Do you think that should be the approach that teachers go to in the classroom that that that's a learning environment, not anything to do with politics or the president?
Well, we have to teach civics, we have to teach government.
It's gonna come up.
They but do we have to teach that the person in the white house hates you or doesn't hate you?
They already know it.
It that's not something I'm teaching.
That's something that I need to keep them safe from.
Okay, so you just got out of the second night of the Democratic debates.
Who's your favorite so far?
Kamala Harris.
What do you like so much about her?
Um I think that she is gonna make my students go crazy.
I teach, and like she's the candidate that I want to be able to talk to my students about.
It's been a hard couple of years teaching the students that I teach with who is in our current office.
And what ways?
What do you hope to come back and give to them when you get back to the classroom?
The feeling that the person that is in charge that they see on TV all the time cares about them and doesn't hate them or their parents.
Do you let them know that in the classroom that you're elementary skids elementary kids, so I need them to feel safe.
So we just don't talk about a lot of things right now.
Do you think that should be the approach that teachers go to in the classroom that that that's a learning environment, not anything to do with politics or the president?
Well, we have to teach civics, we have to teach government.
It's gonna come up.
They start to but do we have to teach that the person in the white house hates you or doesn't hate you?
They already know it.
It that's not something I'm teaching.
That's something that I need to keep them safe from.
Like you can see it in their body language and in their facial expressions.
There's a clear difference.
I was teaching under Obama's presidency and I was I'm teaching now, and like you can see, kids know.
Kids know right when they first meet you if you're somebody that they can trust or if you're somebody scary.
And they can see that watching Donald Trump.
Absolutely.
Do you watch clips from him in your classroom at all?
Um, I try not to because I can't trust, like, I mean, I used to invite all sorts of different politicians in to read books to kids and stuff, but you it's not the same anymore.
You can't trust that if you bring in all sorts of different politicians now that they're going to be able to make your kids feel safe and that they're going to act like a responsible adult.
So Donald Trump would not be invited to your classroom.
He violates our school code of conduct.
How's he do that?
Well, with the language that he uses.
I mean the things that he says.
Kamala Harris would be invited.
Oh, absolutely.
Like you can see the way that she talks to kids that they feel safe around her.
Perfect.
Alright, well, good luck back in your classroom.
Enjoy your uh the rest of the beginning of your school year, and it's the beginning, isn't it?
