NXR Podcast - QUESTIONS - How Can I Learn To Apply God’s Law To All Of Life? Aired: 2022-04-08 Duration: 04:16 === Biblical Principles for Discernment (02:55) === [00:00:00] Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request. [00:00:03] If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review? [00:00:09] This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. [00:00:17] Thanks. [00:00:22] What is a list of books that help with applying God's law to our society, government, culture? [00:00:29] What do you think? [00:00:29] What are some good books? [00:00:30] Oh, a list of books for God's law. [00:00:33] Oh, okay. [00:00:33] For applying God's law beyond just the church to society. [00:00:37] I mean, AD was, I think, reading one, right? [00:00:39] Yeah, I mean, I've got it right here. [00:00:40] It's called The Institutes of Biblical Law by R.J. Rushduny. [00:00:45] And what I like about it is it's good as a reference. [00:00:48] It has a huge index in the back. [00:00:50] Any Bible verse you can think of, you just look it up and you'll see pages it's mentioned. [00:00:54] So you don't have to read the whole thing if you don't like to do that kind of thing. [00:00:59] And yeah, that's the one I would recommend because it's just, it's, It's thorough. [00:01:04] It's exhaustive. [00:01:06] Again, you can't believe literally everything he says. [00:01:08] You've got to use discernment, but it's very helpful. [00:01:13] I agree. [00:01:14] The Ten Commandments by Thomas Watson, The Puritans. [00:01:17] I think a lot of their stuff is really, really good. [00:01:20] Hear that? [00:01:20] John likes the Puritans. [00:01:21] He likes the Puritans. [00:01:22] Do you have a book recommendation? [00:01:24] Greg Bonson. [00:01:25] Yeah, I have, yeah, by this standard, right? [00:01:28] It's his book on that. [00:01:30] And I think I have Theonomy and Christian Ethics and stuff. [00:01:32] It has some good stuff to say about it. [00:01:35] I'm trying to think. [00:01:36] Honestly, this is kind of a weird answer in some ways, but so this isn't like. [00:01:40] Leviticus, is that what you're trying to say? [00:01:43] That's a good one. [00:01:44] That's a great one. [00:01:45] Nah, I'm an Exodus guy, actually. [00:01:48] No, some of the confessions, actually. [00:01:50] Some of the, yeah, this is the history answer here, but some of the historic confessions, I think, have some really good information on that. [00:01:58] So, yeah, like read the Westminster, and it doesn't go into specifics as much. [00:02:03] This, you know, Synod of Dort, and just really all of the historic confessions. [00:02:08] Confessions, the Heidelberg, they all have to deal with this somewhere along the line. [00:02:11] So, yeah, go to the primary source. [00:02:14] I like doing that. [00:02:15] Yeah, that's good. [00:02:16] And Toby Sumter, just to give him some props, he just recently wrote a 50 question catechism on God's design for government. [00:02:24] And it's on Canon Press. [00:02:25] He did a video of it where he gives the question and a short answer. [00:02:28] And it was fantastic. [00:02:29] It was really, really good. [00:02:31] And then all the Greg Bonson stuff, thanks to Jeff Durbin and James White, the Bonson family has given that to Apologia. [00:02:39] And so they started Bonson U, Bonson University. [00:02:42] All of it is now free through Apology and their ministry. [00:02:46] And for homeschool parents, some of this stuff can be heady. [00:02:49] And so I'm kind of, if those who listen to the podcast, I probably said before, like, I'm a paleo conservative, or at least I think I am. === God's Design for Government (01:20) === [00:02:56] I consider myself that. [00:02:57] And I look at, like, there's principles in the Bible that should be applied. [00:03:03] I don't think it's a one for one necessarily. [00:03:05] And it's hard. [00:03:06] There's a certain context that the law was given, but I think it does apply, the principles of it. [00:03:11] And there's a book that I think you could use even with your kids because it's so simple. [00:03:16] And I don't even know where you could find it now, but it's by a guy named Peter Hammond. [00:03:21] It's called Biblical Principles for Africa. [00:03:23] It's not even for the United States, but I remember when I was probably a teenager, I found it somewhere. [00:03:29] I don't even know where I found it. [00:03:30] And it's super short, and it just goes through really basic stuff about property and the role of government. [00:03:37] And I just thought it was pretty clear. [00:03:39] So if you can pick up Peter Hammond's Biblical Principles for Africa, I think it's pretty good. [00:03:43] And his whole thing, just by the way, he's a missionary, and he's trying to show. [00:03:47] People in Africa that he's trying to teach. [00:03:50] Like, here's what the Bible says. [00:03:52] Because in some cases, they are trying to reform and start from scratch. [00:03:56] And they're asking these questions. [00:03:58] So that's why I think it's really good. [00:04:00] Thanks so much for listening. [00:04:01] But, real quick, before you go, do us a small favor take a moment and leave us a five star review if you enjoyed the show. [00:04:08] This is undoubtedly the best way that you can help us get this biblically faithful content to as many people as possible. [00:04:15] Thanks so much.
