NXR Podcast - DAILY TRUTH - How To Break The Cycle Of Sin Aired: 2022-06-29 Duration: 04:40 === Worldly Remorse vs True Repentance (04:40) === [00:00:00] Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request. [00:00:03] If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review? [00:00:09] This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. [00:00:17] Thanks. [00:00:19] Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [00:00:25] You're listening to Daily Truth. [00:00:29] We are surprised, so often surprised by our sin. [00:00:32] And what we're saying in essence is this this is worldly remorse, right? [00:00:36] We say, I can't believe I did that, remorse. [00:00:38] Now, resolve is, I'll never do it again. [00:00:42] In my own effort, right? [00:00:43] Sola bootstrappia, I'm going to pull myself up by my bootstraps. [00:00:46] I'm going to grit my teeth, the sweat of my brow, blood, sweat, and tears. [00:00:49] I'm going to make sure that I never do this again. [00:00:50] Now, in essence, what we're saying is this I can't believe I did this, aka this is a fluke. [00:00:55] This is a one off. [00:00:56] This is not a fair and accurate representation of who I am. [00:01:00] That's what we're saying. [00:01:02] And the resolve, I'll never do this again, is to say, and I'll prove by never doing it again. [00:01:09] Whereas that's remorse and resolve. [00:01:11] To realize and repent. [00:01:13] So, remorse and resolve marks false repentance. [00:01:15] True repentance is realize and repent. [00:01:17] To realize and repent is to say, what I've just done is ultimately not the problem. [00:01:25] What I've just done is an exact representation of who I am. [00:01:31] And I think of what the prophet Nathan said to David. [00:01:34] He tells him this parable of a man who had one little lamb, and his children, it was like a pet to them, it would eat at their table. [00:01:42] They loved this lamb. [00:01:44] And he had a neighbor who had tons of livestock. [00:01:48] And one day, a traveler, a sojourner, comes to stay with his neighbor and he wants to exercise. [00:01:54] His neighbor wants to exercise hospitality. [00:01:56] But rather than killing one of his own lambs, of which he had many, he was a rich, wealthy man. [00:02:01] He snuck in and stole that one little pet lamb from the poor man. [00:02:07] And he carved it up and served it to the stranger in order to appear hospitable. [00:02:15] And Nathan, he tells this parable to David and says, What should be done with this man? [00:02:21] David said, Surely this man should die. [00:02:25] And Nathan responds by saying, Not this is what you did. [00:02:30] You had several wives, you were the king, wealthy, so much, and you took Uriah's sweetheart, the love of his life, Bathsheba. [00:02:39] Rather than Nathan responding by saying, This is what you did. [00:02:43] No, he responds and says, You are the man. [00:02:48] This is who you are. [00:02:50] Response, church. [00:02:52] You are the man. [00:02:55] You are the woman. [00:02:58] I am the man. [00:02:59] Our problem is not just that we do bad things. [00:03:02] Our problem is that we are bad people. [00:03:04] Our problem is that we are corrupt in our inmost nature. [00:03:09] And to repent, to truly repent, is not remorse. [00:03:13] I can't believe I did that. [00:03:14] And resolve. [00:03:15] I'll never do it again. [00:03:16] No, it is to realize and repent. [00:03:17] It is to say, my problem is not just what I do. [00:03:21] Or say, My problem is that I have a wicked heart. [00:03:23] It is who I am. [00:03:25] It is intertwined in every fiber of my being, in my flesh. [00:03:28] And if God does not change me, I will do this again and again and again. [00:03:35] And very likely, I will do far worse. [00:03:38] To repent is to change, not in our own strength, not in our own efforts. [00:03:43] It is to realize the full weight of the problem. [00:03:47] And then to cry out to God and say, I don't just need resolve, I don't just need discipline. [00:03:53] Just need extra intentional thoughts about. [00:03:57] I need to be transformed. [00:04:01] I must be transformed. [00:04:03] And you must create in me a clean heart, oh God. [00:04:06] You must change me. [00:04:08] You must radically transform my identity because woe am I. [00:04:12] And sin did my mother conceive me. [00:04:14] In iniquity I was brought forth. [00:04:16] The problem is not just what I've done, the problem is who I am. [00:04:19] I am the man. [00:04:21] God, change me. [00:04:23] That's what it is to repent. [00:04:24] Thanks so much for listening. [00:04:25] But, real quick, before you go, do us a small favor.
