Jim Bakker Show - Be Aware of the Absalom Spirit in Leadership Aired: 2015-07-28 Duration: 06:42 === Undermining Spirits in Ministry (05:11) === [00:00:00] What does that spirit do to leadership? [00:00:03] It's an undermining spirit. [00:00:05] Here's what happens. [00:00:06] Anytime there's an Absalon spirit that's active in any ministry, any business, what happens is, for instance, in ministry, the enemy uses this spirit to pollute the streams. [00:00:19] And anytime you muddy the waters, the sheep will never drink. [00:00:23] And so that spirit is active today. [00:00:26] Now, here's the thing. [00:00:28] A lot of people want your direction in ministry, but they don't want your correction in ministry. [00:00:33] That's it. [00:00:34] The real test is not direction. [00:00:36] The real test is correction. [00:00:38] So what happened is, when you look into the life of David, the Bible says Absalom, he was a smooth operator. [00:00:46] He was an ego stroker. [00:00:49] Okay? [00:00:49] And he stole the hearts of the men of Israel. [00:00:52] In one chapter, I deal with staff infection. [00:00:56] And those are all of those that were close to David. [00:00:58] David's entire staff turned against him because of one man that was there. [00:01:04] What did he do? [00:01:07] He sat by the gate. [00:01:09] Yes. [00:01:10] He knew the entrance of the church. [00:01:14] And he made statements like this. [00:01:16] If I was the pastor of the church, I wouldn't be running this ministry like this. [00:01:20] Oh, boy. [00:01:21] You know, I think the pastor, I think the king's a little too rough on the people here. [00:01:25] I think he's manipulating you all. [00:01:27] And you better open your eyes because what y'all need is a new leader. [00:01:32] You need a new leader. [00:01:33] So what this spirit does is poison the mind of people that's close to you. [00:01:38] And if you're not careful, those that you've trained and mentored, one spirit can come in the house and divide the whole house. [00:01:46] They lick the wounds. [00:01:47] After you bring correction, they come behind you and they take people to dinner. [00:01:53] They stroke them. [00:01:54] They sweet talk them. [00:01:56] They meet with them in back rooms and says, they shouldn't treat you this way. [00:02:01] Now, Absalom's spirit and Korah's spirit are first cousins. [00:02:05] Okay? [00:02:06] Now, Korah, now, Jude said this. [00:02:10] We must honestly contend for the faith that was delivered unto the saints of God. [00:02:14] Then he goes on to talk about false teachers have crept in. [00:02:18] And then he says they have gone the way of Cain, number one, Balaam, number two, and then Korah, number three. [00:02:25] He links them all together because Cain was a murdering spirit that comes to murder. [00:02:32] So how do people do it today? [00:02:33] They do it through accusations. [00:02:35] They try to kill your influence. [00:02:37] That's what Absalom did. [00:02:38] Balaam, what did Balaam do? [00:02:40] Balaam was a backslitting prophet. [00:02:42] Okay? [00:02:43] But because of greedy gain, gain, he prophesied for money. [00:02:48] Okay? [00:02:48] And then Korah pops up. [00:02:51] Who is Korah? [00:02:51] Korah was the one that opposed leadership. [00:02:54] So you're not the only one God's talking to. [00:02:57] Moses, Aaron, God's speaking to us too. [00:03:00] You got too much authority in this place. [00:03:03] Everybody's got to bow to you. [00:03:05] These are the accusations. [00:03:07] He brought six to eight accusations against the leadership. [00:03:10] And he tried to persuade the people and pull them away from their assignment. [00:03:15] We're in a generation today where there's young preachers that don't understand the process or people in ministry. [00:03:22] Let me say it like that. [00:03:23] Not just preacher, but people in ministry. [00:03:25] God will never put you over what's under you until you can first come under what's over you. [00:03:30] Oh, that's so good. [00:03:31] Because