Uh so the first one is Mayor Eric Adams indicted following federal investigation.

Eric Adams, let's go ahead and um for those of you that might not be necessarily as politically inclined.
Here he is.
Okay, Eric LeRoy Adams, born September 1st, 1960, is an American politician, a former police officer, currently serving as the 110th mayor of New York City since 2022.
Ideologically on the right of Democratic Party, Adams was an officer in the NY City Transit Police, and then the New York City Police Department for more than 20 years, retiring at the rank of captain.
He served in the New York State Senate from 2006 to 2013, representing the 20th Senate district in Brooklyn.
In November 2013, Adams was elected Brooklyn Borough president, the first African American to hold the position and re-elected in November 2017.
Okay.
So here he is, right?

So he came in as mayor.
So he's a Democrat.

New York City of uh City College of Technology, John J. College of Criminal Justice, and Maris College are his alma mater.

Anyway, so let's go ahead and explain it because the majority of you guys want me to explain it.

Anyway, so this is how it works, guys.
Because I've done this hundreds of times myself, so I'll explain how an indictment works.
The case agent, right, goes over to the grand jury.
The grand jury's convened to peer review people, not to be confused with a trial, a jury trial, okay, or sorry, uh a trial jury.
There's like 20, 30 people in there.
Agent goes in there with his federal prosecutor, A USA.
They explain the case, they present evidence, etc.
They walk out the grand jury room.
The grand jury deliberates, and then after they deliberate, they hand something called a true bill of indictment.
Once that true bill of indictment, well, they deliberate, right?
And they got to establish that there's probable cause.
Want to be clear about this, guys.
Probable cause is here, okay?
Beyond a reasonable doubt is here.
Way higher.
It doesn't take much to get probable cause.
All right.
That is the threshold for arrest in the United States of America, both federal and state.
So if they feel that there's sufficient uh evidence for probable cause, they uh file a troop of indictment that gets filed with the clerk, then the judge hands out what's called a federal arrest warrant or a warrant for arrest, right?
The agency that got that um did the that's doing the investigation, they will get the arrest warrant, and then they can choose a little fun part here.
They can choose if they're gonna execute the warrant themselves or if they're gonna delegate the warrant to United States Marshal Service.
Most of the time, they're gonna probably do it themselves if they're a bigger agency.
FBI, HSI, et cetera.
They typically do their own warrants.
But if it's a smaller agency, ATF, Fish of Wildlife Service, IRS, whatever it may be, they might delegate it to the Marshals.
Why do they do that?
They delegate it to the Marshals because the Marshals, this is all they do.
Bed people down, make sure where they're supposed to be.
Then what they'll do is that they have the warrant, they'll call you and say, hey, do you want to roll while we're doing our roundup?
Because what the Marshalls will do is, and I've never told this on Fed Reacts before.
So I'm actually uh glad that you guys want me to tell the story.
Every time I explain this, I remember something else to bring to the table for you guys.
When the Marshals get enough warrants, they'll go out and do a roundup.
Okay.
So let's say 10 arrest warrants were filed with different agencies, and about five or six of those agencies delegate the warrants to the marshals.
The marshals will take those warrants, go out, look for the guys that are in question that need to be arrested, they'll bed them down.
What betting them down means they'll make sure that they are at the address that they're supposed to be at.
If they're not there, they'll go find them, right?
So and the beauty with the marshals is they have more time and resources and effort to go find people.
This is what they fucking do.
A big part of their mission, they have a three-part mission.
Fugitive task forces.
Um the second is witness protection, and then third is courtroom security at the federal level.
The fugitive apprehension stuff is the big thing that they do, and they have a whole unit that just does that.
So they bet the guy down for you, right?
So if you don't got time to sit there and do surveillance and see where the guy's at, he's always moving or whatever.
You delegate it to the marshals, they do it for you.
Then when they do their roundup, let's say they bet him down.
Hey, we know where he's at.
We're gonna go pick him up on this day at six o'clock in the morning.
Awesome.
Do you want to roll along?
Hell yeah, I want to roll along.
He's my target.
I want to talk to him as soon as he's arrested.
You go out with them, they do the arrest, they bring him to you, and then you could go ahead and do the interview.
They do all the hard work for you.
Bigger agencies, a lot of the times, FBI, HSI, they want to do it themselves.
DEA a lot of times, I get it.
They want to be there to pick them up, ask him questions right there on the scene.
Understandable, right?
But it's actually pretty smart to delegate your warrant to the marshal sometimes because what ends up happening is let's say you want to do the warrant yourself, you go to his house, he ain't there.
Now he knows the feds are looking for him, he absconds.
It's gonna be a lot harder for you to find them.
And then if you try to delegate the warrant after the fact that Marshallton refused the right to take that warrant, they'll be like, fuck that, I don't want to deal with it now.
You already tried, you failed, you burned it, now we gotta deal with it.
No thanks.
So anyway, um, judge hands the warrant, agency gets the warrant.
Let's say they want to execute it themselves.
In this case, it looks like the FBI is doing it themselves.
They show up at their house.
Now, in this case, the FBI's gonna delegate the warrant to the marshals because they know who he is.
He's a public servant, he's the mayor.
Um, he's not gonna run.
He's obviously gonna be at the address.
He's probably coordinated with his attorney to contact the FBI when he's gonna surrender when they show up at his house.
They're gonna do it nice and peacefully.
So, yeah.

