Hello and welcome.
I am Carrie Tepedino of CarrieTepedino.com.
I'm here with Mike Adams, the health ranger of NaturalNews.com and CWCLabs.com.
And Mike, thanks so much for being here today.
Thank you, Carrie.
It's always great to join you.
Yeah, I'm really excited.
I'm glad that we're going to do a series of these small videos, these short videos, and just putting great information, great content out there to help as many people as possible.
And we chose the theme for today of inflammation and weight loss.
And I would love to hear your take because I know that you've done a lot of research around food and nutrition and food as medicine and how that's affecting the body and I'm a natural weight loss expert myself and so I think this conversation can be really powerful for people so they start to understand what they're eating is affecting their inflammation and their inflammation is affecting their weight.
Can you dive in?
Well, I think the key here is what is the source of your information about weight loss.
Most of the conventional status quo sources that people are hearing, television advertising, pharmaceutical drugs, medications for weight loss, bariatric surgery, these messages, in my opinion, are very unhealthy and ineffective and not the way to successfully lose weight while maintaining your health.
So it's all about changing the source of your information.
You and your website, you're a great source for good information on realistic, long-term, sustainable weight loss.
So is my website, Natural News.
You and I both have gone through body transformations quite dramatic.
You know, I used to be borderline diabetic, borderline obese.
You've gone through a healing transformation as well.
So I think we help serve as examples to people that it is very, not just possible, but it is inevitable that if you change your food choice, then your results are different.
And your results, you can be healthy and fit and have a healthy body weight without going through drugs and surgery.
That's the key message.
Right, wonderful.
And what I've noticed is, like for myself, with the eating disorder, the body image disorder, being overweight, and then changing what I was eating, of course there's a lot of mental and emotional work that happened along with that as well.
But changing what I was eating personally from, you know, moving away from High sugars or foods that turned into sugars or packaged, jarred, processed foods and moving to whole foods had a dramatic effect on my body.
Absolutely.
What happened for you during all of that?
Well, a very similar thing.
But it was a gradual but dramatic effect over the long term.
And it's important in this process not to be tricked by the marketing gimmicks of the food companies.
They like to say sugar-free a lot or fat-free.
Well, the fat-free foods are loaded with sugar and the sugar-free foods are loaded with chemicals.
The artificial chemical sweeteners.
I do not, and I have not for over 15 years, I do not eat any food labeled fat-free or sugar-free.
Period.
Get that completely out of your diet.
What you want is real food.
If you have broccoli or apples or celery or oranges, they're not labeled sugar-free.
But those are the things you need to be eating, right?
Right.
You know, it was so interesting because it's easy for us to assume most people understand fat-free or sugar-free doesn't make sense.
But there's still a lot of misconception out there.
I was at the grocery store just last night and I ran into a girlfriend of mine and she said something like, oh yeah, she's getting guacamole and she said something like, oh, it's probably not the best thing for me to eat.
And I was like, what are you talking about?
And she's like, yeah.
And so for me, I'm kind of shocked because I thought most people understand how fat is good for you.
And I said to her, you know you can't lose fat without eating fat, right?
And she's like, really?
Yeah, so many of these medical mythologies that were pushed on us in the 1990s in particular have turned out to be complete bunk.
One of them was the fat-free diet.
Another was the anti-cholesterol diet.
They had everybody afraid of eating eggs.
Right.
Your body needs cholesterol.
If you don't have cholesterol, you can't manufacture sex hormones, for one thing.
Just to regulate your body as a man or a woman, you can't regulate it without cholesterol.
It's a biological fact.
So you need some dietary sources of cholesterol.
Whole eggs are actually very healthy.
In fact, they also contain sulfur, which contributes to your body's detoxification process.
Without sulfur, you can't eliminate a lot of toxins in your body.
So I always recommend people, you know, have a whole egg a day.
And I actually raise chickens, so I have fresh farm eggs.
So I'll eat those eggs raw.
I blend them into a smoothie raw.
