The anti-aging plan to look and feel like a 10. Today on Dr. Oz, we're tackling the biggest signs of aging from the inside out.
Fine lines, wrinkles, dull complexion, and thinning hair.
Plus, the total 10 just got easier.
Dr. Oz has the shopping list of everything you need.
Stock up on the fundamentals.
It's the next step in dropping those pounds.
Coming up next on Dr. Oz.
Welcome everybody.
All right, all month long, I am showing you how to feel like a perfect 10. That's a proven fact that when you look good, you actually feel good.
So today, it's my ultimate anti-aging plan.
We're going to tackle the biggest signs of aging from the inside out.
I'm talking specifically, go ahead and clap because it's big stuff.
Fine lines, wrinkles, dull complexion, and of course, Thank you again for joining us, as always.
- My pleasure.
- Anti-aging issues are something you argue women have to know about, they have to start acting on now. - Right. - Why is that?
It goes beyond, you know, sunscreen and moisturizer.
We know all that.
But we go into a store and there's a zillion products and a zillion promises.
Today we're going to go back to the basics.
We're going to talk about what you really need to know, what you really need to do, all the science behind it.
You don't have to spend a zillion dollars.
Everything we're talking about is going to be available at the grocery store and the drugstore.
Who wants to see the plan?
Y'all interested in this?
Come on over.
First, we are going to focus on inside out tips and probably the most important thing has to do with how you have your breakfast and your lunch.
So reverse aging from the inside out, you say add berries to breakfast.
Yep.
Why is that so important?
Well, berries have antioxidants, and these are going to fight the free radicals that can cause the cells to age, and they also boost collagen production, which are going to make you look younger.
Not a lot, we're just talking about half a cup of berries.
You know, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries.
It happens to be the exact dose of berries we let you have on the total 10 rapid weight loss program, right?
You want to get that in your morning smoothie.
There's a reason for it.
It's not an accident.
You want those antioxidants.
Okay.
Now, you added something here that I have not talked about before on the show.
It's two tablespoons of wheat germ oil.
You can explain what this is and explain why you want us to use it in our lunches.
Well, wheat germ and its oil are two of the highest naturally occurring vitamin E foods.
And vitamin E is really powerful.
Studies have shown that it can protect the cell walls from damage, which is very important.
And it can also reduce the effects of aging in your brain, your skin, and even your eyes.
Now, the oil, it's delicious.
It's got a very nutty taste.
Which the germ, the powder that you sprinkle on, does not have.
So it's very good.
About two tablespoons, you put it on a salad.
You can drizzle it over vegetables.
It's got sort of like a smoked nutty taste.
It's wonderful.
Yeah, it's really, really good.
And it would be great on the quinoa, which is also part of our total tan plan.
This is fantastic.
I like the fact that it livens it up a little bit.
Okay, next big issue are lines.
People complain about them all the time.
You argue we should minimize our fine lines.
I want to listen carefully.
Liz is saying from now on, forget about the foundations.
Just Toss them away.
You're not using them.
Seems like a big idea.
This is big stuff for women.
How are we going to get rid of our foundation?
But in reality, foundation can be very drying to your skin, first of all.
This is our skin.
Your skin magnified a tiny bit.
Yeah, these are the wrinkles, too.
So foundation, if you'll notice, I'm going to show you what happens in the formulation of a foundation.
It's very, very heavy.
And what happens is it goes down into the wrinkles.
Which makes them look bigger and deeper than they normally do.
This is the exact opposite of what you want to have happen.
This is what women usually do.
Right.
Pour the foundation on there.
Over the course of the day, it just makes everything, it enhances the look of wrinkles and fine lines.
So instead, we're going to recommend, there's two skin types.
So if you have dry skin, we're going to recommend a tinted moisturizer.
And if you have oily skin, something called a CC cream.
Both of these do something.
First of all, they nourish the skin, and then you put them on, and because of the lighter formulation, it glides over the wrinkles.
It doesn't seep down into the fine lines, so you have the nice, glossy foundation to put your makeup on.
Now, both these formulations come in an SPF 30, so if you use that sunscreen, you have sort of everything that you need in one product to make your skin look beautiful and glowing.
So in addition to making your wrinkles look better, we actually want you to erase your wrinkles on this plan.
And the way to do that is to start using retinol creams.
And we've talked a little bit about these over-the-counter creams in the past, but I love the way you just put it together.
So explain to us why it's such a fundamental element.
Well, retinol is very, very exciting.
It's one of the few things that actually has science behind it to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
What it does is it makes the skin, it encourages it to stimulate the production of collagen, which is going to make you look younger.
And a lot of people, though, are very, very worried about this product and they don't give it enough time to work.
If you have sensitive skin, it can give you some side effects.
And so we recommend that you start off slowly.
If you've never used an over-the-counter retinol cream, three times a week.
That's all you need to do it.
