This is state terrorism, global outrage as Trump launches the illegal assault on Venezuela.
The Trump administration military assault on Venezuela and apparent abduction of the country's press in the early hours of Saturday morning sparked immediate backlash from leaders in Latin America and across the globe.
Lawmakers, activists, experts accusing the U.S. of launching yet another illegal war of aggression.
Latin American leaders portrayed the assault as a continuation of the long bloody history of U.S. intervention in the region, which has included vicious military coups and material support for genocidal right-wing forces, I would add, not to mention assassinations, including of the Marxist president of Chile, Eliendo, merely because they had a political philosophy the United States didn't like.
And of course, it was going to no doubt nationalize assets U.S. wanted to maintain.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Sachs at the Security Council slammed the U.S. power grab.
This is a fine statement he made.
Here's part of it.
I now give the floor to Mr. Jeffrey Sachs.
Mr. President, distinguished members of the Security Council, the issue before the Council today is not the character of the government of Venezuela.
The issue is whether any member state, by force, coercion, or economic strangulation, has the right to determine Venezuela's political future or to exercise control over its affairs.
This question goes directly to Article 2, Section 4 of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
The Council must decide whether that prohibition is to be upheld or abandoned.
Abandoning it would carry consequences of the gravest kind.
Let me offer some background.
Since 1947, the United States foreign policy has repeatedly employed force, covert action, and political manipulation to bring about regime change in other countries.
This is a matter of carefully documented historical record.
In her book, Covert Regime Change, political scientist Lindsay O'Rourke documents 70 attempted U.S. regime change operations between 1947 and 1989 alone.
These practices did not end with the Cold War.
Since 1989, major United States regime change operations undertaken without authorization by the Security Council have included, among the most consequential, Iraq, 2003, Libya, 2011, Syria, beginning in 2011, Honduras, 2009, Ukraine, 2014, and Venezuela from 2002 onward.
The methods employed are well established and well documented.
They include open warfare, covert intelligence operations, instigation of unrest, support for armed groups, manipulation of mass and social media, bribery of military and civilian officials, targeted assassinations, false flag operations, and economic warfare.
These measures are illegal under the UN Charter, and they typically result in ongoing violence, lethal conflict, political instability, and deep suffering of the civilian population.
I like that.
Jeffrey Sachs did a great job.
Meanwhile, Putin has issued a huge warning.
If we really want to tackle climate change, we need the science and we need the policy.
The shockwaves from Washington's strike on Venezuela are already rippling far beyond Latin America.
Moscow was among the first capitals to respond, and its words were sharp, deliberate, and unmistakable.
Calling the U.S. action armed aggression, Russia has drawn a red line around sovereignty, escalation, and global stability.
As confusion deepens in Caracas, the diplomatic and military fallout is accelerating.
Russia reacted swiftly and forcefully.
In a rare early morning statement, Moscow accused the United States of committing an act of armed aggression against Venezuela, condemning the strike and warning that escalation could spiral beyond control.
The Russian foreign ministry rejected Washington's justification outright, calling it untenable.
Moscow said ideological hostility had overtaken diplomacy and that trust, predictability, and pragmatism had been abandoned in favor of force.
Russia urged all sides to step back.
Dialogue, it said, must replace military pressure.
Moscow reaffirmed its position that disputes, no matter how severe, must be resolved through negotiation, not bombardment.
The message was pointed: Latin America must remain a zone of peace.
Venezuela, Russia said, has the right to determine its own future, free from external military interference.
Moscow declared its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and voiced support for the country's Bolivarian leadership, framing the crisis as a test of sovereignty, not just for Venezuela, but for international order.
Needless to say, China has declared it can't accept countries that would act as the world's judge after the U.S. abduction of Maduro.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is that Beijing cannot accept any country acting as the world's judge after the United States abducted Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro.
We have never believed that any country can act as a world police, nor do we accept that any nation can claim to be the world's judge.
Wang told his Pakistani counterpart Ishar Dar during a meeting in Beijing Sunday, referring to sudden developments in Venezuela without directly mentioning the United States.
The sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected under international law.
China stopped Manhattan in his first remarks since images of the 63-year-old Maduro blindfolded and handcuffed on Sunday stunned Venezuelans.

