Celebrity Superfan Takeover: Kathie Lee Gifford | Dr. Oz | S11 | Ep 121 | Full Episode
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
Every Friday on Oz, it's Celebrity Superfan Takeover.
This week, it's Kathie Lee Gifford.
Gosh, I missed the applause.
Together, they're investigating hair loss scams targeting women.
The product's promising to take your hair from this.
Oh, yeah.
And Kathie Lee is looking for a new love, so we're helping her find one on the Dr. Dating Game.
What is your favorite body part and why?
So I am pretty partial to tails.
Coming up next...
It's Friday, and that means another celebrity superfan takeover.
Today, we need someone really amazing.
I'm going to check the prop room.
Anyone here want to co-host?
Any co-hosts in here?
Yeah, I'll do it.
I'll do it.
I'm just trying to help Bigfoot here.
Boy, does he have a fungus.
Anything you can do for his fungus?
We'll do a little pedicure here, but will you host with me?
Please tell me yes.
I got nothing else to do.
Oh, let's go.
Are you ready for season 11?
Yeah!
There she is!
Hello!
Good morning!
Hi, everybody.
Welcome, everybody.
Good morning, everybody.
Yes, everybody.
Hi.
How are you?
Thank you.
She made it, Dad.
I made it.
Oh, my God.
Wow.
Oh, my goodness.
Gosh, I missed the applause.
Oh gosh.
Hello, Dr. Oz.
Well, they adore you.
I have royalty next to me.
Royalty.
Oh, thank you.
Hardly, but thank you.
So many things have gone on.
And I gotta say, do you get to get up in the morning now, have coffee, enjoy yourself, rather than slaving it to the Today Show?
No, I'm working harder than ever, I think.
I really am.
But the difference is I'm working at what I've been waiting to work at my whole life.
So one of my biggest dreams is actually watching my kids share the values that I try to give them with their kids.
Absolutely.
And you're getting closer to that.
Big developments over this past week.
Yes, I was just out in Los Angeles with both of our kids, and I say ours because of course they're Frank's and mine, but both of them getting married this year.
Three months apart this summer.
There's Cody and his beautiful bride-to-be, Erica Brown, and that's Cassidy with her fiance, Ben.
I've lost them to Southern California, but that's okay.
I know where to find them when I need them.
They fit in perfectly, though.
Yeah, they do.
I just can't wait to your grandma.
Because you're going to be able to do all kinds of fun things.
Glamour.
Glamour.
You'll be everything glamorous always.
But before I get to those topics that are profoundly critical, I want to talk about one that I personally am very enamored by.
I've developed a deep love affair for you and Hoda because you guys were BFFs.
Yes.
Bombing each other.
Yes, yes, yes.
And I know that, although I miss you a lot, she misses you even more.
So I had the opportunity to ask her about you recently.
Oh, no, you're going to make me cry.
This is on the set of today's show.
Take a look.
Kath!
Wait a minute.
What are you doing with Dr. Oz?
Aren't you supposed to be with me?
I miss you.
Your heart, your soul, all of you, your everything.
Look what I drink now at 7. Don't look.
I know what's in that gift.
Oh my God, your rosé is killing me.
I love you.
Love her, love her, love her.
Look at her with her red lipstick and her long hair.
Love looks good on you, Hoda.
Doesn't it?
Love looks good on everybody.
It does.
It colors us in.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, in a world where so often we're talking about conflict, it was special for all of us.
I put myself in that category because you started the year before we started.
And I used to watch your show and think, you know, these guys are best friends already.
They were on the air.
You could see that connection that is iconically important to all of us.
You know, it wasn't instant.
I liked her instantly.
It's impossible not to like Hoda instantly.
But love takes time.
And we started sharing our everyday lives together.
I started taking her to Broadway every Wednesday.
We'd have lunch and then go to a Broadway show.
And the first one, I think, was at Lincoln Center.
And it was South Pacific.
And the guy's singing, Some enchanted evening.
And to watch Hoda go, That song's from this?
Ha ha ha!
That's from this?
She just had no idea.
So it was just so fun to share something brand new together and to watch her learn to truly respond to her own God-given gifts and her instincts as a performer.
Because she was Dateline Hoda, and I made her into, you know, happy hour Hoda.
You know, I tried to anyway, and as you can see, it worked.
So one of the things that I've loved talking to you about over the years is your perspective on faith and how it changes how you look at your day-to-day life.
You actually, I caught this little post you had from Kanye West Church Service in California, which is, I gotta say, everyone is paying attention to this now.
Yes.
And this cell phone video, just take a quick look at it that I want to ask you what was going on.
Okay.
Like I got a friend that...
This takes all day battling racism on Twitter.
