The Matt Walsh Show - Matt Walsh Reviews RAPSTAR By Polo G Aired: 2021-05-15 Duration: 09:15 === Polo G's Parenting Tip (09:15) === [00:00:00] Okay, so it's time to dip our toes back into the music scene and see what songs the kids are listening to today. [00:00:06] The one that was brought to my attention by someone in the comment section, it's a new joint. [00:00:11] It's some real dope sh** from my homie Polo G. I've been a big fan of Polo G for a long time. [00:00:16] As everyone knows, Polo G, real name Taurus Tremani Bartlett, Born January 6, 1999, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive. [00:00:25] In 2018, he rose to prominence with the singles Finer Things and Pop Out. [00:00:29] In 2021, he released the song Rapstar, which debuted at number one on the Hot 100. [00:00:34] The song became his first number one hit on the Hot 100, and his first solo Top 10 single. [00:00:38] I know all this stuff off the top of my head. [00:00:40] This is just information I know as a fan. [00:00:42] Anyway, Rapstar is the song, and it's been number one on YouTube for, you know, weeks now. [00:00:47] It has like 50 million views. [00:00:49] Big deal, big hit. [00:00:50] Let's check it out. [00:01:05] What kind of dealership transaction is this? [00:01:07] I'm a cow while I'm in it. I have planes flying, crowds screaming, money counters chains clanging. [00:01:12] I guess this is how it sounds. [00:01:14] Okay, quick, quick thing here. What, what kind of dealership transaction is this? [00:01:20] The dude shows up with a duffel bag full of cash at the dealership. And then the guy literally has [00:01:27] a silver platter with all the keys for his cars ready. [00:01:31] Is this how it works for rappers? [00:01:32] Is this what it means to be a rapper? [00:01:33] That that's how it works when you go to a car dealership? [00:01:35] I suggest you get started on the paperwork. [00:01:38] I bought a pickup truck a couple months ago, and I was there for hours. [00:01:41] I was doing paperwork, going through the warranty plans. [00:01:45] They never talk about warranties. [00:01:46] Financing. [00:01:48] All that? [00:01:49] I guess I should have just walked in with a bag of cash, thrown it on the table, and said, hey, I'm taking that car right there. [00:01:55] Peace out. [00:01:56] And then peeled out in the car. [00:01:59] But of course, if I had done that, then the person at the dealership would have been like, uh, sir, you gave me $87.12. [00:02:04] That's not enough to buy a car. [00:02:06] Anyway, but Polo G has more money to throw around than I do, you know, admittedly, and that's fine. [00:02:11] And he's buying rides for all his homies, which is great. [00:02:14] Very sweet of him. [00:02:16] If I was a homie waiting in line to get my car, I might stop Polo G and say, listen, Polo G, look, I know beggars can't be choosers, but can I get another color besides white? [00:02:28] I don't want to spend every other day for the next seven years at a car wash, if you don't mind. [00:02:32] I'd be a little ungrateful, though, I guess. [00:02:34] All right, let's keep listening. [00:02:35] Okay, I gotta stop it already. [00:02:36] I mean, it does kind of sound like you're kidding. [00:02:38] $2,000 a minute? [00:02:38] I've been making like two thousand a minute. [00:02:40] So high up... [00:02:41] Okay, I gotta stop it already. [00:02:42] I mean, it does kind of sound like you're kidding. [00:02:45] Two thousand a minute? [00:02:48] You've been making two thousand dollars a minute is what you tell us, Polo G. [00:02:53] That's... [00:02:55] I need a calculator. [00:02:57] So it's 2,000 a minute, 120 grand an hour, 24 hours in a day. [00:03:02] Someone help me out with the math. [00:03:04] So that's like what, like 2.8 million a day, right? [00:03:08] Let's call it 3 million. [00:03:09] Maybe Polo G's been a little bit modest. [00:03:11] So we're talking, this guy is making over a billion dollars a year. [00:03:17] Who is, is this Jeff, is this what Jeff Bezos looks like? [00:03:21] Not what I expected, to be honest. [00:03:24] Not to stereotype, okay? [00:03:25] Okay, don't take that the wrong way. [00:03:27] [Music] [00:03:29] [Music] [00:03:58] Okay, let's check out the lyrics here. [00:04:01] Um, he's a good guy. [00:04:02] He says, I won't love a hoe after we have sexual