[00:01:16] Clark told me if you're being told to pay for anything related to a flight with a digital wallet like Cash App, it's likely not legitimate. [00:01:25] The girl said that they were going to close the door in five minutes unless I gave them the Cash App card. [00:01:31] He is not alone. [00:01:32] Several Frontier Airlines passengers say they've encountered the same thing. [00:01:36] In her words, I don't give a damn what you're in, as long as you have my damn money. [00:01:41] You're asking me. [00:01:43] Oh, hey, this person's got to be black. [00:01:45] Yeah, this is Atlanta, Georgia. [00:01:48] That is never money. [00:01:51] Get my damn money. [00:01:52] Yeah, that sounds like a black woman, don't it? [00:01:55] Need to get on the plane that I already paid for. [00:01:58] Both Frontier passengers told me gate agents demanded they pay them via Cash App before being allowed to board their flight. [00:02:05] He said we're going to close the door in five minutes. [00:02:07] And if I didn't pay the $25 fee, then I would not be allowed on the plane. [00:02:10] You have Cash App? [00:02:12] Look, I ain't got no money. [00:02:13] Do you think they should be fired? [00:02:15] They should be fired. [00:02:17] They should be arrested. [00:02:18] Yeah, Steph. [00:02:31] Channel 2 consumer advisor Clark Howard says, if any airline employee asks you to pay via a digital wallet, that's a red flag. [00:02:39] The money wasn't going in Frontier's pockets. [00:02:42] It was being stolen from the customers' pockets, allegedly, into the employees' pockets. [00:02:48] I mean, you ask if people that's getting on Frontier, they already broke. [00:02:51] That's the cheapest tickets on the market. [00:02:53] I mean, you can fly from Las Vegas to Atlanta for like 15 bucks. [00:02:58] If you do it in advance, give it a couple weeks, you fly for $10, right? [00:03:03] How do you think these people got money? [00:03:04] That's crazy, man. [00:03:05] You know how much balls Cajonis you got to have to charge people to run that scam? [00:03:10] You don't really have to have any balls. [00:03:12] You just got to be brain dead. [00:03:32] Frontier Customer Service told their passenger, Jermaine Coger, the $25 charge was likely for an airport assistance fee. [00:03:39] But Coger says he didn't make that request and believes employees are taking advantage of Frontier's program by having unknowing passengers deposit money into their personal accounts. [00:03:50] I just thought everything was unusual. [00:03:52] Frontier's website says it only accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. [00:03:57] And it does not accept digital wallet payments like Apple Pay and Vimo. [00:04:01] Frontier has not responded to Channel 2's request for a comment. [00:04:05] Clark says anytime you buy a ticket with Frontier, be on the lookout for fees. [00:04:09] When you buy an airline ticket on Frontier, you have given them a license to your wallet. [00:04:15] I work hard for my little coins, and it's just crazy. [00:04:19] And Coger says Frontier did reimburse him to $25 and issued him a $150 voucher, but the company has not issued him a refund for the $32 transfer. [00:04:31] Now, Roach, the other customer, says he's hired an attorney regarding his case in the newsroom, Ashley Lincoln, Channel 2 Action News. [00:04:38] Also, CBS News interviewed a guy in the Navy. [00:04:41] They exploded him for money, a service member. [00:04:44] A sailor trying to fly to LA says a gate agent wouldn't let him board his flight unless he paid her off. [00:04:51] Tonight, Frontier Airlines says it's investigating his claims of an alleged shakedown. [00:04:56] Warren posted live at LAX with a story you'll see only on KCAL News. [00:05:00] Warren? [00:05:02] Juan and Susie, a penny officer Deontay Roach says he was in Atlanta visiting family and heading back to his Navy base just outside of LA. [00:05:10] It's a flight he's taken many times before on different airlines, but he says he's never experienced what he says happened just a few days ago. [00:05:20] I was like, man, you know, this is crazy. [00:05:21] You know, I actually get up in the morning, fight for this country, work hard. [00:05:24] I break my back, you know what I'm saying? [00:05:26] And I come back home to things like this. [00:05:29] Devontae Roach says he was waiting to board his flight to LAX from Hartsville-Jackson International Airport on Veterans Day when he says his flight got delayed at the gate. [00:05:38] Oh, so I'm going to grab a bite, you know, to eat. [00:05:39] And then once I came back, the lady closed the door. [00:05:42] And I was like, hey, Miss, how you doing? [00:05:43] You know, this is my flight or whatnot. [00:05:45] She was like, well, you're late. [00:05:46] I don't care what it is. [00:05:47] I was okay, but I have to get back to my duty station. [00:05:49] Roach denies he was late. [00:05:51] He claims the agent told him if he wanted to get on, he'd have to send her $50 to her personal money app account. [00:05:58] I said, well, look, I'm in the Navy, like I say. [00:05:59] I'm just trying to get back. [00:06:00] I kept my composure and everything because, you know, I could have snapped, but I didn't. [00:06:03] You know, I was keeping my composure. [00:06:04] And her words, I don't give a damn what you're in. [00:06:06] Give me my money. [00:06:07] He says he was able to board after pretending he was going to pay up. [00:06:11] Roach claims another agent said the price was usually $150, but since he was military, they would only charge $50. [00:06:19] We reached out to Frontier Airlines. [00:06:21] A spokesman told us, We take these accusations very seriously and are investigating them fully. [00:06:27] We appreciate this customer bringing the situation to our attention and have provided a full refund for his reservation as well as a voucher for future travel. [00:06:36] But Roach says he's not accepting it. [00:06:38] They show no remorse towards me. [00:06:40] And like I say, I begun to become angry. [00:06:43] But, you know, like I say, the military teaches us to keep our composure for free. [00:06:49] That's what the military did for us. [00:06:51] Yeah. [00:06:51] Yeah. [00:06:52] Made us men, made us more disciplined. [00:06:54] Right. [00:06:54] Right. [00:06:55] It did. [00:06:56] It did. [00:06:57] Learned respect and learned to keep it cool. [00:06:59] He kept, he said, he said, I kept my composure. [00:07:02] Now, a lot of times you see a lot of black people, they can't keep their composure. [00:07:15] If you want to get on this truck, you got to pay me $50. [00:07:18] Typically, I charge for $50, but since you're in the military, I'm going to charge you only $50. [00:07:22] I'm going to charge you $50. [00:07:24] Man, some of Frontier Airlines tickets ain't even $50 to go places. [00:07:28] Yeah, yeah. [00:07:29] That is a wild story, but I believe it. [00:07:32] I wonder why they didn't reveal the identities of these people that was put on the scam. [00:07:38] I know deep in my heart, I know they were black. [00:08:09] Because without white folks, you don't have diversity. [00:08:12] You have madness.
