Hodgetwins - Houston High School Does The Unthinkable. Aired: 2023-09-26 Duration: 11:21 === Racial Discrimination in Schools (10:33) === [00:00:00] Yeah, I've got a new show for y'all. [00:00:02] Got a damn good show. [00:00:04] All right, so this black kid and his mom is screaming racism. [00:00:09] Think he goes to some suspect. [00:00:11] Like the bull cry of wolf. [00:00:12] Wolf, wolf, that's wolf. [00:00:13] There's no wolf. [00:00:13] You know that old fable? [00:00:15] Wolf, wolf, there's no wolf. [00:00:16] Lied to you. [00:00:18] You know what happened in Ian? [00:00:19] Wolf came. [00:00:20] Wolf came, nobody blamed him. [00:00:21] Wolf tore his ass up. [00:00:24] So now when black people scream racing, oh, I heard this before. [00:00:28] But then when something actually, something that might be racist or suspect, nobody's gonna believe him. [00:00:34] So check out this story. [00:00:35] It's about this kid. [00:00:38] You can't wear your hair but a certain length. [00:00:40] Yeah. [00:00:40] Sound like a dress code. [00:00:42] It's like a grooming code for your hair. [00:00:44] Grooming code. [00:00:45] Right? [00:00:45] Yeah. [00:00:47] You know what? [00:00:47] They're instilling discipline in you. [00:00:49] How to groom yourself. [00:00:51] That's why teachers have them dress codes. [00:00:52] Look, we come here. [00:00:54] You're going to be shaving. [00:00:55] Nice, clean haircut. [00:00:57] Ring core. [00:00:57] We had to shave. [00:00:58] Let's do that. [00:01:00] They instilling, they're conditioning you to be disciplined. [00:01:04] To be well-groomed, manicured, presentable, business professional. [00:01:10] That's what they're instilling in them. [00:01:12] Yeah. [00:01:12] You know that, right? [00:01:13] Yeah. [00:01:13] Nothing wrong with that. [00:01:14] Have a dress code. [00:01:15] So check out this story. [00:01:17] Let me know what you think. [00:01:19] I can understand both sides of this show on this, but we'll see. [00:01:22] Yeah. [00:01:23] Yeah. [00:01:24] Let's check it out. [00:01:24] Now be the judge of that. [00:01:26] You be the judge. [00:01:27] I'll be the judge. [00:01:28] Let's go to the video. [00:01:29] We're developing a story out of Texas, a Houston Edmonton High School suspending a black student for the second time this year because of his hairstyle. [00:01:37] Now, as Antonia Hilton reports, the family is calling on the district to change its policy. [00:01:44] Daryl George, a high school junior, has been out of class for more than two weeks. [00:01:48] The Barbers Hill Independent School District in Texas has suspended him twice since the start of the school year over his hairstyle. [00:01:55] His grades are failing. [00:01:58] Like they're going down drastically. [00:02:00] He's not getting a proper education. [00:02:02] All Daryl wants is the chance to join the rest of his classmates. [00:02:06] Go back to class. [00:02:07] Do what I need to do to get my education. [00:02:09] The district says his hairstyle, called locks, violates their grooming code, which states that male students' hair will not extend at any time below the eyebrows or below the earlobes. [00:02:20] But Daryl's mom says her son always wears his hair like this, pulled back above his ears and eyebrows. [00:02:26] Now, the family is considering legal action. [00:02:29] I want them to really educate themselves on our cultures, on our hairstyles. [00:02:36] And then they will see it is covered. [00:02:39] It is a part of who we are. [00:02:41] It all happened the same week the Crown Act went into effect in Texas, banning acts of discrimination against certain hairstyles and textures in schools and workplaces. [00:02:50] 22 other states have passed similar bills, the legislation gaining momentum after incidents like the 2018 scandal over a black wrestler forced to cut his hair to compete. [00:03:01] The school says this is really about the length of his hair. [00:03:04] It's not about race. [00:03:05] Do you see that distinction? [00:03:07] We're dealing with the policing of a hairstyle like locks, brace, and twist that African descendants historically and commonly wear and are associated with our racial and cultural identities. [00:03:17] It is a form of racial discrimination. [00:03:20] Today, the district filed a lawsuit seeking court clarification on the Crown Act. [00:03:25] They maintain they're not in violation of the new law, which they argue doesn't govern hair length. [00:03:30] Meanwhile, Daryl has no plans to change his hair. [00:03:34] I'm saying straight to Barbara's Hill. [00:03:36] We're not backing down at all. [00:03:39] We're