The Matt Walsh Show - Matt Walsh Reacts To Stay At Home Husband TikToks Aired: 2023-09-16 Duration: 12:37 === Homebound Dreams (11:31) === [00:00:00] *sigh* *slurping* [00:00:04] *clink* *click* [00:00:08] *sad music* *typing* [00:00:12] *sip* *sip* [00:00:16] *sip* *sip* [00:00:20] Alright, so today we're gonna- Let's just head back over to TikTok, where we know all of the most compelling content can be found. [00:00:28] The thing on TikTok, there are a lot of different subcultures, different groups of people that have found community. [00:00:35] They've found a place where they can express themselves. [00:00:39] And often this is a very bad thing, because these are groups of people that we should not hear from. [00:00:43] We shouldn't even know they exist. [00:00:46] And unfortunately, the internet gives them a megaphone to announce their existence to the world. [00:00:52] And so today we're going to look at the group who call themselves stay-at-home husbands, or even apparently some of them refer to themselves as house husbands. [00:01:03] So these are the men who are defying gender norms by staying home while their wives work. [00:01:10] And so these are basically, this is like if you want to be a eunuch but you don't want to go through the surgery. [00:01:16] This is a non-surgical Strategy to become a eunuch is what all these guys are. [00:01:22] So, we'll start with... I'm told this is like the... This is the original. [00:01:26] This is one of the original househusbands on TikTok who got this whole trend going. [00:01:31] I like the original much better. [00:01:33] Oh, my God! [00:01:34] He didn't start the trend of being a househusband, but he started the trend of them all talking about what they do during the day or don't do during the day, because they don't do much of anything. [00:01:41] But anyway, let's watch the first video. [00:01:43] Sorry, tough guys. [00:01:44] It's part two of a day in the life of a stay-at-home husband. [00:01:47] When I say check your misogyny at the door, I mean it. [00:01:50] It's the weekend, so you know I gotta let my queen sleep in, so I make her some pancakes. [00:01:54] She likes them with chocolate chippies in them. [00:02:00] On Sundays, we strip. [00:02:01] The sheets. [00:02:01] And then I load the dishwasher. [00:02:03] Next, I borrow my wife's credit card and I go get some groceries. [00:02:05] I check those eggs. [00:02:07] Check out, make my way home, and put the groceries away. [00:02:09] The fridge organized with all her favorite drinks and snacks. [00:02:12] And then I take the trash out to where the men go. [00:02:14] Don't strain yourself, Queen. [00:02:15] You work too hard. [00:02:16] You know the drill. [00:02:16] Follow to end the patriarchy. [00:02:19] So that video was, this video I think is a couple years old now. [00:02:24] So they're probably already divorced. [00:02:26] But if they're not, they will be soon. [00:02:28] Because that's the thing about the, your wives, your wife needs to be able to respect you. [00:02:36] And in a marriage, they need that more than they need someone making pancakes for them in the morning. [00:02:43] So, from the wife's perspective, she might enjoy that. [00:02:47] She wakes up to pancakes. [00:02:49] She doesn't enjoy the fact that she has a husband who uses the phrase chocolate chippies. [00:02:55] But she likes the pancakes, she likes all that. [00:02:58] This is someone who's like her little manservant going around and doing all these things. [00:03:02] It's about time you got here! [00:03:04] And so on the surface level, she might enjoy that she has that. [00:03:09] But underneath that surface is bubbling resentment and a total lack of respect. [00:03:16] The fact is that she doesn't respect you. [00:03:17] Because there might be women who are selfish and materialistic and all that, and so they like the idea of just having a servant rather than an actual husband and a leader in the home. [00:03:27] So they try to talk themselves out of that, but they can't. [00:03:32] Because it's an innate biological impulse, and they might not even be fully conscious of the fact that respect and admiration for your spouse, these things are necessary. [00:03:42] But it still is a need that is not being fulfilled by that guy. [00:03:46] So if you're not doing that, she won't respect you, and that's when the marriage will fall apart. [00:03:50] And I suspect, I haven't seen these other videos, but I suspect that that's going to be a theme that we find in a lot of these. [00:03:56] Have you ever read the fine print that appears when you start browsing in incognito mode? [00:04:00] It says that your activity might still be visible to your employer, your school, or your internet service provider. [00:04:04] To actually stop people from monitoring your online activity, you need to do what I do and use ExpressVPN. [00:04:09] Think about all the times that you've used wifi, coffee shop, hotel, friend's house, anywhere out in public. [00:04:13] Without ExpressVPN, every site you visit can be logged by the admin of that