The Total 10 weight loss plan is taking over.
You have questions.
Are there any sugars that aren't, forbid me.
Dr. Oz has answers.
How to boost your weight loss potential.
How to fight a sugar craving.
What to eat when you're home on the sofa.
There's still time to join the Total 10. So what are you waiting for?
Plus, a heads up for women everywhere.
The three pills you need in your medicine cabinet.
Coming up next on Dr. Oz.
Welcome to the show.
It is a total 10 takeover.
Everywhere I go, people are saying they are making progress on the plan.
And with seven days down and seven days to go, your response has been amazing.
It's taken over the internet with nearly one and a half million of you racking up 12 million page views of my total 10 rapid weight loss plan in just one week.
You're halfway there and already many of you are reporting success.
I lost seven pounds overall.
I lost 13 and a half pounds.
Six pounds.
Nearly 20 pounds.
I have so much energy.
I have not felt this good in years.
But some of you have had challenges or hit obstacles.
The hardest thing at first was definitely getting rid of coffee.
I missed my desserts.
I was really tired for the first two days.
And many of you have questions you want answered.
How do I incorporate this when I actually go out with my friends?
How can I satisfy my sweet tooth?
Is there a max to how many vegetables you can have?
How do I make sure that I'm not going to get back into the rut of the carb loading and the sweet eating that got me here in the first place?
All your biggest questions answered today.
And even if you're just getting started today, we're here to help you succeed and hit your weight loss goals.
The audience today is filled with men and women who are on the road to losing weight and transforming their health.
Now I want to make sure this plan will give you the results you've been looking for.
So this group right here, these ladies all have questions about what's on the forbidden list.
Let me start with Sharon.
What inspires you to go on the dot before you ask your question?
I'm really wanting for these days to be healthy.
And is it working?
It is.
I've successfully lost 12 pounds on it.
Oh my goodness.
That's wonderful.
Alright, question about elimination foods.
Are there any sugars that aren't forbidden?
Any maple syrup, palm sugar, something.
With all the success you've had, I can be very honest about this.
The best way for you to keep losing that weight is to stay away from refined sugars.
For a lot of reasons.
They're addictive.
They really just suck us in.
They create cravings.
That stated, there are a lot of sugar options this year.
Things that I gave you that I think can get you where you want to be.
For example, dates, which I happen to adore.
Wonderful source of natural sugar, so they come with natural nutrients in them.
I gave you cocoa powder that I think is fantastic.
It has antioxidants in it.
Unsweetened coconut milk and almond milk work, for example, in coffee and other foods that you're making.
Plus, in the smoothie, they're fantastic.
And liquid stevia.
Do you know much about liquid stevia?
Not that much.
All right, so this is an herb, but I don't want you to take it in an herb.
It's a natural sweetener, so I like that fact.
But it's about 25 times sweeter than sugar, so you don't need very much.
And I prefer you get it from a liquid form.
Again, it's natural.
It comes from a plant, not from a chemical factory, so I like the fact that it has that benefit, but you can't take too much of it.
And to get the pure stuff, that liquid form, pure stevia, will deal with your address, with your issues, your cravings.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
My next question is about the detox broth, which is a staple of the plan because you can eat it in unlimited quantities.
Come on up, Tammy.
What's your question?
Well, the first week I lost five pounds.
Good for you.
Thank you.
Good for you.
I've been having the detox soup every day.
The only thing is it makes me full.
It's just very expensive.
Do you have any suggestions to get the cost down a little bit?
I thank you for bringing this by.
This is, when you print this out on the website, it'll make your life much easier.
It's our program.
Very concrete.
So, it's okay, first of all.
This is the list of things that you're going to put in your food.
It's actually how you make the broth.
Right.
You don't have to buy all these things.
Right.
They're overlapping with this area, which is the 40 vegetables that you can eat.
So you don't have to get them all.
Just use whatever of these you can in the broth.
You can actually, frankly, just buy the low-sodium vegetable broth in a store without making it at all.
Or put half of these veggies into the broth and save the rest for the meals you're going to be having.
That way you'll save money, save time, and everyone's happy, including you, because you'll be still losing the weight that you like to lose.
