Louder with Crowder - The Science of Sketch Comedy: Election 2024 Docuseries Part 2 | Louder With Crowder Aired: 2024-10-31 Duration: 11:39 === A Lot More Than Meets The Eye (09:58) === [00:00:02] Okay, and action. [00:00:05] My name is Crowder, commander of Letterwood Crowder, leader. [00:00:09] So sketches, a lot more goes into them than it might seem. [00:00:13] It's way more involved than I thought it would be. [00:00:17] It starts off with the writers. [00:00:18] I do write sketches that screw with people personally, like Gerald. [00:00:25] Wardrobe, props. [00:00:26] I mean, I freaked out when I got here and I saw the production level. [00:00:29] I mean, just the wardrobe. [00:00:31] I've done shows at NBC and ABC. They don't have that much wardrobe. [00:00:35] Visual effects. [00:00:36] I didn't realize what everyone here was capable of. [00:00:38] And so I was writing things, like, oh, we can't do that. [00:00:41] Can't do that. [00:00:42] And then Johnny Boyd would be like, why not? [00:00:43] I'm like, oh, because, well, I mean, it's got these multiple shots and it's part of a movie. [00:00:47] It's a parody and we got to bring this. [00:00:49] And he's like, that's not for us to figure out. [00:00:53] Okay, we'll see if that gets made, and then sure enough, it's amazing. [00:00:56] I'm like, what? [00:00:58] There's so much that goes into a 20, 30 second clip on here. [00:01:02] Wow. [00:01:05] At it! [00:01:05] It's your friend Colonel Slanders again! [00:01:08] We've done so many good things here. [00:01:09] What was the one when he was my psychiatrist? [00:01:11] Sinead O'Connor, who I couldn't help but picture in the back of my mind as the many that Nick DePaulo saw in my Rorschach test. [00:01:21] I'm sorry. [00:01:21] You see again in two months? [00:01:27] I like the bad monies a lot. [00:01:28] That's fun because I get to be a little wild. [00:01:35] Take a lot of hits. [00:01:43] I do take a lot of hits. [00:01:44] I do a lot of falls. [00:01:45] I think physical comedy is funny. [00:01:47] Billy the Magician is probably my favorite in recent years. [00:01:50] I love getting to watch Josh get smashed over the head with a bottle and that magician's sleazy laugh. [00:01:59] And the best part is we've got to order those bottles. [00:02:03] We have a lot of stuff we do for each of those. [00:02:04] So every time we do that bid, it's about a $30 bid at least. [00:02:08] Oh, the other thing is Crowder with his impressions. [00:02:11] I know we did a few boys. [00:02:12] Back in the day, someone like Kamala Harris would say, I did. [00:02:15] Sesame seed bun and french fries. [00:02:17] But now you have Donald Trump going like, oh, she loves french fries. [00:02:20] She can't get enough of them. [00:02:22] She just does the machine. [00:02:23] I guess french fries, onion rings, Popeyes! [00:02:27] I can't believe how talented he is. [00:02:30] And I'm not just kissing his ass, because it's way too hairy. [00:02:33] I'm November 5th. [00:02:34] Don't interrupt, Macho Man. [00:02:36] November 5th. [00:02:36] The choice is clear. [00:02:38] You want to have the Don or one of these crutches right there. [00:02:45] I could just toss anything at Steven, and he will just run with it with an impression. [00:02:51] CEOs financially armed to the teeth. [00:02:54] I'm doing a Brando thing, and they replaced me with Josh, who was doing a way better brand. [00:02:59] That was the best one yet. [00:03:02] I'm out of here. [00:03:04] You talking to me? [00:03:05] Oh, and I gotta say this. [00:03:06] The Nick Dipp, press secretary. [00:03:07] He also was the first guy to go see the midget. [00:03:10] Nick has no idea what he's getting himself into. [00:03:13] He just goes in there, they roll clips, and he rips. [00:03:16] And that's amazing to watch. [00:03:18] The view. [00:03:20] I love the view. [00:03:22] It's like a horse view. [00:03:23] We literally just find clips of people asking questions and then let Nick answer. [00:03:29] And it's so funny. [00:03:31] Don Lemon have to walk around in a gay nightclub and assless chaps still have a gun on his trip. [00:03:37] He does that one take. [00:03:39] The 20 questions, 20 answers, one take, and then he's out of there. [00:03:42] And I'm like, dude, what a pro. [00:03:45] I can't believe I get to do that. [00:03:47] Yeah, dead silence. [00:03:49] Just what I