[00:02:01]  Well, first, I'm going to tell you that not just Christians pray.

[00:02:14]  He wasn't feeling great, but he had to have some blood work done, went to the doctor, mentioned that his chest was hurting a little bit.
[00:02:21]  Doctors immediately sent him to the ER.
[00:02:24]  This was Tuesday?
[00:02:25]  This was 3-3, which was whatever day that was.
[00:02:28]  Yeah, I think it was Tuesday.
[00:02:30]  Yeah.
[00:02:30]  So they put him in the hospital, moved him instantly up to admitting.
[00:02:35]  They did some tests and decided he needed a double bypass.
[00:02:39]  He had a heart attack when he was at the hospital, which is the best place to have one.
[00:02:43]  Now, was it a severe heart attack or is it just- No, it was minor, minor-ish, but he, you know, he did need two bypasses, so- So this is like unbelievable timing, though.

[00:02:58]  It's the magic number.
[00:02:59]  It really is.
[00:03:00]  That is okay.
[00:03:02]  So, wow.

[00:03:07]  So he went through surgery, you know, after, you know, I mean, they had to, it was terrifying few days.
[00:03:16]  He is out of the ICU today.
[00:03:20]  And he's upright and sitting upright and walking and talking and complaining.
[00:03:28]  He doesn't like the food.
[00:03:31]  He was watching Chinese TV last night going, well, maybe I can learn a language while I'm here.
[00:03:36]  That's what Jay texted me.
[00:03:38]  He says, yeah, they had him up walking, which is unbelievable.
[00:03:43]  And he was eating and he says, and he was watching Chinese television because he wanted to learn the language while he had some time.
[00:03:49]  I'm like, okay.
[00:03:52]  And he's, you know, his colors get better than it's been forever because I guess, you know, he's.
[00:03:58]  This must have been going on for a while.
[00:04:01]  Yeah, probably.
[00:04:02]  It's been progressively going on.
[00:04:05]  And, you know, he's, he's on his way to recovery.
[00:04:08]  I mean, he still is very hoarse from having the ventilator, but he's, he's himself.
[00:04:16]  Everything's intact and he can't wait to bounce me off the show.
[00:04:20]  So you got indeed.
[00:04:23]  You know, so Mimi and I have been talking over the past week.
[00:04:26]  And, you know, we're like, well, what are we going to do?
[00:04:29]  Because this could be weeks.
[00:04:31]  It could be, we had certainly no idea before he was up and eating yesterday, which is very encouraging.
[00:04:40]  And we're like, well, people are not going to stick around for best of shows.
[00:04:44]  It's okay once in a while.
[00:04:46]  And I have to say, thank you so much.
[00:04:49]  So many producers, of course, stepped up, sent in best of shows, which will all be used eventually.
[00:04:56]  That was just phenomenal.
[00:04:58]  But we saw the, you know, this is a family business.
[00:05:01]  This is a two-family business, really.
[00:05:04]  And we've been family for over 18 years.
[00:05:07]  I mean, I met Jay when she was 14 or 15.
[00:05:11]  You know, now she's married and, you know, and doing all kinds of stuff for the show.
[00:05:16]  It's just amazing.

[00:06:32]  And I'm like, now, first of all, you did the intro with me on Thursday, and I listened back to it.

[00:08:10]  We all have our specialties, me, food, and additives and food and clean eating and all that good stuff, among other things.
[00:08:18]  And I read PubMed on a daily basis and I read legislative bills.
[00:08:24]  And I'm a news, I'm a news junkie, but not mainstream media.
[00:08:28]  And JC has his interests, and Jay has hers.
[00:08:32]  And, you know, Eric has his.
[00:08:35]  And we kind of are always trying to top each other and bring new topics.
[00:08:41]  And so there's a lot of stuff going around our family all the time.
[00:08:44]  So, yeah, John has his own take on the world and he has a different viewpoint.
[00:08:49]  And he's way more history-oriented and, you know, financial trends and all that.
[00:09:00]  I don't care.
[00:09:00]  That's stuff I don't care about.
[00:09:02]  I have a different bent, but there are things that I will force him to talk about because I think they're fascinating.
[00:09:07]  So this morning, so this morning I sit down and I'm like, or maybe it was last night.
[00:09:13]  I say, okay, well, if you have any clips, let me know and send them to this email box.
[00:09:18]  There's like 16 clips come in, like all perfect.
[00:09:21]  I haven't listened to them because I'd never do that, except I just check one for levels, perfectly clipped.
[00:09:27]  They look like they're all the right length of time.
[00:09:29]  I'm like, are you, do you do clips for John too?
[00:09:32]  I mean, something's going on here.
[00:09:35]  No, I, well, I use Audacity anyway because I do transcribing of old.
[00:09:41]  I've done a lot of transcribing.
[00:09:43]  And a lot of times, like people will give me old cassettes that I have to transfer over because they're in such bad shape and I have to pull up the topic.
[00:09:51]  Kids, you have to understand.
[00:09:53]  Back in the day, we had these little plastic boxes and it had these two wheels in it.
[00:09:59]  And there was a magnetic tape.
[00:10:00]  And that's how we listened to things and we recorded things.
[00:10:04]  And that was known as a cassette tape.
[00:10:06]  I just have to tell everybody because and the cassette tapes, there are many different formats, different makers, and all of them are different.
[00:10:14]  And they all record at different speeds and they all have different.
[00:10:17]  So you have to have all the different players to get the information off, or you have to somehow download it and then use Audacity and clean it up so you can actually transcribe it.
[00:10:27]  It's a process.
[00:10:30]  And then also I've got the podcast studio in Port Angeles, which I still haven't used, but I've learned how to do everything.