Right, Tammy?
Don't lose that.
I won't, thank you.
Somebody had a question about protein, the protein you're allowed to have on the meal.
What's your protein question?
My protein question is, with the two tablespoons of protein powder that you add to your shake, is that inclusive in your daily intake for the 12 ounces of protein?
No, you get both.
Okay.
You get the 10 grams of protein for breakfast, which comes in the protein powder.
Okay.
And separate from that, you get 12 ounces of protein.
It's going to come from poultry or fish.
Eggs this year.
I gave you eggs because a lot of women want to have eggs.
Right.
Right?
That's a simple way.
Protein is the foundation of this.
Okay.
Protein is how you're going to keep satiated, happy, and how you're going to lose weight really quickly.
Okay.
Thanks.
Good luck to you.
All right.
Social media.
I've been flooded with questions as well.
This one came from Terryann on Twitter.
She said, hey, Dr. Oz, I got your rapid weight loss plan.
What kind of exercise do you suggest for the plan?
Who else has that question?
Who wants to exercise the plan?
Like three people.
That's what I expected.
Here's the story, everybody.
Exercise is not mandatory on the plan.
Frankly, some people actually gain weight because they eat more when they exercise.
So you will lose weight without exercising.
But I do want you to move around.
If you want to, you know, ideally boost your weight loss potential, I want you to walk about 10,000 steps a day.
Walking is going to increase the weight loss, but it will not increase your appetite.
That's what I like about it.
So here's a plan to get you that goal.
Remember, 2,000 steps is about a mile.
So you want to walk about 10,000 steps.
That's five miles.
Don't panic.
A lot of you are already getting, you know, 2,000 or 3,000 steps a day naturally.
So put a pedometer on.
You can get them on your smartphones now.
Just track your daily steps and try to nudge it up a little bit, but it's not essential to the program.
Another question I often get asked is about snacks.
So I've got a new, improved version of them.
Additional snacks you can choose from to stay motivated.
This is critical, guys, because research shows that halfway point of any weight loss program is where most people drop out.
And I don't want that to happen on our plan.
So Manny's going to help us.
She's actually on the plan.
How's it going for you?
Great.
Wonderful.
Well, prior to starting this plan, I actually lost 140 pounds on my own.
You did?
That is really cool.
Thanks.
But I hit that ever-dreaded plateau for quite a while, and this plan actually got the ball moving again, and the scale started going down.
I'm very happy for you.
You know, I can give you my tips for how to snack, but I know many, many women on the plan have already developed concocted ideas that work so well.
I wanted to hear from a few of you.
So walk me through the snacks that are working for you on the plan.
Right.
Well, I'm a snacker, but like everybody else, I need that quick grab-and-go kind of snack, and this is great.
We have some chickpeas here, a little bit of cumin, some chili powder, some rosemary.
I have a fresh rosemary bush, and it's perfect in these.
A little bit of sea salt, some olive oil, and some lime juice.
Just toss it all together, pop it in the oven for about 45 to 50 minutes, and they come out crunchy and delicious.
They pop just like peanuts.
They are.
I would eat them like peanuts, which you can't have.
You can have tree nuts, but not peanuts.
Okay, what's this over here?
And over here, these are almond butter quinoa balls.
So you said we could have our quinoa, but you didn't say how.
So what we did was we mixed it, some quinoa, some almond butter, and a little bit of vanilla extract.
And then just like cookie dough, pop it into the fridge to make it a little bit firmer so you can roll it into your hands and roll it into little balls.
You know, I actually made these before I drove here last night from Buffalo, and they are the perfect snack.
I wasn't hungry the entire way here.
You should sell these things.
I'm serious.
These are so good.
They're fluffy.
They're really good.
Like little floating marshmallows, but good for you.
Thank you very much.
Congratulations on the weight loss.
Thank you.
And Philomena is joining us.
How much weight have you lost in the program?
I've been on the program for two weeks, and I've lost a total of 12 pounds.
Good for you.
First week, seven pounds.
So, teach me about the snacks that got you.
You must feel different when you're 12 pounds lighter.
Oh, I feel great.
Super.
