- We're back with the Health Ranger Radio Show.
My name is Mike Adams, the Health Ranger.
I'm your host.
I'm also the editor of naturalnews.com.
And today, we are joined by Charles Strand, the president of Sun Water Systems out of Fort Worth, Texas.
We're also known as Aquasana, and they make countertop water filters, shower filters, and a couple other different products that can turn your ordinary tap water into clean water.
Filtered water free of the chemical contaminants that are causing all of the stir in the headlines these days.
So thanks for joining us again, Charles.
My pleasure.
Before the break, I asked you about bottled water.
It's important that people know that even the Coke and Pepsi products that are out there are actually made originally from a public water source.
They come from tap water.
Now of course, that's filtered.
From tap water.
About, you know, the estimates are that about 55% of all bottled water is filtered tap water.
The problem with it, even if they filtered it properly, which you have no way of knowing that because bottled water is unregulated, as long as it's bottled and sold within the same state, there's no regulations on it, which is why most of them make sure they're bottling it and selling it within the same state.
But even if it was pure through whatever filtration process they were using it, you put it in a plastic bottle, it's no longer pure.
The materials that plastic's made of will end up in that water.
All the studies that have ever been done show that there are synthetic organic chemicals in every bottled water that's out there.
The only real way to get chemical-free water is to filter it yourself and store it in glass containers or stainless steel, something other than plastic.
There's been a lot of press about BPA, bisphenol A. That's a chemical that's used in virtually every plastic bottle.
There's one company making a BPA-free bottle for babies, I noticed, so there's some attention to it.
What if you took water and put it in a plastic bottle and then filtered it through your filter?
Would it remove the BPA? It's a synthetic organic chemical.
That and pithylate are the two main things that leach out of plastic.
The bottled water industry has fought for decades to keep from being regulated.
City water systems have to test for those two contaminants.
Bottled water companies don't.
So it's really kind of a double standard there.
But that's changing.
The bottled water companies are getting a lot of bad press, and rightfully so.
Not only are people paying a premium price for a low-quality product, but it's causing a tremendous pollution problem.
Sixty million plastic bottles a day being disposed of in the United States alone is causing a huge problem and for no reason.
You can get ten times the quality with a good home water filtration system for one tenth the price, far more convenience, and with no pollution.
It really is the logical solution.
Do you know any statistics on the average number of bottles per user, per consumer?
Well, we've calculated it, and on our website we have a counter on the homepage.
And one filtration system, by a person that's using bottled water now, switching to their home filtration system will prevent two semi-trailer loads of plastic from being disposed of in the environment over the next five years.
Wow.
It's a very big impact.
I mean, when you consider people consume, you know, five, six, eight, ten of these little plastic water bottles a day, and you can get better quality by filtering it yourself.
You know, our Bottle Your Own campaign that was started last year where every water filtration system we sell comes with a nice glass refillable decanter has really caught on, and people are realizing that you should store your water in glass.
It's healthier.
It tastes better.
You don't get the residual taste like drinking from a garden hose.
A lot of plastic bottles create that same taste and people can taste it.
Storing your water in glass is better for you.
It's better for your environment.
It's more economical, more convenient.
It just makes sense.
I noticed this glass is the size that will fit in your car.
Contentionally.
And the carriers, you know, this glass decanter, the bottom of it's made where it'll fit right into your cup holder in your car.
You know, there are standard bottle carriers that you can pick up that this will fit into.
And bottle your own, you know, bottle your own, take it with you to work, take it to the gym, and it's, like I say, you're spending one-tenth the price that you would on bottled water, and you're getting far superior quality, and you're not contributing to that negative impact of plastic bottles going into the environment.
Well, that's what I'm going to do.
I'm going to use this and take it to the gym, because at gym, it's all...
It's all plastic.
Everybody's drinking toxic chemicals while they're working out.
It just doesn't seem right.
It's changing.
The media has really pounced on this issue.
Everybody's seen articles over the last year about bottled water was banned in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Chicago put a tax on it because of the low quality and the high cost of the environment.
It does not offer better quality consumers.
It costs a big price to the environment by not only disposing of those plastic bottles, but the petroleum products used to produce them, transport them, and for what?
You can produce better quality water in your own home with a water filtration system that costs under $100.
It just really is the solution.
So folks, if you want to do something for your health and for the environment, you can do that.
Start filtering your own water.
Create your own bottled water at home with the Aquasana sun water system.
You can learn more about Aquasana at their corporate website if you'd like.
That's aquasana.com, A-Q-U-A-S-A-N-A. People often aren't aware too of the amount of CO2 that's emitted during the manufacturing of a plastic bottle.
So if you're drinking out of plastic bottles, you're not only creating landfill and having health problems, you're also contributing to climate change potentially.
Sure, not only that.
I mean, it's been proven and reported recently that it takes three times as much water to produce that plastic bottle as it does to fill it.
So there's a lot of things that people aren't considering.
The petroleum products that are used, you know, some of this water is coming from around the world.
They're transporting water from the other side of the world in plastic bottles.
That's just ridiculous.
Sure.
Then it's being transported around these states in the back of semi-trailers.
Other than the cost of producing the plastic, the environmental cost, then transporting it and the greenhouse gases that are being emitted, and then we have to dispose of it.
It's only been around for 140 years.
It's all still here.
We don't really know how long it takes to decompose because every bit of it that's ever been produced is still here.
So, you know, ultimately if we keep at the same rate of increased production of plastic that we're at now, at some point we suffocate our planet in a layer of plastic.
So what kind of feedback do you hear frequently from customers who start using the Aquasana filter in their shower or in their kitchen?
Well, both.
I mean, the shower filter, you know, immediately people notice a difference and they're amazed at it because, you know, you get used to that chlorine in your water and the way it makes your skin and hair feel.
And then when you take it out of there and realize how much softer your skin is, your hair is, the difference in breathing, you know, chlorine in shower water has been linked to asthma, childhood asthma, all sorts of breathing problems.
It's so much healthier, so much better cosmetically as well.
You notice it instantly.
Drinking water, People are amazed that with a relatively inexpensive system that you can produce chemical-free, great tasting water in your own house for less than 10 cents a gallon.
Once they realize that, then they're kind of amazed that they ever believed in the whole bottled water thing.
It just isn't the way to go.
Absolutely.
I think it's changing the lives of families all across America, around the world actually.
We have customers from many different countries buying this product.
I've seen their comments on my website.
Sure.
Around the world.
Absolutely.
In fact, when I was first talking about water filtration systems a couple of years ago, my readers kept saying, you should write a story about Aquasana.
Find them, write about them.
That's what we're doing today.
You've been listening to an exclusive interview with Charles Strand, the founder and president of Aquasana.
Do you have any final thoughts before we wrap this up?
You know, just do your research, bottle your own, and make sure that if you're going to use a home water filtration system, that you check into the company, make sure it's certified, make sure their performance claims are certified by NSF or Underwriters Laboratories, California Department of Health Services.
All three offer certifications for water filtration.
And, you know, make the right choice.
Sounds good.
Well, thanks for joining us today, Charles.
It's been a real pleasure.