And after a few weeks, you really will see a reduction in the look of your wrinkles.
As your wrinkles disappear, you're going to notice your complexion.
Sometimes it looks dull as we get older.
We get sort of that feeling that we're not as vibrant.
And the most important thing here is alpha hydroxy acid.
You can use it as a face wash almost.
How often and why is it so beneficial?
Well, a lot of the cleansers that we use on our face don't actually do a good job of getting the dirt, taking the dirt off your face.
And this can lead to a dull complexion.
Now, an alpha hydroxy acid is a very gentle acid, and it dissolves the dirt that's accumulated over the course of the day, and it also acts as a light exfoliant.
So you're going to use it at night, just once a day, and it's going to exfoliate the skin, which is going to leave a wonderful primer to absorb the night cream that you're about to put on.
When you wake up in the morning, don't cleanse again.
Just do it once a day, because if you wash your face twice a day, that can be overly drying.
A lot of women don't know that.
Are we better off not washing our face at all than washing it too much?
Well, you want to get rid of the dirt because you don't want to clog those pores.
So you want to do it once, but you want to do it as wisely as possible.
And if you want to prevent aging, the alpha hydroxy cream is the way to go.
What about hair?
A lot of women complain that their hair ages.
I mean, again, it's not just the grays.
It's the volume being lost.
The shape is not there.
Yeah, this is such a super easy way to feel and look younger right away.
As we get older, our hair loses its moisture, and we actually get our hair thins.
And so the best way to look younger is to get that bounce back.
You want it to feel lighter.
So to do this, we actually want to bring a pro in.
Celebrity stylist and co-owner of Salon AKS, Susanna Romano is here, along with Susie, who's our very brave volunteer.
How are you, Susie?
I'm good, how are you?
So how does your hair make you feel older than you really should feel?
Well, I'm 45 and it's starting to thin a little bit and it's like you said about the skin, it's dull and it's flat and I just want 30-year-old hair again.
Or I want it to look 30 years old.
Susanna, your first trick is an instant volume one.
Yes.
Like the skin, the hair gets very dry as well.
So a good thing to do is use a dry shampoo on the hair, and that will kind of just fluff it up.
You want to stand back.
Well, thanks for the warning.
I'll stand behind you.
You want to just spray it on the roots.
I'm supervising back here.
Oh my goodness, look at that.
And it looks white when you first spray it, but it will actually dry up any oil at the root.
What is it?
Why does it work so well?
It's a dry shampoo, so it'll make the hair light everywhere else and kind of texturize the scalp.
So you can get more lift and volume at the scalp.
And you just massage it in.
And they have it in colors.
You can do it.
They have it in colors as well for the hair.
Okay, don't ruin my style now.
So they have it in colors as well for the hair.
How do you know what color you're supposed to have?
Blondes, brunettes, that comes in red.
But that went out looking white.
Was that the right color?
Eventually it'll dry out.
It'll dry to her natural color.
Look how much fuller that looks.
Liz, you have another secret.
What's your big surprise for us today?
Well, I guess it would have to be bangs.
I've had bangs my whole life, but a lot of people say that it's obviously a really easy way to cover forehead wrinkles, but if you get the right cut, it can contour your eyes and your cheekbones to make you look five years younger instantly.
Susie, what do you think?
Let's cut them.
Okay.
Cut them?
She is brave.
I want you to look at that.
I can do this, too.
I'm a surgeon.
No.
No?
Like my wife.
No.
No, I don't care.
This is a variation of, like, what Liz has is perfect on her, a full bang.
But on Susie's hair, she's getting the convertible bang, which will frame her face, but it'll also be able to be worn down or back.
That's pretty cool, actually.
So fast.
Yeah.
You want me to do it on you?
I don't have bangs.
I've never had bangs.
You want some bangs for the show?
I don't know if they go on surgeons.
Yeah, it's not.
So giving her that soft, subtle bang.
We have a picture of you before.
I'm just going to go a head-to-head comparison.
If I can.
Let me turn you around here.
So look at that.
Now let's put you side to side.
That's what you were before, and here you are now.
Get out of the way.
I think it's pretty cool.
That is pretty cool.
You look like that perfect 10 now.
You did before too, by the way.
Guys, thank you very much for the advice.
Always wonderful to have you on.
You can get my complete anti-aging plan to look like a 10. It's on DrOz.com.
I want to thank Suzanne and all my guests.
Be right back.
Are you taking part in the Total 10 program?
How do you like it?
I'm doing it and I love it.
I really wanted to boost my energy and this program is helping me with that.
Thanks so much, Dr. Oz.
Share your Total 10 progress on Dr. Oz's Facebook page.
Next, we're breaking it down.
The Total 10 Rapid Weight Loss Plan shopping list.
Easy, affordable ways to shop for the plan.
Everything you need to cook healthier meals and lose that weight fast.
Coming up next.