My energy level is 100%.
It's increased.
I've been in diets in the past, and I've had headaches and stuff.
After a couple days, there's been no headaches.
I feel fantastic, and it's just been a super diet.
You know, the program happens to get you to lose weight.
The main reason I'm doing it is to detox you, to actually make you feel better.
And when your body feels better, the weight doesn't have to be there to protect you anymore.
Now, snacks are a big part of this, and we want to get people through the second week successfully as well.
So give me the snacks that have gotten you through it.
This first snack is an almond butter Greek yogurt snack.
You take some Greek yogurt, which is high in probiotics.
You mix in three tablespoons of almond butter, which you can find in the peanut butter aisle.
Two tablespoons of vanilla extract.
Throw in a little cinnamon, which is really tasty.
Pop it in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
It looks like this?
Yes.
And it's great.
And it's really kid-friendly.
My kids love it.
Oh my goodness, that is good.
That is really good.
They love it with celery, and they love it with apples.
Great snack.
And what do you have for your artichokes?
These are artichokes.
They're canned artichokes.
You just pop it out of the can.
You throw in a little extra virgin olive oil, maybe three tablespoons, a little pepper, red pepper, a little ground pepper, maybe a little salt.
You can use kosher salt or sea salt.
Pop it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes, and you get a nice, crispy, crunchy snack.
A lot of times with diets, there's not a lot of crunch to them, so this is the perfect snack.
This is the crunchiest thing on the table.
I would never expect it with artist jokes.
And it's healthy.
More importantly, it tastes good.
Thank you very much.
Thanks for your comments.
We're almost there.
We almost got it.
Only seven more days to go.
I know you can do it.
We've created a total 10 rapid weight loss Pinterest board.
It's filled with snack ideas for you to choose and to stay motivated.
Use it, share it, send me yours.

Join me all this January.
Happy EU Year.
When your sinuses don't drain, you'll be feeling the pain.
They can get clogged, causing pressure and headaches that make your face feel like it's going to explode.
You've all been there.
I took to social media using the hashtag drainthepain to find the best sinus solutions for you.
Dana sent me this tweet.
It says, Dr. Oz, the very moment my nose starts to feel blocked, I panic and I dread the day ahead.
Hashtag drainthepain.
Dana's here.
How are you?
Hi, good.
Nice for being here.
Thanks.
So describe the pain for me.
What's it like?
You know, I mainly feel it in the morning and in the evening, and it feels like someone's hammering my forehead and my cheeks.
It really is painful.
Crazy.
Isn't it how they get so uncomfortable?
It's very uncomfortable.
All right.
I'm going to show you exactly why your sinuses make you feel so much pain.
And it's sort of a cool structure, your sinuses.
They're needed to balance your head.
So if you take your head and you sort of make a little line through the front of it, there's your jaw down there, make a little line through the front and flip you around.
These are your sinuses.
And notice that they're normally filled with air with a very thin layer of mucus and these little hairs that are supposed to move all the junk out.
They push the germs out, the mucus.
But sometimes you get an infection like a common cold.
That lining gets really thick.
And so it starts to clog off the exit, the fluid builds up, and it begins to throb because that fluid drains normally, and it can't.
So it's in there, it's squeezing your head.
So you feel like you're about to explode.
Yes.
And you have that thick, greenish stuff come out.
Sometimes it's yellowish.
You can tell stories about it, right?
You can tell your fortune.
It's not cute.
Yeah.
It sounds familiar?
Yes.
I've been there.
Every morning.
Yeah.
I feel it.
It's coming out.
Even when you sneeze and cough, it doesn't always get it out.
No.
Trying to blow your nose.
All right.
So I've got three sinus solutions that will ease your pain.
Okay.
I'm going to walk you through them.
The first is a solution called saline spray.
These saline sprays are very simple.
They literally flush out that mucus you saw in there.
So saline sprays are made primarily just a fluid and some salty water.
It combats the stuffiness and congestion so many folks feel in their congested sinus passages.
If you just lubricate it, you sort of free it up.
So, you can look for purified water and sodium chloride, which is just basically salt water.
Okay.
Easily available in bottles like this.
