Jim Bakker Show - The Other Scripture All Christians Should Know - Jerry Barnard on The Jim Bakker Show Aired: 2019-06-26 Duration: 04:50 === Holiness Movement Begun (04:29) === [00:00:00] And you know, the reason that the church is still alive today in the world is because God's people have opened up to the Holy Spirit. [00:00:10] How vital is the Holy Spirit for revival? [00:00:12] You cannot make it without it. [00:00:14] That's right. [00:00:15] You cannot make it without it. [00:00:16] You know, there's a scripture in Romans. [00:00:19] Let me read this. [00:00:21] You need to know this scripture as much as you know John 3, 16. [00:00:26] None of us can live without John 3.16. [00:00:29] But you need this scripture just as much. [00:00:31] I'll read into it. [00:00:33] This is Romans 8, verse 12. [00:00:36] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. [00:00:43] For if you live according to the flesh, you will die. [00:00:47] But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. [00:00:53] And here's what everybody should memorize, just like you memorized John 3, 16. [00:01:00] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. [00:01:08] So good. [00:01:09] Dear ones, you didn't get saved without the Holy Spirit working in your life. [00:01:14] That's right. [00:01:15] You didn't get saved without that. [00:01:17] Our dear holiness people throughout the 1800s taught sanctification because they said you need a deeper work of the Holy Spirit. [00:01:26] Their misunderstanding was that that was the baptism in the Holy Spirit. [00:01:31] But it was not. [00:01:32] That was a sanctifying experience by the Holy Spirit. [00:01:35] But thankfully, at the turn of the 20th century, a Methodist preacher by the name of Charles Fox Parham of the little Bible school in Topeka, Kansas, asked his students to study the Bible and said, is there more? [00:01:50] Because he was of the holiness movement, saved and sanctified. [00:01:53] And they found there were manifestations when you allow the Holy Spirit to control you. [00:01:58] And one of the manifestations was speaking in tongues. [00:02:02] And there was healings, of course, and others. [00:02:04] So they began to preach that if you will allow yourself to have the Holy Spirit lead you, control you, guide you, there will be manifestations. [00:02:15] And one of those will be the speaking in tongues. [00:02:17] And that's what began to move. [00:02:19] And it was there that revival was born. [00:02:22] Of course, they didn't understand it. [00:02:24] And they discouraged Charles Parham. [00:02:27] He gave up his vision, but then he moved to Houston, Texas, and God renewed his vision. [00:02:34] Does that sound familiar? [00:02:35] When you've lost, and then you start over again? [00:02:38] Does that sound familiar? [00:02:40] But in Houston, Texas, he started again. [00:02:42] And there in that Bible school was a dear black brother, William Seymour. [00:02:46] And he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. [00:02:49] He was a holiness preacher. [00:02:50] And later on, he was invited to Los Angeles to preach at a holiness church. [00:02:55] On Sunday morning, he preached the whole load, all of it, because he was excited about the Pentecostal experience. [00:03:02] Well, that night when he came back for the service, they locked the door and said, we don't want to hear you. [00:03:07] You're not welcome. [00:03:08] But one of the sisters says, come to my house. [00:03:10] We want to hear more. [00:03:11] And a group of people gathered in their home there, and they had church. [00:03:15] And it went on weeks. [00:03:18] They had so many people coming. [00:03:19] They get to praising God and shouting and dancing. [00:03:22] And the floor fell through. [00:03:24] But they said, we've got to get a different place. [00:03:27] And so they looked and found an old abandoned warehouse on Azusa Street. [00:03:31] And there on Azusa Street, they began to have church. [00:03:34] For three and a half years, the Spirit of the Lord moved, and the Pentecostal movement was born. [00:03:39] And out of that came the Church of God and the Assemblies of God and the Forest Square and all of the Pentecostal women. [00:03:45] And the greatest, largest holiness movement was the Church of God in Christ. [00:03:50] They were holiness at that time. [00:03:51] And they embraced the baptism of the Holy Spirit. [00:03:55] And now today, the Church of God in Christ is the largest denomination in the United States. [00:04:00] And the Assemblies of God embraced it, and they were birthed out of that. [00:04:04] And around the world, they're the largest Pentecostal denomination. [00:04:08] And no matter where you go, South America, Central America, Africa, India, it doesn't matter. [00:04:14] The greatest move of God is with people that will allow the power of the Holy Spirit to move through their life. === Mighty Outpouring of the Holy Spirit (00:35) === [00:04:20] It's exploding and it's getting ready to explode again. [00:04:24] It's going to come among these young people and among these seeker-friendly churches that are so hungry for God. [00:04:30] They're there by the tens of thousands. [00:04:32] And suddenly there's going to be a sound from heaven and it's going to fill all the house where they're sitting. [00:04:38] And there's going to appear cloven tongues like as a fire. [00:04:41] And you're going to see a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit like never before because we're living in that glorious day. [00:04:48] Hear me, ladies and gentlemen.