Break the insomnia cycle.
The 10-day plan to get a good night's sleep.
If you toss and turn, this show is for you.
Dr. Oz's secret formula to fix your sleep issues.
That's coming up tomorrow on Dr. Oz.
Thank you.
The Total 10 Rapid Weight Loss Plan.
I'm happy for it.
I hope you are too.
Today I'm going to make it even easier.
We're breaking down a shopping list of everything you will need.
Now if you're just tuning in, you can get started with us right now.
This is a diet that's been a year in the making.
We have road tested it by you.
People just like you have been using this and giving us feedback about what practically works.
Now Danielle's here to speak for so many of you.
She's been on the plan.
And I called her in because she actually started our diet and has mastered how to shop the plan, which is the focus today.
So before we get to the shopping list, what kinds of results are you having with the plan?
Dr. Oz, thank you so much for having me here today.
I'm so excited.
It has been an amazing year.
I've actually lost 38 pounds as of...
38 pounds!
So here's the before and after.
That's fantastic.
My goodness.
Dr. Oz, I have to say, this is the first plan that actually has worked for me where I've been able to keep the weight off.
I've had a struggle with my weight my entire life, and I've tried absolutely everything.
So, this is amazing.
Thank you.
Well, I want you to share this with us, if you can, those easy ideas.
At the outset, how did you make it easy and affordable?
It's a fairly sophisticated process to buy food, no matter what kind of plan you're on.
Well, I am a mom of four and married, so I've made it a way of life for us.
That's basically how we've done it, and that's it.
You go shopping, you iterate, you add new things.
We do, and I shop a lot of sales.
If something is on sale, I add it.
If it's seasonal, it's usually fresher, better tasting, and cheaper, so I add it.
Come on, we'll do the shopping list together.
Again, I want you here because I want you to give practical advice to folks, things I might miss.
So, the hero is the produce aisle.
You're looking at it right here.
Unlimited non-starchy vegetables.
I'm going to say it again, unlimited.
You can eat as much of this kind of stuff as you want.
No limitations at all, even on snacks you might want to make with these vegetables.
It's an all-you-can-eat plan.
So, Danielle, how did you break down this list?
Because there's so many things you could have started buying.
Well, I must be honest, the first time when I printed out that list, when I started, I bought everything on your list.
That was not practical.
No, not at all.
I didn't like everything on that list.
So then it came to what I enjoyed eating and what my family would actually eat.
Staples on our list are Brussels sprouts, red peppers, because they are sweet and delicious, celery.
Amazing.
Artichokes, garbanzo beans, they are amazing to roast and they give you that crunch.
So then it became what I enjoy eating and what my family will eat as well.
And how do you get the vegetables to last?
Well, I use airtight containers and vacuum seal bags.
That's basically what I do.
And you make use of most everything you buy now?
I do, yes.
It's a pretty efficient system.
Absolutely.
And when do you prepare them?
I do all my prep work on Sundays and Wednesdays, because for me, if it's not prepped ahead of time, I'm going to go grab something out of the pantry that's going to be processed and not good for me.
If it's prepped, I'm going to go in the fridge to eat the healthy stuff.
There you have it.
Simple ideas.
Again, you pick the ones you like the most to start with, then keep adding others, but it's an unlimited amount of food.
Okay, let's move to the protein aisle.
We are, this year, going to double the amount of protein you're allowed to have.
That is amazing, because honestly, six ounces, it satisfied you, but doubling it is going to make this diet so much easier for so many people to do.
Well, we got smarter.
We got feedback from, you know, millions of people.
We can start to incorporate the ideas that you hear over and over again.
So, these are some of the different proteins.
Again, you have 12 ounces of protein a day.
You get chicken, you know, frankly, any poultry is fine.
Turkey, this can be ground or deli sliced.
Fish works well.
You can get it pre-packed or canned.
It saves a lot of money to get it this way.
It's just as good for you.
And eggs are a fantastic opportunity we're giving you because, you know, it gets one ounce of protein per egg, so it's not a ton, but it's a wonderfully inexpensive source of protein.
And I have to be honest, we didn't have eggs on the list before, and I have 18 chickens at home, so eggs are exciting for me.
You have chickens?
We do.
Oh, you can do it.
You can make the poultry from them?
No.
No, I'm kidding.
You never eat your chickens.
Just the eggs.
Just the eggs.
So what tricks have you developed to shop for protein?
Well, I personally really only eat the chicken and the fish, and I do a lot of white fish.
My family does still eat a lot of red meat.
I do not.
But I buy my chicken ahead of time, once a week usually, and I pre-cook it.
My fish I make per meal.
Now, these are just the building blocks, folks.
Tomorrow on the show, I'm going to show you ways to maximize your protein to make literally hundreds of delicious recipes on a total 10 rapid weight loss plan.
So you're not going to be held back.
So I just gave everybody, if that's true for you too, please confirm, Ms. Danielle, the two foundation elements.