Put it in your nose.
You can do it once if you want.
All right, we're going to give it a shot?
We're going to give it a shot.
Put it up your nose.
All right.
I've never tried this before.
Well, then, let me guard myself.
Go.
Oh!
It goes up there.
Wow!
It's a very enlivening experience.
It is.
Keep that, Dana.
Thank you very much for being here.
Oh, thank you.
All right, next up, Laura Instagrammed this picture that says, what weighs more, my sinuses or this 50-pound weight?
Hashtag drain the pain again.
How are you, Laura?
I'm well.
How are you today?
So when you have that 50 pounds of weight in your head, what do you normally do to alleviate the pain?
I'm a nose blower, and I wake up, I blow my nose, I blow my nose all day long, all night.
I even grew up with a mother who always blew her nose and had little tissues everywhere around the house, and I vowed to never do that, and I do that.
Does it work?
No.
No.
But I don't know what else to do.
Well, I'll give you a little tip that does work well, but you've got to use it the right way.
Okay.
It's decongestants.
We don't look for the right ones all the time.
You want to look for a decongestant.
These are over-the-counter, so you can all get them, but it's got to say pseudoephedrine in it.
Okay.
What pseudoephedrine does is very important.
It actually shrinks those membranes.
Let me go back to the animation I showed you a second ago.
So here's that animation, right?
It's all clogged up down in here.
If you can shrink those little pink membranes, the fluid drains right up on its own.
The gravity wants it to drain.
You don't want to have pain in these areas.
You want them to be full of air.
And if you take the pills correctly, generally taking it in the morning is better.
Because when you're lying on your back, all that mucus settles in there.
Right, and I sit up and I'm dizzy in the mornings.
Yeah, that's very common, actually, because your balance is off.
It can influence your ears as well.
So you sit up, get past the dizziness, then take your pseudephedrine over-the-counter pill.
The decongestant will drain out that area.
You'll feel much better.
But I don't want you taking it more than three days in a row.
These aren't designed to be used forever.
They're designed to be a couple days stopgap to sort of thin those membranes, shrink those membranes, allow that mucus to come out.
Great.
Can you exercise on that?
Yes, you can.
Okay.
You absolutely can.
It focuses on the membranes inside those sinuses, makes those blood vessels shrink down a little bit, which is why it's so beneficial.
But if you do it every day, it won't work anymore.
Got it.
But you can exercise.
You can always exercise.
Okay.
It'll make me feel better.
All right, Laura.
For my next sinus solution, Tish posted this video on my Facebook wall.
Take a look.
Hi, Dr. Oz.
It's that time of year again and my sinuses are going crazy, crazy, crazy.
I want to nip this in the bud, but I want to try a natural approach.
What is the best way to drain the pain?
This drug is in person, so what frustrates you the most about your sinus pain?
It's a combination.
I have incredible pain behind the eye, and it grows and grows and spreads across the forehead, and then the eye runs, so I can't put on my makeup until I get to work.
And that means everybody on the subway has to see me.
So the sinuses, everyone thinks they're here, but I showed you that little picture.
They're actually above your eyes as well.
They're actually literally behind your eyes.
So everything you're describing is perfect for sinus pain.
If you can press on your sinuses and they hurt, you have a sinus headache.
Yes.
So it's caused by, so you can diagnose yourself.
Okay.
And it's, you know, the buildup of mucus we've talked about is important.
So the question is, what can you do to reduce the inflammation in the tissues?
Yes.
So they don't want to make the fluid so much.
And this is an idea that I like a lot.
It's been used for many years.
It's Butterbur tea.
I've heard of this.
You have?
Yes.
Have you tried it?
I have not.
Oh, so good.
I like teaching people things.
Go ahead and give that a taste.
Butterbur tea is an herb.
It's a natural product that has chemicals that reduce inflammation.
The steam, when you make the tea, how is it, by the way?
It's good.
Yeah.
Not great, just good.
Very light.
Light.
Yes, light's the right word.
Very light.
It's an herb in water, so it's not quite like a rich tea.
Probably would taste better with a little champagne mixed in, chilled, you know.
That will give you a different kind of headache.