After the Venezuelan assault, Trump and Rubio warned Cuba, Mexico and Colombia could be next.
This is outrageous.
The Trump corollary to the Monroe doctrine, applied in recent hours with violent force over the skies like Aracas, is the single greatest threat to peace and prosperity that the Americas confront today, said progressive international.
U.s president Trump and top administrative officials, including secretary of state Marco Rubio, characterized saturday's assault on Venezuelan abduction of the country president as a warning shot in the direction of Cuba Mexico, Colombia and other Latin American nations.
During a saturday press conference, Trump openly invoked the Monroe doctrine, an assertion of U.s dominance of the Western Hemisphere, and said his campaign of aggression against Venezuela represent the Monroe doctrine in action.
In his unwieldy remarks, Trump called out Colombian president Gustavo Petro by name, accusing him without evidence of making cocaine and sending it to the United States.
So he does have to watch his ass, the president said.
A Pietro who condemned the Trump admitted saturday attack on Venezuela as aggression against the sovereignty of Venezuela and Latin America.
Petro responded defiantly to the possibility of U.s targeting him, writing on social media that he is not worried at all.
Meanwhile new painting video, the Monroe doctrine is bullshit.
Caitlin Johnstone, I am so impressed by her dopey right-wingers, who learned the phrase Monroe doctrine like 10 whole seconds ago, have been mindlessly parroting these words all day to defend Trump's Venezuela assault.
And what's greating about that is that they actually think they're talking about a real thing.
They're like, no no, it was totally legit.
See, there's this thing called the Monroe doctrine.
Monroe Doctrine, Monroe Doctrine, which says we get to control everything that happens in the Western Hemisphere and treat half the planet like it's our own personal property.
Right in reality, the Monroe doctrine was just racist U.s imperialists telling racist European imperialists 200 years ago that everyone and everything in Latin America belongs to Washington.
All they were saying was, see those green people over there like they're your brown people.
These brown people over here, they belong to us.
You're welcome to use and exploit the brown people in Asia or in Africa all you want, but these brown people are ours.
Only we get to use them.
The briefest moment of critical thought would immediately tell anyone that the Monroe doctrine has always been made up nonsense.
But these bleeding, Leading human livestock can't even be bothered with That.
They're just yelling, Monroe doctrine, Monroe doctrine, like a bunch of trained parrots without the slightest thought as to what they're actually saying.
It's just the same as me writing on a piece of paper: everyone on my street has to do what I say.
I control everyone and everything on this street, and I get to side what happens in these houses and who lives where, and then calling it the Johnston doctrine and treating it like it's a valid legal document.
It's just some bullshit made up by dead assholes two centuries ago.
The fact they called it a doctrine, a big word, doesn't make it more legitimate than if some schmuck wrote it on Twitter today and called it the Monroe tweet, or like they said it on TikTok and called it the Monroe TikTok.
Just because it's a fancy word doesn't mean it constitutes a valid argument for why it's fine to invade a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader to steal the country's oil.
It's just the same as saying, Well, yeah, we stole Venezuela because we wanted to, which is what they're saying.