The vegetables, all you can eat, and protein, 12 ounces a day, which is a fair amount.
Protein's important because it'll satiate you.
It'll take care of the cravings.
People eat protein and lose weight.
So I want it every meal.
Alright, let's move to the essentials.
This is all the important stuff you're going to add to the protein and veggies.
First, the healthy fats.
Again, if you think about it, you want omega-3s.
It reduces inflammation in the body.
So I want your flaxseed oil to be part of your program.
Olive oil, which you know I already adore.
But this year you can also have coconut oil, which is fantastic to do all kinds of fun things.
You know, marinate the meats in, for example.
Avocados, of course.
Nuts.
I love nuts.
Two handfuls a day.
And you want nut butter.
Not peanut butter.
Almond butter.
It's harder to OD on almond butter, which is why we're recommending it specifically.
Next, I know you can't have a lot of dairy, so I'm going to be unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
And you can also have coconut milk.
Use it in the morning smoothie.
You're a very narrow aisle here for fruit.
We don't give you a lot of fruits.
I want you to take the frozen berries for your smoothie in the morning.
An apple a day we're going to give you this year's extra because people were asking me for it.
But only half a banana a day.
You're going to put it in your smoothie.
It's going to make the smoothie taste like a milkshake.
It gives it that smooth sense that you want.
And again, you can have a lemon to put on some of the other foods or just put it in your warm water if you want it to start your morning off, which a lot of people like to get some on the right step.
Protein powders.
Big change.
I'm not giving you rice protein anymore.
A lot of people didn't like the taste.
We're going to give you whey protein powder this year.
And if you're lactose intolerant, you can try egg white protein powder, which a lot of people like to taste more of anyway.
You want one tablespoon a day in your smoothie.
Not a lot of whole grains.
Very simple concept here.
You can't afford to have a lot of grains in a program like this.
You won't lose the weight well.
You want a box of quinoa.
It's about half a cup a day.
Simple little tip.
And you can use quinoa in almost any way you would use rice.
You're also allowed to have a small cup, six ounces of Greek yogurt.
I love pickles.
You know, it's great for probiotics and prebiotics.
You can have the low sodium vegetable broth.
The hummus, of course, you can have with vegetables if you want.
And people kept asking me, I don't know why, they kept asking me about low-sodium turkey jerky.
And finally, a little something, pumpkins, which are great.
You can use canned pumpkin for a smoothie recipe.
I'm going to give you a bunch of smoothie recipes.
Later this week, which you're going to adore.
That was one of the big tips we wanted to give folks.
More diversity in their meals.
You can use cocoa in any way you want.
You can mix it, for example, with almond milk, with a frozen banana.
It makes you a dessert that gets you out of that bind when you have that craving for sweetness late at night.
And liquid stevia will help also sweeten up stuff without penalizing you.
It's a natural alternative to traditional sugar.
Of all of these, which are you most excited about, Danielle?
Well, excited about the turkey jerky, because I like to chew.
So that actually will give me something nice to chew on.
It's funny, when you develop these programs, and we spend so much time on this, the kinds of feedback you get are so real.
I would never have thought people wanted turkey jerky.
You know how many people wrote to me saying, add turkey jerky?
Because they knew the principles of the plan, they knew it would work for them.
I like, you know, I like that crunch, that chew.
That's why I do the garbanzo beans.
And I don't like the texture and the taste of the Greek yogurt, but I made it into a tzatziki sauce with cucumber and garlic, and I love it now.
There you have it.
Innovate.
Make it better.
Let me know about it, and I'll keep making the program better for everybody.
You can find this grocery list at DrRoz.com.
I want you to print it and take it to the store with you.
you.
We'll be right back.
Next, are you taking antacids to control your heartburn?
What are these pills really doing to your body?
Learn to become less reliant on them to control your pain and discomfort.
All natural ways to alleviate your acid reflux.
Next. .
If I asked anyone at home watching right now to open up their medicine cabinet or even their purse, I'm sure many of you would find one of these.
It's an antacid.
But today we're showing you how you can become less reliant on antacids in order to control your heartburn.
It's something my next guest is desperate to do.
There isn't a moment during the day that I don't suffer, and I'm suffering from acid reflux.
It's a horrible, burning feeling.
The scariest part for me is I don't think it's ever going to go away, and it's gotten progressively worse.
It's at a point where you can't ignore it.
I would say that the pain for me is the worst in the evening.
My best option is to try to sleep on my back.
And I thought, you know what?
I've got to find the right pillow.
So 15 pillows later, I've got the right pillow.
If I have a bland dinner, then I can get away with a feather pillow and be a little more horizontal.
But oh boy, if I have salsa, I'm propping them up.
The pillows are firm.
It's a disaster.
I'm really struggling with trying to manage my diet and my acid reflux.