A different kind of headache.
So you want to use the steam.
So get it into your nose.
That moisture actually loosens up that mucus a bit.
And then of course when you drink it, the hot fluids, any warm fluids, they actually, because they warm up your sinuses as well, will also help melt away the stuff that's stuck in there.
How long does it take to affect the change?
The mucus and the warm fluids work almost immediately.
Oh, nice.
But once it's loosened, let's say an hour or two later, you do want to blow your nose once you try to get what's ever stuck in there out.
Okay.
It's available in a lot of stores nationwide now, but health food stores have it, and you can certainly buy it online, about $10 a box.
I'll try it.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
All right.
I got one last solution.
One more idea that everyone can try right now.
I want you to know this.
It will work.
It does not cost you any money.
Audience, you can do this with me if you're all into this.
All right.
Here's the deal.
This is called a sinus massage.
So, this is a technique practiced by osteopathic doctors who specialize in manipulative medicine.
Very straightforward.
You're going to put your tongue against the top of your mouth.
Everyone do that.
All right.
Tongue against the top of your mouth, and then put your finger, your pointer finger, right between your eyebrows.
Right in that little sensitive area.
And then you're going to alternate pressure.
One second on the finger, and then one second with your tongue.
Then back to the finger, then back to the tongue.
You guys keep going.
Oh, I love looking at you guys doing this.
Fantastic.
Keep doing this for 20 seconds.
It's going to help relieve sinus pressure and pain.
Again, osteopathic doctors do this.
There's a reason.
It's going to kiss a little vibration going.
What do you guys think?
They don't know.
At least thank you for trying anyway.
If you have a sinus headache, you'll come back and thank me.

What are you waiting for?
Join me all this January.
Happy New Year.
Let's face it, your grandmother knew best.
What would she say?
She said, if you want to fight disease, start with food.
But it turns out it has to be the right food.
So today I've got three foods wreaking havoc on your health that you don't know about.
Christy's here.
She says she's worried she's making the wrong choices when it comes to food.
So Christy, what is it that's concerning you the most?
Well, Dr. Oz, I try to eat healthy or at least I think I'm eating healthy.
But when it comes to grocery shopping, I'm a creature of habit and I buy the same things over and over.
So now I'm starting to question if they're healthy for me or are they hurting me?
So it turns out it all comes down to inflammation.
No one's immune to it.
And sometimes foods affect us in ways we never would have predicted.
But some of these foods have a huge impact on your health that actually are predictable.
So I'm going to walk you through and show you what I mean and what concerns me about some of the foods that have become routine in the American diet.
Let's say you're wandering through life here.
That's you.
Nice and smelled.
Look at all these healthy foods you have options for.
The broccoli, the salads, the fruits and all.
You put these into your body, put them all in there, and what happens?
Your body easily processes them because they're normal healthy foods for you.
Like Grandma said, you want those foods.
But there's some foods, like foods with trans fats in them, you know, the popcorns, the chips, the hot dogs.
You know, these processed foods don't agree with your body.
Your immune system thinks it's being attacked.
It gets overwhelmed.
And so it starts to create inflammation, redness all over.
And that, when you're doing that a lot, sends an alarm throughout the system.
And that high alert that the body now feels and senses begins to influence you.
And if you're doing it all the time, it starts to cause diseases like heart disease.
And it causes cancers, and it causes Alzheimer's, and frankly a ton of other big-time problems we face in America, all because of the foods we're eating.
So I actually took the liberty of going through your shopping list.
Okay.
I hope that's okay.
That is good.
So we're going to talk about what you put on your list, and maybe I'll offer some replacements, because I know you're going to probably panic when I tell you about some of these.
So everyone in the audience, you can be part of this conversation.
We're going to go through a couple options.
You tell me which is the most inflammatory.
Christy, you take the lead.
Okay.
All right.
Is it the vinegar I found on your list?
Is it the mustard or is it the cream cheese?
The audience is almost always right, Christy.
Cream cheese.
Very well done, cream cheese.
And you're right.
Christy, cream cheese has lots of saturated fats.
We know those saturated fats feed the fire.