So let's see what remains sealed, so it's unclear what charges the indictment is CBS News New York, but it remains sealed, so it's unclear what charges Adams will face.
It does make him the first sitting mayor in New York City history to be indicted.
Tonight we have live pictures outside City Hall there on the left and Gracie Mansion on the right.
Relatively quiet at the moment, but a different scene expected in the coming days in both venues when the mayor will have to enter a plea to the charges.

Well, Christina Morris and a tape-to-video message sent through his attorney tonight.
Mayor Adams is maintaining his innocence, though he doesn't specify what exactly he's being charged with.
Adams said that he's been fighting injustices throughout his life and vowed to fight what he calls these injustices with every ounce of his strength and spirit.
It is now my belief that the federal government intends to charge me with crimes.
If so, these charges will be entirely false based on lies.
In a video statement Wednesday night, Mayor Eric Adams says he will fight back against the federal criminal charges.
I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you, that I would be a target and a target.
I became over the last few months, federal investigators have raided the homes and seized electronics from the mayor, and many in his inner circle.
And just so you guys know, the FBI is running this investigation.
They've done multiple search warrants on him.
Um you can see her look, November 2nd, 2023, um, taking his devices, et cetera.
Investigators have raided the homes and seized electronics from the mayor and many in his inner circle, including former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who stepped down earlier this month.
So there's a traffic jam of investigations, subpoenas, searches, devices being seen.
But this is the first thing we've seen that will actually result, we are told, in a charge being brought forth tomorrow.
Earlier Wednesday, Congresswoman Alex So the grand jury probably passed a true bill of indictment yesterday, yesterday, guys.
Um, and that's why he knows uh that he's gonna that there was an arrest warrant probably filed on behalf because as soon as the um the indictment is dropped, or there's a true bill, it gets filed with the clerk and an arrest warrant is filed for his arrest.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the most prominent Democrat to call for the mayor to resign.
Posting on social media, the flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening government function.
For the good of the city, he should resign.
Adam shot back, penning in part for anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crime should not be in jail to now say that the second black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo is the height of hypocrisy.
Wednesday, the outgoing school's chancellor insisted his decision to retire in the middle of the academic year this December was made before federal agents raided his home, which the 60 boom uh two-year-old shares with fiance first deputy mayor, Sheena Wright, and the home of his brother, deputy mayor for public safety, Philip Banks.
David is my brother.
And the banks family.
I valued uh Phil who rose to the And just so you guys know, this invest he got indicted basically for taking money from the Turkish government.
We'll go into more detail on this.

So guys, um, there's certain crimes that the FBI does exclusively, okay.
There's three that I could think of off the top of my head.
Number one is terrorism.
That's their number one programmatic area in focus.
Number two is public corruption, which obviously when you're talking about mayors, dirty cops, etc.
And then uh third is espionage.
These are the top three cases that the FBI does and prioritize, and then bank robberies as well.
But bank robberies is more because it's a legacy crime that they've done forever.
So um, so yeah.
But this investigation stems from accepting money from the Turkish government, which is kind of funny because a lot of our politicians accept money from another foreign government, if you guys know what I mean.
Level of being the highest ranking person in charge of the police department.
Patrol force force.
And tonight the mayor is getting ahead of what's becoming a growing list of calls for his resignation, saying in the statement that he can understand why New Yorkers will be would be concerned that he can't continue to do the job while facing these accusations.
But saying, quote, New Yorkers elected me to lead this city.
So quote, lead it.
I will.