relations. [00:04:08] She can't get near me. [00:04:09] Only bitch I give a conversation to is Siri. [00:04:12] My pants am eerie. [00:04:13] Yes, I'm winning clearly. [00:04:15] I'm the chosen one. [00:04:16] See my potential so they fear me. [00:04:18] Lately I've been praying God. [00:04:20] I wonder, can you hear me? [00:04:21] Thinking about the old me. [00:04:22] I swear I miss you dearly. [00:04:24] Stay down till you come up. [00:04:25] I've been sticking to that theory. [00:04:26] Every day a battle. [00:04:27] I'm exhausted. [00:04:29] And I'm weary. [00:04:30] Now this is great. [00:04:31] I love how he goes from bragging about all his hoes and bragging about the brand name of his pants. [00:04:38] He's proud of his pants, and then in the next line, he's crying out to God in agony. [00:04:42] I, too, am extraordinarily humble. [00:04:44] That's quite an emotional rollercoaster that he has us on. [00:04:49] Every day's a battle. [00:04:50] It's a struggle. [00:04:51] In my $10,000 pants, on my private jet, after I just bought 10 BMWs for no reason, I'm str- God! [00:04:58] Why hast thou forsaken me? [00:04:59] me. [00:05:00] Alright, let's continue. [00:05:01] Public went along, my eyes teary. [00:05:02] I fought through it all, but that shit hurt me severely. [00:05:03] I been getting high to hide behind my insecurities. [00:05:04] Taking different pills, but I know what I am. [00:05:05] Copped a BMW, new deposit, I picked up another bag. [00:05:06] Like, "Fuck it, I'ma count while I'm in it." [00:05:07] I heard planes flying, crowds screaming, money counter chains. [00:05:08] Clanking shit, I guess that's how it sound when you winning. [00:05:09] I ain't joking, do it sound like I'm kidding. [00:05:10] I been making like two thousand a minute. [00:05:16] So high up through the clouds, I was swimming. [00:05:30] I'm probably gonna drown when I'm in it. [00:05:34] I bet she gonna get loud when I'm in it. [00:05:35] And we might have a child when I'm finished. [00:05:36] They say I'm part reverse, never put out a weak verse. [00:05:37] Homicides when we lurk, I'm stuck 'til my feet hurt. [00:05:38] I'm stuck 'til my feet hurt. [00:05:43] Okay, let's review here for a moment what has happened so far. [00:05:47] Here he is in this part of the song, after he's bragged about his pants and his hoes and his cars and money and jewelry, is now holding a small child. [00:05:54] I mean, he's holding his own child, presumably, while he raps the following. [00:06:00] I ain't jokin', do it sound like I'm kiddin'? [00:06:02] I've been makin' like 2,000 a minute. [00:06:04] So high up through the clouds I was swimmin'. [00:06:07] I'm probably gonna drown when I'm in it. [00:06:09] I bet she gon' get loud when I'm in it. [00:06:11] And we might have a child when I'm finished. [00:06:14] They say I'm pock rebirth, never put out a week first. [00:06:17] Homicides when we lurk, I'ma step till my feet hurt. [00:06:20] Okay, now in fairness, the kid, he wasn't there for the last two lines, so that's good. [00:06:26] You know, that is responsible parenting. [00:06:29] So, you know, he said to his kid, okay, son, daddy has to brag about killing people now, so you're gonna have to leave the room for this part. [00:06:36] But he was holding the kid while he said, I bet she gon' get loud while I'm in it, and we might have a child when I'm finished. [00:06:43] Is this his version of the birds and the bees talk? [00:06:47] Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina. [00:06:50] I appreciate that he's trying to include his son in his job, you know, like a take your child to work day sort of thing. [00:06:55] Take your child to the rap video set. [00:06:57] But maybe bring him in for a song that isn't about, you know, having sex with hoes and killing your enemies. [00:07:05] I realize that might eliminate every song in Polo G's catalog, but either way, just a little parenting tip. [00:07:12] Far be it for me to dull out advice, but there it is. [00:07:33] So he says, anxiety killing me, I just want to leave earth. [00:08:28] And even rhyming in multiple syllables, so credit where it's due. [00:08:33] And I guess the message I'm getting here from the song is that, listen, you know, gangstas have feelings too, I guess. [00:08:40] Which is also the plot of The Sopranos, incidentally.