That's why we talk about the healthier fats all the time.
So, when you know that, you probably predicted that, didn't you?
I thought it was mustard, but that's just me.
You did?
Oh, because it's hot.
I guess.
I don't know.
That's actually not an unreasonable thought.
I wouldn't have guessed it personally.
But I know.
Are you worried about the amount of cream cheese that you're having in your life?
I do like cream cheese and bagels.
Everyone likes cream cheese and bagels.
I know.
Is that bad?
Well, it's not ideal, as you can tell.
Here's my solution from you on.
Instead of the cream cheese and bagels, which I know you love, because so does everybody else, I want you to try cottage cheese on spelt bread.
Okay.
You know what?
Go ahead and taste this.
Okay.
I want an honest opinion from you.
Okay.
But here's the deal.
Cottage cheese is low fat.
You can get it low fat anyway.
Get that.
So it's very low in saturated fats.
But it gives that creamy texture.
And the spelt bread actually replaces the bagel.
With a high fiber alternative?
I like that.
You'd swap it out for breakfast?
I sure would.
Oh, I like this.
I like it already.
Come on over here.
The next three items on Christy's grocery list, very common items you can find on many of your grocery lists as well.
They were frozen dinners, frozen mixed berries, and frozen yogurt.
What do you think, Christy?
Frozen dinners.
Frozen dinners.
They must be bad, right?
They have to be bad.
They're processed food.
Everyone thinks she's right?
There's a lot of mumbling out there.
Here's the answer.
It's frozen yogurt.
What?
Yeah.
The frozen yogurt's got a couple things wrong with it.
One of them, by the way, is if it has milk proteins that inflame your body, and this is very common for a lot of folks, you'll actually feel a little bloated.
You'll get diarrhea and all kinds of bad stuff we don't want to talk about right now, right?
And sometimes it will cause even outward symptoms like itchiness and redness on your skin.
Really?
There's also sweeteners in it a lot of times.
That's how they make it palatable for a lot of folks.
Here's your replacement.
I was going to say, what can I replace it with?
You can have almond milk frozen dessert.
You're not giving up anything!
All right, almond milk, here, please taste this.
Yes.
Almond milk has got the creamy texture of regular ice cream.
You can add more berries as you desire, but you've got to make sure it doesn't contain fructose.
No fructose?
No fructose.
You don't want to have fake sugars in this.
You want to have the real stuff, that way your body can tolerate it.
And you can even add extra berries if you want a super low-fat solution.
Okay.
That was good.
That's good, isn't it?
That is really good.
Come on over here.
Let's go to the last item.
This is a very important one.
This is the hardest question of all, everybody.
On the grocery list, you had three things.
You had stevia, you had agave, you had ginger.
Okay.
Three foods.
Which do you think is the most inflammatory?
She's looking for help, audience.
Agave.
Agave.
Agave?
They are so smart.
Are they smart?
Yeah, they are.
It is agave.
Agave has the fructose that I spoke about earlier.
Listen, I used to tell you to try agave, and I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, but because it has, you know, there's the sweeteners in there similar to what you have with corn syrup, I don't think it's the best thing for you.
I think, ideally, you know, you avoid it because it derails your diet because it doesn't send back the right hunger signals.
Instead, you're going to love this, cinnamon.
You don't want to taste this, or else you'll be on YouTube in a challenge.
And a spoonful.
A spoonful, right.
But cinnamon, you can use it on morning yogurt.
You can use it on your coffee.
It's a very nice way of giving it a sweet-like taste, but actually helps your blood sugar, and that doesn't hurt your blood sugar.
So you can replace it, and you'll probably be able to cure your sweet tooth with that.
I have a sweet tooth.
You think that might help?
I think, yes.
I need to eat more cinnamon.
It's a little present for joining us.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
Aspartame.
I used to eat it almost every day.
Then I did a little research on the side effects.
From that day on, it was out of my diet for good.

Today, I'm revealing the three pills women need in their medicine cabinet.
Here to help me reveal them on behalf of our sponsorship partner, Walmart, is pharmacist Candace Osborne.
Alright, I just found out Candice's parents call her Dr. Oz.
Osborne Oz.
