Andrew Klavan Show - My Reaction To These Anime Might Shock You Aired: 2025-09-04 Duration: 14:07 === Anime Is the Devil's Work (06:12) === [00:00:00] All right, today we're going to look at some anime. [00:00:02] I don't know a lot about anime, but I'm just going to find out by looking at some anime. [00:00:06] I know that Matt Walsh says anime, all anime is satanic, says Walsh. [00:00:11] But right after he said that, a gigantic flaming red hand shot up out of the ground and dragged him down beneath the earth, I believe, for all eternity. [00:00:19] We can only hope. [00:00:20] But I've seen a little. [00:00:21] I've seen Howl's Moving Castle and the other film, I think, made by the same guy, and those were really quite good. [00:00:28] So it can't all be satanic. [00:00:29] This is brought to you by Express VPN, the VPN that I use to protect my data online. [00:00:35] You should use it too. [00:00:36] Go to expressvpn.com/slash Andrew Clavin Show. [00:00:40] All right, here's what we're going to look at. [00:00:42] I have a list. [00:00:43] This is K-pop demon hunters. [00:00:45] I'm hearing about it. [00:00:45] I'm actually going to watch this. [00:00:47] I'm going to watch K-pop Demon Hunters because I hear it's actually pretty funny. [00:00:50] This is about a K-pop girl group who balances their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters. [00:00:56] I mean, it's kind of a story that happens all the time. [00:00:59] This thing is just tearing up Netflix. [00:01:01] I think it's the most successful thing they've ever done. [00:01:04] Let's take a look at K-pop Demon Hunters. [00:01:06] Wait, wait, what is that? [00:01:32] My zigo, major brother. [00:01:34] Sane da chi ama. [00:01:36] Got a feeling that oh yeah, you could be everything that I need. [00:01:40] Jason, sweet. [00:01:41] And it makes me want more, yeah. [00:01:43] Let your links down, cause you gotta like that. [00:01:45] Check up your one another bye, yeah. [00:01:47] No emotuna, one of the water. [00:01:52] When you're in my arms, I hold you so tight, so tight. [00:01:55] I can't let go, no not tonight I don't have time for now I'm gonna be there already Cause I need you to need me I'm empty, feeling so refreshing My little soda pop, you're all I can think of. [00:02:16] Every drop I drink of, you're my soda pop, my little soda pop. [00:02:22] Gay, but not so satanic. [00:02:24] Gay. [00:02:25] Yeah, gay. [00:02:26] I mean, I think, you know, I don't want to speak for the homosexual community here, but I thought that's the kind of thing you want to watch guys dancing around singing about soda pop. [00:02:37] Gay. [00:02:41] It's terrific. [00:02:42] But what makes that anime? [00:02:43] That didn't look like I always thought anime was like, you know, that thing. [00:02:47] What's the one where they capture monsters inside a ball? [00:02:50] Pokemon. [00:02:50] Pokemon, yeah, that's right. [00:02:52] Pokemon, which my grandson for a while loved. [00:02:54] My son, my God, my son used to love this when he was small. [00:02:57] I thought that that's what anime looked like. [00:02:59] That didn't look, that just looked like kind of no. [00:03:01] All right, see, Eli here is running the board. [00:03:03] He's shaking his head. [00:03:04] He knows this is a man who knows anime. [00:03:06] I'm not saying anything about his sexuality. [00:03:10] Gay, gay, gay, gay. [00:03:13] But, you know, but however, so that was anime gay, I think that we'll call that. [00:03:17] Let's take a look at another chainsaw man. [00:03:19] Now, that sounds like my kind of thing. [00:03:21] Following a betrayal, a young man left for dead is reborn as a powerful devil human. [00:03:26] You know, Matt Welsh has a point. [00:03:28] These are all about demons. [00:03:29] Anime is the work of the devil. [00:03:31] And he merges with his pet devil and is soon enlisted into an organization dedicated to hunting devils. [00:03:38] All right, let's take a look at Chainsaw Man. [00:04:41] So that's anime, right? [00:04:42] That's real, yeah, that's real anime. [00:04:43] All right, okay, it's guys with chainsaw arms who doesn't like watching guys with chainsaw arms try to kill each other. [00:04:49] That looked okay. [00:04:51] I have to say, you know, I wrote this J horror film, One Miss Call, which has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. [00:04:59] It didn't come out as well as I would have liked. [00:05:02] The script was excellent. [00:05:03] The script would have gotten 100%, but the movie didn't come out so well. [00:05:07] And one thing I noticed about Asian storytelling is it's very different from our storytelling. [00:05:11] Our storytelling is very tied up in the patterns of the Bible, and obviously Japanese storytelling is not. [00:05:17] And it frequently doesn't make any sense to us, which is why I had to rewrite the