Liberty Hangout - Kaitlin Bennett - Psychology Student Says Men Can Be Women Aired: 2024-12-07 Duration: 04:54 === What Defines a Woman? (04:36) === [00:00:00] What is a woman? [00:00:01] I think anybody honestly a woman is just somebody who, you know, thinks they're a woman. [00:00:09] I mean, gender is just defined by society. [00:00:12] Does someone with a penis, is that a woman? [00:00:14] Hey, I mean, I'd say if they're not actively using it, sure. [00:00:18] Like, if you want to call yourself a woman, more power to you. [00:00:24] Have you heard about Harry Potter? [00:00:26] Yeah. [00:00:26] What they're doing with Harry Potter, the new TV show? [00:00:28] Oh, okay, so you haven't heard of, I'm a I'm a fan, but I've been distancing myself from it. [00:00:37] You know. [00:00:38] Why? [00:00:39] I don't agree with J.K. Rowling's view on, you know, trans people, but so. [00:00:46] But I'm fine with other people supporting it, you know, more power to them. [00:00:49] I don't know. [00:00:49] What is her view? [00:00:51] I honestly have no clue. [00:00:53] Doesn't really like Omar think it's I'm pretty sure she thinks it's a mental illness, which I don't. [00:01:00] So I'm a psychology student. [00:01:02] So psychology student. [00:01:03] Yeah. [00:01:04] Okay. [00:01:05] Well, from your perspective, because you're in psychology, that's pretty important. [00:01:09] If you could tell her or correct her with something, what would you say? [00:01:12] I would say, you know, the science is changing on it all the time. [00:01:15] You know, do your own research on it, you know, read papers on it and that kind of stuff. [00:01:21] You know, don't just assume, you know, people. [00:01:24] Just go out and talk to people, you know, that actually, you know, are trans and stuff like that. [00:01:29] What has she said about them? [00:01:31] That, you know, it's not going to matter what you think. [00:01:34] If you're born a man, you're born a man. [00:01:36] If you're born a woman, you're born a woman. [00:01:38] I personally don't care what. [00:01:39] And you think a man could be a woman? [00:01:41] I think whatever is in somebody's pants, that's their business, not mine, honestly. [00:01:46] So I don't care. [00:01:47] is a woman. [00:01:48] I think anybody... [00:01:56] I mean, gender is just defined by society. [00:02:00] Like, sex, yes, that is biological. [00:02:02] But gender, that's just a social construct. [00:02:05] Okay. [00:02:05] So if someone said, I'm a woman, like, what does that mean, though? [00:02:09] Whatever it means to them, honestly. [00:02:11] Like, some people would say, I shouldn't be considered a woman because I don't want to have children, you know? [00:02:18] Well, your desire to have children or not, that doesn't define if you're a woman. [00:02:22] Would you say that your ability to have children or not would. [00:02:26] So like having the organs. [00:02:28] Is biologically woman. [00:02:29] She can't have children. [00:02:31] But she does have the organs that would make that. [00:02:34] I think that's what they're arguing, right? [00:02:36] Like, my grandmother had a hysterectomy. [00:02:39] Does she no longer become a woman because she no longer has the organs? [00:02:44] I don't know. [00:02:45] You know, that's a good question. [00:02:46] But does someone with a penis, is that a woman? [00:02:49] Hey, I mean, I'd say if they're not actively using it, sure. [00:02:52] Like, if you want to call yourself a woman, more power to you. [00:02:55] I don't care. [00:02:56] So what, like, what standards do you place to be like, okay, you say you're a woman, that means you are XYZ. [00:03:03] Or if you're like, are you a woman? [00:03:05] What would you expect that person to say? [00:03:07] Like, what standards are there to be a woman? [00:03:10] I don't have a standard for it. [00:03:12] If somebody introduces themselves to me and they want to be a woman and they want to go by she or her pronouns, more power to them. [00:03:18] It's none of my business. [00:03:20] Okay, what do you think about the people who might be offended by that saying like, no, men don't give birth, women do. [00:03:26] That's offensive towards us as women. [00:03:28] We don't want men in our spaces, especially bathrooms or locker rooms. [00:03:32] We think that that's important to, you know, define women's rights and have a special place for women. [00:03:37] Hey, it's America. [00:03:39] You're allowed to have that opinion. [00:03:40] As long as you don't impose on other people, like I said, more power to you. [00:03:44] Okay. [00:03:45] You know, just don't be a dick to other people about it. [00:03:47] No pun intended. [00:03:50] You think that's the only thing that makes a woman a woman is what's in her pants? [00:03:53] No, like I said earlier, that it's a sociology construct, you know. [00:03:58] Society determines what it is or isn't. [00:04:02] I mean, if you look at countries overseas, you know, India has a whole section of genders. [00:04:10] Like, they're gods. [00:04:12] There's over a hundred of them. [00:04:13] Not the gods, but, you know, the genders that they can be. [00:04:16] Yeah. [00:04:17] So, I don't know. [00:04:19] Like, biology-wise, maybe, maybe not. === Support My Work (00:33) === [00:04:22] But as far as gender itself, it's purely sociological. [00:04:27] Thank you so much.
