This is what happened.
Shots fired just outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner, spreading panic as President Trump, the First Lady, and top administration officials gathered with journalists for the annual event being held at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
Secret Service agents stormed the stage to shield the president and vice president, while hundreds of guests took cover under tables.
They didn't exactly storm it.
We'll get back to that in a second.
Inside the ballroom, surveillance video shows a suspect, 31 year old Cole Thomas Allen, attempt to run past a perimeter checkpoint before being stopped by law enforcement.
Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanch on Meet the Press this morning.
We believe that he was targeting administration officials in this attempted attack.
Officials say a Secret Service officer was shot at close range during a confrontation but survived because of a protective vest.
As authorities look into the suspect's background and motive, they say he came armed with multiple weapons.
Investigators searched the suspect's Torrance home and recovered writings in his hotel room critical of Trump and his administration.
President Trump was asked about the suspect's manifesto Sunday during a 60 Minutes interview.
I read a manifesto.
He's He was a Christian believer, and then he became an anti Christian, and he had a lot of change.
He's been going through a lot based on what he wrote.
There have been at least two prior attempts on Mr. Trump's life, leading to criticism of a possible security breach at such a high profile event.
The system worked.
We were safe.
President Trump was safe.
His Secret Service agents have kept him safe.
It's clear to me that in his head, he probably realized he wasn't going to be able to get all the way into the secure ballroom.
Michael Matronga is a former Secret Service agent who has worked events at the Hilton before.
I don't necessarily consider a couple hundred yards or more extremely close to the president or to any of the protectees.
Neither do I.
It was clear to me that he knew that he was not going to be able to fulfill his mission, which is why he chose the desperate attempt of trying to run past the checkpoints.
President Trump thanked federal law enforcement for their quick actions to keep everyone safe, saying he wasn't worried there would be any casualties or injuries.
He says plans are in the works to reschedule the event now.
So, you see what happens when you don't book a comedian to host the show?

Let me explain some of the issues.
And let me emphasize this is not just my opinion.
I've got a buddy who ran Reagan's security detail after Reagan was shot.
Experienced Secret Service officer.
He actually set up the training protocols that Secret Service is supposed to adhere to, which they are no longer following.
Now, let me emphasize that.
So, the first thing that caught my eye.
The first person that's taken off the stage, so you got gunfire outside of the ballroom.
It's not inside the ballroom.
The first person to be taken off stage was JD Vance.
And I look at it and go, What in God's name is going on?
And then it was almost 30 seconds later until they took the president off.

But the first person they did take off was JD Vance, and they took him off like that.
And then Trump was sitting there looking around for at least 15 seconds, possibly 30.
The protocol, the standard, the requirement is the president.
Get the president.
Everybody else can die.
The president.
That's who you save.
That's what Secret Service is supposed to be trained to do.
They didn't do that.
They take off JD Vance.
So you're going, okay, what's going on?
Trump initially.
What's going on is that it's a psyop.

That doesn't make any sense.

He's sitting there calmly looking around like.

The second thing is the failure of the security perimeter.
That it was not properly set up.
So, the way this should be done is you have a perimeter outside the hotel.

So, you set the first layer that nobody gets past that first layer unless they have a right to be in that hotel.
They can show that they're a guest or that they got an invitation.
Otherwise, nobody gets here.

This is retired Lieutenant Colonel Tony Aguilar, who's been on this show.
And he concurs that this was a PSYOP and a setup.
I agree with Larry in that not only does it stink to high heaven, it was entirely bizarre and what is akin to a high school play.
When you look at who was present, the administration, Trump had his cast of clowns and his cabinet of idiocracies all convened at the Washington Hilton.
What's ironic is that the Secret Service has a very robust security plan for that specific hotel, because if we all recall in March of 1981, that's the same hotel that Ronald Reagan was shot in.
That's why it's called the Hilton Hinckley, because of John Hinckley that fired those shots.
So the fact that the security was so lackluster, unprofessional, the shooter was able to penetrate to the depths that he did with seemingly no objective with a shotgun, a pistol, and a knife, unless he was Charlie Bronston or trying to.
Reenact something from the, you know, from a bad B type action movie.
This was the setup.
This is another attempt for Donald Trump to bring attention during very low polling.
And it brings a lot of question and a lot of scrutiny onto what actually happened in Butler.

I don't think that's why they did it.
But here, I'll tell you a federal judge, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, ruled in late March, so just a few weeks ago.
He ruled that the construction of President Trump's planned $400 million White House ballroom must be halted until Congress provides explicit statutory authorization.
The exception is the initial order allowed work strictly necessary for safety and security.
For example, underground bunker elements.
In mid April, Leon clarified, reiterated that the halt on above ground ballroom construction, rejecting the administration's attempt to classify the entire project, As a national security matter to bypass the ruling.
So when they went to the press conference, I'm going to show you that in a second, but that's the first, everybody's tweeting out like crazy.