The foods that really get me going, coffee a little bit, any type of salsa, red wine.
My special spaghetti sauce at Red Sauce gets to me within 15-20 minutes.
It's a killer.
It is a bomb going off in my throat.
I'm 100% totally dependent on antacids.
I usually take something in the morning, lunch, and after dinner, when now I feel like my body doesn't even know how to fight this without the over-the-counter medications.
I would say on any given day, I take around eight or nine antacids.
My biggest concern is damage to my bones, my vocal cords.
I need help trying to figure this out.
I'm scared to death about what I'm doing to myself.
Tricia's here.
Our whole routine is based around heartburn.
So what would a day be like for you if you didn't have to go through this whole protocol?
It's rough.
I always have that burning feeling in my throat and I feel like I'm swallowing constantly, always clearing my throat.
I'm bloated and I feel my stomach churning.
And then at nighttime, I fluff up my pillows and I try to sleep and I know if I don't take any antacid at 2.30 or 3 in the morning, I'm up.
And ultimately, I take that pill.
When I get up at 2.30 in the morning and take the pill, it's almost like I'm guaranteed that I'll sleep a solid four or five hours.
It's worth it.
It's worth it.
I hear a lot of worry in your voice.
Yes.
I saw that in that little tape piece.
Yes.
Are you more concerned about the side effects of this reflux or are you worried about the side effects of the medications you're taking for it?
I'm worried about everything.
I'm worried about damage to my vocal cords.
I'm worried about pre-cancer.
I'm worried about ulcers.
I'm worried about the calcium being pulled out of my bones.
So I'm really worried about everything.
All right, so you've given a list.
Let me tell you this.
I'm going to put you in the truth tube.
You did a couple things.
Obviously, you mentioned problems with reflux and cancers and the like.
So I did want to look in your esophagus to see if you had inflammation down there or maybe something worse.
So I sent you to Dr. Jonathan Aviv, who is a wonderful ENT doctor, to figure out if you did have any erosions of the esophagus.
So let's go back to the truth tube.
And he looked down there and very carefully was able to, and he's at ENT Allergy Associates here in the city, a very good group.
So I really trust his work.
And the good news is your esophagus looks normal.
So you can rest assured there.
That's a big deal for us.
Okay.
Because that's where sometimes cancers arise.
Okay.
And cancers are speeding up there because we're not dealing with this reflex so well.
Okay.
Now you mentioned your vocal cords a second ago.
Yes.
So when Dr. Abid was there, he took a look as well.
What have you been experiencing?
Okay.
I have been singing the same songs for about 20 years now and all of a sudden I'm driving along and I'm singing these songs and I hear my vocal cords rattle and I can't hit certain notes and I'm at certain tones.
I'm not a professional singer but I still like to sing and it really scared me.
I thought, you know what, now I'm seeing damage and it's frightening.
Well, I'm glad you listened to your intuition because he did find something a bit concerning.
Okay.
I'm going to share it with you.
I want everyone to look at this together.
This is what a healthy vocal cord looks like.
This is a box around.
We call it the, you know, vocal cord box.
Okay.
And it's an area that looks normally like this.
Fairly thin structures.
And these are like little violin strings.
Those are the actual vocal cords themselves.
Okay.
I just want you to notice how crisp these structures around it are.
They're holding it in place like it's supposed to be held in place.
Okay.
Now I'm gonna show you yours.
This is Tricia's.
You see how swollen this area is?
It's sort of, not only is it swollen, but it's sort of inflamed looking.
Oh, I see that.
And you see how the vocal cords are also swollen?
They don't have that thin little violin string appearance.
I see that.
So what's happening here is the acid's going up.
Interestingly, not damaging the swallowing tube, which can be resilient, but it's damaging your throat and the vocal cords and all the structures in there, in the larynx.
So how does seeing these physical changes motivate you to change?
I'll do anything.
I'll do anything to change this.
And I found out when I had this procedure that they can reverse this.
It can be reversed, but it's a lifestyle change.
The big story for me here is that you listened to your symptoms, and you kept searching to try to poke at it, and you didn't just tolerate taking those pills and meds for the rest of your life, which is what so many people are doing right now.
And you're right, it's completely reversible, which is the beauty of all these things.
So I want you to find natural ways to alleviate these problems.
Maybe we'll use some meds to support it initially, but the ultimate solution is not to be taking a bunch of stuff every single day.
Right, that's the goal.
That's the goal, and we're going to do it together.
When we come back, a 10-day plan anyone can use to cool off acid reflux.
Stay here.
Next, is heartburn flaring in your chest and throat?
Do you rely on pills and antacids every day?
We're waging a war against reflux with an easy-to-follow 10-day plan to end your suffering for good.
Coming up next...
Break the insomnia cycle, the 10-day plan to get a good night's sleep.
If you toss and turn, this show is for you.
Dr. Oz's secret formula to fix your sleep issues.