But then we can have demons that we're dealing with that we don't want to face up to and we'd rather aim all of our anger outside before looking in the mirror.
So today we need to look at ourselves.
and see how the love of Jesus and the truth of Jesus, and by following the word, we can be saved from ourselves.
Amen.
Okay.
So important, right?
Aim our anger outside rather than looking at the mirror.
It's much easier to make ideas work about a city than changing yourself.
Well, that's the hardest thing to change is a human heart, isn't it?
Especially when it happens to be beating a new, you know?
But the thing about Kanye is, of course, everybody's known him from his past.
And I was worried about Kanye at the very beginning of this because I'd seen some really bad behavior from Kanye.
At our studio.
And when I found out that Kim was just starting to go out with him, I called Chris and I said, Chris, please tell me, please tell me that she's not really going to fall in love with Kanye because it's just, I could just see trouble down the road, you know?
And she says, oh, Kathy, you don't know his heart.
And I said, no, I don't.
I've just seen what I've seen.
And from what I've seen now in their inner world, it's completely and totally real transformation.
He is a complete and transformed new creature in Christ now.
And there was not one bit of ego in that entire 90-minute church service.
One of the challenges I think we all face is there's a lot of folks who carry baggage around how they were exposed to religion, faith, and their lives.
Our species wouldn't be here today without some belief in an entity bigger than us.
So what are these services doing to take us back to that space, to open us up to that possibility?
Well, he's redefining what the word church means.
We, in our Western culture, have come to believe that a church means a building.
Church means where you go one time a week for one hour and sort of have a religion.
And that's the exact opposite of what church is.
The word for church in the Greek actually means movement.
It's a movement.
And the word Christian really just means little Christ.
We're just supposed to be Jesus on this earth.
And Jesus said, love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Everybody's our neighbor.
Everybody.
So you're coming out of this incredible, from what I can gather, deep, moving, soulful event that Kanye's organized.
You're with him, Kim, and Chris.
And Kourtney was there.
And you're leaving the event, and you hear what the entire planet heard, which is that Kobe, Brian, had gone missing.
No, we didn't hear that at all.
We just knew that a helicopter had gone down.
We did not know at all until we got to Kylie's house and went in and then it hit the wires.
And they had just spent New Year's Eve with Kobe and his beautiful wife Vanessa.
So they were close personal friends.
I had only met Kobe once.
He was not a close personal friend.
But I was so happy to hear later that he and his daughter had gone to Mass that morning at 7 a.m.
Yes, they had.
And I'm just grateful that they had that before they went to see him face to face.
I'll tell you, one thing that struck me, I love numbers.
Yeah.
But on Monday, it's the 24th of February.
Uh-huh.
And that's a very important number because, and that's when Kobe's memorial is going to be.
Right.
I don't know if you know this, but yeah, but starter number is two for everybody else out there.
Kobe's number is 24 for all the basketball fans.
And the 20, obviously, is this year.
So two, 24, 20 will be the significance of that day for us forever as we celebrate a great man.
I think it also reminds us the power we have to act right now and then that power one day will go.
You know, my prayers are never for the ones who are gone because they're with God.
I believe that with all my heart.
My prayer is for the living.
They have to live as our family did and every family has to with the loss of someone dear and precious to them and a mom who's going to have to try to make sense.
She will get up every day though fueled by her need to be there for her children and God will give her the strength for that too.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
All right, up next, we're going to investigate something very different.
What?
We're going to do the hair.
We're talking about hair in a big way.
Actually, hair restoration scams.
It's become a really big business to prey on women's hair loss insecurities.
Yes, it has.
And you know what?
You're going to learn which hair restoration products do and do not really work.
This is so important.
Don't get scammed.
She studied up on this.
Yeah, but I can hardly see that.
Has your life changed for the better because of this?
My hair loss started at 17. I know what it feels like to have thin hair.
I have tiny little hairs growing.
They're coming!
All right, so it's time to make your choice.
Difficult as it is.
Do they all make house calls?
I'm back with my beloved co-host, Kathy B. Gifford.
And we're investigating hair loss scams targeting you, targeting women.
Products promising to take your hair from this, which is not bad.
Watch this.
Oh yeah!
That's right.
What does that mean to a woman, Kathy, to have hair like this?
It means a lot.
It really does.
From the time we're little girls with our hairbrushes in the mirror, it's a lot about our hair.
Maybe a little too much.
We've let our culture define us a little too much by our hair.
And then when we start to lose it, it can be really, really a devastating thing.
And when you are in pain, what happens?
People prey on you sometimes.
Right.
Their businesses are going after the shame and the embarrassment that a lot of women feel about thinning hair.
So we're gonna deal with that today.
Because they're ideas that work really well and they're not so good ideas.
