[00:00:00]  So what are the first principles of the oracles of God in Hebrews 512, I believe it is?
[00:00:07]  Milk rather than solid food.
[00:00:10]  Well, in 512, the writer of Hebrews, we really don't know who wrote the book of Hebrews, but the writer of Hebrews said, by now, you guys ought to be teachers.
[00:00:22]  That's an amazing statement.
[00:00:24]  The word ought in Greek is the word day.
[00:00:27]  It describes an obligation or a moral obligation.
[00:00:31]  It means you guys are morally obligated by this time to be a teacher.
[00:00:35]  And the word teacher is the Greek word didaskalos, which is the New Testament word for rabbis.
[00:00:40]  It's the equivalent of saying, after all you have heard in your life, all the preaching, all the meetings you have attended, by now you guys should be masterful revelators.
[00:00:53]  In fact, you guys ought to be rabbis by this time.
[00:00:57]  And he said instead, you have need that somebody teach you the first principles of the oracles of God.
[00:01:06]  In Greek, it really means to take you back to the ABCs.
[00:01:11]  You need to go back and learn your ABCs.
[00:01:15]  Well, you know, it's really good when you have great desire to be something.
[00:01:18]  But you know what?
[00:01:21]  If a child wants to be a brain surgeon, do you hand them a scalpel just because they have a desire to be a brain surgeon?
[00:01:30]  Or do you require them first to get some education?
[00:01:33]  Well, I don't want anybody operating on me that doesn't know the ABCs of surgery.
[00:01:39]  And it's good to have desire.
[00:01:41]  That's great.
[00:01:41]  But one reason a lot of people are making mistakes in ministry is because they're exalted to these very high places and they skipped the ABCs.
[00:01:52]  They have talent, they have gifts, but they lack basic information.
[00:01:56]  They should not have skipped the first, second, and third grade.
[00:01:59]  Those are essential.
[00:02:02]  And when the Bible says you have need that someone teach you the first principles of the oracles of God, it means going back to the foundations.
[00:02:10]  And the foundational doctrines are listed in Hebrews chapter 6, and they are, first of all, repentance from dead works.
[00:02:18]  Secondly, faith toward God.
[00:02:20]  That's very important.
[00:02:21]  Most people don't understand that at all.
[00:02:23]  Number three, the doctrine of baptisms, which is plural.
[00:02:28]  Then you have the doctrine of the laying on of hands.
[00:02:31]  Then you have the doctrine of resurrection from the dead.
[00:02:33]  And finally, the doctrine of eternal judgment.
[00:02:37]  Those six things are so elementary, but most Christians today could not pass the test on these elementary things.
[00:02:46]  And they have need that somebody teach them these basic things.

[00:02:54]  It's a good review just to go back and make sure that you've got it right on these real basic principles.