That's coming up tomorrow on Dr. Oz.
If you know what it's like to feel your chest is on fire after eating a meal or laying down at night, then this is for you.
We've got a 10-day plan to cool off acid reflux.
Joining us, your surgeon and heartburn specialist, Dr. James Rosso.
Who's this plan right for?
Really, this plan that we're going to give you is for everybody because we have a lot of people with heartburn, and especially those people who are having heartburn not once every now and then or when they go to certain Thanksgiving dinners by relatives, but when you're having it two to three times a week, we've got a problem, and it's going to be for you.
So Dr. Ross says the first phase of this plan is 10 days long, and it is the shock and awe phase.
I like that.
It's nice.
You know why?
Because this is a war against heartburn we're fighting.
So what we're going to do is we're going to rebalance the acid in your stomach so we can cool down that heartburn and you can go on and, girl, do what you meant to do.
You know what I'm saying?
Yes.
All right.
Making plans already.
All right.
First step, just to get back to the specifics here, is to eliminate the heartburn landmine.
So if you can, explain to us what these really are.
All right, look, there are landmines or IEDs, improvised explosive devices that we put in our own lives.
And it starts over there on that red spectrum of the pH, starting with energy drinks.
Oh, really can be bad.
You can go to the caustic seas where you have canned foods that have all the acid in it.
You can have carbonated beverages, chocolate.
Caffeine.
All those things you know you love.
And that's on the red side of the spectrum.
Our goal is to move it to the purple side or the alkaline side of the spectrum.
But you also see there's cereals there.
There are things you wouldn't think.
Processed packaged foods.
They all tend to be acidic.
And added to the already existing problem that you have, it pushes you over the edge.
Okay, so those are the IEDs, the landmines.
Now, what are these purple foods?
Where are the alkaline foods?
Oh, the purple foods are the good foods.
Everybody says that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
And I'll tell you right now, I love watermelon, and I can say that, all right?
And the watermelon and watermelons, I'm a southerner, so I can say that, right?
But those are excellent foods.
Then you have to go over on the Cali side, west side, to avocado, and that's a good choice, too.
The other thing you say we got to do is change the frequency of our meals.
Oh, and that's another important thing.
The number one thing you got to remember in this plan, you can never go hungry.
And for me, that's a good thing.
I mean, I love that, right?
And so, therefore, you got to learn how to eat these small meals frequently each day.
How many meals do you eat a day, usually?
I eat all day long.
I love my groceries.
I probably have six meals a day.
That's actually a good thing.
That's a good thing.
I do.
Come on back.
Let's go through these.
Dr. Ross came up with some sample foods.
And we're going to go through it.
I'm just curious if you recognize any of these kinds of foods.
Because from now on, when you get your meals every two to three hours, which is what Dr. Ross says we have to do, of the alkaline type, it'll look like this.
So you want to plan it out for us?
Oh, yeah.
This is an example of many examples that you can use.
Your goal is to suppress the acid in the morning and get away from those acidic foods.
Come to a spinach and cheese omelet and egg omelet.
That's really good.
Now, you got to have mindful of your snacks.
I tell you, melons are excellent, Dr. Oz, as a mid-meal snacks.
And really, if you have a small portion, it doesn't add as much, you know, calories.
Then as you roll into lunch, Which I'm doing okay until I get to dinner.
But lunch, have a high fiber salad.
And if you really want some protein, you can put grilled fish or shrimp and that sort of thing.
I tell you right now, these nuts have saved me because I've been trying to maintain 160 pound weight loss.
Eat those nuts as a nice little guide for you to decrease the caloric intake while not letting you hungry.
And finally, fish in the evening is excellent.
Cucumbers and other greens are excellent.
And if you can have this diet, especially over the first 10 days, Dr. Oz, of our shock and awe plan, you can get it done.
All right, so we've taken the acid down.
Now let's talk about the meat and potatoes of how we actually ditch the antacids.
This is the scary part.
Okay.
I saw you count out seven, eight, nine of these little pills every day.
Not alone, of course, doing that.
Right.
You're not taking away all the medications, but you're going to help us ditch them one by one.
So explain the protocol, Patricia, and for everybody else like her.
A lot of people like you, Tricia, are on up to three different medicines.
And we have different categories.
Your tablets, chewables, liquids.
That's the first line of defense with antacids.
Then you have your H2 blockers and your PPIs.
The first thing to go Has to be the antacids.
Why?
They're not that good anyway for your problem.
Okay?
And it causes complications.
Kidney stones, diarrhea, and you don't need to roll like that.
All right?
Now, so in the first 10 days, we're going to get rid of this.
Now, if you're on the H2 blocker, Dr. Oz, and the PPIs, we have to hold back on that because there's some withdrawal protocols.
If you take them back too quickly, you can have what we call rebound, and there's a lot more acid that is given.
One other little fact I want you to know, most people don't take these regularly the right way.