[00:11:37]  Well, you do have a fabulous background.
[00:11:41]  And you and I, you and I talk a couple times a year, mainly about taxes, but we wind up talking for about an hour about all kinds of stuff.
[00:11:49]  And then already just in this short week, I've learned a couple things that we're going to talk about.
[00:11:56]  And one thing that I learned yesterday, I want to talk about right after this clip.
[00:12:02]  The clock, it runs our lives.
[00:12:04]  And when it jumps ahead or behind an hour every six months, it messes with us.
[00:12:09]  Daylight savings time disrupts your biological rhythm.
[00:12:13]  Kay Lewis leads the youth group at her Barrington church and worries about the sleep-deprived kids coming in Sunday morning.
[00:12:20]  If I had my brothers, I'd go to daylight savings time and I would stop right there.
[00:12:25]  Stay there year-round.
[00:12:26]  Dr. Philip Cozy monitors sleep charts as part of his work as director of the sleep center for Edward Elmhurst Endeavor Health Hospital.
[00:12:34]  He says losing an hour of sleep may seem insignificant, but studies prove otherwise.
[00:12:40]  There are significant implications with respect to mood disorder and suicidality.
[00:12:46]  Cozy says there are also studies which show a big increase in heart attacks, strokes, depression, and fatigue in the days after moving the clocks forward.
[00:12:55]  State Senator Darby Hills is co-sponsoring a bill that would allow Illinois to do away with daylight saving time as neighboring states get rid of it as well.
[00:13:04]  Even just an hour of sleep can make a big difference and a lot of people have to change their whole routines.
[00:13:09]  You know, evening daylight time will allow people to be outside, be with their families, helps mental health.
[00:13:16]  I just start trying to pretend.
[00:13:18]  One must pretend their way into this new rhythm, right?
[00:13:22]  Fake it till you make it.
[00:13:24]  The Daylight Savings Act of 2026 would compromise making daylight savings time permanent, but only changing the clocks by a half hour.
[00:13:32]  All right.
[00:13:32]  Illinois is obviously nuts.
[00:13:34]  We change it by a half hour.
[00:13:37]  But I said this to you last night.
[00:13:40]  I said, just remember, because that's the only time John has ever been late is one time when daylight savings time changed.
[00:13:49]  And so I thought I'd just remind you as a courtesy.
[00:13:52]  And you said what?
[00:13:54]  I don't change my clocks.
[00:13:55]  I just stay on daylight savings time and just subtract an hour.
[00:14:02]  I can't stand it.
[00:14:03]  So I just gave up on changing the clocks.
[00:14:06]  It's fine.
[00:14:07]  But your phone changes, doesn't it, automatically?

[00:14:10]  Yeah.
[00:14:10]  I have no choice there.
[00:14:12]  But why change?
[00:14:13]  I've got grandfather clocks and clocks on the wall here and there.
[00:14:16]  And it's like, ah, it's only four months.
[00:14:20]  That's a bad thing.
[00:14:20]  So BC, BC Canada has just announced that they're changing permanently to daylight savings, which will be very interesting because Washington already passed a law that said that they, although it hasn't been enacted yet, that we're going to stay on standard time.

[00:14:35]  So it's just, it's stupid.
[00:14:37]  I mean, I just think the whole thing is dumb.
[00:14:40]  The worst thing ever was when I worked graveyard shift and you'd go in the it would be great this time of year because you work seven hours and get paid for eight, but the other time of the year the clock would roll back at two and you'd go, oh, great.
[00:14:57]  It's a nine hour, no overtime.
[00:14:59]  So where did you work graveyard shift at the at the club?
[00:15:04]  No, I had a I worked for Master Charge when it was called MasterCard.
[00:15:12]  And I worked swing shift and graveyard shift there on a regular basis.
[00:15:15]  I liked the swing shift better.

[00:15:18]  Like answering people's calls or what exactly do you have to do with Master Charge?
[00:15:23]  I took lost and stolen card reports for the seven western states.
[00:15:26]  And then later I moved into the fraud desk where I arrested people over the phone using stolen credit cards.
[00:15:34]  Is this citizen's arrest?
[00:15:36]  What was that?
[00:15:37]  No, it would be the merchant had call in and I'd go, hey, let me talk to the customer.
[00:15:44]  And then I'd start flirting with them while my partner called the police in the area.
[00:15:47]  And then the police would come in and arrest the guy.
[00:15:50]  This was in the 70s.
[00:15:51]  They don't do this anymore.
[00:15:53]  But yeah, and then we'd go to court and testify against them.
[00:15:57]  It was a goofy, goofy job, but it was fun.