story just to make it hold together. [00:05:23] What anime I've watched, I've noticed frequently just looks kind of ridiculous to me. [00:05:28] You've got to be kidding! [00:05:29] This guy is making me sick! [00:05:32] All right, the next one is Ju Jujutsu, it says, but maybe it's Jiu-Jitsu Kaizen. [00:05:39] A boy swallows a cursed talisman, the finger of a demon, another demon. [00:05:44] Suspicious, Walsh may be right. [00:05:46] The fellow swallows a cursed talisman and becomes cursed himself. [00:05:49] He enters a shaman's school to be able to locate the demon's other body parts and thus exercise himself. [00:05:57] All right, let's watch a little bit of this Jujutsu Kaisen. [00:06:01] You're about to have an interview with the principal. [00:06:03] What's this? [00:06:04] So you're not the boss? [00:06:08] Any hierarchy other than strength is worthless. === Tech Shielding Freedom (02:27) === [00:06:12] I'm sorry about that. [00:06:14] Sometimes he just does that. [00:06:15] What an amusing body you have now. [00:06:18] I do a good favorite. [00:06:20] Once I make this punk's body my own, you'll be the first one I kill. [00:06:25] It's my honor to be targeted by Sukuna himself. [00:06:29] All right, so the talking face appearing through your cheek into your hand, as happens. [00:06:37] You know, that's just one of those things. [00:06:39] We've all had moments like that. [00:06:41] And that was really weird. [00:06:43] But, you know, I mean, it just seems to me ordinary horror, spooky stuff. [00:06:48] There is an attitude here, like I said, of this kind of Japanese storytelling attitude where crazy things happen and everybody just sort of looks at them like they're just normal that I don't think you see in Western culture, which is why we won the war. [00:07:05] All right, let's take a look. [00:07:07] What a terrible thing to say. [00:07:09] I'm sorry you had to hear that. [00:07:10] This video is brought to you by ExpressVPN. [00:07:13] It's ironic when you think about it that millions of military members have fought for our freedom, yet we're losing more privacy every day. [00:07:19] Our phones are listening. [00:07:21] Tech companies are tracking everything we do online, and it's all completely legal. [00:07:25] Fighting for freedom isn't just the military's job anymore. [00:07:28] We need to do our part as well. [00:07:30] That's why I use ExpressVPN. [00:07:32] It's basically like a shield for your internet activity. [00:07:35] Everything gets sent through encrypted servers so nobody can see what you're doing online. [00:07:40] Not your internet provider, not data brokers, not government agencies. [00:07:43] Here's what really impresses me. [00:07:45] Last year, ExpressVPN got over 400,000 requests for customer data from tech companies and government agencies. [00:07:53] And you know how many times they actually handed over data? [00:07:56] No times. [00:07:57] They literally can't share what they don't have thanks to their zero logs policy. [00:08:02] And the best part, it is stupidly easy to use, which fits my lifestyle excellently. [00:08:07] Just one click and you're protected. [00:08:09] Works on everything too. [00:08:10] Phones, computers, tablets, even your smart TV. [00:08:13] You can protect up to eight devices at once so your whole family gets that privacy back. [00:08:18] It makes you feel secure. [00:08:20] It makes you feel like you have peace of mind. [00:08:22] And like I said, it's easy-peasy. [00:08:24] If you want to fight for your freedom from home, ExpressVPN is one of the best tools you can have. [00:08:28] Find out how you can get four months free by scanning the QR code on screen, clicking the link in the description box below, or by going to expressvpn.com/slash Andrew Clavin show. === Protecting Your Privacy (05:26) === [00:08:40] Let's take a look at Trigun. [00:08:42] Vash the Stampede is the most infamous outlaw on the planet Gunsmoke. [00:08:46] Oh, that's the name of the planet. [00:08:48] With a 60 billion double dollar price on his head. [00:08:52] Okay, let's see it. [00:08:53] There's a hostage situation in there. [00:08:54] You want to die? [00:08:57] He's dancing around too much to even notice. [00:08:59] He can't hear a damn thing. [00:09:01] That brainless moron, he's gonna upset the criminals! [00:09:05] Huh? [00:09:11] There's something at him! [00:09:12] He's dodging the bullets! [00:09:13] Stop, James! [00:09:14] That freak doesn't even realize he's being shot at. [00:09:16] Looks like he's going inside. [00:09:19] Hey, you! [00:09:20] Stop it! [00:09:21] Get out of there! [00:09:25] Who are you supposed to be? [00:09:27] Are you suicidal or too stupid to know better? [00:09:32] Huh? [00:09:39] There is something really weird about these, right? [00:09:43] I mean, it's not just me, or maybe it is just me, but there's something really