network. [00:04:17] That's still true even if you're in incognito mode. [00:04:20] ExpressVPN is an app that encrypts all of your network data and reroutes it through a network of secure servers [00:04:26] so that your private online activity stays private. [00:04:28] ExpressVPN works on all your devices and is super easy to use. [00:04:31] The app has one button, you tap it to connect, and your browsing activity is secure. [00:04:52] Day one of being a stay-at-home husband. [00:04:55] Made us some tea and cuddled on the couch. [00:04:58] And then I started to pack her lunch before she went to work with all her favorite foods. [00:05:03] Snuck in a love note. [00:05:05] Drove her to work. [00:05:07] Came back to a mess. [00:05:08] Proof of me cleaning the mess. [00:05:10] Juice break. [00:05:12] Put away some leftovers from the night before. [00:05:14] Starting to unpack. [00:05:16] All right, okay, stop. [00:05:18] Of course, this is the kind of guy who takes a juice break and drinks it with a straw in his own house. [00:05:25] Sensors indicate that you are indeed a weenie. [00:05:29] That's already enough of a problem. [00:05:30] You know what? [00:05:31] I didn't need to see any of the rest. [00:05:32] You could have just shown me that part. [00:05:34] You could have shown me juice break and he's sitting there in his own house by himself drinking with a straw. [00:05:39] Who pulls out a straw? [00:05:40] What kind of man pulls out a straw? [00:05:43] What, do you have like a stash of straws somewhere in your pantry? [00:05:47] And you want to drink some juice, so you go and you take a straw? [00:05:50] You could have just showed me that, and I would have known the rest of this already. [00:05:54] The fact that he's a house husband would not, I would have already known that. [00:05:57] He says that he does pack her all of her favorite foods for lunch when she goes to work. [00:06:02] And I'm not trying to be rude when I say this, but maybe he, like maybe don't pack her all of her favorite foods. [00:06:09] You know, maybe only a couple of them, maybe one, maybe none. [00:06:13] Might help her out. [00:06:14] But, you know, there's, I'm already noticing a trend in just these first two. [00:06:20] Let's watch one more and we'll see how, before I say what the trend is. [00:06:23] It's very subtle. [00:06:24] Welcome to a day in my life as a stay-at-home husband. [00:06:26] Because Lucy booked an off-Broadway show, she's currently working two full-time jobs. [00:06:30] I think it's time to start pulling my weight around here. [00:06:32] I started off the morning by making my wife's favorite breakfast, a chocolate smoothie with plenty of spinach and a bagel with butter and honey. [00:06:38] After breakfast, I took out the trash, changed our flights for Christmas, and headed to the grocery store. [00:06:42] I got plenty of groceries for the week, and our grand total from TJ's was $143.19. [00:06:46] After putting the food away and getting some work done on my computer, I headed to the gym. [00:06:52] After the gym, I grabbed some coffee with a friend. [00:06:54] And wow, where has the day gone, because the sun's already going down. [00:06:57] Once I got home, I meal prepped for Lucy's lunches for the next couple of days. [00:07:00] I made salmon bowls with rice, broccoli, and sriracha mayo. [00:07:03] After meal prepping, I cleaned our whole apartment, scrubbing our bathroom. [00:07:06] Vacuuming the floors and mopping as well. [00:07:09] Once Lucy got home, I had a little surprise for her. [00:07:11] Fresh flowers, her favorite sweet treat, and a little handwritten note too. [00:07:15] I'm so proud of this girl and all that she's accomplishing right now. [00:07:18] So anything I can do to support her living her dreams makes me so happy. [00:07:24] She is so not into this guy at all, you can tell. [00:07:29] Here's the trend, though. [00:07:30] Here's the common thread. [00:07:31] You notice something? [00:07:32] There are no kids. [00:07:34] There are no kids in the picture. [00:07:35] So these are not even stay-at-home dads. [00:07:37] These are stay-at-home husbands. [00:07:40] Why can't you go work also? [00:07:44] Even if you were to decide that, well, we want to bring down the patriarchy, and so we don't want to have the wife stay home with the kids. [00:07:52] God forbid, you know, you fulfill that need that children have to be around their mothers. [00:07:56] We don't want to do that. [00:07:57] Well, there are no children! [00:07:58] So what are you doing all day? [00:08:02] Here's the thing, if this was like flipped around, I would still have an issue, actually. [00:08:07] If it was the wife who was stay-at-home doing nothing all day, when there are no kids in the picture. [00:08:14] Now, I fully believe being a stay-at-home mom, when you're taking care of kids, my wife's a stay-at-home mom. [00:08:20] And there's more than enough to do during the day, and that is a very important... It's not a job, okay? [00:08:25] It's not a job. [00:08:26] A job is like a 9-to-5. [00:08:27] You punch in, you