[00:16:06]  I think we've heard almost all of John's previous jobs.

[00:16:23]  Well, I was an MC of a dinner theater.

[00:18:07]  And, you know, there's things that I do better than he does and things he does better than I do.

[00:18:18]  So, you know, that's the reason I live in Washington State because I don't like living in the Bay Area and because I have a million animals.

[00:19:05]  Well, the other job I had is I was the first EMT in Oakland.
[00:19:11]  It was before EMTs.
[00:19:12]  I was an ambulance attendant in Oakland.
[00:19:14]  I was the affirmative action hire.

[00:19:20]  Oh, yeah.
[00:19:21]  And, you know, because of that, I kind of compartmentalize.
[00:19:26]  So I will break down in about a year.
[00:19:29]  You know, I ended up with post-traumatic stress from that experience.
[00:19:32]  Wow.
[00:19:33]  And I've learned how to handle it.
[00:19:34]  And how I handle it is by not thinking about it, not dealing with it and dealing with what needs to be done.
[00:19:39]  And then I'll be the one who's just a basket case, you know, six months from now, a year from now.
[00:19:44]  But it's fine.
[00:19:45]  It works great.
[00:19:46]  Now, are you going to come down to the Bay Area for the recuperation period?
[00:19:51]  If you don't mind me asking, what's the plan?
[00:19:54]  Do we even have a timeline for John getting out of the hospital yet?
[00:19:57]  He should be out in a week, by the end of the week, probably.
[00:20:01]  He's going to stay with Jay and Brennan because their house doesn't have a million stairs and because he needs people with him 24-7 and we'll probably get a visiting nurse as well.
[00:20:12]  I have to get a hot one.
[00:20:14]  Get one of those hot ones.
[00:20:16]  I'm hoping to.
[00:20:16]  Oh, actually, I wouldn't mind getting just some big dude.

[00:20:25]  So I have to unhook my life from Port Angeles because I do things.

[00:20:34]  So I will be down when I'm absolutely needed once I get everything taken care of here and I get my macaw farmed out to a friend and my parakeets, I have parakeets, and the cats and board my dogs at my kennel.
[00:20:47]  Most of my dogs, two of my dogs come with me.
[00:20:49]  And then I will go down and make his house ready for him to come back to it because I have to put in handrails and a bunch of things.
[00:20:57]  So I do you're going to allow him to stay in San Francisco?
[00:21:03]  I mean, is it not time for him to give up that godforsaken place?
[00:21:08]  No, he likes living there.
[00:21:09]  I don't think so.
[00:21:10]  No, he likes it.
[00:21:13]  It's not, you know, we've talked about it off and on, but my house is too cold, full of too many animals.
[00:21:22]  And just it's a mess, I tell you.
[00:21:25]  I don't want to be around all that.
[00:21:29]  Well, I am, you know, constantly doing renovations here and stuff.
[00:21:33]  You know, it would drive him nuts.
[00:21:36]  It's fine the way it is.
[00:21:37]  He'll be happy to get back to his independence.
[00:21:39]  He's an only child.
[00:21:40]  He likes to, he really likes his, you know, not to have somebody underfoot all the time.
[00:21:46]  I will be down for like a couple months and get him until he is in good shape.
[00:21:52]  And then I will, you know, return up here and then keep, I'll probably be down every three weeks.
[00:21:58]  So I'll just drive a lot.
[00:21:59]  I'm really good at driving I-5.
[00:22:02]  Is there any view yet on how long it will be before John can return to the show, if you and I allow him?
[00:22:10]  Well, first he has to get not be hoarse.
[00:22:16]  No, John is incredibly driven and stubborn.
[00:22:20]  And I think he'll be.

[00:22:28]  And I've, of course, talked to all of my friends who've had bypasses and I've grilled them incredibly.

[00:27:52]  And every time he'd go, well, you know, I'm, if I'm not, I'm going to go see a man.
[00:27:56]  And if I'm not back by a certain hour, a car will come for you.
[00:28:00]  And then he'd also say, yeah, well, if anything, if I use this one code word, you guys need to get away from me as fast as possible.

[00:38:32]  What they got was the Islamic Republic.

[00:38:39]  In 1979, they held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.
[00:38:45]  Night after night, they paraded our citizens on camera and tortured them off camera.

[00:38:51]  Now, you need to understand this about the Islamic Republic.