Okay.
So, come on over.
All right.
What do you think about women being duped out of their hard-earned mind?
It makes me furious.
Yeah.
They use a lot of celebrities' faces and stuff for all kinds of creams and things like that.
They've used you as well.
And when they use our likenesses to sell a product and then don't even deliver the product or the product doesn't deliver what they say, it's infuriating.
Please check everybody and make sure that these things are legitimate.
Well, Marianne is a good example for us.
Hi, Marianne.
Kathy, nice to meet you.
Pleasure.
So when did you start to notice that you were losing your hair?
Probably about ten years ago.
Okay.
So your first reaction was?
Shock.
Because I had really long, thick hair.
Well, the hair you still have is quite beautiful.
A little bit.
Thank you.
Thank you.
So what have you tried?
Have you tried everything?
I've tried many.
Vitamins, oils, coconut oil.
You name it.
Vitamins, you name it.
Everything.
And everything that says hair growth and nothing has worked.
Nothing has worked.
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
What are we going to do for her, Doctor?
Have you ever spoken to a physician about hair?
Yes.
No one has any answers.
I've been to quite a few.
So I'm gonna throw some ideas out today.
Okay.
First I want to talk about the ideas that I don't want you trying, because they're the easy ones to catch you on, because they promise you everything, and nothing is gonna offer you everything.
But their ideas, when cobbled together, can make the pieces of the pie come together.
Okay?
Yes.
All right, so take me to this.
All right, so, we're gonna talk to Dr. Wolf.
She's squeezing my head.
I know.
Don't be scared, sweetie, don't be scared.
So we've got top hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Michael Welfeld, here.
He's going to teach us how to spot the scams, identify the ones that actually are problematic, and then some ideas that might work for us.
Let's start with hair loss products to avoid.
And first, anything that says it's going to unblock your follicles.
Have you ever heard that, Marianne?
We're going to unblock you?
No.
That's a big one right now.
Kathleen's point, they have pictures of people saying, hey, this is the best.
There'll probably be one today of me promoting these products, even though I have nothing to do with any of these things.
And these, I don't think, really work.
How did this idea get a start?
So there are products that are out on the market that do claim that they unblock your follicles, that people have buildup of sebum, and they may clear up the sebum to allow your hair to grow out.
That you really have to be much more careful.
So we've got this little high-tech demo here.
So a normal hair, just bring one out here if you don't mind.
So well done.
You get the hair coming out there.
It's beautiful.
It's elegant.
And then you see how there's sebum here blocking these ones?
Yes.
But you're not pushing that hard, are you?
No.
The remarkable thing is growing hairs coming out of follicles are essentially unstoppable.
So these things I don't think are worth the money that we spend on them.
And they often charge you a fair amount.
Exactly.
A lot.
So the real cause of hair loss?
So the most common cause of hair loss is genetics, or what we refer to as androgenetic alopecia.
So your hair follicles may be pre-programmed over your lifetime to die at some point.
So what I tell patients is to look at their parents, look at their mother and their father, and that will give a good sense of where they are and what their hair loss pattern may be.
All right, so come on over.
One last idea here.
This is not really a scam.
Thank you.
But it's a proceed with caution.
Oh boy.
It's called red light therapy.
So come have a seat, Kathleen.
Let me help you with this.
Yes.
It's a cool little thing.
I was actually introduced to this concept to me by a friend.
Let's just see.
I'm curious if it really works or not.
Yeah.
You feel anything growing in there?
I see it all the time.
Not yet.
Not yet?
Not yet.
It's darn attractive, isn't it?
It's pretty.
It's pretty.
How does this thing work?
And was I given the right advice to try it?
It may work.
For some patients it does work.
So it's low level light therapy and what happens is that there's light diodes and your hair follicles may absorb some of that light and it increases the metabolism of the cells in your hair follicle and may allow your hair growth cycle to increase and allow your hair to grow longer and a little bit thicker as well.
So this, it's on the cusp.
We're not sure about this one, right?
Yeah, so it's not one of the FDA-approved treatments.
FDA cleared for safety, but it's not necessarily approved for efficacy.
Efficacy.
Yes, doctor.
Efficacy, sir.
Yeah.
Yeah, but some patients have some benefits from it.
And how long do you have to sit under this thing?
So usually it's about six minutes a day, every day, and you can use it at home.
But you have to be careful.
They're expensive, and before you make that investment, you want to ensure you're buying something that may help you.
About $700.
You bought one?
No, I've seen them online.
Try it on.
I have.
Try that on.
Okay, if it's on the ground.
Of course, the blue goes with your eyes.
Yeah.
Keep that, try that.
A lot of these things, trial and error.