strange about them. [00:09:48] There's something about the reactions, all those big eyes and the kind of weird contorted faces. [00:09:54] I don't have no clue what's going on in these stories, but it just looks strange. [00:10:00] I can't believe that Matt Walsh was right about anything. [00:10:03] Anime is satanic. [00:10:04] But there is something just a little off about them. [00:10:06] You know, people are always asking me, do I like anime? [00:10:10] And I'm always saying I don't really know anime. [00:10:13] But this is not something I'm really drawn to. [00:10:16] I've seen some of these things. [00:10:17] There was one show on called something like Men and Robots or something like that on Netflix. [00:10:22] I found it difficult to watch. [00:10:24] They're strange. [00:10:24] They're just alien. [00:10:25] They're alien in a way. [00:10:26] I mean, that's not necessarily bad. [00:10:28] I mean, let's face it, they're not French. [00:10:29] It's nothing as bad as that. [00:10:31] But they are kind of alien. [00:10:32] All right, let's see another Western one: Cowboy Bebop, the futuristic misadventures and tragedies of an easygoing bounty hunter named Spike and his partners. [00:10:41] Interesting that so many of these things come from Western culture, really. [00:10:45] Their Western culture Japanized. [00:10:47] All right, let's watch Cowboy Bebop. [00:10:50] Asimov Solensen, he's our next target. [00:10:55] Listen, Jed. [00:10:57] This guy's a major player in the syndicate, operates all around the asteroids. [00:11:01] You said bell peppers and beef. [00:11:02] His name's Asimov Solensen. [00:11:04] Are you listening to me? [00:11:06] There's no beef in here. [00:11:08] So you wouldn't really call it Bell Peppers and Beef now, would you? [00:11:13] Yes, I would. [00:11:15] Well, it's not! [00:11:16] It is when you're broke, all right? [00:11:18] What happened to the million Woolong reward we got for that last guy? [00:11:22] The repair bill for that cruiser you wrecked, and the one from that shop you trashed, and the medical bill from the cop you injured. [00:11:30] Kill the doe! [00:11:32] Again, weird, strange, kind of just this weird foreign atmosphere in a story that could be a regular cowboy kind of story. [00:11:42] One more death note. [00:11:44] An intelligent high school student goes on a secret crusade to eliminate criminals from the world after discovering a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written into it. [00:11:53] All right, I like that. [00:11:55] Look around. [00:11:56] There are plenty of things this world could do without. [00:11:59] Immorality. [00:12:01] Sin. [00:12:03] Crime. [00:12:05] It's time for a change. [00:12:07] I have the power to make the world, to make people better. [00:12:11] And I'm not afraid to use it. [00:12:13] I'm not afraid to kill. [00:12:15] How and when it happens is entirely in my hands. [00:12:18] All I need is a name, a face, a pen, and this notebook. [00:12:24] No one can stop me. [00:12:27] I'm chasing someone without a name or face. [00:12:30] Someone who believes he's on a righteous path, ridding the world of criminals. [00:12:34] But his brand of justice is misaligned. [00:12:37] By acting as a god, he himself has become the criminal. [00:12:41] It's my duty. [00:12:42] No, my calling to find him and show him what justice truly means. [00:12:48] You hear me, but you'll never see me coming. [00:12:51] And when I find him, his capture will be the world's liberation. [00:12:55] I'll uncover Kier's being worried if it's the last thing I do. [00:13:00] I swear I am justice. [00:13:04] Kill me. [00:13:12] Okay, I like that one. [00:13:13] That was like... [00:13:14] That was like a ring of power one, right? [00:13:15] That's like, you know, you've got this incredible power and you want to use it for good, but the use of it is already corrupting. [00:13:21] So I like that one. [00:13:23] You know, there's nothing inherently bad about this. [00:13:25] I mean, I know it's just a form of art. [00:13:27] And so if you tell good stories and they're interesting, and, you know, I'm only half joking about Japanese storytelling. [00:13:35] I like it, actually. [00:13:37] I just think there is a disconnect sometimes in the way they think, we think the story has to make sense. [00:13:42] And there's a way in which they don't, they're following a different train of logic, which I find sometimes off-putting, but always interesting. [00:13:49] So I would watch some of this. [00:13:51] Yeah, I would definitely take a look at that death note. [00:13:53] And I'm going to look at this K-pop just because Demon Hunters, just because everybody says it's so popular. [00:13:59] So all right. [00:13:59] Well, I will say non-demonic, not inherently demonic. [00:14:03] If you're not demonic or you'd like to be demonic, like and subscribe.
