NXR Podcast - DAILY TRUTH - The Power of Persuasive Preaching Aired: 2022-11-18 Duration: 06:00 === Spiritual Abuse or Good Preaching (04:43) === [00:00:00] Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request. [00:00:03] If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review? [00:00:09] This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. [00:00:17] Thanks. [00:00:20] Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [00:00:25] You're listening to Daily Truth. [00:00:30] Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly as God would have you, not for shameful gain, taking an appropriate wage and doing appropriate work. [00:00:42] Do it eagerly, not domineering over those in your charge, not using coercion. [00:00:50] But the church, the Orthodox church, has held now for 2,000 years that the way that ministers, the way that they guide the sheep, the way that they shepherd the sheep, the way that they move the sheep, Is not through coercion, but through persuasion. [00:01:08] To persuade. [00:01:08] I mean, that's literally what Hebrews, and I've used it multiple times now, but if you remember about three weeks ago, Hebrews chapter 13, verse 17 obey your leaders and submit to them. [00:01:20] The word obey means to be persuaded by, which means a pastor should be persuasive. [00:01:28] I don't like the way you're binding my conscience. [00:01:29] I feel like you're being too forceful. [00:01:31] A pastor should be persuasive. [00:01:34] I was speaking with Stefan just this last Friday. [00:01:36] John Knox, a wonderful pastor in Scotland, he kept breaking pulpits because he kept banging on them. [00:01:45] You find his pulpits, I mean, they still have his pulpits, they're splintered from how many times he would hit them while preaching. [00:01:53] Was he disqualified? [00:01:56] I hope not. [00:01:58] If John Knox is disqualified, then I don't know if there's a qualified man alive. [00:02:04] He wasn't using coercion. [00:02:07] He was using persuasion. [00:02:09] That is the weapon. [00:02:10] That is the tool that God has assigned to his ministers. [00:02:14] And to be fair, that is the tool that God has assigned to all his children. [00:02:20] To the saints has been given the work of ministry, Ephesians chapter 4. [00:02:24] And the work of ministry is to make disciples, the Great Commission. [00:02:29] And to make disciples, we do not do it through coercion, we do not do it through crusades and the sword. [00:02:37] That which is a physical sword, but rather we do it through persuasion and that which is the spiritual sword, which is sharper than any other sword. [00:02:46] It is double edged, it cuts through bone and marrow. [00:02:50] Someone says that hurt. [00:02:51] I don't like how you said that. [00:02:52] Yeah, it hurts. [00:02:54] It's a hammer, it breaks things to pieces. [00:02:56] That's what Jeremiah says. [00:02:57] It's a double edged sword, it slices through every fiber of our being. [00:03:02] It comforts, it convicts, it consoles. [00:03:07] And it condemns those who are not in Christ and who refuse his gospel call. [00:03:16] That is not coercion. [00:03:18] That is not manipulation. [00:03:20] That is not spiritual abuse. [00:03:22] That is persuasion. [00:03:25] If a person says, as a matter of accusation, which no one says, I have an accusation, they always say, I have a concern. [00:03:34] But let's be honest an accusation, I have an accusation against you. [00:03:42] You speak in such a way that it just makes people feel like they can't disagree. [00:03:50] I think we have to consider whether the speaking is aligned with the scripture because if so, that's not wrong. [00:03:55] That's just good preaching. [00:03:58] If a person says, when you sit down after an hour of speaking, people feel like to do anything other than what you said would be a sin. [00:04:09] That could be spiritual abuse and manipulation, or it could be good preaching. [00:04:15] We persuade, we plead. [00:04:19] We charge, we confront, we challenge. [00:04:24] This is the tool that has been given to the ministers of God and to all the saints to perform faithful ministry. [00:04:35] Not domineering over those in your charge. [00:04:38] Persuade. [00:04:40] Houston, we have a problem. [00:04:42] I repeat, we have a problem. === Conference Seats About to Sell Out (01:16) === [00:04:43] Our conference is about to sell out. [00:04:45] I mean, about to sell out. [00:04:47] We probably have about 75 to 100 seats left. [00:04:51] Our venue. [00:04:52] Holds about 525 to 550 seats, and we currently have 450 people who are registered for this conference. [00:04:59] The excitement is tangible. [00:05:02] A lot of people registered because they wanted to hit the early bird rate. [00:05:05] We're now at our normal rate $130 for an adult, $50 for a kid who's 11 to 17 years old, and kids 10 and under get in free. [00:05:13] You can bring the whole family. [00:05:15] But the problem is not that we're going to raise the rate again, the problem is we're going to run out of tickets and we're going to run out pretty fast. [00:05:22] Again, We've got about 100 seats or less. [00:05:25] 450 people, six months out, are already registered for this conference. [00:05:29] We don't want you to miss it.