[00:46:45]  I have some reactions from the U.S. regarding what's happening, but it was interesting because I've been looking for what I found from WION.
[00:46:55]  Yes, I had to go to the Indian news service.
[00:46:59]  And they see it very clearly, and they just say exactly what's going on.
[00:47:04]  Two months ago, the United States captured the president of Venezuela.
[00:47:08]  At present, it is fighting an all-out war with Iran and has already assassinated its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
[00:47:16]  While America's stated objectives are different, these moves are increasingly being seen as an attempt to target one of its chief rivals, China.
[00:47:25]  Now, how is this linked with Beijing?
[00:47:28]  Essentially, the United States has targeted two countries that both shared China as their most important crude oil customer.
[00:47:37]  Overall, 17% of China's oil came from Venezuela and Iran last year.
[00:47:42]  For instance, China became the main importer of Venezuelan oil after Trump imposed sanctions on the country's energy industry in 2019.
[00:47:52]  Last year's data indicates that 55% of Venezuela's crude oil was exported to China.
[00:47:58]  And as per reports, around two-thirds of Chinese oil imports from Caracas go to independent refineries known as teapots, were willing to flout sanctions in order to purchase crude oil at sharp discounts.
[00:48:13]  Without America now asserting control over oil sales and revenue of Venezuela's oil, China's imports are set to be impacted.

=== China's Oil Conundrum (15:37) ===

[00:48:22]  In case of West Asia, Beijing's stakes are even higher.
[00:48:26]  Half of its oil imports are from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, and Oman, which transport their crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
[00:48:39]  And interesting to note that word came out of Russia, I think, three, maybe four weeks ago, that Russia was considering selling their oil in dollars again, which is interesting since they've been kicked off of SWIFT, but there's other payment rails they can use.
[00:48:58]  Wayan continues here with some details, and then the timing of this is interesting.
[00:49:04]  Last year, it purchased an average of 1.38 million barrels of Iranian oil per day.
[00:49:09]  On the whole, it brought 87% of Iran's crude oil.
[00:49:14]  This accounted for more than 13% of China's oil imports.
[00:49:19]  This works to Beijing's advantage as refiners reportedly get a discount of $8 to $10 per barrel on the purchase of Iranian oil.
[00:49:27]  What threatens China even more is the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz, with the IRGC threatening to attack any vessel that passes through it.
[00:49:37]  This might cause a devastating impact on China.
[00:49:40]  China has now broken its silence on these speculations.
[00:49:43]  When asked about the hindrance of oil supplies to Beijing owing to the present geopolitical situation, China's foreign ministry stated that the country will take all necessary measures to ensure its energy security.
[00:49:58]  This also assumes significance in the backdrop of U.S. President Trump's upcoming visit to China.
[00:50:03]  In March, after a gap of eight years, remember, where he will meet with his counterpart, Xi Jinping, trade is likely to be top on the agenda.
[00:50:11]  Yeah, I think so.
[00:50:12]  Hey, hey, Xi, we got your oil, man.
[00:50:15]  What do you want to do?
[00:50:16]  You want to play ball with us finally?
[00:50:17]  Or we don't want any oil?

[00:51:02]  You're getting the oil from Iran to China.
[00:51:05]  And I think this is a broader chessboard move.
[00:51:09]  And it's not really just being run by him.
[00:51:11]  It's being run by what I would call neocons.

[00:52:39]  I mean, he loves Putin, but he's really more focused on putting a hurt on China.

[00:52:45]  I think Trump is pissed at the Israelis because they do keep killing people.
[00:52:50]  Well, we're in the middle of a global power reordering that started in 2014, which we're disrupting the international order that was put in place after World War II.

[00:53:06]  It started with Putin invasion of Ukraine, the Russian interference in the 2016 election, and that really did happen.
[00:53:14]  China's aggressive expansion into South China, the military buildup by China across Africa and Latin America.
[00:53:23]  China controls all the shipping channels, or they've been trying to.
[00:53:28]  You know, it's a coordinated strategy to displace America as the dominant nation.

[00:53:34]  So, you know, and I think that Trump, if I just look at it objectively, and we'll get to the Israel thing in a second.
[00:53:40]  If I look at it objectively, I think he knows the midterm's a loss.
[00:53:45]  I mean, historically, statistically, it's a loss.
[00:53:49]  There's also a lot of Trump haters in the Republican Party.

[00:53:56]  He's not going to make a House and a Senate.

[00:58:18]  And again, their heads are only with popularity, with polling, and they truly believe that the president is only thinking about that, has nothing else in mind.

[00:58:32]  And for the president and the administration who declared victory based on internet and vibes and podcasts, let's take a survey, shall we, of every podcast that he appeared on and how do they feel about the Iran conflict?

[00:58:48]  Who cares?
[00:58:49]  You can look at a lot of the polling of that same demographic, which they were very excited about.
[00:58:53]  Young men in particular, how are they feeling about this conflict?
[00:58:56]  And if you were saying 90-10, it's not even true in the Republican sense.
[00:59:00]  I mean, the latest one that I saw was like 72% Republicans, which, by the way, Mr. President, and everybody in the administration, Bush had 93 for Iraq.
[00:59:08]  And how did that turn out for him?
[00:59:09]  So let's not put, you know, put all of our eggs in the basket of just because Republican voters are here, that this is all going to be like sunshine and roses.
[00:59:17]  And I also would not make the spurious claim that it's all about Iran.
[00:59:21]  It's about compounding effects.
[00:59:22]  The gas price effect of the Iran conflict is going to be dramatically more important to the White House's political chances in the midterms than anything that's actually happening on the ground.
[00:59:32]  I don't think it should be that way, but that's reality.
[00:59:34]  And I do think also, you know, your inclination to get him to try and declare victory, that's the correct move from a strategic perspective, an economic perspective, from every political perspective.
[00:59:47]  You don't want the entire country's national discourse focused on Iran.
[00:59:53]  These guys are only thinking about politics only and about partisan politics.