I guess it has to be put in a larger context in terms of objectives and strategy and also, I guess, what success would actually look like.
There you go again, asking all these tough questions.
And there is no strategy, as I keep trying to tell people.
I've been saying this for months about everything.
There is no strategy.
There is no coherent strategic framework that provides guidance for any action of any kind.
I think everything is impulse-driven.
We have an emotionally charged presidency.
Everyone is scurrying to get their cut of whatever financial benefit is on hand as a result of any action we take.
So I just don't see any evidence for a coherent national military strategy, or certainly no evidence for a coherent grand strategy.
And if you look at what happened, this is very typically American.
We go in, we make a big splash, we declare victory, we congratulate ourselves, and then someone says, well, now what?
So much beyond the planning and the preparation for the kidnapping or arrest, as they claim, of Mr. Maduro and his wife, there doesn't seem to have been a great deal of thought given.
I think that was pretty evident when you listened to the president at the press conference.
He said, well, what are you going to do now?
I mean, that was the question everybody asked.
You know, what are you going to do?
And his answer was, well, you know, we're going to run it for a while.
Going to run Venezuela for a while, a place the size of France, Germany, and Austria combined with a population of somewhere between 28 and 30 million people.
Great.
We're going to run it for a while.
Well, how do you plan to do that?
Well, we'll figure that out.
We'll do that.
Well, Rubio over Marco over here, he'll run it.
I think that's what you're dealing with.
As far as the operation itself is concerned, what I have been able to learn over the last couple of days from talking to people who have a lot of experience on the ground there and have a background in intelligence, which I do not, it looks like we spent an awful lot of money to buy out everyone who might interfere with our capture and arrest of Maduro.
Now, it does seem that the Cuban bodyguard or security detachment, whatever it was, was largely eliminated.
How that happened, did we do it?
Was it done for us by mercenaries or other entities?
I have no idea.
But I think we did everything we could to avoid casualties.
And this is another unfortunate feature of American foreign policy these days.
And President Trump has fallen into this trap repeatedly.
He leads with, well, we got in, we did everything, we had no losses.
He said that about the attack on Iran when he bombed or allegedly bombed the nuclear facilities.
And then he said, it was wonderful.
It was beautiful.
It was great.
It was super.
And now we have peace.
It's over.
Well, we all know that's not true because Netanyahu was just in Washington and it's pretty obvious to everybody, especially if you follow the Israeli media at all, that a new war is about to erupt with Iran.
Now, they think they're just going to strike Iran with impunity and potentially Iran won't strike back.
I don't know.
But I think we're headed in that direction right now.
So I think the real question now for President Trump is, he said the same thing.
We got in.
It was wonderful.
It was perfect.
It was beautiful.
No one, we didn't lose anybody.
Well, we did have one aircraft apparently that was badly damaged and had to abort, didn't participate in the mission.
I guess that was the one Venezuelan air defense battery that had not been alerted to stand down and let us in.
And of course, at the same time, we see this new vice president who's now become president.
She's talking out of both sides of her mouth.
On one side, she's telling everybody, you know, we're going to work with the Americans.
On the other side, she tells everybody, no, we're going to present resistance.
No one can dictate anything.
Bottom line is, I think, I don't think there's any plan of action whatsoever.
And my greatest fear is that this whole thing, if we press ahead on the current path, which is a path to uncertainty, is it's going to cost us a lot of money.
Well, I think when the colonel says there's no strategy here, he's looking from the point of view of the national interests of the United States.
If you look at it from the perspective of Israel, Maduro was an outspoken critic of the genocide.
He was a very strong supporter of the Palestinians, as was in the past Saddam Hussein.
Outspoken critic of Zionism of Israel, supporter of the Palestinians.
So once again, Israel is using the United States as its enforcer internationally and is now preparing for the attack on Iran.
The Trump benefit, I think it took a focus off of the Epstein files, which had been growing and growing and growing.
And even of criticism of Israel in the wake of the Charlie Kirk, which I take to have been a stage shooting, but most people tend to believe to have been real, which has just opened just a volume, a flood of criticism of Israel, unlike any I've ever witnessed before in my 85 years.
Meanwhile, international law experts agree Trump ordered attack on Venezuela, 100% illegal.
International law is not that the most powerful no longer respect it when an expert stressed to preserve the rules-based international or all states need to drop breaches of law when they occur.
Protests have erupted in the U.S. and around the world following President Trump's attack in Venezuela and abduction of President Paduro.
And international law experts Monday joined in rebuking the deadly military operation with several outlining exactly how Trump's actions were unlawful.

But it seems that the vice president of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez, who has been appointed now as the president of Venezuela, has a different idea and has hit back at this notion that Donald Trump is the ruler now of Venezuela.

The White House says that Trump administered President Venezuela's wife and brought him to the U.S. so put on trial for narco-terrorism.
The narcotics charge is a coffer for renewed looting of Venezuela's national resources, just as Saddam Hussein's alleged weapons of mass destruction and Assad-led use of chemical weapons were excuses to justify American military aggression against Iraq and Syria in order to serve Israel's agenda of a greater Israel.
President Trump had already told the world the real reason for the attack on Venezuela, Trump said, was going to take back our oil.

Trump sacrificed the support of his two strongest supporters in the House of Representatives, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massey.
Green resigned from Congress.