going to fight. [00:03:40] Antonia Hilton, NBC News, New York. [00:03:43] Thanks for watching. [00:03:44] Shut up, Lester. [00:03:45] Hey, his hair is grown and he keeps it pinned up. [00:03:50] It's not below his eyebrows. [00:03:52] I think they're leaving out some facts out of this story because clearly when his hair is wrapped up like he's a damn predator or something, it's not hanging below his eyebrows. [00:04:00] Well, he's got locks. [00:04:02] Yeah, he's got it all twisted up. [00:04:04] So I don't think they suspended him for that. [00:04:07] I think he come to school and he coming out looking like a predator. [00:04:11] And he's like, hey, boy, you speculate. [00:04:14] You a white supremacist. [00:04:17] The boy's hair is not below his eyebrows. [00:04:20] It's not below his shoulders. [00:04:21] They're leaving out some key facts. [00:04:24] I saw the pictures. [00:04:24] Saw the pictures. [00:04:25] Yeah, but I think they're groomed. [00:04:27] He's neat, handsome young man. [00:04:30] He's not breaking the laws. [00:04:32] I have a little experience with this. [00:04:34] When I was in the Marine Corps, I remember my sergeant. [00:04:36] He was a total asshole. [00:04:38] You know, I got curly hair. [00:04:39] See? [00:04:41] Snappy hair, you nappy nigga. [00:04:43] I got curly hair. [00:04:46] I got curly hair. [00:04:47] I remember he was such an asshole. [00:04:48] He would go up to my hair, bring out a ruler, and he would pull my hair and see how long it was. [00:04:55] Yeah, that was racist. [00:04:57] Yeah, yeah. [00:04:58] I don't want to say it's racist. [00:04:59] He's a jerk. [00:04:59] No, no, no, no, he's racist. [00:05:00] He probably is racist. [00:05:01] Was he white? [00:05:02] Because he didn't do it nothing. [00:05:02] Was he white? [00:05:03] No, he's Mexican. [00:05:06] Morales. [00:05:08] Morales, huh? [00:05:09] Yep, he's a Mexican. [00:05:10] What's the white dude? [00:05:10] He's Mexican. [00:05:12] He didn't like me. [00:05:13] You know why? [00:05:13] Why? [00:05:14] Because I'm good looking. [00:05:16] You can't tall and handsome. [00:05:20] But that happened to me, and they're doing the exact same thing to him. [00:05:24] He's following the code. [00:05:25] It's just he has long hair, so he pins it up. [00:05:27] And it is discriminatory because they want to treat all kids the same. [00:05:31] All kids are not the same. [00:05:32] We have different cultures, different backgrounds. [00:05:34] You can't treat everybody the same because we're not. [00:05:38] Is it racist? [00:05:39] No, but it is discriminatory towards certain cultures. [00:05:44] Shut up. [00:05:50] Personally, I don't see a problem if he keeps it buttoned up. [00:05:53] Thank you. [00:05:54] Boss of reason over here. [00:05:56] Boss of reason. [00:05:57] Because it's not going past the eyebrows and his earlobes. [00:06:02] It should be fine. [00:06:03] If they suspended him because it's all braided up like that, then I have an issue with that because you can't... [00:06:10] You're telling us. [00:06:10] He's not racist, but it is discriminatory. [00:06:13] Yeah. [00:06:13] It's not freedom either. [00:06:15] It's America. [00:06:16] And it's un-American, if you ask me. [00:06:21] They're letting boys go in the girls' restrooms. [00:06:23] Why can't they let a Negro walk around with his hair up? [00:06:27] Well, that's an African cultural hairstyle. [00:06:31] Right, right. [00:06:32] I mean, white people don't walk around like that because it looks crazy. [00:06:34] It looks messy. [00:06:35] You ever seen a white dude with breads? [00:06:37] It looks horrible. [00:06:38] It looks horrible for me. [00:06:40] Oh, black people, oh, no. [00:06:41] White guy looks crazy. [00:06:45] You see what I'm saying? [00:06:46] So that's why white people don't wear their hair like that. [00:06:49] They got the... [00:06:49] But black people. [00:06:50] They got all that flowing hair, like, got all them golden locks. [00:06:53] All of them golden locks. [00:06:55] Like they should be on a damn romance now. [00:06:57] All that damn white long hair blowing in there. [00:07:00] Yeah, black people have a different texture of hair, so they wear their hair differently. [00:07:04] Yeah. [00:07:04] Do you see where I'm coming from? [00:07:05] They're forcing someone to be something that's not them. [00:07:10] They can't express their true identity. [00:07:13] I mean, I understand. [00:07:14] I understand dress colour. [00:07:14] Well, white boys can't express their true identity if they want to wear their hair long. [00:07:18] Yeah. [00:07:19] Whether they have a dress