[01:03:17]  We have destabilized the Middle East.
[01:03:19]  But in just the first year of his second term, Trump has launched military operations in seven different nations.
[01:03:25]  And the U.S. has now engaged in its largest military conflict since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
[01:03:32]  A recent poll by Reuters showed that just 27% of Americans approved of Trump's actions in Iran.
[01:03:38]  And while 55% of Republicans approved, some cracks are emerging in Trump's MAGA base among supporters who say the war goes against the whole idea of America first.
[01:03:49]  Marjorie Taylor Greene, who resigned from office after clashing with Trump over the Epstein files, wrote on Twitter, I did not campaign for this.
[01:03:57]  This is not what we thought MAGA was supposed to be.

[01:04:00]  And Eric Prince, the Trump backer and founder of Blackwater, said in the post, I don't see how this is in keeping with the president's MAGA commitment.

[01:04:09]  Other Republicans reacted with outrage after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio provided this rationale for taking military action in Iran.
[01:04:17]  We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action.
[01:04:19]  We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces.
[01:04:22]  And we knew that if we didn't preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.
[01:04:29]  Republican House member Thomas Massey from Kentucky wrote: The administration admits Israel dragged us into the Iran war that's already cost too many American lives and billions of dollars.
[01:04:40]  Tucker Carlson, the right-wing influencer who The Atlantic reports met with Trump in recent weeks, tried to convince Trump not to be pressured by Israel.
[01:04:48]  Carlson telling Trump, you need to stand up to Israel or else you're going to be destroyed and the country is going to be destroyed.
[01:04:55]  Adding, Israel is a country of 9 million people with no resources.
[01:04:59]  Why are we taking orders from them?
[01:05:01]  Democrats are trying to seize on all of this, especially with primary contests already underway in some states.
[01:05:07]  And in the run-up to the November midterm elections, they're trying to portray Trump as more focused on foreign affairs and starting wars abroad than solving economic problems at home.
[01:05:18]  Okay, so first I want to play the original piece that what Marco Rubio said, because when I heard it, again, I had the same reaction.
[01:05:26]  Like, what?
[01:05:27]  What are you saying here?
[01:05:28]  And then I had to listen to it again.
[01:05:30]  And then on a hunch, I talked to Rob, the constitutional lawyer, who is a former JAG, so military lawyer.
[01:05:39]  And so I was thinking, Rubio is a smart guy.
[01:05:43]  So why is Rubio out there saying something that can easily be interpreted as, oh, well, Israel dragged us into it?
[01:05:53]  Here's what he said.
[01:05:54]  The United States conducted this operation with a fair goal in mind.
[01:05:57]  I haven't got a chance to see a lot of reporting.
[01:06:00]  I don't understand what the confusion is.
[01:06:02]  Let me explain it to you, and I'll do it once again as clearly as possible.
[01:06:05]  Perhaps you'll report it that way.
[01:06:07]  The United States is conducting an operation to eliminate the threat of Iran's short-range ballistic missiles and the threat posed by their Navy, particularly to naval assets.
[01:06:17]  Okay, so first of all, right there, I'm like, why is he saying that when we have a huge armada down there?
[01:06:25]  The president's been saying, we're coming to help you.
[01:06:28]  We're going to bomb the crap out of them.
[01:06:30]  We're going to get rid of these guys.
[01:06:32]  Now, Rubio is saying, you're rustling a lot with papers, Nimi.
[01:06:37]  Oh, sorry about that.
[01:06:38]  Let me toss that to the floor.
[01:06:40]  Sorry.
[01:06:41]  It's okay.
[01:06:42]  I just want to make sure that you're still with me.
[01:06:45]  I am.
[01:06:45]  And so now he's saying something that sounded technical to me and was only about taking out their short-range missiles and possible nuclear bombs.
[01:06:56]  That is what it is focused on doing right now, and it's doing quite successfully.
[01:06:59]  I'll leave it to the Pentagon and the Department of War to discuss the tactics behind that and the progress that's being made.
[01:07:05]  That is the clear objective of this mission.
[01:07:07]  The second question that I've been asked is: why now?
[01:07:10]  Well, there's two reasons why now.
[01:07:11]  The first is it was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone, the United States or Israel or anyone, they were going to respond and respond against the United States.
[01:07:21]  The orders had been delegated down to the field commanders.
[01:07:24]  It was automatic, and in fact, it bared to be true because, in fact, within an hour of the initial attack on the leadership compound, the missile forces in the south and in the north, for that matter, had already been activated to launch.
[01:07:38]  In fact, those had already been pre-positioned.
[01:07:41]  The third is the assessment that was made that if we stood and waited for that attack to come first before we hit them, we would suffer much higher casualties.
[01:07:50]  And so the president made the very wise decision.
[01:07:53]  We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action.
[01:07:55]  We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces.
[01:07:59]  And we knew that if we didn't preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties and perhaps even higher those killed.
[01:08:07]  And then we would all be here answering questions about why we knew that indeed.
[01:08:10]  So I listened to this and I'm thinking, why is Rubio saying this or is it just true?
[01:08:17]  And the conclusion shows up in the filings.
[01:08:21]  So if this was a so-called preemptive war, where we had just said we're deciding to bomb Iran, then the war powers resolution would have popped up right away and then Congress would have control over the timeline, 60 days plus 30 days to unwind.
[01:08:41]  You notice that that's not happening, even though, you know, of course, Massey and they're trying to do it, but it can't happen because the U.S. filed a Section 51 article, Article 51 of the UN Charter, saying that we were defending because the Israelis struck.
[01:09:04]  And of course, we know the Israelis took out 40 guys in one go.
[01:09:08]  And so we had to immediately defend ourselves.
[01:09:11]  In my opinion, this technical language that, and I checked this with Rob, the constitutional lawyer, is like, wow, we got to find out who's doing stuff over there.
[01:09:23]  Because he said this is one of the smartest legal moves he's ever seen.