I don't recommend that from commercial eggs because of the risk of contamination.
But if you're lucky enough to have your own chickens, eat a raw egg every day.
It's miraculous.
Wow.
You know, that's a great point because, you know, a lot of people used to eat raw eggs and then there's this whole scare around, you know, getting very sick and salmonella and whatever else you can get from raw eggs.
And I remember my dad growing up, my dad always had raw eggs.
He had one every morning.
And I'm glad you're debunking that or I'm glad you're clarifying when you should eat raw eggs and not.
That's right, because I don't trust commercial egg operations.
I don't trust commercial CAFOs, the confined animal food factories.
I don't buy beef or chicken or meats from those kinds of operations.
But I'm not a vegetarian anymore.
I used to be.
But I only purchase meats, very small quantities in my diet, from local ranchers or food co-ops or farmers that I know and trust.
This is key to the philosophy.
You've got to get away from the factories of food and start checking in and checking out real food, farmers markets, co-ops, CSAs, growing food yourself.
This is all part of the weight loss philosophy that works.
Remember, the philosophy of the quick pill, the diet pills, the drugs, the surgery, those are shortcuts.
Those are shortcuts that, in my opinion, will harm you, not help you.
You want to do it right, get in touch with real food.
Right, I think that's great.
What happens, I know what I've personally experienced and also what happens with a lot of my clients is when we or when they switch to whole foods, you can feel a difference in your body.
We want to discuss inflammation today and even joint pain.
It starts to diminish.
Or bloating and gas, digestive issues often go to the wayside.
And all of these things, people don't understand like, wow, what I'm eating is actually affecting the inflammation in my body.
What are your thoughts on all of that?
Well, sure.
The processed food diet is a highly inflammatory diet.
It's lacking the minerals to be a full-spectrum food, and then it contains higher amounts of these sort of agitating ingredients like refined sugars, for example.
Turmeric is an amazing spice, a root, a superfood that is just so effective.
For inflammation, and you know, it has anti-cancer properties as well.
In addition to blending in an egg in my smoothie, I blend in about a teaspoon of turmeric powder every day.
And I've been doing that for a while now, I guess a year or so.
If you look at the diet of people in India, they eat turmeric every single day.
If you look at diets of the Japanese, they eat seaweed and iodine every single day.
These things, the bitters of turmeric, the roots, and the seaweeds are missing from the diets of most Americans.
And it's not a coincidence that a lot of Americans suffer much higher rates of breast cancer, much higher rates of inflammation, and then they try to treat those things with toxic drugs that just mask the symptoms.
Your problem is not that you lack a prescription.
Your problem is that you're eating foods that are causing inflammation and you should replace them with foods that prevent inflammation.
It's that simple.
Right.
That's a great point.
And a really great recipe, I don't know if you know this one, but it's Indian.
It's Ayurvedic.
So Ayurveda is very ancient from the Vedic text.
And it's turmeric milk, and so you just take like an almond milk or a nut milk, heated, right?
And then you have a little bit of raw honey and turmeric in it, and it's a great nighttime drink.
It's very soothing, very calming, great for the inflammation.
You'll feel great in the morning.
Well, let's do this, because I know we're doing these short clips, and so let's give an action item at the end of each of these short clips.
Should we do the turmeric?
Adding turmeric to the diet is a great action item, very easy.
Yeah, absolutely.
You can buy turmeric at most grocery stores these days, or many of them, and you can blend it into a smoothie, just a short piece of the root.
Mm-hmm.
I would also challenge those there who are into gardening to grow your own turmeric.
I've been doing that.
I love it.
The plants, they grow very quickly.
And when you grow it, then you have control over the quality.
You don't have the risk of contamination.
You don't have the lead that's found in many overseas turmeric products.
And you don't have the E. coli risk because you're not near a farm, like cattle ranch, let's say.
So I would say, yeah, add turmeric to your diet and grow it if you can.
It's very rewarding.
Awesome.
Okay, everybody.
