But I want to play this clip because it is essentially what the writer, Gabriel Sherman, says is where Trump learnt what we now know as Trumpism.
That's right.

Who's rules?
The first rule is attack, attack, attack.

Maybe, maybe the country.

Rule two, admit nothing, deny everything.

And you can take that as a straight line from there to January 6th.
Yeah, you know, basically it's about like if, you know, the reality works for you, manipulate it.
If it doesn't work for you, just manufacture the reality you need.
Gabriel Sherman, who wrote the screenplay, basically said of course that he had heard Roger Stone, a very close Trump ally, back in the 2016 campaign say that Trump was winning because he was implementing The lessons Roy Cohn taught him.
These three lessons.
Right.
And, you know, obviously we, for dramatic reasons, we try to simplify that, you know, and, you know, Mr.
Trump, he's like a sponge-like character and sort of an ideology or way of looking at the world, which basically comes down to If you win, whatever you win, however you win, you won.
And then you can sort of worry about the principles and worry about the aftermath, worry about the narrative afterwards.
And, you know, it's been very successful in that.
And even if you lose, you win because you say that you won.
That's right, because, you know, the winning happens sort of in the world of media.
And the winning happens on a newspaper page.
And if you win there, then the reality would somehow fallow, you know?
Is this a political film?
It is a political film because we're investigating power structures, we're investigating the levers of power, but it's not a party political film.
I don't have a horse in this game.
I don't care if Democrats win or Republicans win.
And that's sort of the point of the movie, that there's another structure here which doesn't adhere to this sort of binary The movie is very clear.
It takes no partisan politics.
And also you remind everybody that actually during a lot of the time when it was set, certainly in the 80s, Donald Trump was a darling in Manhattan.
He was on all the media shows.
It's a very...
You're showing a different time of his life.
That's right.
You even say the guy had a sense of humor.
He could be charming.
He still has a sense of humor.
I think what we try to do here is to capture his humanity, to see him as a complex human being he is, and also Roy Cohn and also Ivana, you know, and that's where I think for me it's worthy.
It's a humanist project and that is the politics of the movie in a way.
So, as you know, a lot of Republicans have trashed it.
We're going to get to Trump trashing it in a moment.
And some liked it, too.
And some may have liked it, too.
But a lot of liberals just think you're not being clear-eyed enough about Trump.
So it's kind of a minefield.
Yeah, I mean, we've been sort of in the middle of, oh, you're too soft on him, oh, you're too harsh on him, oh, you're bashing him, oh, you're praising him.
And in a way, I'm thinking, you know, if you have, you know, Roger Stone, you know, liking it, Mr.
Trump hating it, Breitbart liking it, someone MSNBC liking and hating it, you know, all these different actors, if we're agitating all sides, then we're doing something right.
That's one way of putting it.
Let's get to the media and political aspect of it because this film premiered at Cannes.
It got a lot of buzz and immediately Trump's people and Trump started to attack it.
There was a cease and desist letter from the producer, the person who had actually put down the money for this film.
So it's definitely a controversial movie, a movie about a period of time, probably.
I mean, you know better than me.
I was in New York in 1982 and definitely had a small and brief experience of the city.
No, I just want to say that I never met Donald Trump.
I don't know Donald Trump.
The first time that I heard about Donald Trump is when I was living in New York in the 80s.
I was a teenager and they had him essentially on the Oprah show and we already know about Oprah.
We already know about all that.
But during that time, I didn't know what a PSYOP was.
I didn't know.
Even back then, they might have been doing a PSYOP on him.
Because all of us had the wrong idea about Donald Trump.
So, then, when you came to me in 2016, and you said that you supported Donald Trump, I said...
2015.
Okay, 2015, even before...
I was like, why are you supporting Donald Trump?
Because all I knew from Donald Trump was what I knew from...
I'm a New Yorker.
And so I knew what I knew in the 80s from New York.
But then, you know, it took a very short time for me to realize...

That he was a businessman and that's what we needed for America?

I mean, so despite what you feel about maybe his personality or some like preconceived idea about Donald Trump and what you think he did with the vaccines or anything else, you need to put that aside and take your love for America.
And remember that if we do not vote for Donald Trump, we are going down.
I mean, it's just from that point on, it will be everything all holds barred.
We won't have any more freedom anymore.
And it's just about this.
They're saying the opposite.
But the real truth is that if we do not vote for Donald Trump, and I don't care how you feel about him, We are going to die.
And that's it.
As a nation, America won't exist anymore.
We'll be living in a Liptard prison, just like I lived in Italy.
And wow, I would rather be dead than live like that.
So I'd rather go join my dog in heaven and live in an earth like that.

One of the lines that I've heard about your husband, Gwen, is, Tampon Tim.
And I know that the MAGA cult thinks that that's some sort of dig on your husband, but when I went and did my own research to find out why are they calling him Tampon Tim, I actually found that he likely wears that as a badge of honor.
Gwen, tell us what that's all about.
Well, you know, first of all, we are good neighbors, right?
And nice people.
And so the inclination of the other campaign or the right to name call is just not something that I really approve of in the first place.
But if they're going to continue to do it, You know, I think that we have to just define what it is that's remarkable, that's been done in Minnesota and that Tim's advocated for.
We have had a real agenda about making sure that we are responding to the needs of Minnesotans.
So, you know, the Free school lunch and breakfast, that was part of our agenda.
And we said, what else do we need in schools?
And as we listened, people were having trouble accessing feminine products.
And so, Tim made those available in schools.
I think that makes sense.
I'm focused on learning.
So is Tim.
So is our legislature.
And so we said, you know, if this is something that distracts from learning, well, then we're going to take care of that.
Why wouldn't we?
Because we're interested in students learning and not being distracted by other things.
And I think you know Tim a little bit, too.
So I'm proud of our agenda in Minnesota.
And I guess we'll just move on from that name, right?