punch out, you get a paycheck. [00:08:29] It is work, though, okay? [00:08:31] Not all work is a job. [00:08:34] And so that's very important work, to be a stay-at-home mom. [00:08:37] There are no kids, though. [00:08:39] You should be doing something else with it. [00:08:40] Like, yeah, you might as well go out. [00:08:42] You should have a job if there are no kids. [00:08:44] You should be contributing to the household that way. [00:08:46] Because there's just no kids in the house? [00:08:49] How much cleaning could there possibly be? [00:08:50] You have nothing to do all day, every single day. [00:08:57] That's not really acceptable for a woman or a man. [00:09:03] You should have work to do. [00:09:05] Everyone should be doing some kind of work during the day. [00:09:10] So that's what makes us all the worse. [00:09:12] There's not even any kids. [00:09:14] When I was first... See, I thought we were going to see a bunch of stay-at-home dads. [00:09:18] We don't even have that. [00:09:19] They don't even have dads. [00:09:20] Alright, let's watch one more. [00:09:24] Welcome to a day in my life as a 26-year-old breadwinner. [00:09:27] You may have seen my stay-at-home husbands videos, so this is my day. [00:09:30] I'm an actress in New York City and I also work remotely full-time as an executive assistant. [00:09:35] I woke up at 6 30 and I made my ice latte the night before because I knew that future Lucy would be so grateful. [00:09:40] I promise this isn't a hickey, it's just a curling iron burn. [00:09:43] I finished getting ready, I grabbed my little bagel and an apple, then I headed down to the Actors' Equity building for the audition at 7 a.m. [00:09:50] I signed in and was shockingly number two on the list. [00:09:52] This was my outfit. [00:09:53] I still had a good hour or so to have some devotional time. [00:09:56] I worked for about three hours in the waiting room and then at noon they called my name and put me in the next group. [00:10:01] The audition went great! [00:10:01] I headed home and got an exciting self-tape request for an absolute dream role. [00:10:05] Chandler made me some lunch. [00:10:06] What's the guy's name? [00:10:08] Chandler? [00:10:08] To take a musical theater dance class with one of my best friends. [00:10:11] While I answered a few work emails Chandler made this delicious cookie skillet. [00:10:14] Of course his name is Chandler. [00:10:16] Of course. [00:10:16] And we headed to see a movie with our friend. [00:10:18] I knew that, too. [00:10:18] I wish I predicted that. [00:10:20] I knew that guy was Chandler before she even said it. [00:10:22] Chandler is the stupidest name I've ever heard in my life. [00:10:26] It's not even a name. [00:10:27] It's barely even a word. [00:10:29] Here's what I'm trying... What's going on in this? [00:10:30] So, she's an actress, and he's a house husband. [00:10:35] No one's working in this family, and they live... How are they doing this? [00:10:39] No one has a job between the two of them. [00:10:42] And they live... Where do they live? [00:10:43] In New York? [00:10:47] And somehow they're not living in a box under a bridge. [00:10:52] I can only assume that they have a friend who lets them record their TikToks in their apartment and most of the time they actually live under a bridge because I don't know how... She's an actress and he's a house husband. [00:11:05] Oh, she's also a remote executive assistant. [00:11:11] So there's a lot of questions to be asked there, but I also enjoyed how she clarified it's not a hickey because she wanted to make sure. === Respect in Marriage (01:21) === [00:11:21] It's like, I'm not actually sleeping with this guy. [00:11:23] She wanted to make that clear. [00:11:25] As I said at the beginning, I don't think we need to watch anymore. [00:11:28] I think we get the point. [00:11:29] So we understand. [00:11:30] It doesn't work. [00:11:32] It just doesn't work because, as I said at the top, respect, you know, we talked about this in the past, the need for respect in a marriage. [00:11:42] For the man, you know. [00:11:44] And of course, as a husband, you should respect your wife, obviously. [00:11:48] But the needs are a little bit different, and it manifests itself in different ways. [00:11:53] But often we talk about how the man needs to be respected in the marriage. [00:11:58] And that's true. [00:11:58] That's a need that the man needs to receive, that respect. [00:12:01] But it's also a need for the woman. [00:12:06] She needs to be able to feel that respect for her own husband. [00:12:10] You are hairy like animal! [00:12:12] And if she doesn't, then the whole thing falls apart because the respect is what is kind of the gasoline in the engine of the marriage that keeps it going. [00:12:22] And there's just no way you can't respect that. [00:12:25] A man who does not Not only does he not provide, he doesn't even contribute to providing for the family. [00:12:32] There's no respect there. [00:12:33] So, they're all going to be divorced soon enough, but they're going to get their TikTok.
