Preppers, survivalists and Hurricane Sandy: A mini-documentary by Mike Adams

Time Text
Superstorm Sandy struck the northeastern United States with hurricane force winds.
Combined with two additional storm fronts, the result was a Frankenstorm of unparalleled magnitude that drenched the region with rain and pummeled it with wind.
The storm surge flooded thousands of homes with seawater, and New York City saw its subway system inundated and taken out of service.
The power grid failed, leaving over 10 million people without electricity.
And that set off a wave of criminal looting as opportunists took advantage of the situation to steal from businesses and homes.
In the aftermath, frightened residents turned to baseball bats, machetes, and even bows to try to defend themselves against the risks of violence and looting.
Police forces were stretched beyond breaking.
The National Guard was slow to deploy and FEMA ran out of emergency water, showing up with cookies instead.
Amid all this, fuel also ran out because gas stations couldn't pump gas without electricity.
This drove many residents to desperation, as getting fuel required standing in line for hours at the few gas stations still able to deliver.
Fist fights broke out.
Weapons were brandished.
New York eventually had to send state troopers to stand watch at gas stations.
Superstorm Sandy, it turns out, was the most devastating storm to hit the region in at least a century.
And it turned a modern-day city into the equivalent of a third-world infrastructure in mere hours.
As you ponder these facts, consider this.
For the last decade or more, the mainstream media has ridiculed preppers as kooks, conspiracy theorists, and wingnuts.
Anyone who stockpiled food, water and emergency supplies was not only considered alarmist and even imbalanced, the US federal government actually began to describe them as terrorists.
Police and National Guard troops were literally taught that anyone engaged in prepping was automatically a threat to public safety and should be treated as a danger.
The term stockpiling was used in a derogatory manner.
News reports were awash with arrests of people who had stockpiled food, ammunition or other supplies as if to imply that storing extra supplies was inherently bad or dangerous.
Sure, the government itself had stockpiled masses of weapons, medical supplies, and doomsday gear.
But when the citizens stockpiled, they were called paranoid kooks.
There's no risk of the power grid failing, we were told.
And even if it does, FEMA will save us all.
Superstorm Sandy has now shattered that grand delusion.
What emerged from Sandy shocked the psyche of the American people.
Here are 10 mind-blowing realizations from the aftermath.
1.
FEMA won't have enough supplies to save you.
It ran out of bottled water just days after the storm, and it failed to show up at all in many hard-hit areas.
Number two, the police can't save you from anything.
In the first 48 hours after the storm, police were nowhere to be seen.
Spread too thin by budget cuts, peace officers simply don't exist in sufficient numbers to help in any large-scale crisis.
Number three, the power grid is fragile and can fail at any time.
Number four, when the power grid fails, fuel supplies stop flowing.
Number five, looters will take advantage of any crisis to steal from businesses and private homes.
Number six, grocery stores will be wiped out either before or immediately after any sufficiently large crisis, meaning there won't be food available for days or weeks.
Number seven, the majority of people fail to prepare and therefore panic out of desperation.
Number eight, in many cities and states, firearms are illegal for residents to own, placing those people in a position where they are unable to defend themselves against violence and looting.
Number nine, political leaders will exploit disaster victims for a boost in the polls, then abandon them when real help is needed.
Number ten, high-density population areas are death traps in any crisis, but especially if the power grid goes down.
Importantly, people who prepared in advance of the storm did not suffer.
They had food, they had fuel, they had stored water and water filters.
They had emergency medicine and the capability of self-defense.
So instead of becoming a desperate victim of the storm and adding to the rescue burden, they were able to sit at home, ride out the storm, and live on supplies they had stockpiled ahead of time.
Even while being called kooks by the liberal media which has an irrational hate bias against individual preparedness.
These people, the preppers, are the kind of people we should want to see in society.
They help reduce the desperation in any crisis.
They reduce the burden on FEMA and government supplies.
They often help keep the peace and even help their neighbors out with food and water.
Preppers, also sometimes called survivalists, are upstanding, solution-oriented citizens who have been viciously maligned by the media and the federal government.
And yet these are the very people who are the strongest, most adaptable pillars of any community's defense against disaster.
Preppers are the new prophets, it seems.
They knew disaster was coming sooner or later, and they intelligently prepared in advance to save lives and keep their local communities strong.
The liberal media and the U.S. government owe Preppers a massive apology in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
Far from being conspiracy theorists and kooks, Preppers are in fact the most intelligent, well-informed, and forward-thinking individuals in every community.
They are the ones who had the foresight to plan ahead when the federal government didn't.
And as a result, they were able to help their neighbors stay strong during a crisis while the US government was AWOL. Preppers are genuine patriots.
They are the heroes of America.
And they are the ones who will be left standing when the next great disaster strikes.
Superstorm Sandy was a small taste of what's yet to come for disasters in America.
Four nationwide disasters now potentially threaten our country.
Number one, a global debt collapse followed by nationwide riots and social unrest.
Number two, a national power grid failure caused by a solar flare or high-altitude EMP attack.
Number three, thermonuclear war with a nation like China or Russia.
And number four, a full-blown nuclear meltdown or even the collapse and explosion of the remaining Fukushima fuel pools.
In each of these scenarios, America would see unprecedented chaos and fatalities.
Preppers and survivalists are most likely to survive while the mainstream zombie population that fails to prepare is likely to die.
They say no nation is more than three meals away from a revolution, and there's an element of truth to that.
Take away the power grid, the fuel infrastructure, food supplies, water supplies, and peace officer protection, and America reverts to the 1800s.
Cities would become death traps, and mass starvation and violent crime would become the norm.
Many people believe that precisely such a scenario is about to unfold in America, and yet almost no one prepares for it.
Even in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the idea of preparing is simply too inconvenient for most people, so they put it off until it's too late.