And so if you don't take them the right way, guess what?
They don't work for you.
Did you know you had to drink a glass of water after taking your H2 blocker?
Most people don't.
So if it's not working well, that's probably why.
Did you know you had to take your PPI 60 minutes to 30 minutes before eating?
And if you don't, they won't work as well.
So we want to withdraw slowly, starting with the simplest thing first, and then getting the more aggressive medicines, Dr. Oz, off our slate.
You know, I'm surprised, as expert as you are, that you didn't know those issues about timing.
No, I didn't know anything about timing.
This is the first experience with this, and I've done it all wrong.
And with medicines, Dr. Oz, as you know, you and I both know, timing can be everything between working or not working.
So real quick, eat the right food so you don't need the antacids.
Keep the H2 blockers for the first 10 days.
You're going to take these off next, but take them the right way in the meantime.
Same for the protein pump inhibitors.
Okay, now we're going to move to cruise control.
You've done the first 10 days.
Dr. Oz, explain to us what you're going to do for the rest of your life.
You know, let's just be realistic.
I mean, we always start off with this perfect plan, right?
Right.
But we fall off the wagon.
We do.
So anticipate falling off the wagon.
Okay.
Now, when you anticipate, you know you're going to go to your red sauce.
That's it.
You know you're going to go to your crust red chili peppers.
That's me.
Okay.
For every acidic food that you do, you need two alkaline foods.
Okay.
Look over here.
Okay.
So now your avocado, your greens, your oats, and your fruit that are all in that breakfast bar.
It's excellent.
Okay.
Now I want to get to something that's really sensitive, Dr. Oz.
You know we like our alcohol.
And that's right.
We're going to drink our red wine.
We can't have this.
We're going to do it.
But Dr. Oz can have it, see?
Now, let me tell you what you do.
That's cruel.
I mean, I know it's cruel.
That's cruel.
It's not nice.
But he rolls like that at times.
You have to get used to that.
Now, here's what we're going to do.
Take along coconut water with you, and that's your alkaline chaser.
Oh, yeah.
See, I know you like that one.
All right.
All right.
Thank you very much, Bush.
You're welcome.

Susan, Pamela, and Simone are here.
They put this plan to the past, and together they had lost an average of five pounds in just three days.
And in just one word, I want you to describe how you feel differently about your bodies now that you've been on the plan over these last three days.
Healthy.
Radiant.
Slim.
Ooh, all good words to own.
Let me talk about this a little bit.
The biggest complaint I always hear by clients is that they feel more like a detention than a diet, right?
You feel like you're in prison almost.
You did something bad and you're being punished.
This is going to change all that.
Done right, they are exactly what you need to jump into weight loss and they'll make you feel full, satiated, all these adjectives that you're describing.
So, let's go one by one.
I want to hear how you guys did it, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Who wants to go first?
Susan, come on.
Actually, come on all over here.
Susan lost five pounds, representative of the group, and I want to understand how you've changed the way you think about cleanses after participating in the program.
Yes.
You have?
Yes.
So how's it different?
Well, I've tried cleanses before, and I've been unsuccessful, so I was a little bit skeptical, but I absolutely loved the drink, and I've lost five pounds, as you said, in three days, and I'm really excited about it.
I feel really good.
Yeah.
So you said your favorite drink was the breakfast one.
Yes.
This is where you make our biggest mistakes.
So start us off.
What do you make for breakfast now?
Okay, so with the blueberry smoothie, I used unsweetened almond milk, which I've never bought before, and I think it's absolutely delicious, very smooth, delicious.
Lasts forever, by the way.
Does it?
Yes.
Good to know.
Also blueberries and spinach, which I also love, but I just haven't used it in smoothies.
A banana and chia seeds, which is also new to me, and I am such a fan now of those.
And protein powder and cinnamon.
Let's talk about this for a second.
Okay.
Because again, it's fast to make, as you mentioned.
Blueberries, of course, are part of the big plan always because they're nutritional powerhouses and they don't have that much sugar in them.
But the real hero here are the protein sources.
Okay.
You mentioned the powder protein.
Yes.
And we've got a bunch of ones you can choose from.
But the chi is a complete, complete protein and a fiber source.
So you put them together into a blueberry like this and no wonder you feel full for longer.
Yes.
Making it, therefore, less torturous to be on the plan.
And it's a little more fun.
Yes.
Because you can chomp on the cheese.
That's a good point.
You know, I give this to my kids sometimes.
Yeah.
And they like the color.
It's all marketing.
Yes.
You can get kids to eat anything purple, even if it's natural.
Susan, thank you very much.
Thank you.
Next idea has to do with lunch.
And Pamela, you lost how many pounds?
Four.
Four pounds.
Very well.
Yeah.
And you enjoyed the plan?
I did.
It was cool.
So walk me through what your typical lunch was.