A whole lot to go through here, Marsha, the angry, defiant mayor tonight.
We looked at him there requesting an immediate trial.
That's a stunning thing to do.
What what's going on there?
I think that's well, he can request a speedy trial, but um, you know, he's gonna have to him and his lawyer are gonna have to put that in.
So we'll see what happens.
I mean, I'm interested to see if they're gonna give him bond.
I think they're gonna give him bond, right?
So it's actually not in his best interest to do a speedy trial, but we'll see what happens.
This is actually interesting.

The real question is what are the charges and who else may be involved and what are they what charge with as well.
You know, Maurice and I interviewed the mayor back in November um during a live broadcast, and I asked him point blank if I f if he felt he was being targeted.
He gave a political correct answer.
But tonight he alluded to something else in that in that video statement.
He's believes he is being targeted.
Well, he believes in according to that statement, he believes that he was targeted by the Justice Department after he uh publicly attacked the um immigration policies of the Biden administration.
And I think that you can understand that some New Yorkers may believe.
Well, at least at least he did that, because um the immigration is through the wooz out right now, guys.
That what he says is true because he did take a very strident stance against the president's immigration policy at a time when the president was running for re-election and really cared about that.
And it was sort of interesting that um the raid that was done on the home of his chief fundraiser Brianna Suggs was on the very morning that he was in Washington at the White House for a conference on immigration, and he had to turn around and come back.
There's a nexus there.
He really feels he can beat this.
Does that appear to be a real thing?
I mean, like you said, an everyday person may look at this and say, look.
Well, I'll tell you guys this.
He got indicted by the Southern District of New York, if I'm not mistaken.
Um they don't normally lose.
So this is gonna be an uphill battle for him.
And normally when they're going after powerful people like this, especially, they cross their T's and dot their I's guys.
Um they're not gonna just indict a sitting mayor unless they're 100% sure that they can get him.
Um like I said before, FBI Southern District of New York, extremely aggressive in Manhattan.
Um, and they have a 90 plus percent win rate.
That's the same district that actually indicted Diddy.
So um, you know, same AUSA's office that indicted Diddy, so they're doing crazy work this year, bro.
Crazy work.
They they got Casanova, they got 6'9, they got Locosa Nostra in the 80s, Ray Rudy Giuliani did that.
Eric Adams, did he?
They're putting a lot of work, man.
Southern District New York.
He feels he fought immigration policies and now he's being persecuted.
He really feels he has a case.
Well, here's the thing.
Public uh corruption charges in cases are very difficult to prove.
And even in cases where there's been convictions, like Joe Prococo, who was a top aid to uh Governor Cuomo, they are overturned.
So he does feel he has a chance.
And remember, if he fights it and he gets an immediate trial, I mean, I don't know how immediate it can be.
Federal um, you know, federal government takes a long time, but if he does, he might be able to even beat it, and he could conceivably run for re-election.
Hard to believe, but he could.
You've been covering politics in this city for a long time.
Just a minute.
A minute or two, Marsha.
Historically speaking, have you ever seen anything like this happen so quickly?
I mean, the commissioner, the former commissioner resigns two days after the acting commissioner is in office.
His home is also raided.
So many dominoes falling so quickly.
Well, remember that this probe actually began la um no last November, so it's 10 months.
So it's not as if it was just a minute.
It just seems like it's very big because all of a sudden a whole bunch of things happened.
They served more subpoenas this summer.
They then sought subpoenas from some of the top aids.
What it says is that they have developed information as they started to branch out from this this probe, and that's caused them to seek more information.
And that's why they were seeking the phones and and documents from people um going forward.
Widening the net.
All right.
The politics, so much going on here.
What does your gut tell you what's gonna happen next?
Well, I think that's what's gonna happen is two things.
Number one, there's gonna be a lot of uh cow an avalanche of calls for him to resign.
There are tonight.
And then and then you have to see whether he agrees.
But then there's another thing that has to happen.
The governor of the state of New York does have the ability to remove him from office.
It remains to be seen whether she does or whether she lets him have his day in court, but there's gonna be pressure on her as well to to remove him from office.
We have to wait to see what happens.
Because remember this, he needs to fill out the rest of his government.
A lot of people have resigned.
How is he gonna get people to take these jobs if he's under a cloud?
And how does the city continue to run under this kind of situation?
Well, he's gonna he has an argument to that.
He says, I've been investigated since November.
Crime is down, jobs are up, tourism is up.
I got a record.
That's his answer.
Yeah.
Okay.