Again, if it's safe and it's not too expensive, in this case it's free, give it a shot.
Then when we come back, I want to talk about some of these I'm really excited about.
The hair loss treatments that actually do work, including a revolutionary experimental treatment that made this woman's hair go from this to this.
Oh yeah.
Okay.
That's pretty big, isn't it?
Yeah, that's a good difference.
Stick around.
The latest news on the case of the missing girls on the bridge.
We know at least three people that know what happened that day.
What investigators now know.
It's rare to get audio like this.
Listen carefully.
That's coming up on Tuesday.
Stephanie Gifford and I are back investigating hair loss scans targeting women because by age 50 over half of you could experience thinning hair.
Are you looking for a fix?
Yeah, and this doesn't mean full-blown balding, but more, you know, a subtle thinning.
Like your part gets a little wider or you notice some patches on your scalp.
It's very upsetting.
These are upsetting.
And I was just talking to experts getting ready for the show.
Right.
Probably more, I would guess, more than half of all the women who are suffering could get some benefit if you pay attention to these solutions we're about to discuss.
Great.
So let's get to it.
The most important principle is you gotta understand how these things work.
So the first idea, it's a big breakthrough, it's called DHT. Have you heard of that?
Yes, because we rehearsed this morning.
Yes, that's why she heard of it.
She's such a good student.
Yes.
So, DHT causes hair loss.
Why?
Testosterone, the male hormone you all know about, right?
It's in women too.
And this testosterone gets converted to DHT. Just a cousin of the same testosterone.
And that DHT binds to receptors in your scalp follicles.
Now, these scalp follicles are robust, beautiful things.
When they're bound to, overwhelmed by DHT, they shrivel up.
When the follicle is shriveled, it's impossible for them to get healthy hair out.
So, the little itty bitty fuzzy hair falls out and you're left with nothing.
They give up.
They give up.
They throw the towel in, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Which we don't want.
No.
So, that DHT issue is really, really critical.
Top Hair Restoration Surgeon Dr. Michael Wolffold is back.
There are a lot of products out there who are cashing in on the fact that we know DHT, this cousin of testosterone, poisons your hair follicles.
How do you know if you're getting the real deal?
I'm hearing about blocking it and transferring it and all these other chemical things that may not be real.
Right.
So there are a lot of products out there that are claiming they block DHT. So you really have to be careful of what you're buying and what you're looking at.
So there are proven medications that inhibit the conversion of testosterone and decrease the amount of DHT, such as finasteride is one of them.
And those are FDA approved and those can help to treat thinning hair and help to thicken up your hair as well.
So finasteride is FDA approved for men.
Some people use it off-label for women, especially post-menopausal women.
You don't want to give it to women of childbearing age because it can cause birth defects, so women should not use it.
But post-menopausal women, off-label, there may be a benefit.
Okay.
Ask the docs.
Okay, so we got the Fidestride.
It's a pill.
Simple to take, right?
But then there's this thing that women are approved to use called Minoxidil.
You've all heard about that.
That's been around forever.
Exactly.
Why does it work?
What are the different ways of getting it?
I know there's a foam version, which gets all over everything.
Right.
So there's two different formulations.
There's a solution and a foam.
They're both FDA approved for men and for women.
So the issue with the foam is that it has a little bit more difficult time getting into your scalp, and it really has to reach your scalp to have a clinical benefit.
The solution, it comes in a little medicine dropper, and that you can really get it into your scalp a little bit better.
Massage it in a little better.
You massage it in, you wash your hands afterward, you have to apply to a dry scalp, and then you have to leave it in place for approximately four hours before you wash your hair.
Okay, that said, there's some new ideas out there.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much.
Come into my office over here.
We have an experimental new hair loss restoration surgery.
It's completely painless coming over.
Darlene had it done recently.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
How are you?
So we've got a picture of you from before Darlene.
Can I show it?
Yes.
This is before and this is after.
Yeah.
That's a big difference.
Yeah, how soon after was that Darlene?
There were three treatments altogether a month apart and I'm already feeling results.
That's great.
So Dr. Gary Linkoff is your physician that you did the treatment.
Yes.
So again, I would think something like this nature should be widely distributed, widely available.
How dangerous is hair restoration surgery before we get to what you did with Darlene?
Sure.
As a hair transplant surgeon, I can tell you there are real risks.
So pain, bleeding, infection, scarring, both physical and sometimes emotional, and poor aesthetic outcomes that can be difficult to correct.
And hair transplant surgery has evolved and has improved, but that's still surgery and it still carries all those risks.
What did you do to Darlene that got that great result?
How is it safe?
Basically, I combine two different types of non-invasive modalities.
The first is PRP, which is platelet-rich plasma.
So that's basically taking someone's blood, isolating the platelets.