Well, that was just the beginning of a much longer game.
A game in which the superpowers are currently fighting to claim possession of Venezuela's black gold.
And what if I told you that maybe oil isn't the most valuable thing under that particular stretch of earth?
Here's what the media won't tell you about Venezuela.
Total oil reserves around the world.
The biggest of all is Venezuela.
First, let me give you a little historical context.
Venezuela roughly translates to Little Venice.
And this Little Venice very recently used to be one of the richest countries in Latin America.
Thanks to having more oil underground than anywhere else in the world, the shift to oil in the 1920s brought rapid growth to the country.
But it's important to note that the value of the Venezuelan dollar is totally dependent on the oil industry.
So oil prices dropped when the Middle East started exporting in the 1950s because there was too much supply compared to demand, which had an impact on the economies of all oil-producing countries.
In the 1960s, all these countries got together to discuss and plan, figure out a way to resolve this, which led to the formation of what is now known as OPEC.
And its original purpose was to control the oil supply in order to control the oil price.
And even though oil prices continued to fall throughout the 1970s, war changed all of that.
The 1973 Arab-Israeli war led to Arab oil trading companies to cut off trade with the United States and other nations who supported Israel, which was good for Venezuela because their oil prices shot up.
But the problem was that OPEC members didn't keep their original promise.
They didn't continue to regulate their supply of oil, and thus the market was flooded with supply, but not enough demand.
Meaning that there were some broke folks in Venezuela when socialist Hugo Chavez came to power.
Chavez had some economic success by nationalizing Venezuela's oil industry, and new oil demand came from India and China.
But he funded his ambitious educational and social programs with oil money, which turned out to be a risky play.
Overspending meant he borrowed heavily, but hey, his whole stick was that he was a Catholic and he thought that Jesus was a socialist revolutionary.
Venezuela's foreign policy became more antagonistic toward the United States and Israel under Hugo Chavez and then under Nicolas Maduro.
Even though, side note, Maduro claims his grandparents were Jewish.
And his praise for the Palestinian people, which I dare say had a significant role here, because the Zionist agenda is to silence every critic of Israel in the world.
Meanwhile, just yet, Nicolas Maduro speaks out in his first court appearance, seen with his wife, who seems to have significant injuries to her head.

He was also observed.
His wife was also observed with what appeared to be significant injuries to her temple and forehead.

He had on tan pants.

He is very tall.
He stood next to his attorneys.
He was flanked by two of them.
His wife on the other side of her, she had visible injuries in terms of bandages on her right temple and on her forehead as well.
Both of them appeared to be a little bit stoic and also having difficulty sitting and getting up from their chairs.
Nicolas Maduro, in particular, had to brace himself on either side of the arm of his chair to lower his body, which is very particularly tall.
During that, there was an opportunity for him to speak to the judge.
The judge asked him whether he in fact was Nicolas Maduro Moro and asked him to identify himself, which is totally routine.
Anytime someone goes before a court to present it, this was the opportunity that what he says to be the president of Venezuela began to speak.
He did not just state his name.
He described himself as a prisoner of war, talked about having been captured from his home in Venezuela, saying that he is still the president of that country.
The judge interrupted him and told him there'll be plenty of time to describe the legality of the removal from your home and also, of course, about your defenses.
Right now, I just want you to tell me whether or not you are Nicolas Maduro Moro.
I'm all on Maduro's side.
I think this is completely outrageous.
The United States had belittled itself, disgraced itself in the eyes of the world, violated international law.
This is not going to play out well.

But the reality is, is if he had, if Trump was facing a Senate full of traitors, how could he take the issue to them to ask for a declaration of war?
Because the belief is, is that the election fraud originated with a Venezuelan company, and part of that company was sold to China, to the CCP.
And of course, the city of London is in the middle of all this.
So this may be an appropriate action if all those facts, if all those are actual facts.
Well, among other points, you ignore the supremacy clause of the Constitution that declares that treaties are the supreme law of the land.

And why did President Roosevelt, why did he confiscate all the gold?

Listen, all of that oil used in World War II by the Allies came out of Venezuela.
And it was taken to the Caribbean to be refined.
And the refiners, of course, one of the big players was Standard Oil of New Jersey.
Shell refinery, Royal Dutch Shell was involved and one other.
So there's a history there of the United States.
I believe the United States probably brought those wells home.
That means drilled them.
And I think it was the Buckley family or some of those people.
I know Buckley was probably in Mexico, but he might have been in Venezuela.
So there is a that's where the oil came from.
Now, who it belongs to, of course, is politics.

And one more point is the United States did not invent wars.
You go back to Thucydides and the Peloponnesian Wars, all of these wars.
Of course, the technology has changed, but the architecture of the wars has not in terms of the players in the wars.
Okay, so you've got the diplomatic corps, they meet, and then you've got the people that are going to fight.
Well, obviously, the diplomats, the people that fight don't know what the diplomats are talking about.
So it's a very careful wars take maybe 10 years to start because they're organized that way.