I like that.
I'm very proud of that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
So, how did you pick the three medications we ought to have in our medicine cabinet?
Well, these three products, if taken daily, can help women lead to their overall goal is to be healthy.
What woman doesn't want to be healthy?
I think these products can definitely help.
Let's start with the first ones, probiotics.
And I love to hear your arguments.
Why do you think it's so critical?
Why does it make a top three?
Probiotics are really important because about 70% of your immune system is located within your digestive tract.
Probiotics are that good bacteria that you want.
Within your normal digestive system are already natural digestive enzymes.
So taking a probiotic, for example, the Truebiotics from one a day is great because it'll help increase your digestive health as well as your immune health.
Let me show everybody why probiotics are so important in general.
So the normal gut has a balance in there.
We're supposed to have balance in our life.
We have good bacteria, we have bad bacteria.
There's our belly.
And no matter what's happening, no matter what weight we are, we want that balance to be intact.
We got the bad guys here and the good guys, the green ones over here.
But sometimes, because of an illness or your bad diet or medications, the bad bacteria, they take over.
See how scared the good guys are?
Because they're getting beaten back.
We're supposed to have the good guys defending us.
They can't do it.
We have too many bad bacteria.
So what do you get?
Upset stomach, gas, bloating.
Life's not good.
There's a fire going on in your belly, and that's not what you want to have.
So this is where probiotics come in.
These are good bacteria to the rescue.
They come in there, and they push back, literally protecting our intestines from the bad guys.
The bad guys are still there, but the good guys do a good job protecting us, and they restore balance in the gut, which is what makes us feel healthy again.
So Candace, in order to achieve this, how long do folks have to take probiotics?
I'd say take them daily.
Try to take them for at least two weeks to begin with.
You'll start seeing some improvement, but continue to take them as well.
Alright, let's move on to the second cabinet in the medicine cabinet.
This is a multivitamin.
Explain, if you can, why you put this in your top three.
About 90% of people do not get enough nutrients in their daily, everyday food.
So multivitamins are great because they can narrow that gap.
What I would say is that for women, one a day specifically is made for women and is a great multivitamin.
So here's the story.
Most of us think we're eating right.
But even if we think we're eating right, this actually is sort of what we're like.
All these key vitamins are there, and they're not quite at the levels.
You want to have topped off vitamins.
You don't want to have to fight a battle uphill by not having the right amount.
So in order to bring all your vitamins where they need to be, even if some of them are close to normal, many others aren't, you take a multivitamin.
That's what this is.
And if you do that, you ensure that you'll have 100% of everything.
You know what?
Get a little extra.
It doesn't matter to me that much, but at least get up to the full dose.
And do this across the board very simply by taking the multivitamin pill.
I don't know if you all think about it this way, but I think it's a fantastic insurance policy.
And what I often tell viewers is cut it in half.
And take half in the morning, half in the evening.
Do you do that?
Totally agree.
Okay.
The third pill that women need to take in the medicine cabinet is low-dose aspirin.
I'm so happy you put this on your list.
Thank you.
Please explain it to everybody.
Usually cardiovascular disease is the number one leading cause of death in the United States.
If you're a woman and you're at risk, what you want to do is think about taking a low dose aspirin.
Sometimes that can help to lower the risk of having any kind of subsequent heart attacks.
But always make sure to talk to your doctor before taking any kind of aspirin therapy.
Make sure it's right for you.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Oz on the Dr. Oz Show.

Happy New Year.
For some people, retirement means traveling the world or taking up a new hobby.
But for one man, it's all about giving back.
Take a look at how Rick Curley turned his retirement dream into a reality that brings big smiles to small faces.
All these bikes belong to y'all.
Go check out your new bikes.
When I see a kid smile, it feels like your heart's just going to jump out of your chest.
Rick and Dee Curley have been spreading quite a few smiles to quite a few kids with a charity that gives out bikes to children in need.
As of this year, we're up to about 3,400 bikes and that's going to be a lot of smiles.
Bikes for Angels is an organization I started about seven years ago.
The school where I taught auto mechanics asked me to deliver presents because I had a bright red truck.