The platelets have growth factors that stimulate the hair to grow.
So I combine that with a needle-less type of technology called jet peel, and that allows the PRP to infiltrate through the skin without actually touching the skin to a depth of two millimeters.
So this video, she's doing this right now.
Exactly.
I'm just curious if this hurts or not, Darlene.
Yeah, Darlene, are you aware that you know it's happening?
Are you feeling it?
Can I tell you, it's almost like having your house power washed, but with absolutely no pain.
No pain?
No pain, no.
Not even afterwards when you were recuperating?
Absolutely not.
Wow.
Well, I have to say that this procedure has given me hope.
Yeah.
Because I know, my hair loss started at 17. And so I knew, you know, I know what it feels like to have thin hair.
And every time someone glances at your scalp, even after all these years, you feel it, you know?
God bless you.
God bless you.
Thank you.
That's why these segments are so important to me, because when there are things that help one in ten people, then, you know, you sort of walk away dejected.
But if more than half of the folks can be benefited in some capacity, it's one of the things we talked about today.
Yes.
Go control your destiny.
I have tiny little hairs growing.
They're coming.
And they're going to grow into bigger hairs, and I'm very excited about that.
Because that's so exciting.
We'll be right back, everybody.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I appreciate it.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Bachelor doctor number one.
What is your favorite body part on a woman?
What is your favorite body part and why?
Well, casually, I'd have to say the gluteus maximus.
I have plenty of reasons for that.
One, it's the strongest muscle in the body, but also doubles wonderfully as a pillow.
Annabelle, there you are.
Meet Claire.
Claire Hollings, this is Annabelle Wilson of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Very nice to meet you.
And congratulations.
Thank you.
Are you enjoying Scotland?
Oh, what's not to love, right?
It's just spectacular.
Annabelle fixed my plumbing.
Oh, look, Howard, it was just a pick-up.
Yeah, but she fixed it so well.
Annabelle and her husband Fred used to run a hardware store in Nantucket.
She can fix anything.
Really?
And is your husband here with you?
No, sadly, he...
He passed away a little over a year ago.
Oh, so sorry.
She's a very interesting way of working through her grief.
Tell her what you...
Howard, no.
No, Claire doesn't want to talk about me.
This is a very happy time in your life.
I remember happy.
You think it's never gonna end?
That's a clip from Kathleen's new movie she's making for widows.
You heard me right, made it for widows and widowers.
Not just widows.
No, but everybody.
But it talks about an issue.
It's called Then Came You.
You wrote the movie.
Yes.
You produced the movie.
Yes.
You felt passionate about it.
Yes.
And let's talk about why widows, why widowers.
Oh, you know what?
I had been working with Craig Ferguson, whom I adore.
And he said, look how do you just write a movie together.
So I went home and wrote it that night.
We were going to do it together.
I called him the next day.
I said, you know that movie we were going to write?
I think I wrote it.
You want to hear it?
And literally, a year later, we shot it in Scotland.
And our announcement very, very soon is coming very soon.
And we shot it in six weeks in Scotland.
There are 17 million widows in America, 5 million widowers.
Nobody makes movies for people like that.
This is a romantic comedy for people who believe that romance will never happen to them again, and nothing's funny anymore.
So that's a lot of people out there, and he gives a performance the likes of which he's just, he's my dream leading man, I adore him.
Everyone deserves a second chance at love.
Oh, and third and fourth.
Fourth, yeah.
On and on and on.
Yes.
It's a gift that keeps giving.
Amen.
All right, are you ready?
Talk about something really serious.
What are you doing to me today?
Are you open to dating?
Yes, I have been dating.
You have been?
I have been for the last seven months or so.
I know.
With various amounts of success.
So we've decided to bring eligible men to you.
I like that.
And they're not just any bachelors.
They're all doctors because, of course, this is the Dr. Oz show.
So for the first time ever, we're about to play...
The Dr. Oz Dating Game.
Three eligible single MDs are behind that wall.
They're ready to answer all your appropriate questions.
They are young like you requested.
Yes, I didn't request young, but I'll take them.
Stop arguing.
Are you ready to get started?
I'm ready to play.
I'm nervous.
Are you guys nervous?
They can't speak.
Don't speak.
The audience is nervous.
Yeah.
Okay, so you're going to ask some questions, but first I want to meet the contestants.
When the time is up, you have a time limit.
You must choose one of these eligible doctor bachelors.
For what?
We'll figure that out later.
Let's start by having each single doctor say hello to you.
Doctor number one is known as the hunk.
He's an ER doctor and former U.S. Army Ranger.
You like that.
Featured on the cover of Men's Health magazine.
Wow.