thought. [00:03:50] There's not another place in the industry where you could just change your role or say, hey, I want to try mixing the show today, or I want to run audio, or, you know, you get to contribute, you get to be on cam. [00:04:07] I never imagined writing for a show. [00:04:10] It was never really the goal for me to be a writer. [00:04:12] - I'm farted. [00:04:13] I laughed I'm farted. [00:04:16] - It's a dream I didn't know I had come true. - Three, two, and action. [00:04:23] There are a lot of times, especially when it comes to advertisements, that we're finding we're shooting for a new sponsor or something the day before it's going to run. [00:04:34] So we'll shoot it early in the afternoon and we'll end up turning a spot for the next morning. [00:04:39] Not the bees! [00:04:40] Not the bees! [00:04:43] Don't let the IRS take advantage of you. [00:04:46] When it comes to the sketches of the show, I don't think people understand how much work goes into producing. [00:04:53] I've learned a whole lot about what goes on behind the scenes over the last, really call it three, three and a half years. [00:05:01] Look at that, look, get it. [00:05:03] There's definitely... [00:05:04] Yes, we can sell that. [00:05:05] The lighting, the boom, the costumes, the makeup, you name it. [00:05:09] And it's one of those things where you watch everybody sort of do their part and when everyone does it right, it comes together and it's an awesome thing. [00:05:18] Everything from the keying, the compositing, the sound design. [00:05:21] Stream! [00:05:22] Street! Street! [00:05:24] These are things that typically teams of people would take months and months to achieve, and we do it in record time with a skeleton crew, and it's because they're all rock stars. [00:05:34] Make way for the emperor. [00:05:35] Make it close. [00:05:37] We're trying to do all of it. [00:05:38] We're trying to be factually accurate. [00:05:40] We're trying to be funny. [00:05:41] And then you're trying to make sure that you're presenting information that people can use. [00:05:45] And to do all of those things and on top of that... [00:05:50] Record a bunch of sketches. [00:05:51] Absolutely rounding. [00:05:53] I don't want any foot fetish people getting my feet. [00:05:55] It's just everybody's so different but mixes so well. [00:05:58] It's a lot of fun and you know we get to tease Gerald all the time. [00:06:02] And what a thick skin that guy's got. [00:06:05] You know what? [00:06:06] It's a great room. [00:06:07] First of all, Steven can slip into any character at will, no matter what we're talking about. [00:06:11] I kind of... [00:06:12] It's sort of touch and go with the Jews right now. [00:06:15] And Gerald is smart as hell. [00:06:17] There's always going to be an adult in the room. [00:06:19] She saved the Jews! [00:06:21] I can't figure him out. [00:06:22] I take pride in being able to read people. [00:06:25] I've known him for, what, a couple years now? [00:06:27] I have no idea. [00:06:28] He'll get mad at me if I make a joke. [00:06:30] He'll go, oh, like it's shocking. [00:06:31] And then he'll hit a Holocaust joke in there. [00:06:34] I can't figure him out. [00:06:37] Josh is a stand-up. [00:06:38] Josh is naturally funny and he can do characters. [00:06:41] And action. [00:06:42] Hey, I'm Colonel Slam. [00:06:44] And the guys that work the... [00:06:45] I don't want to forget about the guys that work the soundboard and all that other sh**. [00:06:48] Shasha, still not nearly as gay, but also gay. [00:06:52] Options are limited. [00:06:54] Noodles just jumped in there. [00:06:55] I was in a rhythm. [00:06:56] Sorry. [00:06:59] They were all like guys' guys. [00:07:02] And I think it makes for a good mix. [00:07:04] Like someone on an island who hasn't eaten in a while and your friend turns into a hot dog? [00:07:08] Yes. [00:07:11] Guys, do you have a white mic, please? [00:07:15] Comedy's probably one of the most important things that the world is desperately in need of right now. [00:07:21] Okay, it's for the greater good. [00:07:23] Bye! [00:07:26] For me, the best part of working here is the challenge. [00:07:29] You know, doing all that we do and the time that we have it. [00:07:32] I get to solve problems all day. [00:07:35] I get to do it with people that I adore. [00:07:41] It's more like a family here, which sounds so