[00:00:52]  Exodus 22, verses 2 3.
[00:00:54]  Here's another form of slavery under the Old Covenant, God's good, righteous law.
[00:00:59]  If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no blood guilt.
[00:01:04]  For him.
[00:01:05]  Let me pause right there.
[00:01:08]  If someone breaks into your home to steal your property or to do harm to your family, and you strike that individual, the criminal, in such a way that they die, you don't get sued.
[00:01:28]  Our culture is insane.
[00:01:30]  I mean, that's a real thing in our culture today.
[00:01:35]  That's a real thing in our society.
[00:01:37]  People breaking in to steal, someone protecting their property, and then getting sued by the family of the criminal, and they win.
[00:01:48]  Not in God's good, righteous, perfect law.
[00:01:51]  If a thief is found breaking in and struck so that he dies, there shall be no blood guilt for him.
[00:01:57]  Amen.
[00:01:58]  But if the sun has risen on him, there shall be blood guilt for him.
[00:02:02]  He shall surely pay.
[00:02:05]  He will pay, not the person who owns the property who is being stolen from.
[00:02:10]  Isaiah says, Woe to the culture, woe to the nation that calls good evil and evil good, that reverses God's justice and righteousness.
[00:02:22]  No, the thief shall pay.
[00:02:25]  He shall surely pay.
[00:02:26]  If he has nothing, well, how does he pay?
[00:02:31]  Then he shall be sold for his theft, not thrown in prison, so that those who don't steal now have to pay extra taxes.
[00:02:42]  For his food, his room, and board.
[00:02:45]  No.
[00:02:46]  It's not what the Bible teaches.
[00:02:48]  The Bible doesn't have jails.
[00:02:50]  The Bible gives more dignity to man.
[00:02:53]  The Bible doesn't treat man like livestock.
[00:02:56]  The Bible doesn't treat a man like an animal.
[00:02:59]  The Bible gives swift, fair justice, which does not require the righteous people of the society, those who have not committed crimes, to carry the financial weight and burden of those who have.
[00:03:12]  Now, what the Bible does. Is in some cases the person simply dies.
[00:03:17]  The death penalty is invoked depending on the crime.
[00:03:21]  In other cases, the person is publicly flogged and beaten and then they're allowed to go free.
[00:03:25]  We say that's so unjust, that's so humiliating, that takes a person's dignity more than spending the rest of your life in the jail cell wearing an orange uniform where you can't see your family.
[00:03:38]  And every time your children come and see you, they're reminded of the crime you committed.
[00:03:43]  You can never rebuild your reputation, you can never rebuild your home and your family.
[00:03:47]  No, that.
[00:03:49]  That is what steals a man's dignity.
[00:03:52]  So, biblical law says, depending on the crime, if it's murder, life for a life.
[00:03:57]  The penalty is death.
[00:03:59]  If it's something lesser, it's a public beating, then you go free.
[00:04:03]  And if it's theft, the Bible teaches not that you go to jail, but you actually pay the person back.
[00:04:09]  Double restitution.
[00:04:11]  You pay back what you stole plus times two.
[00:04:15]  And if you don't have the money, then you work for them.
[00:04:21]  You don't go to jail so that they now work for you, aka working a job, paying taxes for your meals.
[00:04:27]  How does that make sense?
[00:04:29]  You don't get punished where they now work for you.
[00:04:33]  No, they, the person who stole, they're going to work for the person they were stealing from.
[00:04:39]  God is really wise, is he not?
[00:04:42]  We would do well to follow his wisdom, his law.
[00:04:45]  Can I be frank with you for just a second, right here at the end?
[00:04:49]  Look, some of you guys, you're financially supporting this ministry, and from the bottom of my heart, I say thank you.
[00:04:55]  I cannot thank you enough.
[00:04:58]  However, some of you, you just, you can't afford it.
[00:05:02]  In fact, some of you, you shouldn't afford it.
[00:05:05]  Let's be honest.
[00:05:06]  I mean, we're living in Joe Biden's ridiculous economy.
[00:05:10]  Our nation and our totalitarian political elites lost their minds over the last three years due to COVID.
[00:05:19]  We have written checks that we simply cannot cash.
[00:05:23]  It doesn't matter if people change the definition of a recession.
[00:05:27]  We are living in a recession right now, regardless.