Professor, you know, we don't know what these charges are just yet.
The indictment remains sealed, but do you think that they must be pretty serious if you're going to charge a sitting mayor of New York City?
Chris Christine, I do think that that is likely the case, and I think that what we know about the Southern District of New York and federal prosecutors in general.
Let's see if he says exactly what I just said a second ago.
Mind you, guys, I didn't watch this video before.
I like to watch the videos when I'm with you guys, uh, to get a real reaction.
Let's see what he says about the Southern District of New York General is that they are not likely to bring a case against a prominent figure unless they really feel that they've got the entire thing buttoned up uh very tightly.
We don't know.
They're essentially part of the complex And he's a law professor of Hofstroke.

complexity here is that there are four separate investigations.
The three primary investigations and the three likely sources of the charges are one of the One of the three, this seems like the most likely, and the one that's being reported as uh, you know, according to the insiders who seem to uh have sources on this, that this is uh in tied to likely uh Mayor Adams acting as an unregistered foreign agent and particularly vis-a-vis his relationship with the members of the Turkish government and Turkish nationals uh funneling can't campaign contributions to him in exchange for some official action.
But as Marsha said, corruption charges and there's a big one because there was a Turkish basically like a building, like a Turkish building that they wanted to erect that Mayor Adams allegedly kind of pushed through at the advice of not doing so quickly with the fire department.
He basically pushed some paper through to get things done expedited.
Um and you know, they might look at that as a misuse of authority, etc.
He also got some flights uh via Turkish air, um, first class, you know, fully comped, all that other shit.
So um that's I think the angle we don't know for sure yet because we don't have the indictment, but these are the rumors right now.
Are very very difficult to prove, and even on appeal, as she said, where there have been some convictions, uh, it is difficult to establish that the official act, the quid pro quo that was taken in response to even uh foreign uh foreign donations is one that can be categorized as corrupt as opposed to politics as usual.
This will be an interesting matter for sure.
Professor, before we let you go, what are the mechanics of what happens next?
The indictment is unsealed, then what happens to the mayor?
Does he go into a courtroom?
Does he face a judge?
What happens?
It the indictment is likely to be unsealed tomorrow.
It appears that Mayor Adams will probably negotiate a which means today, by the way.
Surrender that may be tomorrow, it may be early next week.
If he's ultimately in a position where he has to resign, then Jamani Williams, the public advocate, would take over, and Williams would have to call for a special election, which would be 80 days uh within the 80 days after Williams called for it.
And then there's another election that's already scheduled for next year.
That would take place as well.

Um, he may be charged with acting as an unregistered foreign agent for taking actions as mayor after receiving donations from foreign sources according to news.

Official uh report a probe conducted by U.S. Attorney's Office of Manhattan focus on whether Adam's campaign conspired with a Brooklyn Construction Company to funnel foreign money into the campaign through a straw donor scheme.
In the video response issue Wednesday night, uh Adams denied any wrongdoing and said he would remain in office.
I'll fight these injustices with every ounce of strength in my spirit.
Federal investigators conducted a raid of his chief fundraiser Brianna Suggs in November of last year, prompting a seizure of the mayor's own phones and iPad days later.
And here's here just understand, guys.
That means that they found evidence, right?
If they raided her house, and then they went ahead and seize his items later, that means they had probable cause to go ahead and seize his stuff.
And guys, getting a federal search warrant is not easy.
So the fact that the feds went ahead and got federal search once warrants on his devices is a big fucking deal.
Okay, they had to get quite a bit of probable cause to be able to do that.
Um, and more recently they seized electronic devices from the deputy mayor of public safety and the first deputy mayor and city police commissioner and schools chancellor and many others.
So they basically got devices and information from everyone.
And keep in mind, I guarantee you guys that some of these people are probably gonna play ball and cooperate with the FBI.

That's how they were able to indict him.

David Banks' unexpected retirement as New York City School's Chancellor at the end of the school year continues the resignations of Mayor Eric Adams close circle, who are under FBI investigations.
Some political analysts say a lot of eyes on City Hall as of late have less to do with policy and more with who's next.
Well, the optics are awful.
David Shapiro is director of the inspection and oversight program at John J. College.
I I haven't seen a case where so many investigations are swirling around the orbit of one individual in the name of the mayor.
On September 4th, federal investigators raided the Harlem home David Banks shares with his partner, first deputy mayor Sheena Wright.
Their electronic devices were also seized.
Wright was appointed by Adams in 2023.
Raids were conducted at the home of Philip Banks, the third, the Chancellor's brother and current deputy mayor for public safety.
And the home of former NYPD officer Tim Pearson.
Pearson is a senior public safety advisor.
Investigations of Adam's circle began last November.

I guarantee you, someone in a circle is cooperating.
