Jim Bakker Show - Root Issues - Evangelist Alveda King and Bishop Ron Webb Aired: 2017-08-31 Duration: 06:45 === Memorials Under Attack (06:33) === [00:00:00] Right now what I want to talk about is what people are talking about, the memorials that are being taken down, Lincoln Memorial vandalized with red spray paint. [00:00:12] Shocking. [00:00:12] And part of this particular one at the Lincoln Memorial, they literally carved out in the pillars there. [00:00:22] They carved out so they never can be repaired, they're saying. [00:00:27] Which is so heartbreaking. [00:00:29] If you've ever been, most American, every American should go to Washington, D.C. and see the memorials. [00:00:35] But the thing is to see that and to say they're not going to be able to fix it. [00:00:39] Abraham Lincoln Monument. [00:00:41] Here's another headline from the Washington Times. [00:00:44] Abraham Lincoln Monument torched in Chicago. [00:00:48] Yeah. [00:00:48] Wow. [00:00:49] An absolute disgraceful act. [00:00:52] Can you believe the Washington Times is saying that? [00:00:54] An absolute disgrace. [00:00:56] And it is. [00:00:57] We're still dealing with root issues. [00:01:00] And what we're seeing now is the manifestation of what has not been taken care of of roots. [00:01:05] This is a part of our history. [00:01:07] And to destroy that, good, bad, or ugly, history is history. [00:01:11] Now, it may be a better idea to put all these statues into a museum and let the people go. [00:01:19] Abraham Lincoln needs to go to a museum? [00:01:22] No, I'm just saying for the world's point of view, this is a part of our history. [00:01:28] Duke University removed already Robert E. Lee. [00:01:32] I was just with some very well-known people. [00:01:34] I won't give their name. [00:01:35] They're going to come on my show, and so I'll let them tell them. [00:01:38] But they are relatives of Robert E. Lee. [00:01:42] Yes. [00:01:43] And the mother, the wife, she's relatives of another of the leaders of the Civil War. [00:01:52] And these monuments should be memorials, not to honor them or anything. [00:01:59] And then here's another big, big headline. [00:02:02] Let's get rid of Mount Rushmore. [00:02:05] And then there's the one in Georgia. [00:02:07] You know Georgia, don't you? [00:02:09] Stone Mountain. [00:02:11] It will never be. [00:02:12] Stone Mountain. [00:02:13] They want to bring down, they want to explode. [00:02:17] But the people are not understanding what's going on. [00:02:20] Can you explain it to us? [00:02:21] I want to jump in on that. [00:02:23] And someone who's very close to me say, please don't go on national television and say all the statues are idols. [00:02:30] But I just said it on national television. [00:02:32] Let me explain what I mean by that. [00:02:35] In the Bible, we are warned, little children, keep yourselves from idols. [00:02:40] Right. [00:02:41] I know that one. [00:02:41] The same thing happens if I find myself in front of a statue or something and I'm admiring it and thinking all of this. [00:02:49] I'm saying, this is getting close to worship. [00:02:52] And so I'm supposed to keep myself from idols. [00:02:54] These are inanimate objects that are used to remind us of some good work that someone does. [00:03:00] But I know God knowing all things knew that in 2017, there were going to be people in America trying to tear down statues and fight and curse and mess them up. [00:03:11] So let's go back into context to remember that these should have been these, probably not at all, but we've got all these statues everywhere. [00:03:20] So the answer is not to burn them or tear them down or blow up Mount Rushmore or blow up Stone Mountain. [00:03:26] That is not the answer. [00:03:27] In returning to God, say, God, you warned us, you told us this kind of thing could happen. [00:03:31] We're very sorry. [00:03:33] We worship you. [00:03:34] And so if America goes into an act of worship and prayer, then the context will come. [00:03:41] We don't want to erase our history because if you erase your history, you're going to repeat it because you'll forget. [00:03:45] And the next generation won't remember. [00:03:48] So we have to remember, but let them not be idols. [00:03:52] Yes. [00:03:53] And then with what, you know. [00:03:55] We must remember slavery, though. [00:03:57] You have to remember. [00:03:59] Right, or am I wrong? [00:04:00] Black children need to know there was slavery. [00:04:03] And however, we were emancipated. [00:04:06] God used the president to do that. [00:04:08] We must remember that. [00:04:10] But just remember, we're not supposed to be fighting over these and not repeat it. [00:04:15] Pastor Jim, you said something. [00:04:17] Should we annihilate it? [00:04:20] Should we get rid of it? [00:04:21] No, we're not saying that. [00:04:23] Memorials are very important. [00:04:26] When the children of Israel came out of slavery, when they came out of Egypt, when Joshua was crossing the Jordan, what did he say? [00:04:35] Take stones out of this river, place them on the riverbank for you, number one, and for your children, number two. [00:04:43] So when they see these stones, they will ask, why are these stones here? [00:04:49] Then you remind them that it was God that brought us through what we've just come through. [00:04:54] So those memorials are not there to worship. [00:04:58] They're there as a remembrance. [00:05:00] You never want to erase history because history lets us know what we've come through to get to where we are today. [00:05:06] Exactly. [00:05:07] When I saw the statue come down where the girl went up and lassoed the soldier, and they got a close-up there of the statue as it was coming down. [00:05:19] And honestly, do you know what it said? [00:05:21] It says, in memory of the soldiers who had fought in the war and gave up their lives, thousands of soldiers died fighting for what they believed. [00:05:35] And most of them went because they were called to serve, you know. [00:05:42] And so it was, and when I read that on that statue, it says, in memory of what they did, that's not a bad thing. [00:05:49] The fact that they died, but now, see, 2017, Father, on every side we got it wrong. [00:05:56] We've messed up a lot. [00:05:57] Please forgive us and heal us. [00:06:00] Yes. [00:06:00] And let us forget our wounded hearts and broken hearts. [00:06:05] And remember that you are the healer through the blood of your Son by the power of your Holy Spirit. [00:06:10] So we turn away from the hate and we embrace your love. [00:06:14] And that's the answer to it. [00:06:15] That's the way you do that. [00:06:17] So you know that they suffered. [00:06:18] Brothers fought brothers across those lines. === Recognize the Hurt (00:26) === [00:06:21] Shocking. [00:06:22] And you see, and so all of that has to be healed. [00:06:25] But the only way to do it is still repent. [00:06:27] That's it. [00:06:28] For every wrong, on every side. [00:06:30] And didn't the president say that? [00:06:31] He said there's wrong on both sides. [00:06:33] Oh, Lord. [00:06:34] That's hard to see. [00:06:35] But we all have to come and repent together, recognize the hurt on both sides. [00:06:42] Jim, you're totally right. [00:06:43] There was pain on both sides. [00:06:44] Yes.