code. [00:07:21] It can't be. [00:07:23] No, the dress code is this. [00:07:25] The dress code is this. [00:07:26] Can't be below the eyebrows. [00:07:27] Yeah. [00:07:27] Or to the shoulders, right? [00:07:29] If a white dude. [00:07:30] Shut up. [00:07:30] Earlope. [00:07:31] If a white boy grows his hair long, he can put it in a bun. [00:07:34] Yeah. [00:07:35] Yeah. [00:07:36] And vice versa. [00:07:37] I mean, women, they wear their hair long. [00:07:41] It's gender discrimination against males. [00:07:43] Yeah, it's discrimination against males, man. [00:07:45] Yeah, I follow you on that. [00:07:46] Yeah, they keep saying we live in a patriarchy. [00:07:48] But this world ran by women. [00:07:54] I'm just joking. [00:07:55] Kid talking about, what the mom said, oh, I'm failing now. [00:07:59] Nigga, you was probably failing since you went there. [00:08:02] I'm failing now. [00:08:03] They won't let me come to school. [00:08:06] I'm black. [00:08:08] This white man treats me. [00:08:09] Like, I'm a Negro. [00:08:15] But this, this is, I think this, this dress code, I understand it's. [00:08:20] It's a grooming code. [00:08:21] I understand the dress code, the grooming code. [00:08:23] But if you pin it up and you make it nice and neat, it shouldn't. [00:08:27] Yeah. [00:08:28] Yeah. [00:08:29] That is discriminatory to whites and blacks if you can't wear your hair long. [00:08:32] So if, like, what for white boys and a damn Viking, right? [00:08:36] Comes in with their braids. [00:08:38] Vikings used to wear braids. [00:08:39] They're white. [00:08:40] So they could have put it up. [00:08:42] So long it's not below the eyebrows. [00:08:43] Yeah. [00:08:44] It's discriminatory. [00:08:45] And then you're going to make that kid cut his hair just for a wrestling match? [00:08:50] That is crazy. [00:08:51] Well, Dane, you got to think about you wrestling. [00:08:53] You wrestling. [00:08:54] He got all that damn hair whooping you all in the damn face, some damn hard-ass nappy braids. [00:08:59] Beating you all in the face. [00:09:01] Man, come on now. [00:09:03] Well, you think that'll give a Negro an advantage? [00:09:05] Like when you boxing, you can't have a beard. [00:09:07] That's why you don't see boxes with beards. [00:09:08] You can't have a beard? [00:09:09] Uh-uh. [00:09:10] Because you, that damn big... [00:09:12] I could grow my beard like somebody punched me in the face. [00:09:14] I don't even feel it. [00:09:15] Yeah, bam, bam. [00:09:16] I do the rope and don't like Muhammad. [00:09:18] He just beat the hell out of this beard. [00:09:19] Did you all turn down? [00:09:21] Bam! [00:09:23] That is stupid. [00:09:24] A bird is not going to keep you from getting knocked out. [00:09:28] I'm just saying. [00:09:29] That's stupid, too. [00:09:30] You can't wear a beard and you box. [00:09:33] If anybody should better wear a beard, it's a damn boxer. [00:09:36] That shit look cool as hell. [00:09:37] You walk in there. [00:09:38] Tyson walking in with a beard. [00:09:44] Yeah, people's got their head. [00:09:46] People's got the head up their arts, man. [00:09:47] These dress codes, some of them are just stupid and archaic. [00:09:50] I mean, they don't want kids coming out looking like Millie Vanilli. [00:09:56] Coming out looking like this. [00:09:57] Here's a picture of Millie Vanilli. [00:09:58] They don't want your kids looking like this. [00:10:00] I understand why. [00:10:00] And then once the black kids do it, the white kids like, if they can do it, I can too. [00:10:06] But if it's neat and you put it up and it's, I personally, I don't care. [00:10:10] Yeah. [00:10:11] I mean, for y'all to suspend a kid over his hair, he's not. [00:10:14] I'm telling you, they didn't suspend. [00:10:16] I'm speculating, Keith. [00:10:18] He's not a behavioral. [00:10:19] He doesn't have behavioral issues. [00:10:20] He hasn't demonstrated that. [00:10:22] I'm telling you, he's letting it down. [00:10:23] It's all over his hat. [00:10:24] He's sitting around like Dwayne Wade's son. [00:10:27] I'm telling us what happened. [00:10:29] You think I may be wrong, but I'm done talking about this Negro. === Suspending a Kid Over Hair (00:47) === [00:10:33] Damn good show. [00:10:36] Y'all know about failing now. [00:10:38] You probably got D's and F's the whole time. [00:10:41] You're trying to bang all the white chicks in there. [00:10:46] Shut up, man. [00:10:47] He sounds like a well-spoken educated man. [00:10:50] He don't come off like no thug to me, man. [00:10:51] Hey, man. [00:10:52] He just joking, man. [00:10:53] Hey, we gotta. [00:10:54] Hope you win your case.