So while he has a serious commitment to fitness, he also has a serious commitment to his work, having done charitable work on four different continents.
Dr. Wan, please tell, actually, please greet Kathleen and tell us which charity you are playing for.
Hi, Kathy Lee.
Wonderful to meet you.
I gotta admit, I'm a little bit of a fan.
I'm touch nervous.
But I will be playing for Children International.
And what they are is a global organization that is working to end the cycle of poverty through empowerment, basic healthcare programs, education, and employability.
And hoping to win so we can do a little more good with them.
Doctor number two, also known as the hero, he's a sought-after cosmetic dentist who loves to put a smile on the face of someone less fortunate, providing pro bono care to those in need and bringing confidence back into their life.
Please tell Kathie Lee who you are playing for.
Good afternoon, Kathie Lee.
How are you?
Good, thank you.
How are you?
Sounds like you have a big smile on your face now.
I do now.
So I'm playing for a program that gives dental care for the victims of domestic violence.
So this will give them a second chance in life.
That's wonderful.
Oh my goodness.
Alright, let's meet the third doctor.
He brings the heart, volunteering and caring for some of the tiniest little critters that make our heart feel so full.
He's great at being, well, reading nonverbal cues, especially since his patients, listen carefully, can't talk.
This veterinarian has been called Top Dog.
Go ahead, tell Kathleen who you're playing for.
I'm playing for VegCares, which is through my company, Veterinary Emergency Group, for pets in need that need additional emergency care when costs are extremely high.
Oh, that's great.
That's wonderful.
Take it away.
All right.
Bachelor doctor number one.
What is your favorite body part?
Not on you, but on a woman.
What is your favorite body part and why?
Well, Kathie Lee, I'd have to say the gluteus maximus.
I have plenty of reasons for that.
One, it's the strongest muscle in the body, very important in running and jumping, but also doubles wonderfully as a pillow.
And I got to say, Kathie Lee, me gusta tu culo.
Hey, what'd he say?
Please translate.
I don't think I should.
I'll use my imagination.
Can you add something to that bachelor doctor number two?
Yes, so I think the most attractive part of a person is their mouth.
It's the way the lips roll against their teeth, the way they speak, the way they kiss, and other things.
So I'll keep it at that.
And other things!
Gosh, good luck, number three.
So I am pretty partial to tails.
But I would have to say that a woman's eyes are my favorite.
If you're gonna fall in love with a woman, you have to be in love with her eyes, as those will never change.
Okay, great answers, guys.
All right, Doctor, number one, what age do you think is a woman at her very sexiest?
So Kelly, I think what makes a woman sexy is kind of her confidence, how she carries herself, who she is.
With that, I have an incredibly broad range.
So as long as a woman is comfortable, you all have kind of your own unique beauty.
And honestly, I'm a fan of a pretty broad range of it.
Okay, number two.
Are we out of time?
We're out of time.
That music means we've got to take a break.
When we come back, Kathie Lee reveals which doctor she wants to date.
Plus, some wise words of dating advice from Kathie Lee's very closest friends.
Find out who it is when we come back.
Hi Kathie, it's Chris.
I just wanted to give you a little dating advice before you pick your doctor.
So just remember to pick somebody who has an enormous...
We're back with my co-host, Kathie Lee, who is looking for love on the doctor dating game.
Kathie is about to reveal which DACA she's going to choose as the most eligible DACA. We're going to make a little donation to the winner's charity of choice.
But before we do, we've got a little surprise for you.
A very close friend of yours insisted, demanded to offer some dating advice before you made your final choice.
Are you ready?
Oh, good.
I could use it.
Yeah.
Take a look.
Hi Kathy, it's Chris.
I just wanted to give you a little dating advice before you pick your doctor.
So just remember to pick somebody who has an enormous heart and a really big personality.
And I'll tell you what my daughters used to tell me.
Don't embarrass me!
I wouldn't think of it, my darling Chris.
No, okay.
I like the outfit.
She's so great.
She's the chicest.
Who's the chicest?
All right, so it's time to make your choice.
Difficult as it is.
Do they all make house calls?
They all make house calls.
These people are infatuated with you.
Oh, well, they don't know me.
Okay, so you know what?
They're all delightful.
I'd like to go out with all three of them, but I think I'm going to go with Bachelor Doctor number three.
Number three!
So before you be the doctor of your choice, I'd like you to meet the other doctors that you didn't choose.
Doctor number one, please meet Dr. Jed Ballard.
Come on over, Jed.
Oh, my goodness.
Well played, Jed.
Well played.
Rats.
You look great.
You're adorable.
All right.
Doctor number two, Dr. Daniel Rubenstein.
Hi.
How are you?
Good to meet you.
Good to meet you.
Wow.
These are all very young.