cheesy. [00:07:46] It's the worst thing to say. [00:07:48] Yeah, I live with these people. [00:07:50] They're my friends. [00:07:52] I think that secretly people do like me, although I am the only person on staff that Joe Lewis has bitten repeatedly. [00:08:02] I didn't even head or look in Joe Lewis's direction and this happened. [00:08:08] Scaredy. [00:08:09] When I'm on stage, I love it. [00:08:10] Doesn't matter where, whatever. [00:08:12] This is just nothing but fun. [00:08:13] It's great. [00:08:14] Doing something I love. [00:08:15] Doing something that matters. [00:08:16] Let my kids see something that they can do someday. [00:08:21] Something that's actually realistic. [00:08:22] I never had that growing up. [00:08:23] I never thought it was realistic to be an entertainer for a living. [00:08:26] I thought that was crazy. [00:08:28] I think that's important to see. [00:08:29] See your parents work hard and get what they want. [00:08:33] Rather than what I saw in my father. [00:08:36] Work hard and get what you get. [00:08:38] I don't think many people get that sort of opportunity. [00:08:42] I can't speak! [00:08:43] You look at people that hate their jobs and they go out there and they're just making ends to me. [00:08:48] I'm just blessed and lucky to be doing what I'm doing. [00:08:57] Cut! [00:09:00] Oh, what are you going to do right now? [00:09:01] Are you going? [00:09:04] Then we're gonna hang out in the Sesame Street set. [00:09:09] Can I ask you a personal question? [00:09:12] No. [00:09:13] Can you hear that, Billy? [00:09:15] George's a Greek. [00:09:16] I hate that nickname, by the way. [00:09:17] Yeah, anything you've written that even you think is too much, too dark for this show? [00:09:21] Oh, no. [00:09:22] I haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg. [00:09:25] I'm all for pushing boundaries. [00:09:26] I mean, I wrote a sketch about six months back when my grandmother was... ...shredded. [00:09:39] So... [00:09:40] I mean, it didn't air. [00:09:44] Can you do this? === Election Night Revelations (01:53) === [00:09:45] Can you interview me in front of Oscar the Grouch's house? [00:09:47] That'd be fantastic. [00:09:48] All right. [00:09:49] Seven and a half, bitch. [00:09:51] What? [00:09:52] So if I actually showed my daughter those sketches, she's ten. [00:09:54] Now she wants me to do a sketch with her where she gets to hit me with a glass bottle, so I'm not gonna do that. [00:10:02] Because I could kick her ass, dude. [00:10:03] She's like this high. [00:10:05] We get the f***ing f*** to the f***. [00:10:08] Can I say that? [00:10:09] I think I did. [00:10:10] I mean, I rack at least, probably, on a slow day a dozen HR violations. [00:10:16] Which one? [00:10:16] The f***ing left! [00:10:18] Yeah, nice clap! [00:10:20] Let's f*** it! [00:10:20] Probably loses day one. [00:10:22] What do you think that looks like? [00:10:24] Looks like me going to the gun store. [00:10:28] Do you think that a Democrat victory here trusts Pat for a female president? [00:10:34] He's a f***ing b***h on wheels. [00:10:36] Nick, how long have you not had the use of your plate? [00:10:42] I told them you weren't going to ask about that. [00:10:49] You good? [00:10:50] All right, kids. [00:10:51] Anything else you want to add? [00:10:52] I do. [00:10:52] I'd like not to do the show anymore. [00:10:55] Gerald's really bugging me. [00:10:58] I hope it lasts. [00:11:00] That's all. [00:11:00] I need the cash. [00:11:02] All right. [00:11:03] So you and I decided to do something special on election night. [00:11:08] To be able to restore people's confidence in an election. [00:11:12] Accessing data and information and systems that no other company on the internet has really done before. [00:11:17] What we're doing is f***ing dangerous, man. [00:11:19] There's liability that comes with that, obviously. [00:11:20] I don't think other people want to take on that risk. [00:11:22] We're putting everything we got into this. [00:11:25] The important thing is to have an informed and enlightened audience. [00:11:27] You need accurate data. [00:11:29] There's red and there's blue, you see? [00:11:31] We're trying to make a difference in the way elections are reported. [00:11:34] I think this is going to be a historic moment. [00:11:36] This is sort of a watershed moment. [00:11:38] Do you think Trump's gonna win?
