NXR Podcast - DAILY TRUTH - Your “Bible Study Group” Might Be Doing More Harm Than Good Aired: 2022-04-18 Duration: 04:28 === God Determines Scripture Meaning (03:32) === [00:00:00] Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request. [00:00:03] If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review? [00:00:09] This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. [00:00:17] Thanks. [00:00:19] Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [00:00:25] You're listening to Daily Truth. [00:00:29] The Word of God has limitless application. [00:00:34] R.C. Sproul often would say that any given text of the Scripture only has one interpretation, but limitless application. [00:00:46] There are many Christians today who, perhaps in the setting of a Bible study, will get together in a home and they'll read a chapter of Scripture together and then they'll begin to discuss its meaning. [00:00:57] And if there are 10 people in the Bible study, by the conclusion, you'll have 10 different meanings. [00:01:04] If there are 15 people, 15 different meanings. [00:01:07] What does it mean to you, one might ask? [00:01:09] What does this text mean to you? [00:01:12] And the answer, rhetorically, should be it doesn't matter. [00:01:17] Who cares? [00:01:17] It doesn't matter what it means to you, it matters what it means to God. [00:01:24] God has determined the meaning of His word. [00:01:27] God says a certain thing, and God intends to convey a certain message by what He has said. [00:01:34] The meaning is not up to subjective. [00:01:37] Or pluralistic interpretations. [00:01:39] That said, the application is multifaceted. [00:01:44] So, one text, one doctrine has one meaning what God means by it, the actual meaning, the objective truth, the absolute truth. [00:01:55] But then that truth can be applied in multiple arenas. [00:01:59] That truth of God's word and what he means by it can be applied in our personal lives, in our homes, in our churches, and in society at large. [00:02:09] And all the varying realms of society, economically, politically, culturally, etc. [00:02:18] But God cares about every facet of this world, and He has called us as His people to apply His word to every facet of this world. [00:02:29] The Christian has an answer. [00:02:32] We cannot merely salute the inerrancy of Scripture, that is, the infallibility and authority of God's word. [00:02:41] But in our actions or our lack thereof, our complacency and our compliance with tyranny, essentially saluting the inerrancy of God's word, but in our actions or inaction, denying the sufficiency of God's word. [00:02:56] That's what we have occurring in the church at large today. [00:03:00] We have a bunch of people, a bunch of people who would continue to claim to be Bible believing Christians saying, of course God's word is authoritative, and of course God's word is pure, infallible, and perfect. [00:03:11] But God's word just doesn't really speak to these things. [00:03:13] God doesn't really care about these things. [00:03:16] God doesn't really care about politics, and his word doesn't really speak to politics. [00:03:20] God doesn't really have something to say about vaccines. [00:03:22] He doesn't really have something to say about inflation. [00:03:25] He doesn't really have something to say about borders. [00:03:27] But that's an extra biblical idea, and that's nationalism, but not Christianity. === The Sufficiency of Scripture (00:55) === [00:03:32] No, the Bible has something to say. [00:03:36] It's not enough to believe in the authority of Scripture while denying the sufficiency of Scripture. [00:03:41] The sufficiency of Scripture. [00:03:42] For what? [00:03:44] What is Scripture sufficient for? [00:03:46] For life and godliness. [00:03:48] Yes, scripture is sufficient for showing us the way to salvation and those things which are eternal. [00:03:53] But the scripture itself testifies that it is sufficient for all of life, for life and godliness. [00:04:00] All of life, corporate life, social life, economic life, political life. [00:04:09] The scripture does speak to these things. [00:04:11] Thanks so much for listening. [00:04:13] But, real quick, before you go, do us a small favor. [00:04:16] Take a moment and leave us a five star review if you enjoyed the show. [00:04:20] This is undoubtedly.
