need to go.
Me too.
We'd let you know when to see it, but we just can't tell when it's going to come out.
Constipation is coming to a commode near you.
And when it does, you will be prepared.
As part of my 30 ideas in 30 days to fix your biggest body problems, I'm taking what will make you go to the whole next level.
Resinda is here.
She says she's been constipated on and off for the last couple of years.
How do you feel when you're constipated?
I feel a little uptight.
I feel heavy.
I feel uncomfortable.
It's just not a good feeling to be constantly.
So what have you tried?
I've tried Colace.
I've tried enemas.
I've tried suppositories.
Eating the right foods, but sometimes it just doesn't work.
Even special oils and creams that I use.
So, you should all know, we sent Racinda a fix-or-fail solution.
It is the Potty Squat.
Rather, Squatty Pot.
Squatty Pot.
It looks like this.
That's my best friend.
And you are on a potty, and you do squat, but it's called the Squatty Pot for a reason.
But before I show that to everybody, what did you think about this when you got it in the mail?
Well, I got it in the mail.
It reminded me something in Zumba class, when you're doing the step, coming up and coming down.
So, you know, it was something.
I was like, what is this?
So, I tried it.
It's a great product.
You like it?
I loved it.
I tried it for...
I was constipated.
I ate the wrong foods.
I tried it for three days.
And on the third day, I squatted, sat on that potty, and whoop, there it is.
It came right out.
Let's show everybody why the squatty potty relieves constipation.
I'm fascinated.
You must be as well a little surprised something mechanical like this would have that much of an impact on all those different chemicals you were taking.
Dr. Oz, I was going the whole day.
I went seven times that whole day.
So I lost about some more weight.
I lost about three pounds.
I think it was about three to five pounds.
It definitely works.
You lost track.
I know.
All right.
Let's show everyone what's going on.
So when you stand, as Jacinda's doing right now, just stand straight up like you're doing it.
Yeah.
Now we're gonna actually show you, you can put your arms in your chest a little bit.
Okay.
So there, you see the colon in there?
And that's what's happening normally.
Your colon, the bowel, is kinked.
It's supposed to be kinked right around here, right?
And it's kinked there for a reason because you don't want to go poop while you're standing.
No way.
Right?
It's hard to go poop while you're standing.
Who's tried?
It's not.
Two people in the back.
It's not gonna happen.
Now when you sit on the toilet, that little sling that holds that kinked bowel, go ahead and sit down.
Watch what happens.
As you sit down, you begin to relax that bowel.
And as you relax that bowel, and we're gonna put it right on top there, As you relax your bowel, it sort of takes that kink out of it.
And by reducing that kink, it's a bit more of a straight shot.
So the arrows there show you how the poop might begin to work its way out a little bit more.
But guess what?
It's still kinked, isn't it?
Yep.
It's still kinked.
So what we're going to do...
Here we go.
...with the squatty potty...
Here we go.
...is put it where your feet are.
Okay.
Put your feet up on top.
And now, as Racinda demonstrates so artfully, she is in a squatty-potty mode.
Now what's what happens?
The intestine gets straight.
And when the intestine's straight, it's a straight shot for everything to get out of you, including getting all that poop out that's been stored in there.
The poop came out.
It was a lot of it.
All right.
So let me just put the whole thing together.
I'm going to play the whole thing.
So you're standing.
It looks like this.
Run it one more time.
So if you're standing, the bowel looks like this.
As you begin to sit, it straightens out like this.
You begin to see it straighten a tiny bit.
The arrows show you that there's still a little bit of a kink, but it makes it a little easier.
But if you put the squatty potty under you, it does this.
The finishing touch, it straightens it out.
See it all straightens like that?
And that allows you to do what you're supposed to do.
Listen, our ancestors, they've been doing this for millennia, right?
It's amazing.
We were always, when we went potty, we went potty like this.
Right?
There was no toilet to sit on.
You sat like this, which is sort of what Racinda's doing now.
Right.
Right?
So, Racinda loved this so darn much, I decided to take it to the next level.
I thought I'd have my staff tested out.
Oh, you did?
On your recommendation.
Oh, wonderful.
What we did was, we installed ten squatty potties in our office bathrooms.
This is what we do for you guys so much we love you all.
Then we conducted, the whole staff had to participate, a Dr. Oz Squatty Potty staff survey.
56 members of my staff took the survey, and the results are in.
Are you guys curious about these results?
All right.
One person is still backed up.
I have an idea who that is.
Two people said it was worse than before.
I know who they are, too.
18 folks said that it didn't make a difference, but look how many people kind of improved, 16, or oh my goodness, where did I get one of these things?
There was a response I got from 18 people.
Number one response.
And in the comments section, my staff had all kinds of interesting comments I'm not going to share with you, but one was that it's hard to do with heels on.
So make sure you take your heels off.
That's so true.
I tried it with heels, it did not work.
So, now you know what to do.
The Squatty Potty costs about 25 bucks.
You can also use old magazines or books, anything that lifts your legs up the way the cinders are right now.
If you can do that, you'll have the same kind of results, I bet, if you are constipated.
Thank you, my dear, for doing all this hard work to have you lifted for us.
For all the fixes my staff has found this month, you can go to DrRoz.com.
Coming up, Keep or Toss, my ultimate closet peanut guide is next.
It is unbelievably useful.
Be right back.
This November, we're taking you to the next level.
A month of next-level solutions.
I'm gonna try it, Dr. Oz, because you said it.
People who are changing the rules.
I don't think anything's impossible.
New ways of looking at food.
It is so good.
Medical breakthroughs.
A calorie-burning and cold vest.
Must-see experiments.
It's a month of game-changers.
And this actually blows my mind.
This November take your health to the next level Tomorrow you'll be talking about my closet clean out a guy It is a simple and easy guide to follow for anyone out there whose closet is a little bit cluttered.
That's what it looks like right there.
So I ask every member of my audience to get that sheet and then bring one item of clothing from their closet.
So let me see the sheet.
You all have the sheet.
Let me see the clothing you brought in.
All the clothing's out there.
They all got everything.
Shoes and everything.
So my simple guide starts with a question.
Have you worn it in the last six months, right?
Up there.
Have you worn it?
If you say no, say no over there, it takes you down to, well, how does it look on you?
Maybe that's why you're not wearing it, right?
Let's say it doesn't look so good.
It's just okay, right?
Then it says you still have a tag on it.
If it has a tag, then maybe you should try the clothes just in case.
Maybe it fits now.
Or if there's no tag on it, take it down.
Is it an undergarment?
I'm asking that because, well, it's an undergarment.
You might not want to donate it.
But if it's not an undergarment, You gotta ask yourself, is it dirty?
Right?
If it's dirty, please clean it.
If it's not dirty, then you donate it.
So simple.
There's three possible outcomes.
You can donate it, like we showed, you can toss it, or you can hang it.
There's only three places you can go with this thing, and when you do that, I've got little buckets here.
Donate, toss it, and hang it.
You pick your place, and you put it on there.
And all you gotta do is put your clothes that you brought in today in one of these bins, or hang it if it's to be, you know, hung, like you're supposed to keep it in your own closet.