[01:10:16]  24 hours ago, Secretary of State Marko Rubio said the administration believed Israel was going to attack Iran first and was concerned Iran would then retaliate against the U.S. There absolutely was an imminent threat and the imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked and we believed they would be attacked that they would immediately come after us and we were not going to sit there and absorb a blow before we responded.

[01:10:42]  I find it very disturbing that we're committing this nation to war based upon a decision by even though a staunch ally and I'm a supporter of Israel, but I don't think anybody should drive our decision to go to war, but the interests of the United States.
[01:10:58]  Today, when I asked the president about it, he contradicted Rubio.
[01:11:01]  Mr. President, did Israel force your hand to launch these strikes against Iran?
[01:11:05]  Did Netanyahu pull the United States into this war?
[01:11:08]  No, I might have forced their hand.
[01:11:10]  You see, we were having negotiations with these lunatics and it was my opinion that they were going to attack first.

[01:28:15]  Now, Israel, as recently as yesterday, said it believed he is still alive.
[01:28:22]  Khameni is someone who's got quite a lot of support within the Revolutionary Guards, of which he is a member himself.
[01:28:33]  He had actually been suggested as a possible successor before his father's death.
[01:28:38]  And apparently, Ali Khamene was actually opposed to the son's candidacy because he did not want to return to hereditary rule, which he feared might actually further erode the credibility of the mullahs in the eyes of the Iranian people.
[01:28:55]  So you go look at this guy, and so he's in the IRCG.

[01:29:05]  His dad didn't want him for reasons of hereditary.

[01:29:11]  An interesting thing, though, is that last week, on the very day that the war started, Bloomberg carried an investigation that alleged that Mujtaba Khameni had a wide range of luxury property holdings across various European countries, including Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
[01:29:31]  Now, he's not named as the owner of any of these, but Bloomberg established that he was indeed basically the shadowy hand behind it.
[01:29:42]  The person who is listed as the owner is Ali Ansari, who's an Iranian businessman who's a property magnate and who was sanctioned last October by the United Kingdom.
[01:29:54]  Has not yet been sanctioned by either the United States or the European Union.
[01:29:59]  So he could be the guy.

[01:36:23]  They have no intention of keeping it at a million dollars.
[01:36:27]  Passage in the Democratic-controlled legislature seems imminent, and the governor says he will sign it.
[01:36:32]  So opponents are scrambling to introduce some 11th hour amendments.
[01:36:35]  So we still have the opportunity to try to amend it, and it would be skinning it down, shrink its reach.
[01:36:42]  Representative Jim Walsh says Republicans also want to give the public a chance to weigh in.
[01:36:47]  Another key reform we'd like to get on as an amendment is allow the people to vote on the matter.
[01:36:53]  If it does pass, a court fight is likely over the constitutionality of a tax that doesn't apply evenly to everyone.
[01:37:00]  We're here to make it very loud and clear that the people don't want this tax.
[01:37:05]  We've said so 11 times in the last 100 years.
[01:37:08]  Despite the opposition, Democrats say the measure helps balance the state's regressive tax system while offering more targeted relief for working families.
[01:37:16]  So we go now to our source with knowledge of the situation, Mimi Smith Dvorak, who lives in the state and I'm sure has some hyper-local information about this.
[01:37:26]  Well, first, our Washington state constitution bans income tax.
[01:37:31]  So what they've done now is they backed off and said, well, we won't even take this up until the next legislative year in 2027.
[01:37:40]  So they're putting it off.
[01:37:41]  Now, the biggest promoter of this is this lobby group known as the Washington Association of Cities, which every city, every town, I'm in a podunk town, they all give tons of money to this, and everybody belongs to it, are pushing for it.

[01:38:00]  And as far as voting, we're all mail-in voting, and there's a bunch of nonsense with that.