And form an alliance with China and Russia and Iran.

But I think which way the wind is blowing is fairly clear.
And as regards all three of the categories that you have mentioned, both the Kremlin insiders and those a bit on fringes, and then the general public, the wind is clear.
Putin is in trouble.
So have you heard anything about that?
I heard that their people are turning against how long this war is taking, and they see Iran standing up to the U.S., where he is kind of not.
Do you have any reaction to that?
Yeah, Gil unfortunately doesn't know what he's talking about.
It was, you know, the latest popularity public opinion poll has Putin supported like 76%.
Yeah, man, he's in trouble.
He's only got three quarters of the country behind him.
He has largely turned over, you know, the conduct of the war is in the hands of Gerasimov.
Look, I've been to Moscow seven times in the last two and a half years.
I've spoken directly, interviewed along with the judge, Sergey Lavrov.
Yeah, I think Gil is looking for clickbait or headlines or whatever because Putin's fine.
The spring offensive is cranking up.
We keep getting these recycled stories about, oh, the Russian economy is collapsing.
Yeah, it's collapsing in such a way that at the start of this war with Iran, Russia was selling oil at $47 a barrel.
Now it's selling oil at $97 a barrel.
So it has more than doubled its money, and they're.
They're doing okay.
So, yeah, that's just more Western, I would call it Western propaganda.
So, what do you make of Putin dragging this war out and not going for the jugular?
It is avoiding casualties.
That's it.
I mean, it's not like a football game where, hey, we're in the fourth quarter, got two minutes left to go.
You got to get out of there and score that touchdown.
No, they're moving methodically.
They've avoided casualties, both civilian casualties.
You know, you compare the number of civilians that have been killed over the course of, you know, let's go back to 2014, 2015.
Compare that with what Israel has done to the Palestinians in, you know, a little over two years.
It doesn't even register.
So they are, their spring offensive is moving right now.
They're moving all along the line of contact from north to south.
They're surrounding Sumi.
Which is a major city that really is the gateway into Kiev.
So, you know, this is.
We go through these cycles where the Western propaganda keeps pumping out the story, like right now, oh, the economy is in terrible shape and Putin's in trouble.
There is absolutely no sign of that.
This isn't the first time Gil's been wrong on something like this.
And so, do you think that Putin is going to go to Kiev?
Yeah, before this is over, Russia's going to be in control of Kiev and Odessa.
Again, they're probably going to accelerate the movement.
They'll finish capturing the two last big cities in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk that are in Donetsk and Donbass.
And once those are captured, they'll probably have those by the end of June, end of July.
Then Donbass is captured, and it's on to finishing off Zaporizhia.
This.
Putin does not set the doctrine and strategy.
It is the Garasimov.
It's the army that does that.
Putin will, you know, he gives his advice, and there are certain areas where he will command.
But one of the key things for him was let's minimize the casualties of our own troops and minimize civilian casualties on the other side.
So if there's such a thing as fighting a humane war, this is about as close as you get to it.
And any prediction on when this will end?
I think the end of this year is very possible.

It's been going on way longer than I thought it would go on.
But it definitely, yeah.
It's definitely ending the way we predicted it on day one that it's going to end on Russia's terms.

Well, you know, we're seeing a lot of parallels between the war in Iran, although it's only been going on for 55, 56 days now, with two weeks of that or ceasefire, and what's happening in Russia.
You remember early on in the war with the special military operation, as the Russians called it.
There were all these reports that Russia's running out of missiles.
They're running out of missiles, you know, April, May.
Anytime now, they're running out.
And they kept firing and cranking them out.
So now that we've seen, and that Putin made very clear in June of 2024 what his demands were from the West.
And the West kept ignoring it.
He said, look, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk, those are all now permanently part of Russia.
We want NATO to get the hell out of Ukraine and leave us alone, basically.
And the West kept saying, oh, he doesn't mean that.
He's willing to make a deal, ceasefire in place, leave half of Zaporizhia or Kherson to us.
No.
His demands were clear.
Same with Iranians.
The Iranians gave a 10 point plan to Trump and they said, look, lift the sanctions, unfreeze our assets, get a ceasefire between Israel, Lebanon, and Hezbollah, and we're going to keep control of the Strait of Hormuz.
And Trump and company keep thinking they're kidding.
And so now we got this story circulating oh, there's great division between the Iranian leadership that the Pesheshkian.
The president and Arachi, the foreign minister, they're at odds with the IRGC.