Rick bought three bikes to add to those presents, which turned out to be just the right size for the very last kids he met that day.
So I told my principal, I said, this is a sign that we need to do this.
Yes sir, thank you buddy.
When we give a kid a bike, we're giving them some freedom.
We're giving them a reason to get up, get outside.
It also lets that kid know that somebody cares about it.
It's awesome!
It's really cool.
Kids don't choose the path that they're born into.
By giving, we try to make that path easier for them.
Rick got his whole family and his students involved, raising money and building bikes.
It's so nice to see kids get excited about doing something, about giving something back.
After he retired last year, Rick and his family renewed their commitment to their community and its kids.
Rick has worked so hard on Bikes for Angels, and we are keeping this going.
And I hope to see it continue many, many years.
The idea of being able to do this during my retirement, I could not ask for a better blessing.
All right.
Please welcome Rick and Dee Kirstie.
Unbelievable.
Rick, you've had such a huge impact in your community by giving away these bikes.
Did you have any idea this would happen?
I had no idea.
I started wanting to do this when I was a small child.
And it's absolutely grown into a community passion just from a dream of mine.
What do you feel like when you see these kids smile as you give them the bikes?
It's hard to explain.
It's very hard to explain.
You feel like your heart's just going to come out of your chest.
You have a big heart to come through that chest.
Dee, this is a family affair, I understand.
You've got two kids, five grandchildren chipping in.
How has that worked?
It is a very awesome feeling to see how much joy they get in giving.
The first time they were involved we were in a very poor neighborhood and they were shocked and shocked but since then it has just turned into joy for them as well.
It was shocking for the kids to see.
Well, we were in a very poor neighborhood.
Some of the homes didn't even have floors in them.
And they had never seen, you know, anything like that.
So once we stopped at the shelter and started unloading all those bicycles and they saw the place that these bikes were going to, it was an every year thing for them.
Rick, what's your hope?
What's the future of Bikes for Angels?
I would love to see this in every community.
Not just the idea of the children getting the bicycles, but the idea of the The kids enjoying the gift of giving something away and not expecting something in return.
You know, I am always inspired by people who give back to society.
And I'm not alone in that sentiment.
Sports Authority, it's a wonderful group, has taken an extraordinary effort.
They're so impressed by your generosity.
Come on over here.
They want to help out a little bit.
And they're going to donate to you 50-50 Schwinn bikes so you can continue your dream.
Come on over.
Look at him over here.
Look at him over here.
They're great.
And they go fast too, those kids.
Congratulations to what you do.
Good luck here.
We'll be right back, everybody.
Tell us, what's your favorite health gift of all time?
I work in a very stressful office and always complain about it.
My son got me a set of stress balls to roll when I get worked up.
It really does the trick.
I'm much calmer.

Most people think that people who do extreme sports are just adrenaline junkies.
How many of you would do that, by the way?
Yeah, it's like an IQ test, isn't it?
No way.
But some psychologists now argue that extreme sports is really all about conquering your fears.
So I want everyone to pick one fear that they're ready to conquer this year.
It doesn't have to be skiing off a cliff.
Just pick something that's fearful to you, like going to the gym.
How about going to the dentist?
Jump off your own cliff this year and you'll be glad you did.
Now it's time for in case you missed it.
First, new snack options for the total 10 rapid weight loss plan that could keep you motivated.
So we had chili roasted chickpeas, we had quinoa almond butter balls, it was really good, almond butter Greek yogurt dip, and lemon roasted artichoke hearts.
We also talked about sinus solutions that can drain the pain.
Try a saline spray.
It helps flush away germs.
Super simple to use.
You can wash away the mucus.
But you want to look for sprays with purified water and sodium chloride, which is a big word for salt.
And I know for most of you, you're going to reach for over-the-counter decongestant medications.
I get it.
So make sure it contains Sudafedrine.
That's going to work the best because it shrinks sinus membranes to alleviate pressure.
That allows the fluid to drain out of your sinus and see if, you know, you'll feel recovered.
But don't take it for more than three or four days in a row.
Finally, please be careful of dubious people online to make it seem like I'm endorsing their products because I don't.
