Jim Bakker Show - What Secrets Can You Find In Job - Dr. Michael Brown Aired: 2021-09-24 Duration: 04:03 === Job's Wager (03:08) === [00:00:00] What are the pieces of Job's story that you feel like maybe we're missing? [00:00:07] Yeah, so I wrote a commentary in the book of Job and then did a fresh translation of Job, which is very challenging Hebrew. [00:00:14] And then I took the key lessons from that and put it into this one chapter on Job. [00:00:19] So in short, we know the story. [00:00:20] This ideally righteous man supernaturally blessed by God and then loses everything. [00:00:25] There's a wager between God and Satan. [00:00:28] Will Job serve God without all the goodies, without all the benefits? [00:00:32] And God has a purpose for letting Job go through all of this. [00:00:36] And what happens is the friends, when they see Job's life, they conclude you must have sinned. [00:00:43] You were super blessed because you're righteous. [00:00:45] Surely if you went through this, surely if you had a stroke, surely you must have sinned, right? [00:00:50] So that's how people often look at things, right? [00:00:53] Just black and white. [00:00:55] Job, we thought you were righteous. [00:00:56] Obviously, you weren't that righteous. [00:00:58] God's purging you. [00:01:00] Well, so they misjudged Job. [00:01:01] They did. [00:01:02] Job, on his part, misjudges God because he knows he doesn't deserve this. [00:01:08] He knows that he's really been seeking to honor God and walk in the fear of God. [00:01:12] He doesn't deserve this. [00:01:13] So God must not be the God he thought he was. [00:01:15] The friends think Job's not the guy we thought he was. [00:01:18] Job thinks God's not the God I thought he was. [00:01:21] So the first lesson is don't do that. [00:01:23] Don't judge the person. [00:01:25] Well, you must have sinned because you got in that car right. [00:01:27] You must be. [00:01:28] Don't judge the person. [00:01:29] And then don't judge God. [00:01:31] Don't say, well, you're not the God I thought you were. [00:01:33] In the midst of this, Job challenges God. [00:01:36] Now, on the one hand, he goes way too far. [00:01:41] He accuses God falsely of being basically a monster that just destroys people indiscriminately. [00:01:46] However, he's also saying, God, I know you. [00:01:50] And there has to be redemption. [00:01:52] I know my Redeemer lives. [00:01:54] So when you get to the end of the book, it's fascinating. [00:01:57] When God speaks for several chapters, he doesn't answer Job's questions at all. [00:02:04] Doesn't even touch on them. [00:02:05] Rather, he reveals himself and his beauty and wisdom and power. [00:02:08] And Job, where were you when I made the universe? [00:02:11] Tell me how the mountain goes. [00:02:13] Tell me about the mountain goats. [00:02:14] Just tell me about that. [00:02:15] When do they conceive? [00:02:16] You don't know anything, Job. [00:02:19] And you're accusing me. [00:02:20] So God rebukes Job. [00:02:22] Job humbles himself and repents. [00:02:24] But then God says to the friends, I'm angry with you. [00:02:27] I mean, this is an amazing part of the book. [00:02:29] In Job 42, I'm angry with you because you didn't speak rightly about me as Job did. [00:02:35] What? [00:02:36] Job spoke rightly about God? [00:02:38] Yes, because Job was basically saying, if the God that I know to be true is really there, then there must be justice in God's universe. [00:02:46] There must be redemption. [00:02:48] And God said to Job, yeah, you falsely accused me, but you recognize that I do set things right. === Trust In The Cross (01:09) === [00:02:55] That in the end it does make sense. [00:02:57] That even though we all go through things for which we have no answer now, and I know some of you are watching, you do not, you've been following the Lord for years and you still do not have an answer. [00:03:09] You do not know why certain things happen to you the way they do. [00:03:13] If you continue to honor God and say, Lord, even though I'm hurting, even though I don't understand this, I'm going to trust you. [00:03:19] I'm going to look at the cross. [00:03:20] I'm going to remember how much you love me by looking at the cross and seeing what Jesus did on my behalf. [00:03:26] And I am simply going to trust you. [00:03:28] He will turn the worst things into the best. [00:03:32] He will turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones. [00:03:35] The worst situation will become an opportunity for God to glorify himself. [00:03:39] And either in this world or the world to come, there will be a full payback and God's ways will be vindicated. [00:03:47] And when you take hold of that, even though you may not have a specific answer for your question, you have the presence of God. [00:03:54] And when you have that, when you encounter him, that's it. [00:03:58] You don't need the answers. [00:04:00] You don't need anything else. [00:04:01] He is real. [00:04:02] He is good.
