NXR Podcast - DAILY TRUTH - Jesus Christ: The Supreme Example of Sacrificial Love Aired: 2022-05-02 Duration: 04:13 === Jesus' Death Satisfies God's Wrath (03:53) === [00:00:00] Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request. [00:00:03] If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review? [00:00:09] This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. [00:00:17] Thanks. [00:00:20] Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [00:00:25] You're listening to Daily Truth. [00:00:31] First and foremost, the death of Jesus Christ, before it is a demonstration, before it is an example, it is first and foremost payment. [00:00:42] The death of Jesus Christ is first and foremost atonement. [00:00:46] The death of Jesus Christ is first and foremost God the Father putting Christ his Son forward as a propitiation for all who would believe. [00:00:55] That is, a propitiation, a satisfying sacrifice. [00:01:00] That Jesus was put forward on the altar, as it were, in the same way that the bulls and goats would be. [00:01:06] Bled out on the altar in the priestly sacrificial system of Israel, and the blood as it would flow down the rocks of the altar would satisfy the just and righteous wrath of God, not merely for sins, but for sinners. [00:01:22] Remember, brothers and sisters, that God will not eternally be punishing in the fire of hell the theoretical sin of lust, the spirit of greed, but rather God will be justly punishing not just sins in hell, but he will be punishing sinners. [00:01:40] He will not be punishing lust, but those who are perverts. [00:01:45] He will not be punishing murder, but murderers. [00:01:48] Not deceit, but liars. [00:01:51] God was righteously and justly angry not merely at sin, but at sinners. [00:01:58] And the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was a propitiation, a satisfying, pleasing offering that God Himself put forward in order to justly satisfy sinners. [00:02:11] His own wrath, not merely towards sin, but sinners. [00:02:15] So, first and foremost, the death of Jesus on the cross is atonement. [00:02:20] It is payment for sin. [00:02:24] But in addition to this, not at the expense, but in addition to this, it is right for us to see the death of Jesus Christ as an example, as an example that we too should follow. [00:02:38] Christ says to his disciples, Love has no one greater than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends. [00:02:47] There is a noble example set forth in the cross of Christ that all those who claim to follow him should seek to imitate, that we should love others at the cost of ourselves. [00:03:01] So there is an example in the death of Jesus that we should follow. [00:03:05] There is first and foremost payment in the death of Jesus that satisfies the wrath of God. [00:03:12] But there is also a demonstration in the death of Jesus, namely, a demonstration of God's great love for us. [00:03:21] That God was not only reaching out to those who were lovely, that God was not only making atonement or sacrifice for those who were good and wonderful, and God was not only making a way of reconciliation and forgiveness of sin for those who were neutral or indifferent or useless, but as I preached last week, God was reconciling his enemies. [00:03:46] Jesus gave his life and bled out and died in order to pay for the sins of God's enemies. === A Demonstration of God's Great Love (00:19) === [00:03:54] For those who stood in opposition toward God. [00:03:57] Thanks so much for listening. [00:03:58] But, real quick, before you go, do us a small favor, take a moment, and leave us a five star review if you enjoyed the show.