Okay, so my typical lunch, I had to saute some onions, and then I had to add some chicken broth, a little broccoli, some of the cayenne pepper that they have here, some lemon as well, and then the cannellini beans, which is new to me.
I never had them before, but they added a little punch to the soup.
And how would this compare to the typical lunch you'd have?
It was very different, but I enjoyed it.
It gave me, like, energy.
Usually halfway through the day, I want to take a nap, but I really wasn't...
I didn't need to do that this time.
Well, a couple things.
First of all, part of the reason you all lost weight is because you had a lot of potassium in this meal, so you get rid of a lot of fluid.
That's what the broccoli offers.
All detoxes ought to do that.
And I particularly love the fact that there's magnesium in the beans.
And that'll give you the energy.
Just get it in your food, and you're good to go.
And all this is Total 10 approved as well.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you, Dr. Ike.
And finally, Simone, you lost six pounds, is that right?
Six pounds, yes.
No wonder you love this.
So explain dinner, which is where so many of us trip up.
Well, dinner was really good, first of all, because I'm not really a soup person, but I absolutely love the soup.
First, you take your onions and your garlic.
You saute it up in a little bit of olive oil.
So you cook that for about five minutes.
Then you're going to add your broth and your curry paste, the red curry paste.
You cook that for about maybe 20, 25 minutes.
You let it simmer.
Then you take it off the stove.
You pour your coconut milk in.
You put in your blender.
You blend it up.
Put it in your nice favorite bowl.
Then you swirl some Greek yogurt in there.
Voila.
Delicious.
You're like a chef with this soup.
I like to cook, yeah.
Let's talk about this a little bit.
First, the soups are good for you in general for cleanses because they're easy on the bowels, but they actually satiate you incredibly.
Carrots, you all know, is good for you.
The real heroes here are the curry paste you mentioned and garlic.
These are ancient medicinal foods.
In fact, they're the oldest ones on the planet.
And they're critical for detoxing the body, which is why I wanted to put it in the plan.
And I gather this is pretty easy to stay on.
It looks like it tastes good.
Yeah, I love that it was hearty because it's not soupy, like waterish, but it's delicious.
You know, I'm going to not just toast you for making this.
Oh, thank you.
But for making something you can enjoy and stay on for as long as you need.
Thank you.
To all you guys, congratulations.
Thank you.
Listen, you can get all these recipes who are a part of an even bigger full seven-day eat it or drink it plan.

That's coming up tomorrow.
We are nearly one week into the new year, and I know that a lot of you are starting to struggle with your resolution.
So here's my best tip to keep you on track.
I want you all to find a resolution buddy.
Multiple studies have shown that accountability and support helps folks reach their goals successfully.
So I want you to phone a friend or even better, you can be a real New Year's nudge and tag your friends on this picture that I'm putting on my Facebook page or get them to be your resolution buddy.
You can urge them along.
Now it's time for in case you missed it.
First, Look like a 10 with my anti-aging plan.
We talked about it today.
Simple, easy fixes like the one you use to minimize fine lines.
You do that by throwing out your foundation.
You heard me right.
A lot of women do this.
They get this foundation and they take these lines that they have.
This is your skin with exaggerated lines on them.
I magnified it.
And they make the problem worse by pouring this stuff on there.
And of course, when you do that, not only does it cake up and not look so good, but it doesn't actually allow you to hide the lines.
Frankly, all it does is accentuate them.
It makes them seem deeper and bigger.
You don't want a result like that.
You want something nice and dainty.
The kind of result you'll get if you switch from your foundation that you used to use to a tinted moisturizer.
And if you have oily skin, you can use CC cream.
And that will give you a result that looks like this.
Nice and elegant.
And everyone's going to be saying, my goodness, what happened to your wrinkles?
And it's just about changing your foundation.
Give you all the desire you need with the glow that you want as well.
This week I also rolled out our biggest and simplest program for shaping up ever.
It's called the Total 10 Rapid Weight Loss Plan.
And today I broke down a shopping list of everything you need with women who've been on the plan and can cut out all the wasted time and effort and money.
Now in the produce aisle, you're going to find the real heroes of the plan.
You have the freedom to eat an unlimited amount of these non-starchy veggies.
The ones that you like are the ones you're going to stay on, so pick the ones you like the most.
Try new ones each week to add.
And this year, we're actually doubling the amount of protein in the plan, so I've got a lot more options here as well.
We took the feedback you gave us from the great plan that we had over millions, actually more than two million people on last year.
You can tune in tomorrow for some mouth-watering recipes that will help you savor the flavor of your chicken, turkey, fish, and eggs.
And don't forget to pick up the essentials like almond and coconut milk.
You can get all the nut butters, not peanut butter, things like almond butter.
Quinoa, of course, is your only grain that you're allowed, so savor it.
You can get canned pumpkin and cocoa new additions to help jazz up the program that you're going to stay on.