I know.
They're really...
I know.
They could be my son.
All right, let's...
You asked for young.
You insisted on it.
I didn't ask.
It was in your contract.
Okay.
All right, here's who you did choose.
Please meet Dr. Casey Smallwood, doctor number two.
Thank you.
And nice to meet you, too.
How are you?
Good, how are you?
Michael?
Absolutely.
This is Brody.
Well, I think we all look adorable together.
You look wonderful.
What's your name?
Brody.
Brody.
It's his birthday today.
Hello, happy birthday.
Now, is he a golden doodle baby?
Yeah, I have one named Lola.
Oh, really?
She's 80 pounds.
I have not attempted to...
Just a little bit bigger.
Yeah, marriage made in heaven.
How old are you, may I ask?
I'll be 28 next month.
That's all right.
I'm three 22-year-olds.
We'll work out.
We'll be okay.
We'll be okay.
Nice to meet you.
So why do you think he was the most eligible bachelor?
I don't know.
They were all lovely.
They were all lovely.
Just something sweet about him.
Just an extra sweet.
Extra sweet.
I like when he said he liked the tail the most.
Like, well, yeah.
Favorite part of a woman was the tail.
Yes.
We're going to be making a donation to the Veterinary Emergency Group on behalf of you.
God bless you.
Congratulations to all the contestants today for being great sports.
On Good Cause, of course.
Hathalie Lee's going to head backstage to get to know this contestant a little bit better.
I am!
At the end of the show.
I'm going to need to see an ID! She'll be back here.
She's got her personal spiritual mantra that will change your life today.
So stick around.
The Sahara Desert.
Airplanes way up in the sky.
Even your own living room.
What do they all have in common?
They may be drying out your skin or even making your wrinkles appear worse.
So, how can you protect your skin from these drying elements?
Ole Principal Scientist, Dr. Froko Nozio is here on behalf of my trusted sponsor partner, Ole.
She's going to help us out.
Thanks as always for being here and bringing science to the discussion.
You tested these conditions and many more in order to figure out what really dries out our skin.
What did you find?
So, well, we know that the relative air humidity in the Sahara Desert is around or below 25%, making it one of the driest places in the world.
So we took a little humidity meter with us on a couple of locations just to see what was going on.
First, we brought it with us on a plane, and we found that the air humidity was as low as 16%.
Lower than the Sahara Desert?
Way lower, way lower.
Very typical for planes, right?
Now then we took another recording in a New York City apartment.
So, okay, the recommended relative air humidity level in your home in the winter is between 30 and 50 percent.
This New York City apartment, 17 percent.
1-7.
Right?
That means you all live in places drier than the Sahara Desert.
This is shocking.
And then I want to do a little live reading right here in your studio.
Shall we look at how dry it is here?
Sixteen percent!
Not good!
So what this shows...
You're shriveling up as I speak.
Look at them.
You look like raisins out there.
So what this shows is, right, that indoor air can be really, really drier than the Sahara Desert, and that's very tough on your skin.
So it's especially important to have that good skin care routine in the dry winter months.
Explain to us how the dry weather, the low humidity, actually causes the flaky skin that so many of us despise.
And how can it make your wrinkles worse?
That's the connection that I didn't understand.
Right, so at LA, we conducted a really fascinating study.
We measured women's skin appearance and visible wrinkles every week for over a year.
And what we found was that in the winter, those wrinkles were more noticeable and visible than in the summer.
So why is that?
Well, when skin gets particularly dry, those fine lines and wrinkles become more pronounced because skin loses some of its elasticity.
Come on over here, get a little recommendation for everybody about how to combat wrinkles and protect your skin from these unavoidable drying conditions, because you're gonna come to shows like this, or go to your own apartment, or go on an airplane, you'll get dried out.
So what do you recommend?
Right, so intense skin hydration and good skin renewal are both critical for that smooth, plump skin.
So Olay's new Wrinkle Correction Serum, along with our micro-sculpting cream, will renew your skin cells and hydrate skin, making it ready to face the winter.
Now the serum with vitamin B3 will rejuvenate your skin and your skin cells, while the dual peptides will boost skin regeneration and also have been shown to help replenish collagen.
But you know, skin renewal, cell renewal, regeneration, what are we actually talking about, right?
So let's have a look at skin, this little model here.
So your skin is made up of all of these layers, multiple layers, and each layer has thousands and thousands of skin cells, right?
And your skin has this wonderful ability to renew itself and create new skin cells all the time.
However, when your skin is dry, that process slows down, and as a result, what you see is that skin will, you know, the texture will be rougher, there will be more fine lines and wrinkles, and you get that dull, flaky skin that you talked about.
So the solution?
