You need to get cops over to Ashford House on 159th Street quickly. [00:01:22] There was a group that just came in here and started everybody up. [00:01:26] They did what? [00:01:26] Please, quickly, and I think we might even need an ambulance. [00:01:29] What did they do? [00:01:29] What did they do? [00:01:30] They came in with a... [00:01:31] started beating the place up with chairs, and they're hitting everybody over the head. [00:01:35] Are they still there? [00:01:37] No, they ran out in the parking lot, but you need to get the police over here right now. [00:01:42] This is, uh, actual house restaurant. [00:01:44] There's people beating you up in our store right now. [00:01:46] I'm gonna need a paramedic. [00:01:48] What are they doing? [00:01:49] They're destroying my restaurant at the moment. [00:01:50] They're beating the shit out of each other. [00:01:52] I got guys bleeding everywhere. [00:01:55] We need about a half dozen ambulances up here. [00:01:58] This is Finley Park Police. [00:02:00] We have officers and ambulances on the way. [00:02:02] Can you tell me anything that happened? [00:02:05] Well... We were sitting in there and just made an order, and there was a group of fellows in there sitting at a table. [00:02:13] They weren't bothering anybody. [00:02:14] And all of a sudden, a whole bunch of people came in. [00:02:17] They were dressed in black, and they started picking up chairs, and they started hitting everybody over the head. [00:02:23] We got close to the chair. [00:02:25] Okay. Do you know which way they left? [00:02:27] They went in a red dodge neon. [00:02:31] They headed going east down 159th Street in a red Dodge Neon. [00:02:37] And it was a... [00:02:38] Witnesses said the attackers chanted political slogans in the parking lot before bursting into the restaurant, where they shouted, ARA stands for Anti-Racist Action. [00:02:51] The perps then began upending tables and smashing and throwing plates. [00:02:55] They injured ten diners, four of whom needed stitches, and three were hospitalized. [00:03:01] They did not limit their attack to the table of about 10 supposed racists. [00:03:05] Restaurant owner Mike Winston noted that, quote, The Chicago Sun-Times said the perps, === The Tinley Park Five (03:23) === [00:03:22] quote, Several dozen women having a bridal shower were horrified by the mob attack and a graduation party was ruined. [00:03:35] When the graduate's father picked up a chair to protect his family, an anti-racist hit him in the head with a baton. [00:03:41] Minutes after the attack, an off-duty police officer pulled over the Dodge Neon and arrested five of the perps. [00:03:47] Police found police-style batons and a knife in the car. [00:03:51] Alex Stuck, brothers Cody, Dylan, and Jason Sutherland And their cousin John Tucker were arrested and charged with felony mob action, aggravated battery, and criminal damage to property. [00:04:06] On January 4, 2013, the Five each pled guilty to three felony counts of armed violence. [00:04:12] Jason Sutherland was sentenced to six years in prison. [00:04:15] Cody and Dylan Sutherland got five years. [00:04:18] Alex Stuck and John Tucker received three and a half years. [00:04:22] These men supporters refer to them as the Tinley Park Five. [00:04:26] Seven months later, and over a year after the attack, police arrested Jason Hammond for his involvement in the assaults, charging him with armed violence, aggravated battery, and mob action. [00:04:37] Mr. Hammond is out on bail awaiting an August 1st court date. [00:04:42] In 2009, he was arrested for a similar attack when he and seven others tried to disrupt a group gathered to hear David Irving, a historian accused of minimizing the Holocaust, only to find police waiting for them. [00:04:55] Mr. Hammond pled guilty to disorderly conduct and got off with 10 days of community service and a small fine. [00:05:02] Police have not revealed how they caught Mr. Hammond this time, but surveillance footage we obtained from the police shows several of the perps eating at a Five Guys restaurant prior to the attack. [00:05:12] Minutes after the first group entered the restaurant, a second group joined them. [00:05:17] The white man here with the ear gauges and neck tattoos appears to be Alex Stuck. [00:05:22] This appears to be Jason Hammond. [00:05:26] Here he is winding up to smash something or someone in the Ashford House video. [00:05:32] Jason and Cody Sutherland are also clearly identifiable in the Five Guys footage. [00:05:39] All these men were brought to justice, but what about their friends? [00:05:43] The white man here is wearing the same shorts and shoes as this baton-wielding attacker in the Ashford video. [00:05:51] The black man has the same hat, shirt, shorts, and arm tattoos as this masked, baton-wielding thug. [00:05:59] Why haven't they been arrested? [00:06:01] Why haven't their friends been arrested? [00:06:04] The faces of many of them are clear in the Five Guys footage. [00:06:08] Why haven't police made these images public? [00:06:12] We tried to find out from the Tenley Park Police, but repeated phone calls over the course of several weeks were not returned. [00:06:19] Both Alex Stuck and John Tucker were released after serving just 18 and 20 months, respectively, of their 42-month sentences. [00:06:27] Other members of the Tinley Park Five may be released before year's end. [00:06:31] All of their lawyers worked pro bono. [00:06:34] John Tucker's lawyer, Stuart Smith, said, quote, He says the attackers stormed the restaurant because, quote, they were trying to fight for equal rights.