that's how God works. [00:03:32] That's true. [00:03:33] That's God's true. [00:03:34] No, we've got a generation that's hungry for power, prominence, and position. [00:03:38] But God always prepares you before he positions you. [00:03:41] Yes, he does. [00:03:42] Well, I got a prophecy. [00:03:44] And what happens is some of these false teachers will come in and it takes a spirit of discernment to recognize this. [00:03:51] While you're correcting them, they want to prophesy to them and tell them that they're greater than what they are. [00:03:57] And that's a danger. [00:03:59] Because if anybody knows the kids, mom and daddy do. [00:04:02] That's right. [00:04:03] Hello, somebody. [00:04:04] Have you ever had someone to come to your house and say, oh, your kids are just so sweet? [00:04:09] Lord, I love to take them to my house for a week. [00:04:12] And you stand in the back of your mind, okay? [00:04:14] When you get a little Johnny over there. [00:04:16] Yeah. [00:04:17] Yeah. [00:04:17] You're going to change your mind real quick. [00:04:19] You'll be sending him back home in about 30 minutes. [00:04:21] Hello, somebody. [00:04:22] Oh, my goodness. [00:04:23] Mom and daddy know the real deal. [00:04:25] I've actually sent a few of mine and they had sent him back. [00:04:27] They sent him back in a few minutes, yeah, when they were growing up. [00:04:30] So that's what happens in ministry. [00:04:31] When you started correcting people, then people come back and then they undermine. [00:04:37] Now, people don't understand how deadly this Absalon spirit is. [00:04:42] He stole the hearts of the men of Israel. [00:04:44] People that you train in here. [00:04:47] Someone can come in, and Absalom has influence. [00:04:52] Don't fool yourself. [00:04:53] Absalom has influence, and he has much influence. === David's Trusted Friend (01:45) === [00:04:56] He stole their hearts from under the king. [00:05:00] And listen to who he had in cahoots with him. [00:05:02] He had, number one, well, he had a hippophil. [00:05:06] That was David's counselor. [00:05:08] That was David's go-to man when he shared his heart with. [00:05:11] That's why David wrote in Psalms: he says, Those that have sat at my table have lifted their heels against me. [00:05:17] He says, Had this been an enemy, I could have dealt with it. [00:05:21] But this was a trusted friend. [00:05:22] This was someone that went to the sanctuary with me. [00:05:26] He was alluding to Ahippophel. [00:05:28] Okay, who was the other one? [00:05:29] It was Amazi. [00:05:30] Amazi was the captain of the host. [00:05:33] He's David's military man. [00:05:35] So now you've got Absalom, David's own biological son. [00:05:39] You've got Ahippophel, David's counselor. [00:05:41] You've got the military man, Amazi. [00:05:45] Then you even have Shemei. [00:05:46] Who's Shimmei? [00:05:47] He's David's best friend from his youth. [00:05:49] The Bible said he picks up a stone and he throws it in the face. [00:05:54] Your best friend. [00:05:55] Can't nobody hurt you like the one you love. [00:05:57] That's right. [00:05:57] Or closest to you. [00:05:58] Those are the ones that rip your heart out of your chest. [00:06:02] Okay? [00:06:03] And then here's the kicker, Mephiboshet. [00:06:07] Oh, no, not Mephibosheth. [00:06:10] He's the one that bought him from Lolibar. [00:06:12] Yeah. [00:06:12] David's walking through the palace one day and he asked the question: Is there any left in the house of Saul that I should show kindness to for Jonathan's sake? [00:06:20] They said, Yeah, there's one left. [00:06:22] He's Mephibosheth. [00:06:23] Where is he? [00:06:23] He's down in Lolibar. [00:06:25] Zibba, go and get him. [00:06:26] Fetch him. [00:06:26] Bring him in. [00:06:27] And bring him to the king's table. [00:06:30] And David says he's going to eat from the king's table. [00:06:33] But to David's amazement, all of them were in cahoots and they turned against their leader. [00:06:39] And Mephibosheth was in the group.