Well, let's see if we dive underneath, he takes his lid off and go inside the skin.
Let's look right into your skin, right?
So with the first drop of the Ole Wrinkle Correction Serum, you are starting to renew a million skin cells ten layers deep into your skin.
Skin surface, right?
So let's look at that, right?
Imagine each bubble here is a new skin cell that is made by your skin, slowly rises to the surface over time, and then replaces those dry, dull skin cells that are flaky on the surface.
Over time.
So over time, not just do you use that dryness and flakiness, but your skin's texture will be smoother and more even skin.
And compare these two, this is sort of symbolic of course, but you know, from this much more crepey looking wrinkly skin to, of course it's gonna have some wrinkles, we all gonna have some wrinkles, but it looks a lot cleaner.
Right, right, right.
But that's the beauty then of using those together so you get the benefit of the cell renewal from the serum and then the hydration from the microsculpting cream on the surface, right, which starts working instantly and then continues to hydrate your skin for over 24 hours.
So it's really that one-two punch A great combination to prepare your skin for the winter month.
Let's go over here and torture another colleague about how you actually apply the serum.
Oprah Magazine beauty director, my good friend Brian Underwood is here on behalf of Olay.
Now you actually tested it out.
I did, I did.
So why do you use a serum?
Why do I use a serum?
Well, you know, I think as you were just discussing, you know, drier skin tends to look slightly older.
So first and foremost, you're using a serum as a source of moisture for your skin.
On top of that though, I like to think of serums as sort of like the workhorse of your skincare routine.
These formulas tend to be very ingredient packed, very concentrated.
They can firm, they can smooth, they can lift your skin.
So it's also a treatment product as well.
So how do you pick a good serum, the right one for you?
Yeah, so I personally, I layer my serum under a heavier moisturizer.
So I'm looking for moisture that's lightweight because I don't want to feel greasy when I'm done.
So you're looking for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, you're looking for glycerin, you're looking for squalene, and these are ingredients that will provide moisture without feeling too thick on your skin.
And then on top of that, as I just said, you're looking for those treatment ingredients.
So things like vitamin B3, which is niacinamide, which studies show that when you apply it to your skin, your skin appears less red, less inflamed.
Vitamin C is another great one that can help firm your skin by stimulating collagen production.
And peptides are great, too.
Those are cell-communicating ingredients that also firm and lift skin.
So you want to look for that combination of lightweight hydration and treatment ingredients.
Settle a battle for me.
Yeah.
My wife ridicules me because I put the serum on my hand, like this, and rub it on there, like you'd wash your face.
To me, I just want to get skin coverage.
Is there an appropriate application process?
Is she right?
Well, I love you, Dr. Oz, but I have to side with Lisa On this one, there is a right way to apply a serum, and it's pretty straightforward.
But basically, after you've cleansed and toned your skin, if you tone your skin, you apply a little bit of serum into the palm of your hand.
Some are in droppers, some are in pumps, and you sort of mix it together.
There you are doing it.
You look so professional doing this, Brian.
And then you're pressing it into your skin, and that's so that you avoid tugging or pulling at your skin.
So your cheeks, your forehead, and don't forget your neck.
Your neck skin needs some TLC as well.
Where do you find the products, LaFruca?
So these products are available nationwide and at ole.com.
All right, so good news, everybody.
Thanks to my trusted sponsorship partner, Olay.
My entire studio audience can follow along with Brian's application process because you're all going home with Olay Wrinkle Correction Serum and Olay Micro Stuffing Cream.
Enjoy it.
We'll be right back.
Nice job.
Good to see you.
As always.
I'm back with Taddy Lee again from "The Big Bang." Before we go, Kathie wanted to leave us with her Faithful Friday affirmation.
Take it away.
Okay.
Hi, everybody.
I guess I'm thinking today about all of you that are out there right now.
And you're lonely, and you're depressed, and you feel hopeless in your life.
And I just want to tell you one thing.
God's waiting for you.
You don't need to clean up your life.
A lot of you feel like I've done terrible things.
I'm unworthy.
Why would God ever love me?
He gave his life for you.
The very author of life laid down his life for you.
That you might have life and know him in an intimate way.
In your personal way, as your personal Lord and Savior, He loves you.
You don't need to clean up your act.
That's His business.
All He wants you to do is say yes to Him.
And He's waiting.
He's waiting.
And don't waste another second of a life that's going nowhere when He's waiting to take you everywhere.
You ever dreamed beyond your wildest dreams.
Beautiful as always.
Kathy Gifford, thank you for joining me.
I love you, Dr. L. I love you, too.
Thank you.
Remember the power of chains.
Liza, power of you.
One person, one voice, speaking the truth.
Goodbye, everybody.
Bye-bye.