[02:13:15]  The senator from Louisiana, John Kennedy, said on that issue, the president was, in his words, quote, pissed.
[02:13:22]  During the course of the question, Noam told Kennedy that the president knew about her decision to approve the ad campaign contracts.
[02:13:30]  You can imagine that did not sit well with the White House, certainly with the president as well.
[02:13:34]  And so that appears to have been the tipping point in this moment.
[02:13:37]  There had previously been some frustration by the president as it related to Noam for her handling of the operations, the immigration enforcement operations that had taken place in Minnesota.

[02:13:49]  Well, I have actually the clip that is Kennedy asking her the question in her response.

[02:22:57]  And it then is supposed to activate the tool and do what you told it to do.
[02:23:02]  So that's pretty much what all these AI companies are doing.
[02:23:06]  Like Google, you know, Google knows how to search Google, how to search YouTube transcripts, lots of other things.
[02:23:15]  But if you're building something with any large language model, you have to be very careful because it will, if it can't find a tool or it can't activate the tool, it'll tell you that it used the tool and here's the results because it had it somewhere in its corpus.
[02:23:28]  I mean, it is a nightmare.
[02:23:30]  And the war has been ongoing, and it is a war, between Anthropic and the Department of War.
[02:23:36]  And the CBS had a report on it, which I thought was kind of interesting.
[02:23:42]  The U.S. military attacks on Iran were carried out with the help of artificial intelligence tools from the tech company Anthropic.
[02:23:49]  There's no evidence of this whatsoever, but okay.
[02:23:52]  After the Pentagon announced it was ending their partnership.
[02:23:55]  That's according to the Wall Street Journal.
[02:23:57]  The Pentagon says it has no comment.
[02:23:59]  Anthropic is the company behind the popular AI assistant Claude.
[02:24:03]  The military used a government version for its intelligence and cyber operations, but decided to give it up after a disagreement with Anthropic over limits on how it could be used.
[02:24:12]  Senior business and tech correspondent Jolene Kent spoke exclusively with the company's CEO before the United States launched its attacks on Iran.

[02:25:11]  It's capable of certain things.

[02:25:15]  It's able to not do certain things reliably.
[02:25:18]  And I think we are a good judge of what our models can do reliably and what they cannot do reliably.
[02:25:24]  I was blown away by this.

[02:25:47]  And it's amazing how sometimes you get incredibly detailed, you know, like, you know, the background and the foreground and the style and you do all that.
[02:25:58]  And it's, it's, it's, it's an idea.

[02:26:01]  It's not what I want.
[02:26:02]  Other times, even though I do all that, it doesn't understand.
[02:26:05]  Like my favorite was trying to do a thumb on a scale.
[02:26:08]  I kept having just a thumb without a hand.
[02:26:10]  And then it was like the scale didn't have a dial on it.
[02:26:14]  And then the scale had a hand on it.
[02:26:16]  It was like, it just was like, it was like trying to herd a cat.
[02:26:21]  And, you know, it's that.
[02:26:23]  And then I do a lot of, you know, people are like going, well, you know, instead of reading all the stuff that you read, you should put it in and let AI summarize it for you.
[02:26:31]  And it's like, okay, sometimes it's okay.
[02:26:33]  Sometimes it is just so off the mark.
[02:26:36]  It's like, what was it reading?
[02:26:38]  What do you use for that for summarizing?
[02:26:42]  Well, Claude, I've used Claude.
[02:26:44]  I've used pretty much everything because I just like to play around.
[02:26:48]  I'm absolutely, I love the AI videos.
[02:26:51]  I mean, I just spend hours looking through those.
[02:26:55]  I especially like the cats with guns.
[02:26:59]  Okay.
[02:27:01]  Yeah, I know.
[02:27:01]  It's Soros 2 cat videos.
[02:27:05]  And I can now, I've mostly just been doing it so I can see it.
[02:27:09]  And you can see AI just creeping in everywhere.
[02:27:13]  You know, the commercials it's in, you know, people are using the voices.
[02:27:17]  You know, you can, but it's nice that you can spot the uncanny valley.
[02:27:21]  As far as using it as more than a tool, I think it's like it's like basically it's giving a two-year-old instructions.
[02:27:28]  You got to look over their shoulder all the time.
[02:27:29]  Yeah.
[02:27:30]  The worst is if you, if it does something and you want to adjust it, it's impossible.
[02:27:35]  Yes.
[02:27:36]  It cannot, it cannot iterate with you.
[02:27:38]  It gives you something.
[02:27:39]  You might as well just give it the prompt again.
[02:27:41]  And, you know, like, I'm feeling lucky.
[02:27:43]  Let me see what happens.
[02:27:45]  Darren O'Neill does a pretty good job, though, with this prompting school.

[02:27:52]  But it's, you know, everybody's going, oh, AI, AI, AI.

[02:28:05]  When I was a kid, we had a typewriter with ribbon.

