Jim Bakker Show - Is America Mirroring The Roman Empire - Derek Gilbert on The Jim Bakker Show Aired: 2019-03-19 Duration: 03:04 === From Republic to Empire (02:26) === [00:00:00] There is a viciousness. [00:00:02] What do you think is going on? [00:00:03] You got intellect that you thinking about this every day. [00:00:06] You are amazing. [00:00:08] I think we can learn a lot from history. [00:00:09] And when we look at ancient history, look at the history of the Roman Republic, which was a republic long before it became an empire. [00:00:16] But it only lasted a few centuries before the infighting became too much, and it finally fell to men like Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus and the other emperors who basically seized control themselves. [00:00:29] And I think what we're seeing in America is the danger of us going in that same direction. [00:00:35] We are getting to a point where the legislature won't do anything because they're too busy fighting over their little pieces of the budget. [00:00:42] It was the very thing Benjamin Franklin said in those very early days. [00:00:46] Okay, we'll be a republic, but you'll be lucky if you can keep it. [00:00:50] We've given you a republic if you can keep it. [00:00:52] And that's exactly what happened to Rome. [00:00:54] They tried to become an empire. [00:00:56] They had armies all over the known world at that time. [00:00:59] We in the United States are doing the same thing. [00:01:02] We've got soldiers now in Afghanistan for going on 20 years now. [00:01:06] I mean, it took us, what, four to defeat Hitler and the Germans? [00:01:09] It's now 17, 18 years in Afghanistan, and we still... [00:01:12] But we're still in Germany. [00:01:13] And we're still in Germany. [00:01:14] Yeah, actually, we're still in Japan, too. [00:01:16] So we are stretched like the Roman Empire was 2,000 years ago. [00:01:20] And what happened to Rome? [00:01:21] It went from becoming, it went from a republic to an empire where we had a dictator. [00:01:26] They had a dictator. [00:01:28] And sadly, I think we're in the last days of this republic where we are going to see a dictator emerge. [00:01:35] Now, does that make America the end times Babylon? [00:01:38] We have some friends, some very learned Bible scholars and prophecy teachers who think it is. [00:01:43] I disagree, but I can see why they think so. [00:01:46] I think that the political infighting we're seeing right now is just the symptoms of America entering what could be its last days. [00:01:54] Well, what do you think about the fact that New York City, you know, I studied everything when I was in the prison, and I came up with, it looked like New York fit the whole description of mystery Babylon. [00:02:08] There's some, again, some very well-respected prophecy teachers, yourself included, who reached that conclusion. === God's Need-to-Know Basis (00:52) === [00:02:14] I tend to agree with Joel Richardson. [00:02:17] What does he think? [00:02:18] Who thinks that Mystery Babylon, in fact, his most recent book, is actually Mecca. [00:02:24] And in fact, my next book deals with that. [00:02:27] Now, I disagree with Joel on some points. [00:02:28] We've been exchanging email the last week or so, telling each other why we're wrong. [00:02:32] But we'll argue about it on the way up. [00:02:36] How come Christian teachers disagree? [00:02:41] God is not called the Lord of hosts, which means Lord of armies for no reason. [00:02:47] He reveals information on a need-to-know basis. [00:02:49] He is the greatest general in all of history, and there are some things that we don't need to know just yet. [00:02:56] Like they used to say in World War II, loose lips sink ships. [00:02:59] Too many of us are talking to the enemy. [00:03:01] Right. [00:03:02] We're going to have a great show tomorrow. [00:03:04] Oh, yeah.