[02:28:10]  Here's the second part to this.
[02:28:11]  President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth both posted on social media Friday, calling for all government agencies to stop using Anthropics AI just hours before U.S. strikes on Iran.
[02:28:25]  I think it was made very clear in some of their statements, in some of their language, that this was retaliatory and punitive.
[02:28:32]  If you had a moment with the president right now, what would you say to him?
[02:28:35]  We are patriotic Americans.
[02:28:37]  We have done everything we have done has been for the sake of this country, for the sake of supporting U.S. national security.
[02:28:45]  We believe in defeating our autocratic adversaries.
[02:28:49]  We believe in defending America.
[02:28:51]  The red lines we have drawn, we drew because we believe that crossing those red lines is contrary to American values.
[02:29:01]  Disagreeing with the government is the most American thing in the world.
[02:29:04]  And we are patriots.
[02:29:05]  In everything we have done here, we have stood up for the values of this country.
[02:29:10]  Yeah.
[02:29:10]  This is bullcrap.
[02:29:11]  They know.
[02:29:12]  They know that this stuff is no good.

[02:29:21]  And then three days later, you know, we shouldn't have rushed that on a Friday afternoon.

[02:29:30]  It's not for altruistic purposes.
[02:29:33]  Not because you don't want mass surveillance, because you know that it's just unstable.
[02:29:38]  The stuff is not good.
[02:29:39]  Now, does it work for code?
[02:29:42]  I mean, there's software engineers.
[02:29:44]  Sir Gene sent me a great video this morning.
[02:29:47]  The software engineer is just like, my life is over.
[02:29:51]  And not because of his job, but the satisfaction that he would get from creating a product.
[02:29:58]  And I understand this.
[02:29:59]  I see software as an art.
[02:30:02]  How you're, you know, you're coding it a certain way.
[02:30:06]  You're deeply involved.
[02:30:07]  You know the entire guts of this thing.
[02:30:10]  And sometimes it can take a year or longer to really ship a fully functional product, depending on what it is.
[02:30:16]  He says, now I just hit a button and it creates a product, and the satisfaction is gone.
[02:30:22]  And what's interesting is that I, as a non-coder, I mean, I understand the concepts and I've done some Python scripting, but nothing.
[02:30:32]  But I understand systems, so I know what I want and I know what the code has to do.
[02:30:37]  I am getting tremendous satisfaction from shipping a product that is created with AI.
[02:30:43]  So it's kind of shifting that, oh, wow, this is awesome type feeling from guys who used to, who did it for a living.
[02:30:51]  And it's, and it's, it's really, it's, I feel the same with No Agenda artists.
[02:30:57]  We had a lot of great artists.
[02:30:58]  They're all gone because they're not, they, you know, that satisfaction of working for an hour on something or longer, you just don't, it's gone.
[02:31:08]  And, and that is, that is the software is the same thing.

[02:31:57]  And, you know, I've read the old newspaper articles and all of the old editorials about how this is horrible because shoes will never fit your feet right.
[02:32:08]  Things will never be right again.
[02:32:10]  You know, the world has changed.
[02:32:12]  Shoemakers were lamenting this, this whole thing, because, you know, it was ruining the business.
[02:32:19]  Well, new tools do that.
[02:32:21]  You know, they replace things.
[02:32:22]  I mean, I could type like a crazy person.
[02:32:26]  I did teletype.
[02:32:27]  I did all that stuff.
[02:32:29]  And first, trying to.
[02:32:32]  People are going, what's teletype?
[02:32:34]  Here, I'll give you a teletype.
[02:32:39]  There she is.
[02:32:40]  Mimi Smith Dvorak.
[02:32:42]  She is typing away.
[02:32:43]  She's sending off information on the wire through the television.
[02:32:46]  Explain the teletype because people don't even know Michael Jackson anymore, so you might as well explain teletype.
[02:32:53]  The teletype was this very large typewriter that was connected to a transmission device where you could send.
[02:33:00]  It was like they had a modem and everything, and you could send information across the telephone lines so the other party would get the actual copy of what you were typing.
[02:33:10]  Now, one time, and they were done by mostly Western Union who had the franchises, and they were very hard to, they were hard to push.
[02:33:20]  You had to really push down hard on the keys.
[02:33:23]  They were long travel, exhausting to use.
[02:33:27]  Occasionally, things would go wrong, and people would dial the wrong number to get to you, so it was dial up.
[02:33:32]  One time when I worked for Master Charge, we got Henry Kissinger's missives going to the White House.
[02:33:38]  Wow.
[02:33:38]  And it's just spinning out and spinning out and spinning out.
[02:33:41]  And it was like, oh, my God, it was at night.
[02:33:43]  So we finally called around.
[02:33:44]  We finally just unplugged the machine because we didn't know what else to do.
[02:33:47]  And we called the local FBI office and explained.
[02:33:52]  And then there was a flurry of activity.
[02:33:53]  And then these two guys came and put the whole thing into a black suitcase and then they left.
[02:33:59]  I wished I'd read it.
[02:34:00]  I really wish I'd read it.
[02:34:01]  I had time.
[02:34:03]  But teletype, so there was teletype.
[02:34:05]  There was also, you know, I was a key punch operator too.
[02:34:09]  We won't even go into that.

[02:34:18]  So whenever new technology comes, everybody laments the old technology.

[02:34:53]  It's just that it's screwed up because it's in the early stages of it.

[02:35:08]  I had an, I think, Apple Link.
